*This review is for Chimmelier and Oh G Burger We were the only ones in the restaurant on a Sunday evening around 6pm; when we approached the register, we were able to order on the kiosk (to the right of the register) or through the cashier. It was an ideal place to take a group because 1) it was fast casual 2) everyone can put in their individual orders without the awk who's-going-to-put-their-card-in issue 3) there were 2 restaurants (Chimmelier + Oh G Burger) in 1 so more options! What I got: 8 pc sweet gochujang wings (sauce was called YANG'YUM') and a side of tots with a cup for water **the wings were from Chimmelier and the tots were from Oh G Burger We were able to combine two tables together to fit our group of 5 and the cashier brought our food over in quick succession. The tots were my fav even tho the wings were supposed to be the star of the show. I liked how they gave me PLENTY of disposable gloves because the sauce is v sticky. Gochujang is a savory, sweet Korean chili paste, but I would say it was more sweet than spicy. I enjoyed my meal but maybe would wanna try a dry rub because putting on gloves every time can be a chore. The first time we came here, the prices on the physical menu differed from the prices ordered through the iPad. We ended up having to pay the higher price because they said the menu just wasn't reflecting the latest prices. Fine, whatever. We both ordered chicken sandwiches and they were tasty. Also got fries for sides and some of them came out cold but we didn't think too much about it and we left feeling like we would return. However, on our second trip back - we once again ordered chicken sandwiches and also shrimp toast as an appetizer. One bite into the shrimp toast and the piece was very COLD...It wasn't fully cooked so we flagged it to them. They were very apologetic and happy to take it back to warm it up. But damn! I got the k-chicken burger and was quite disappointed. The batter was very thick and the chicken was super dry, making it extremely tough to eat. The flavor on the chicken itself was fine, but the flavors overall didn't really complement each other. The perilla leaf was overpowering, so I had to take it out. Got a K-chicken burger, 8pc OMG dry rub fried chicken, and 8pc galbi fried chicken. First time having a dry rubbed Korean fried chicken. It was okay. Like most Korean fried chickens, a blend of savory and sweet. Both the galbi and OMG dry rub were more sweet than savory. I do like a little bit of sauce on the chicken, so it doesn't feel as dry. The actual chicken itself was moist. A good sizable portion. Enough for another meal for a group of three. The K-chicken burger was a good balance of flavors especially with the pickled slaw. I visited Chimmelier & Oh G Burger today in Berkeley after already having visited the Montclair location for a yelp event some months back. So I knew kind of what to expect with their smash burger but everything else I ordered on the menu was all new to me. I ordered a variety of items: K-Chicken: flavor of the chicken was fine, bun was soft, but the chicken itself was a little dry. To remedy that I added some 1000 Island kimchi sauce which really hit the spot to make the sandwich good. Triple Smash Burger: I love the burgers here. Simple patties with caramelized onions and pickles with cheese. Simple and good. Buldak Ramen: this was WAY.TOO.SPICY FOR ME. I almost died but somehow can tell the story of how I almost died eating the ramen here. Kimchi Fried Rice: it's good but it's missing something. It's needs a little more flavor, I can't put my finger on it. Chocolate Milkshake: this was ice creamy delicious. I don't have milkshakes too often but this was a good one. Korean wings: this is the main reason you want to come to Chimmelier. The wings are perfectly cooked and flavorful. Service was friendly. Prices were reasonable. Always down 4 chicken! I know some of us prefer bone in wings, but their k-popcorn chicken is the best value out there. You get more for $20 for 1 order compared to the other KFC options out there. The crispiness isn't bad either. I do think they could do better with the flavors. The sauce didn't seem to stick well to the pieces, and the pieces weren't fully covered either. The inside of the restaurant is super cool! I love the fun murals on the wall, and the bar seating reminds me of a diner. I got the K-chicken burger with seasoned fries. The seasoning on the chicken was spot on- perfectly spiced with the right amount of heat. The sauce was flavorful and creamy. The bun was toasted beautifully and nice and soft. Great looking place inside with a very friendly staff. I ordered the Buldak chicken burger with seasoned fries and got a can of the in house beer. The Ohgane Pilsner beer was fantastic crisp and light. The fries were really good and seasoned well, tasted like ramen seasoning. Might I say one of the best fried chicken I have ever had? I have been meaning to try this place seeing it on my way to work, but with their recent blow-up on social media, I was so happy to get some wings on a Saturday afternoon. It is a little small shop that shares with Oh G Burger, and there are a few table seats. We walked in and were greeted by the cashier. He was super kind and helped guide us through which items he liked best. We got our food about ten minutes after, The wings were delicious! They were crispy, and juicy, and super flavorful. I was asked if I tried this place because it was new and the answer was no, now it's yes. So the Galbi wings that I got were just alright, could've been better, could've been worse. They're super flavorful but they require some sort of blander food item (rice or fries) or a beverage because they do get rich. The breading, however, kept falling off the chicken and seemed a little mushy. Don't get me wrong, there was still some crunch, but I feel like it could've been crispier. I'm not really accustomed to having breading fall of the wing as I'm taking a bite. The tteokbokki flavor was nice, savory and slightly spicy. However the texture was the issue. It seemed like they tried to pan fry the rice cakes to give them a crispy edge, but that made them tough to chew. It felt like the rice cakes dried up sitting in the pan because they weren't soft. Service is super nice. They give some gloves for the chicken and a skewer for the tteokbokki. Inside is small with 3 small tables and a bar that can sit around 10. Parking is street/meter which is free after 6pm M-Sat. Seeing how it's on Solano, weekend nights might get busy for parking. Overall, this place didn't wow me or anything. Was so excited to come try their new Berkeley location after their pop up at the 2024 Chimaek festival, where I had some of the best and crispiest Korean fried chicken I've tasted in the Bay. Unfortunately it did not live up to what I remembered. The wings were cooked well, still juicy and tender inside. My disappointment was with the crust -- mushy in some places and barely crispy. The seasoning was very flavorful, but the galbi (soy garlic) flavor bordered on too salty. Honey butter was more well balanced. Also, I was disappointed that there were no pickled radishes to counter the oilyness of the fried chicken. The shrimp toast was super crunchy and delicious, but just also too salty. Also, no dipping sauces included. It doesn't say on the menu but it costs $1 extra for each sauce. Overall, it feels like they are still ironing out some kinks as they just opened. On a weekend evening it was busy with lots of takeout orders and they seemed very understaffed, so perhaps the cooking was rushed and not up to standard quality. The vibes of the restaurant were good. I had the K-Chicken Burger Jr. and it was definitely and adequate, filling size. Here's where they lost a star for me.... the fries were too overly seasoned for me. It was very overwhelming and I couldn't finish them. They also did not have many drink options besides soda. I called in an order for pickup on Solano Ave. Everything was ready in about 10 minutes (1st star). When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and my order handed over (2nd star). Once home, I opened the bag and saw the boxed up fries looking soggy, wilted, and smothered in a chili-like spice. They were barely edible. The chicken wings were boxed up nicely but -sadly for me- they too were barely edible. The outside crust looked and tasted like crunchy cardboard. The chicken underneath the crust was delicate and perfectly cooked (3rd star). I so wanted to love this spot, and I probably got them on a bad night, less than an hour before closing, so I'll take some of the responsibility there. I was hoping to get different varieties of the popcorn chicken and some kimchi fried rice. All gone. My new favorite spot for wings. They are so so good. It's a little bit expensive, but the wings are huge. We have been twice. Each time we bought a 16 pack. Once we got all of the sweet Korean wings, and the next time I split the order and got the sweet Korean and soy garlic. Dreams are Meade of these chicken wings. I really want to support this business because I LOVE their wings (fav is the signature OMG dry rub) but I had a recent disappointing experience. I placed an order using the "order now" button on the official website, for pick up at the Berkeley location. The order was successfully placed at 7:52pm, the hours listed on their google business page says they close at 9pm everyday. When I came in restaurant for pick up (arriving at 8:08), The staff said they actually close at 7:50pm, and they never got my online order via ChowNow (they were actually very confused how I ordered, even though Chownow is the official service linked on their website) ... Never apologized or anything, the staff was just standing around waiting to go home. It seems they need to train their staff better and list correct business hours (Don't say you close at 9pm, when last orders are accepted at 7:50). Went on grand opening day and it was pretty busy during dinner time. We got the chicken wings and burger which is an absolute must. And the shrimp toast is amazing as well. Definitely recommend kimchi fried rice though it is on the spicier side. The staff was super nice. Food took a while probably because of grand opening dinner rush but not too bad.
