Special Noodle is located in Pacific East Mall towards the back. Ordered a pretty big spread that consisted of beef rolls, dumplings, fried rice, and salt and pepper chicken bites. The dumplings were delicious and even better with some chili oil. The chicken fried rice had huge chunks of egg and chicken which I loved with a deep soy flavor. The salt and pepper chicken was decent, I think I prefer salt and pepper wings/fish/shrimp. The beef rolls weren't for me, though. It's typically one of my favorite dishes but it seemed to be lacking beef & I wasn't a fan of the lettuce filling or the roll itself being a bit too soft and doughy. Overall, a good experience. Our server was nice and everything came out quick!

The soup pan fried buns...the soup pan fried buns..the soup pan fried buns..saying this three times may stick ;) Wow, will definitely be back for these! So delicious..plump/juicy/crispy and golden brown..chef's kiss. Special Noodle in the Pacific East Mall has delicious noodle dishes, small bites/dim sum, and a pretty extensive and unique dining menu. We ordered a combination chow mein and pan fried buns. FYI, the pan fried buns take a bit of additional time and come piping hot. I would wait a few minutes before eating, or check out a video on @yelpbayarea of how to eat soup dumplings! Another note, you order from an iPad that's handed to you upon arrival once seated. Make sure after you 'add items to cart' you submit your order. We left that step out and didn't realize until a few minutes later. Staff is friendly and make sure to ask if anything additional is needed like napkins, etc. Overall a fun experience, fair pricing, located in the hustle and bustle of the mall, and cool digs if you're looking for a comfortable dining experience without the frills.

The food was good and the ordering system was awesome with pictures. Not the best I've ever had though. The green bean and eggplant dish was tasty but slightly oily. The fried rice and noodle was pretty decent.

Two thirds through our meal and this cart was moved away from us. At least three of these are laying about.

Aug 20, 2025 2:15 pm 3.3 stars We have walked past this location for years, mainly due to the fence in front that reminds me of a midevel moat. After reading some glowing reviews though we decided to swim over. Upon being seated, they hand you an iPad that has their menu on it and they walk away. Twenty minutes later you wave an employee over and he tells you that you are to place your order on the iPad. For some reason the "foot" of the leg of my chair is getting stuck in a groove in the floor and the chair won't slide with me sitting on it. I grab the seat of the chair and bounce my way to a proper dining seating position. My wife looks over the Ipad and I look over the establishment. There are too many bussing carts about and that fence is still off-putting from the view on the inside looking out. . The place is not too busy but it is plenty noisy with three tables of chatting women and unanswered cooking timers going off. I wore ear plugs until some of the ladies left. We ordered Eggplant with String Beands, Steamed Soup Dumplings, a small bowl of rice and one coke. Comes to $41.68 They bring you a large caraff of water but no water glasses, so you make due with the teacups they have given you without giving you tea. Our glass caraff had some dried stuff on it. While waiting for our food to arrive, I notice some oily substance on my plate and wipe the plate down with a napkin. Food shows up and it was great. Best vegetables at a Chinese place I've had. Both dishes were served hot and flavorful. My wife points at a child's handprint on the window near my head. "Great, another animal friendly restaurant." I mutter in a failed attempt at humor. This was table #6 if management wants to touch that window up. This establishment has no restroom of its own. If needed you go to the shopping center public restroom. Take my advice and try to hold it till you get home. The food was great. I dont think we will be back.

I came tonight for a quick dinner with my dear friend. Only three things were ordered. I received my Braised pork belly noodle dish first. I thought it was simple enough and the pork belly was tender. We received the steamed soup chicken dumplings next. They were hot and delicious. Wish that they had served it first. The third dish never came. I finished my entree. I let the server know we never received the dish. I waited then we decided she wasn't going to wait around for them to get it to go. I went to pay for the bill and lo and behold it appeared and the server was to deliver to our table that we already had vacated. He packaged it up to go. Never been to a restaurant that completely forgot an order. Not good.

Round 2. Tried new items this time. So far I've enjoyed the pork intestine noodle soup. The clear beef noodle soup was okay.. may have to stick with the spicy version for the flavors. The noodles are slurp worthy but they serve it with the temperature of 1000 suns. The dumplings here are better than Dumpling Days within the same plaza, but they don't really compare against Din Ding or other popular places. Overall good experience here with the typical mediocre service. You order through the tablet they give you and the food always come quickly. Only problem is you're completely forgotten afterwards. Getting a to-go box and the check always took awhile.

Came here one night for a casual dinner. The front was lacking credit card signs so we were a bit worried (I almost never carry cash) but luckily, they do accept cards! I ordered my usual favorite dishes, (6) pork XLB ($12.99), and (8) Snow Flake Pan Fried Dumpling with Pork and Cabbage ($12.99). I would've liked to try the Pork and Crab Roe XLB as well, but that costs $20.99 and I wasn't feeling too splurgy this time :') Maybe another time. The XLB came looking quite large, like saggy sacks...in a good way. You could tell they were full of hot broth. Although the skin was on the thinner side, they still held on well and didn't break apart when lifting. Very delicious and satisfying! The presentation of the Pan Fried Dumplings was just beautiful. I'm always impressed when they come out with that full lattice because I'm way too dumb to make that myself at home lol. The texture of the crunch was great, although maybe a bit on the oily side. But sadly, I also happen to be a picky eater and the dumplings had HELLA green onions that weren't mentioned in the menu description. That's mostly a me problem, but I'll definitely be on the fence about ordering this again in the future :( My husband ordered the Pork Intestine Noodle Soup ($17.99) that I tried a few bites of. I was mostly curious about the noodle texture. It was on the thicker side, and a bit chewy. Maybe a tad overcooked though, or not the freshest made because it lacked a certain bounciness I was looking for. I definitely see myself returning since I frequent this plaza often, and the dumplings (and setting) here were for sure better than Dumpling Day in the same building.

We came here on a whim and loved it. This restaurant is located inside of the 99 Ranch market. It has large area for seating inside and some tables outside if you wanna people watch at 99 Ranch. This place does most of their orders on the tablet. Pretty convenient. We saw a lot of things we liked from the menu but had to limit ourselves. The Xiao Long Bao was a must and we did not regret. Skin was perfectly thin, just enough for us to not break it when we pulled the soupy dumpling out. The Pan Fried buns were crispy on the bottom and soupy inside. Great balace. Beef rolls were also crispy on the outside and packed with flavors on the inside. The Sweet and Sour chicken had a very crispy outside layer. Seems they there were multiple layers of crisp, best eaten at the restaurant and doesn't taste the same back at home. The Mixed Udon Noodle was a surprising hit. The meat has a flavorful crisp and blended well with the veggies and udon. Overall, I highly recommend this place. We're super happy they found their way to the 99 Ranch near us!

Gan Ban String Beans
Geanna T.

Came in for nice, filling lunch on a Sunday. We ordered Gan Ban green beans, clear beef soup, snow flake pan fried dumpling, and soup pan fried buns. All the food was good! And it was plenty for our party of 4. The Gan Ban green beans were addicting and flavorful. The clear beef soup was savory, beef was tender, and noodles had a nice chew. The soup pan fried buns had a nice crisp bottom with good soup and filling! The snow flake pan fried dumpling was honestly nothing too special, but it was still good. Service was okay. Ordering was done through an iPad. And items were brought to us when asked. Overall, this location of Special Noodle is good! I'd definitely come back.

Beef noodles

We walked in late afternoon for an early dinner, place is empty (as expected), very clean. The spicy beef noodles came out surprisingly quick. Was the first dish out. Giamourio bowl! The soup has a strong smell and tasted of Chinese herbs, which i didn't expected. Not as spicy as expected. The beef was very tender, gave a lot of meat. Noodles tasted fresh and handmade. Overall a very nice dish. The xiao long bao was a bit too sweet, but did the job to fix our cravings. Disappointed that half broke upon carefully lifting them out of the steamer. Lost the yummy soup! The snow flake pot stickers were delicious. Nice balance is crispy and chewy.

Yeonhwa S.

I don't get how they are so empty every time I go lol but I love it because their food is amazing, workers are extremely attentive, it's spacious, and clean! Their rice noodle is not like pho noodles. It's more fat and round. I got tricked two times lolol i am gonna try their flat wide noodles next time. Definitely a recommendation! It's a whole mall of chinese stores so there is ample parking as well.

Lamb Stone Pot Noodle Soup with rice noodle
Jaky Y.

Came by and enjoyed their lamb noodle soup in stone pot. The stone pot comes out super hot and is actually really deep, so the portion size is easily enough to share between 2 people. The rice noodles were bouncy, and the soup base was flavorful albeit a bit oily. There were generous amounts of lamb and veggie. Service was fast and attentive, and folks kept stopping by to offer us more water, napkins, etc.

The best string beans I've EVER had. So freaking delicious. Get it. The soup dumplings were pretty good, hot pot was meh. But I will be coming back for those string beans. Delicious.

CQ…read morerepresents everything I love about a family-owned Chinese restaurant and is a place I'll continue to visit and support. Cucumber Salad (7/10): Pretty different from most typical cucumber salads that are sesame oil-heavy. This version was more acidic, almost like a pickled cucumber dish. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it worked well as a refreshing palate cleanser between the more flavorful entrées. Shanghai Style Sweet & Sour Ribs (8/10): Very reminiscent of American-style Chinese food. The ribs were extremely tender, and the sauce was sweet without being too overpowering. Pairing bites with rice and cucumbers kept me wanting more. The bok choy on the plate was simply boiled, and while I enjoy clean, plain vegetables, others might expect a bit more. Braised Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10): There are many noodle options to try here, and we went with the regular hand-pulled. The noodles were good, though I personally wished they were a bit firmer. The broth had a deep umami flavour and was exceptionally well seasoned. I found myself dunking rice from the set plate into the broth and just eating that. The meat could have used a little more character, as it was just tender slices, but it didn't need much more since the broth carried the dish. Definitely a place I plan to visit anytime I'm in the area, and I'm excited to try more of the delicious dishes on their menu.

The beef rib seemed to be hands down the most popular choice. Chicken Wings: Didn't seem to have any coating/batter. Super crispy. Had a layer of fat beneath the crispy skin, so not like the rendered off Korean style. And a nice soy taste. Beef Rib Knife Cut Noodles: This looked epic. Two huge ribs sticking out a bowl of squiggly noodles and glowing red soup. It tasted great too. The beef ribs had such tender and flavorful meat morsels. Thankfully I wasn't trying to impress anyone, so I ate the ribs by hand. The knife cut noodles were fun, with a springy chewy texture. But the real star was the broth. Such slow cooked beef goodness. And some nice spices to bring out even more complexity.

In terms of cleanliness and ambiance, it needs a deep cleaning. It seems to have been in business for a while. The tables were sticky and so were the floors. The decor seems a bit outdated. Don't go here if you have an hour lunch. It will not be enough time for you to eat. We got there around 2:07 and didn't get our food until 2:40. 10 minutes to eat a very hot soup is neither feasible or safe, lol. I love that it's a family-run establishment. There was a young school-aged girl who served us. She must've been on spring break. She did make a mistake on our order. I had initially ordered one thing but then changed my mind and went with something else. She ended up bringing both. I wasn't going to send it back or ask to take it off the bill, because I felt bad. So, I just asked her if she could please pack it to go. Which she did. We ordered some calamari, which we all liked. My daughter and I ordered some soups, I don't remember what they were called. They were lacking a bit in flavor. My son ordered the Pad See Ew, which also didn't seem like it was seasoned enough compared to others we have had. I do think I'll give this place another try. Hopefully it was just an off day.

I got the noodles (#21 in the menu) as to-go. The portions were small, just 1 small chinese takeout box. The broth was in a bigger container, medium size. Maybe because broth is cheaper. Since this is to-go, how do you eat it to-go? Well you would pour the soup into the noodles, because the noodles were already arranged neatly in the box with the meatballs and other non-noodle ingredients on top. But when I did that, the box started leaking soup on the side. After a while, the box started breaking apart because it was wet. So how am I supposed to eat this to-go noodles in my car drive home? Do I need to empty the noodles into a pot at home? That means I cannot eat to-go food while I am outside? That makes no sense. Inside, there was very few customers (2 tables have customers out of like, 12). It was Monday around 7pm. Not exactly packed house. When I pay at the cash register, they gave me an ipad where it showed a few buttons for tips. The lowest was 18%. Wow, why would I pay 18% when I come pick it up at your restaurant? That makes no sense. So I declined. The price of the noodles was listed as $14. Later I saw the receipt was $18+, how is that possible to have $4 tax on a $14 item? That's like 30% tax. Turns out there was a row that said "non-credit charge". So they charged me for using a credit card without telling me. But in the store I am 100% sure there were no signs anywhere that said any extra charge for credit card. I get that running a restaurant is hard. But with all these hidden charges and suggestions of 18% tips and small portions, at what point are you just driving customers away? Will not be coming back again

If you see Nam Khao on the menu of a Laotian/Thai restaurant, that means they know what they are doing just because it's so labor-intensive to make a salad(!) and the fermented pork has to be damn-near perfect for this salad to really shine and round out the fresh herbs and seasonings which includes lime juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Ka Soy (the noodle soup) is a comfort food enjoyed in Southeast Asia. It's not the Thai-style where it's a curry broth and the noodles are fried, so let's not get it mixed up. Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. We are the only customer when we arrived. Very pleasant not overpowering jazz mood music plays. Our server has a very pleasant demeanor. We have Taiwan beef noodle soup. Nice and hot the way it should be. Perfect to my tongue textures of the beef cubes and egg noodles. The beef broth was amazing. At the end of our meal I was full. Too full to the point that I almost cried that I couldn't drink the last gulps but it was too small a portion to warrant taking home. Our Kung Pao chicken? Delicious. Chock full of chicken bites and delicious vegetables. Somehow the plentiful peanuts set my taste buds acraving. Wow wow Pao tasty. The only miss with this was that it was brought to us on a coldish serving plate. A common mistake. We didn't get to try this dish hot. We are now wanting our bill. Seems like long time wanting. To our dismay, our friendly server got herself enmeshed in an on again off again conversation with someone at another table shortly after we arrived. Then she disappeared for a while. We are tempted to guess the bill amount (turns out we guessed wrong by $1), leave cash on the table and walk out. Instead I get up and she appears at the register. Magic. We pay proper like and walk out respectfully. I wouldn't mind coming back.
