Came across this place while walking on Clement, craving noodles, and it did not disappoint. CQ represents everything I love about a family-owned Chinese restaurant and is a place I'll continue to visit and support. Cucumber Salad (7/10): Pretty different from most typical cucumber salads that are sesame oil-heavy. This version was more acidic, almost like a pickled cucumber dish. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it worked well as a refreshing palate cleanser between the more flavorful entrées. Shanghai Style Sweet & Sour Ribs (8/10): Very reminiscent of American-style Chinese food. The ribs were extremely tender, and the sauce was sweet without being too overpowering. Pairing bites with rice and cucumbers kept me wanting more. The bok choy on the plate was simply boiled, and while I enjoy clean, plain vegetables, others might expect a bit more. Braised Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10): There are many noodle options to try here, and we went with the regular hand-pulled. The noodles were good, though I personally wished they were a bit firmer. The broth had a deep umami flavour and was exceptionally well seasoned. I found myself dunking rice from the set plate into the broth and just eating that. The meat could have used a little more character, as it was just tender slices, but it didn't need much more since the broth carried the dish. Cozy little restaurant with some funky decor. The menu seems anchored by the signature beef soup, with many different cuts of beef and types of noodles to enjoy it with. The beef rib seemed to be hands down the most popular choice. Chicken Wings: Didn't seem to have any coating/batter. Super crispy. Had a layer of fat beneath the crispy skin, so not like the rendered off Korean style. And a nice soy taste. Beef Rib Knife Cut Noodles: This looked epic. Two huge ribs sticking out a bowl of squiggly noodles and glowing red soup. It tasted great too. The beef ribs had such tender and flavorful meat morsels. Thankfully I wasn't trying to impress anyone, so I ate the ribs by hand. The knife cut noodles were fun, with a springy chewy texture. But the real star was the broth. Such slow cooked beef goodness. Definitely a neighborhood gem! They had a few vegetarian noodle soup options which is a little unlikely for a traditional Chinese noodle place. I trusted my instincts and chose this for a post hike meal. I walked into the restaurant before 5 in the evening, starving. It was empty! What I loved is they put in some effort to make the noodles vegetarian with a bunch of toppings, not just noodles, cabbage and soup. Came here for lunch with my parents on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. NOBODY else was here, and we pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves. The floral decor is pretty and there's pictures of Cai Shen Yeh (the god of wealth). Beef noodle soup was very good and flavorful with plenty of cilantro. I got the thick handpulled noodles, which had a great texture. My mom got wonton soup, and my dad got a fish soup with the regular hand pulled noodles. Great service. This Better Be Worth It... Burrowed on Clement Street, not far from the corner of Clement and 25th is the location of C.Q. Noodles. Upon walking in to the place from the somewhat busy night market (15 percent discount because of it), our orders were placed and the wait began--an extremely long, grueling wait in the modern, pink and purple ambience. Personally, I ordered the fried rice and watched almost all other orders come out before mine--not in one go, scattered throughout the whole hour of waiting. Finally, after everything was settled, I dug into my dish while those who got their dishes early had finished long ago. Side note (1,2): There were small portions of meat; no servers checked on our table--we had to check with them. I've been here multiple times prior, and the food tasted bland, consistent with the times I've been here before. The Verdict: I recommend not coming to CQ noodles with a larger party or if you're very hungry. Unfortunately with this visit, the wait time was extremely disappointing, and significantly lowered the level of my general experience. ​On a long Halloween night, we were searching for Asian food still open past 9 PM when we found CQ Noodle nearby. ​We were immediately greeted by (I believe) the owner, who gave us a very warm welcome and promptly seated our group of seven. ​We ordered a variety of dishes: their special beef rib noodles, fried rice, tomato beef noodles, shredded chicken, soup dumplings, and pan-fried dumplings. First went to CQ Noodles early last year and loved it. Had one of the beef soups, and knew we had to come back eventually. Heard the place closed down for a bit but reopened, so took the chance to come eat here. Got the beef soup that comes with the large bone, and was even able to customize! FYI - C.Q. stands for ChongQing. He got the ChongQing Style Roast Beef Noodle Soup - that came with knife shaven noodles. While I got the Shredded Pork with Fermented VegNoodles (it's not knife shaven noodles FYI) - it came in this special pot situation that kept the noodles piping hot all night - which did make it difficult to eat because it would burn my lips while eating or hot soup would splash on my lips. It was still boiling when it came out for awhile (the soup). It was really good. ^ I would recommend if you get this dish maybe to get this is share amongst with a lot of other side dishes/skewers/one other dish to try first while it cools down a bit. The server did warn me that this would be really spicy.. I don't think it was spicy in my opinion just hot. But my man did say it was 'spicy' hot with the oil in the noodle. He also choose chicken heart and gizzards skewers to share - they were really good! That might be the first time we've had chicken heart and I naturally don't gravite towards gizzards. Totes recommend both. The chicken hearts are a total winner for me; never realized how small they would be. Chewy but not overtly. We sat in the window corner. Quite a lovely spot. The bottom neon on lights came on mid-meal as it got darker which we weren't expecting - if you don't like being by bright lights - opt for inner seating if anything. I took some of the soups home, but of course the noodles didn't keep. Still, the broth was still savory. We were distracted by the chicken wings, and they didn't come out before but a little after the soup. The texture was crispy, and the honey came through in the sauce. All six pieces were the middle wing part which I enjoyed. They automatically give you a cold sweet tea upon sitting down, but they will bring you water upon request. This is one of my favorite places in San Francisco for noodles on a cold day that provides the numbing spice! Most recently, my friend and I came here on a weekend afternoon and were seated immediately. The restaurant had a short wait by the time we left, however. The mirrors that cover one wall of the restaurant allow for an illusion of a big space, making it seem very roomy. We ordered the House Special Beef Rib Noodle Soup, Braised Pork Slices, and Chongqing Style Pork Trotters Noodle Soup. Our orders came out in a timely manner, and we were more than full by the end of our meal and had to take leftovers. The braised pork slices were placed over many small mushrooms, and they were quite juicy! Although the beef rib soup was a bit difficult to eat with its large bones, the broth was delicious along with the seasoning of the beef rib. The pork trotters noodle soup had also good non-spicy broth that my friend and I finished first. On a cold winter day, this is the first restaurant that comes to my mind when I want a hearthy soup, and it will continue to be so! read more

Unfortunately, I didn't know there was an ownership change until I was pretty surprisingly disappointed in the noodle broth flavor and saw some other yelpers mentioning the ownership and possibly chefs changed. The noodles were good and chewy, but other than that it didn't have anything else going for it. Broth was super bland and wontons were too sweet. The cucumber salad lacked nuance besides a strong vinegar flavor. I'm giving some grace to the slow service since the staff seemed like they were still figuring some things out and they gave us the cucumber salad for free for waiting. CQ Noodles was such a great gem to stumble upon on yesterday. As I was have a scratchy/ itchy throat I was craving some kind of noodles and especially hot soup to sooth the agitation. In regards to my condition, CQ noodles had one of the best beef noodles. It fell right off the bone. The thick noodles was really fresh and the mild to spicy soup was really perfect. The restaurant was quiet and (I assume father and son) workers were so helpful with being patient while I took a while to choose what I wanted to order along with frantically trying to finish work. They were so kind to let me shift around from table to table so I can charge my poorly functioning laptop. P.S. It's a hive of activity with perfunctory service and a questionable level of cleanliness but the food was really good (as my 4-star rating attested). I have no assurances but presume, given the name and menu, that C.Q. Noodles is, if not under the same ownership, at least somehow related. Here, though I had the same level of service and similar observations about the cleanliness of the space, I was less charmed by the food. Dan Dan Noodles, my order, are served dry in this location. They were chewier than expected and I missed the broth (as I'd had in the Chinatown location). They weren't bad but neither did they leave me raving. Steamed pork buns, ordered as a starter, were ample (4 to an order) but these too left me underwhelmed. It didn't feel like the food was bad here, only that it wasn't suited to my taste buds. The restaurant decor, with a (fake) floral ceiling arrangement, initially stunned in a good way but the longer I sat in the space different impressions arose. I understand things like an occasional dirty napkin on the floor, and perhaps some loose change, but the presence of multiple tables left uncleared long after diners departed left an overall negative impression of the space. Another average Chinese noodle soup place that's overrated. We arrived on a Friday afternoon about 1:30 after the lunch crowd had died down. There was only one other set of patrons when our party of 3 arrived. We were shown to our table by a grumpy middle aged man. The seats are hard wooden benches and rather uncomfortable. It seems like a lot of restaurants have these - it would be nice to have some removable cushions for patrons but none were visible. We started off with a scallion pancake ($6.95) with a sweet dipping sauce and shared amongst us. Our order consisted of a House special beef rib noodle soup (non spicy) ($17.95), a braised beef noodle soup (non-spicy) ($16.45) and a moderately spicy vegetable noodle soup ($13.95). Our waiter (middle aged man) must not have been paying attention as beef braised soup was spicy and the vegetarian soup was not. Nothing special about the flavors - it was good though. The uncomfortable seating, unwelcoming service, and the screwed up order detracts from this place. Since there were few patrons, it is no excuse for goofing up the order. This place is heaven for my tastebuds. My partner was craving spicy noodles on a cold day and we stumbled upon C.Q. Noodles. We both ordered the Chong Qing Style lamb noodle soup. I have a low spice tolerance and made the mistake of getting mild the first time. I was chugging water but couldn't stop eating despite the spice--that's how good it is. The noodles are handmade, the lamb is so tender. They don't skimp on any of the ingredients! The second time we came here, I got no spice, and I was in much less pain. My partner however LOVES spicy food so he is able to manage. Although we live in the Sunset where there's Asian food on every corner, we come here at least once a month. The house special beef rib noodle soup is so flavorful. Mild was a nice spice level to enjoy the meal. While I do enjoy spice normally, medium would have been a little too much for a whole bowl. The ChongQing Style Roast Beef Noodle Soup is also a great choice, if you don't feel like working your way around the rib. The pig ears are a nice side app. I always enjoy them!
