Came across this place while walking on Clement, craving noodles, and it did not disappoint. CQ represents everything I love about a family-owned Chinese restaurant and is a place I'll continue to visit and support. Cucumber Salad (7/10): Pretty different from most typical cucumber salads that are sesame oil-heavy. This version was more acidic, almost like a pickled cucumber dish. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it worked well as a refreshing palate cleanser between the more flavorful entrées. Shanghai Style Sweet & Sour Ribs (8/10): Very reminiscent of American-style Chinese food. The ribs were extremely tender, and the sauce was sweet without being too overpowering. Pairing bites with rice and cucumbers kept me wanting more. The bok choy on the plate was simply boiled, and while I enjoy clean, plain vegetables, others might expect a bit more. Braised Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10): There are many noodle options to try here, and we went with the regular hand-pulled. The noodles were good, though I personally wished they were a bit firmer. The broth had a deep umami flavour and was exceptionally well seasoned. I found myself dunking rice from the set plate into the broth and just eating that. The meat could have used a little more character, as it was just tender slices, but it didn't need much more since the broth carried the dish. Definitely a place I plan to visit anytime I'm in the area, and I'm excited to try more of the delicious dishes on their menu.
Definitely a neighborhood gem! They had a few vegetarian noodle soup options which is a little unlikely for a traditional Chinese noodle place. I trusted my instincts and chose this for a post hike meal. I walked into the restaurant before 5 in the evening, starving. It was empty! What I loved is they put in some effort to make the noodles vegetarian with a bunch of toppings, not just noodles, cabbage and soup. There was egg, peanuts, well-marinated tofu cubes, pickles and bok choy. Super affordable for this bowl!
Came here for lunch with my parents on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. NOBODY else was here, and we pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves. The floral decor is pretty and there's pictures of Cai Shen Yeh (the god of wealth). Beef noodle soup was very good and flavorful with plenty of cilantro. I got the thick handpulled noodles, which had a great texture. My mom got wonton soup, and my dad got a fish soup with the regular hand pulled noodles. Great service. We enjoyed our lunch here.
With fragrant broth, tender meat, and classic noodles, CQ Noodles provides a satisfying meal with a nostalgic vibe. Pros: - Amazing broth--the soup that the noodles come has a nostalgic flavor, addicting scent, and brings everything in the dish together. We packed the leftovers specifically to keep the soup! - Noodles are a great texture--they provide the right level of chew and consistency. We tried the knife cut and the thick pulled noodles and both were great! - Service and set up are solid--tables are wide, giving a sense of space and privacy. You get a glass jug of hot tea or iced water Nits: - Veggies are more of a light garnish in the soup noodles--bok choy were small and soggy. Maybe eat those early - Meat portions are decent but not generous Overall I really enjoyed this noodle shop--it's a strong contender on its own but is also a refreshing change from the typical ramen and udon places downtown.
The food here was so good that we forgot to take pictures! Everything was delicious but I LOVED the shredded chicken appetizer and will always order it. The current owners started a year ago. The owners work here and also have a chef from Chong Qing. However, even though Chongqing food is spicy, they have things that are not. We had the fish and picked vegetables noodles and the befd brisket. Both were good. You have to try the knife cut noodles! So thin and soft and tasty. The hand pulled noodles are good but chewier. I even liked the water which came with lemon in the pitcher. Tasty, clean, creative- what more can you ask? A hidden gem for sure!!!!
So good! I loved this spot--the staff are super lovely, the restaurant is super clean, and the beef is super tender! Additionally, we got a pitcher of warm tea for free, which is nice as some places charge extra for tea instead of water. I would definitely come back.

The beef rib was a little difficult to eat with the soup; so I decided to eat the ribs first. I like the cherry blossom tree decor inside the restaurant. Overall great restaurant to try out if you're in the richmond area!
We came here on a Saturday evening for a table of 7 and were seated right away. The restaurant itself is small, but was able to accommodate a good amount of groups. Service was also fast too. I got the house beef noodle soup with hand pulled noodles and it was delicious! The beef was tender and cooked in a way where the meat falls right off the bone. I got medium spice with my soup and it was hearty and flavorful. The braised pork slices is a must get as well. Tender cuts of pork with a good flavor to it! This place is definitely good if you're craving some Chinese food especially after a late night!
I stopped by on a Friday for lunch since I was craving a steaming hot bowl of noodles. Even though the outside was low-key, the inside was decorated with bright pink flowers and planetary lights. Definitely not what I expected from a noodle place. After looking at all the options, I decided to order the 老鴨湯砂鍋米线 ChongQing Special Duck Mixian Soup ($15.95): +Mixian were perfect QQ texture: Not mushy and overcooked. -Even though the pot looked big, the portion wasn't a lot. As someone who often has leftovers, I felt a bit hungry afterwards. -Small amount of duck: Pieces were mostly bone and skin with little meat on them. -Broth was super greasy and salty: I ended up leaving it behind. Side notes: 1.) Complimentary juice provided. The server wasn't sure what type of juice it was, but it tasted like watered down suanmeitang AKA sour plum juice. 2.) Restroom available for customers *Verdict: Mid food with mid service. Tables who ordered after me all received their food before me, whether it was apps or noodles. After receiving the check, the server stood there like a hawk staring at me as I was filling out and signing my receipt. Wonder why they suddenly decided to be so attentive...
Came here Tuesday night with my man. We were trying to grab dinner at another spot but they had a two hour wait.. I quickly looked up 'food' on Yelp and thought it be interesting to try this (without looking at their menu or photos). And it was delicious! I was craving hot (temperature) food all day. FYI - C.Q. stands for ChongQing. He got the ChongQing Style Roast Beef Noodle Soup - that came with knife shaven noodles. While I got the Shredded Pork with Fermented VegNoodles (it's not knife shaven noodles FYI) - it came in this special pot situation that kept the noodles piping hot all night - which did make it difficult to eat because it would burn my lips while eating or hot soup would splash on my lips. It was still boiling when it came out for awhile (the soup). It was really good. ^ I would recommend if you get this dish maybe to get this is share amongst with a lot of other side dishes/skewers/one other dish to try first while it cools down a bit. The server did warn me that this would be really spicy.. I don't think it was spicy in my opinion just hot. But my man did say it was 'spicy' hot with the oil in the noodle. He also choose chicken heart and gizzards skewers to share - they were really good! That might be the first time we've had chicken heart and I naturally don't gravite towards gizzards. Totes recommend both. The chicken hearts are a total winner for me; never realized how small they would be. Chewy but not overtly. We sat in the window corner. Quite a lovely spot. The bottom neon on lights came on mid-meal as it got darker which we weren't expecting - if you don't like being by bright lights - opt for inner seating if anything. Every table gets iced tea - I taste plum. My boyfriend thought it tasted like soda - like a flat coke. I disagree but maybe you can try this place out and let me know what the tea tastes like in your own review. I'd definitely come back.
The food tasted incredible! Everything was so fresh, flavorful and came out hot. Each dish was rich in flavors and you can really taste that a lot of work went into it. What made the experience even more special was the pink flowers lining the ceiling and all the beautiful decorations there. The service was also amazing, and would absolutely come back again. I highly recommend CQ noodles for anyone who loves Chinese food and an amazing dining experience.
Delicious like advertised. Drawn in by the beef rib noodle, we were not disappointed. The heat level was good, not uncomfortable, and the broth was amazing. I took some of the soups home, but of course the noodles didn't keep. Still, the broth was still savory. We were distracted by the chicken wings, and they didn't come out before but a little after the soup. The texture was crispy, and the honey came through in the sauce. All six pieces were the middle wing part which I enjoyed. They automatically give you a cold sweet tea upon sitting down, but they will bring you water upon request. Parking in that area is a little tight, and we had to circle quite a bit.

A lot of delicious options, but I would like slightly larger portions. Great option since it opens somewhat later than most restaurants in the area. 8pm and there was another table, so open seating. Parking in front or resident. Order quite a bit, most of the items were a hit. The beef wrap and beef noodle soup were delicious. The pork and cabbage dumpling were tastier with the sauce. The beef noodle soup is not too spicy and not too oily, great flavors. Pulled noodles had chew. Unfortunately, the soup dumpling (XLB) was a miss. Cute little cozy spot. I've been trying to find more hand pulled noodle places. Unfortunately it wasn't actually freshly hand pulled there but they do have good noodle soups. The noodles are similar to the ones you can buy at the supermarket. I definitely want to come back and try more items. It was good but didn't wow me. I appreciated that they had different hot sauces you could try as well. The staff are nice and the food comes out decently quick. There were a lot of people eating here on a weekday! read more
Cozy little restaurant with some funky decor. The menu seems anchored by the signature beef soup, with many different cuts of beef and types of noodles to enjoy it with. The beef rib seemed to be hands down the most popular choice. Chicken Wings: Didn't seem to have any coating/batter. Super crispy. Had a layer of fat beneath the crispy skin, so not like the rendered off Korean style. And a nice soy taste. Beef Rib Knife Cut Noodles: This looked epic. Two huge ribs sticking out a bowl of squiggly noodles and glowing red soup. It tasted great too. The beef ribs had such tender and flavorful meat morsels. Thankfully I wasn't trying to impress anyone, so I ate the ribs by hand. The knife cut noodles were fun, with a springy chewy texture. But the real star was the broth. Such slow cooked beef goodness. This is one of my favorite places in San Francisco for noodles on a cold day that provides the numbing spice! Most recently, my friend and I came here on a weekend afternoon and were seated immediately. The restaurant had a short wait by the time we left, however. The mirrors that cover one wall of the restaurant allow for an illusion of a big space, making it seem very roomy. We ordered the House Special Beef Rib Noodle Soup, Braised Pork Slices, and Chongqing Style Pork Trotters Noodle Soup. Our orders came out in a timely manner, and we were more than full by the end of our meal and had to take leftovers. The braised pork slices were placed over many small mushrooms, and they were quite juicy! Although the beef rib soup was a bit difficult to eat with its large bones, the broth was delicious along with the seasoning of the beef rib. The pork trotters noodle soup had also good non-spicy broth that my friend and I finished first. On a cold winter day, this is the first restaurant that comes to my mind when I want a hearthy soup, and it will continue to be so! read more
I had this bookmarked for a while since I saw many good things about it! Unfortunately, I didn't know there was an ownership change until I was pretty surprisingly disappointed in the noodle broth flavor and saw some other yelpers mentioning the ownership and possibly chefs changed. The noodles were good and chewy, but other than that it didn't have anything else going for it. Broth was super bland and wontons were too sweet. The cucumber salad lacked nuance besides a strong vinegar flavor. I'm giving some grace to the slow service since the staff seemed like they were still figuring some things out and they gave us the cucumber salad for free for waiting. Since I love Chongqing noodles, I'm really hoping they nail down a better recipe! read more

In 2023 I lunched at Chinatown's Chong Qing Xiao Mian. It's a hive of activity with perfunctory service and a questionable level of cleanliness but the food was really good (as my 4-star rating attested). I have no assurances but presume, given the name and menu, that C.Q. Noodles is, if not under the same ownership, at least somehow related. Here, though I had the same level of service and similar observations about the cleanliness of the space, I was less charmed by the food. Dan Dan Noodles, my order, are served dry in this location. They were chewier than expected and I missed the broth (as I'd had in the Chinatown location). They weren't bad but neither did they leave me raving. Steamed pork buns, ordered as a starter, were ample (4 to an order) but these too left me underwhelmed. It didn't feel like the food was bad here, only that it wasn't suited to my taste buds. The restaurant decor, with a (fake) floral ceiling arrangement, initially stunned in a good way but the longer I sat in the space different impressions arose. I understand things like an occasional dirty napkin on the floor, and perhaps some loose change, but the presence of multiple tables left uncleared long after diners departed left an overall negative impression of the space. Assuming they're in the same family, I'd opt for the Chinatown location of C.Q. every time. read more

First went to CQ Noodles early last year and loved it. Had one of the beef soups, and knew we had to come back eventually. Heard the place closed down for a bit but reopened, so took the chance to come eat here. Got the beef soup that comes with the large bone, and was even able to customize! The server was very helpful with clarifying information and let us know we could customize the soup, so I got mine spicy. Our food came out pretty fast too! 10/10 coming back again read more

Very yummy, the beef rib noodle soup was perfect for a cold day. Very nice staff! The beef roll pancake was thin and flaky, with very fresh cucumbers that were crunchy and provided a wonderful contrast to the pancake and beef read more
This place is heaven for my tastebuds. My partner was craving spicy noodles on a cold day and we stumbled upon C.Q. Noodles. We both ordered the Chong Qing Style lamb noodle soup. I have a low spice tolerance and made the mistake of getting mild the first time. I was chugging water but couldn't stop eating despite the spice--that's how good it is. The noodles are handmade, the lamb is so tender. They don't skimp on any of the ingredients! The second time we came here, I got no spice, and I was in much less pain. My partner however LOVES spicy food so he is able to manage. Although we live in the Sunset where there's Asian food on every corner, we come here at least once a month. These noodles are just that worth it. My only complaint: service can be slow--when we go, there's only been one waiter! read more

CQ Noodles was such a great gem to stumble upon on yesterday. As I was have a scratchy/ itchy throat I was craving some kind of noodles and especially hot soup to sooth the agitation. In regards to my condition, CQ noodles had one of the best beef noodles. It fell right off the bone. The thick noodles was really fresh and the mild to spicy soup was really perfect. The restaurant was quiet and (I assume father and son) workers were so helpful with being patient while I took a while to choose what I wanted to order along with frantically trying to finish work. They were so kind to let me shift around from table to table so I can charge my poorly functioning laptop. P.S. I also ordered number 53 and cucumber salad that wasn't pictured but she enjoyed it as I got it go for her read more
We initially stumbled upon C.Q. on a cold fall night, and it totally hit the spot! This is a sit down restaurant, but I wouldn't describe it as fancy. They were pretty busy for dinner, but it wasn't hard to get a table for 2 at all. We've since come here on several other occasions and it is consistently good! The house special beef rib noodle soup is so flavorful. Mild was a nice spice level to enjoy the meal. While I do enjoy spice normally, medium would have been a little too much for a whole bowl. The ChongQing Style Roast Beef Noodle Soup is also a great choice, if you don't feel like working your way around the rib. The pig ears are a nice side app. I always enjoy them! Service is quick and efficient. They pack your food very nice and securely. Parking is mostly street meters. read more
Stumbled upon CQ Noodles on Clement and honestly, what a win for the family. If you're looking for a spot that doesn't require a hazmat suit or a decade-long wait list, this is it. The vibe is clean, classic, and actually inviting--a rarity when you're just wandering the Richmond looking for a miracle. The food? Absolute fire. We ran through the hits: * Dan Dan Noodles & Chow Mein: Perfect texture, zero disappointment. * Scallion Pancake: Crispy, flaky, and gone in sixty seconds. * Pork & Chive Dumplings: Exactly what they should be. * Shanghai Buns (SJB): These things are the truth. But let's talk about the real MVP: the sauce game. They have this chili oil, vinegar, and "cilantro-garlic-something" concoction that I'm pretty sure should be bottled and sold as a controlled substance. It's on fire. We ended up picking C.Q. Noodles for for a quick din din on a random Thursday based on several Yelp pics and the stellar ratings... which worked out very well! Parking in the City is usually challenging, so good luck with that, luckily we didn't struggle. The venue was not big and the decor was interesting as well... a few different things going on. The service was brilliant! Both our phones were dying; at less that 20% and of course we forgot a charger or a battery pack. However, the gentleman taking our order charged both of our phones while we dined in! Such a relief. Mahalo! #SendNoods: ~ Fresh Soy Milk - 4/5 Sweet frothy, tasty. Delicious noodles! This restaurant is located in the heart of the Richmond on Clement street. I went on a Sunday night for dinner, and there was no wait. This shop is a no frills, authentic Chinese noodle restaurant. Nothing fancy, just hearty noodle dishes! I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, and it was very flavorful. The thick, hand pulled noodles soaked up the spicy soup making each bite a wonder. The beef was tender, soup was just the right amount of spice for me, and the noodles had a nice bounce to them. Would order this again! The meal also comes with complimentary tea fyi. I think it's a sort of plum tea drink - it's fairly sweet but a nice add on to the meal. read more
7/7/24 Ordered the $15 house spicy beef noodle soup. Noodles were super chewy and soup was very flavorful Plenty of beef and very tender. Service was good it's run by a husband and wife. I loved the food here and the portion size was huge. Would definitely come again and try their other dishes. Tried their spicy intestine noodle soup which was also great. A small shop on Clement, CQ offers a wide variety of both mixian (rice noodle) and daoxiao (knife shaved noodles) dishes. I order the shredded pork and pickled veggie shaved noodles, and was surprised by the tenderness of the pork and flavorful broth. My friend got the chicken rice noodles, but the meat was bony and not plentiful. I also got the shengjianbao (pan fried buns) which were more yeasty and bready/oily than I would've liked. Cozy small spot for spicy noodle soup and hand pulled noodles. Was very packed on a Wednesday evening around 7-8. Service was a bit slow but all the staff were very friendly -- it took a bit of time for the food to come out but it was piping hot and very comforting on a cold night! I liked the pork and cabbage dumplings a lot -- they tasted very homemade and had thick wrappers. The noodle soup was a good level of spice (I got mild) while also numbing. The soup was too oily for me though, and the beef was very tough and hard to chew. However, the hand pulled noodles were yummy and had great texture. Good price for a ton of food! read more
