BBQ Pork Bun and Son of Hong Kong Milk Tea
    Melissa G.

I discovered 606 through Yelp, as it's one of the top places to eat in SF, and I was really intrigued to stop by after learning more about the restaurant's story. 606 is family owned, and it's the new generation's take on Hong Kong style Chinese cuisine. I had an 11am reservation, and I noticed people lining up at the door before they even opened on a weekday! After settling in, my partner and I both ordered Son of Hong Kong Milk Teas, lunch plates, and the lunch special BBQ pork bun off the dim sum menu. The Hong Kong milk teas took a while to arrive, but they were well worth it! My partner got his iced, but I preferred the hot version that I ordered. The BBQ pork buns were a delicious starter, too! For our lunch plates, I ordered the broccoli beef, but wish I ordered Simon's Garlic Chicken. One bite of my partner's made me realize why it's so popular. 606 offers generous portions and great home styling cooking in a clean, modern space!

Very pleased overall with the food and authentic tasting fresh food! Was happy I was able to secure a reservation online. Definitely a must try while in Chinatown for some delicious Cantonese style cooking!

Ive ordered take out twice and plan on trying different dishes in the future. The first visit felt like some of the items needed more salt. The second visit all the dishes turned out wonderful.

After walking around Chinatown, I recommended to my friend to grab a bite here, because last time I came, it was newly opened and renovated with limited items. She immediately loved the brightly lit clean space. We ordered pot stickers, Bok Choy, and bbq pork fried rice. Everything was yummy, arrived efficiently, beautifully presented, and with attentive service! We also loved our hot Hong Kong milk tea!

Great chinese food! high quality and very tasty. Vibes are very casual inside, but still a great place to reserve for friends or a date. Service was phenomenal, felt very attentive.

Went to 606 the Monday before Christmas because my girlfriend's family was visiting and we wanted to take them out to North Beach/Chinatown area to explore some bites. Since we were a big group of 11, we wanted to make a reservation in advance, and 606 had one available for our size group. Long story short, this spot was a hit with the family. They don't get to eat a lot of traditional Chinese food dishes in their hometown. We went with classics like siu mai, har gow, walnut prawns, hot and sour soup, broccoli beef, and XLBs, just to name a few. The standouts for me easily was the walnut shrimp, probably the best I've ever had and would come back for this dish alone. It was perfect bite and mouthfeel. Highly recommend ordering that. The rest of the food was pretty good. The one I didn't like was XLBs though, not a ton of soup inside and honestly whenever I see it come in those aluminum tins, I already have low expectations, because they are never as good. Everything else was great though. I think another thing that elevated the experience was the amazing customer service. Since the fam didn't know what to order they were super patient with us and the owner Eugene made it a point to interact and engage with my family. Eugene spoke a little bit of Spanish, and my gf dad only really speaks Spanish, so it meant a lot to him that Eugene communicated with him in Spanish. It's those little yet meaningful gestures that truly go a long way!

606 is an absolute gem for Cantonese / Hong Kong-style cafe food in SF. From the moment we walked in, the service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was spacious and comfortable. There were no cramped tables or feeling rushed. The food though... unreal. I have never eaten so fast in my life, and that's how you know it's good. My partner and I ordered five dishes, and every single plate was completely wiped clean and demolished. Here's what we ordered: * Hong Kong milk teas (one hot, one cold) - perfectly strong and balanced * Green onion pancake - crispy * Honey walnut shrimp - sweet, crunchy, and fried to perfection * Fried tofu with string beans - a MUST try, so flavorful and crispy *'Beef chow fun - a classic, you can't really go wrong * XLB (soup dumplings) - bursting with broth and flavor We literally only had three honey walnut shrimps left in the end!!! 606 left us extremely full and satisfied. Everything tasted incredibly authentic and well-seasoned. This is the kind of place where you don't have to question what to order. Just get what sounds good and trust it'll be delicious. Would absolutely go again. Authentic food, great service, and spacious seating. Highly recommend.

Went on Thanksgiving day as they were one of the few restaurants that were open and had reservation spots still. I was really impressed with the service and hospitality. We were greeted warmly and they were very attentive (almost too much so; we had someone checking in on us every 10 minutes). I have had my fair share of Chinese food, from hole in the wall to upscale, and 606 did not disappoint overall. I tried the salt and pepper tofu and green beans, salt and pepper fish, and garlic chicken. All were recommended to us by our waiter as being popular items. Nothing stood out as being amazing but overall the food was pretty good. Portion sizes were pretty normal and price points were what you would expect for slightly more elevated Chinese cuisine. Ambiance wise, the restaurant is clean and modern and comfortable. We had a very pleasant experience overall.

Clean, bright and quiet dining space. Varied menu, from dim sum and entrees to lunch plate specials. Loved the sautéed pea shoots and shrimp steamed dumplings the most. Also liked the pork soup dumplings. Tried the espresso and tonic and it was surprising good.

this place is amazing - I have been 3 times and have tried almost everything on the menu. I went for the end of lunar new year with some friends and our favorite item was the salt and pepper wings. Other favorites were simon's garlic chicken, chow mein, broccoli beef and bbq pork buns. It is a family run business and the owners are so nice! The are very personable and have a great story. The service is quick and ambiance is nice and modern.

When I say this is my first stop after landing in San Francisco, this is my absolute first stop! It is my standard for Chinese food and the food quality combined with personal recommendations, and friendliness of the staff never disappoint. I've previously reviewed the salt and pepper calamari, it's perfectly seasoned and fried. You will never regret ordering this! 10/10 Beef Chow Fun I've tried so many times to make this at home but never got the flavor quite like this. The fresh green onions with the flavors of the beef is so perfectly cooked, I highly recommend this for sharing! If you're in San Francisco and looking for Authentic Hong Kong milk tea, delicious and authentic Chinese food, as well as kind people.... you found it!

The first time I ate here was back in June 2024, and I thought everything was quite good! I came back again recently, and everything was still as tasty as I remembered. FOOD // Thoughts from our most recent meal: + BBQ Pork fried rice: this had a really nice wok hei aroma, even though it didn't look charred - the chef has skills! We practically inhaled this. + Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu and String Beans: the tofu were perfectly fried, with a delicate crispy exterior and a soft interior. We did wish there were more string beans in the dish, since it was listed under the Vegetables section, but it was mostly tofu. + Salt & Pepper Fish: crispy exterior coating, with moist and tender fish inside. I've had salt and pepper fish at a lot of Chinese restaurants; 606's version feels like a healthier, elevated version, with an even coating of batter (not overly thick) and not excessively salty as some places can be. The peppers that came with it were not spicy at all (and I say that as someone who orders mild or no spice at restaurants). + Dry fried chicken wings (sweet & spicy): the sauce is sweet with a tiny hint of spice. The meat inside was juicy. + Simon's Garlic Chicken: this seemed like a similar coating and sweet-savory flavor as the dry fried chicken wings, but with boneless pieces of chicken instead. This went really well with rice! + HK milk tea: a well-balanced cup of HK milk tea, with an aromatic, rich black tea flavor that's tempered by the sweetness of the condensed milk. Other dishes we've tried in the past and enjoyed: + Dry Fry Beef Hor Fun + Fried Tofu with Chopped Shrimp + Dry Fried String Beans, Salt & Pepper Fish + Pork & Cabbage Potstickers + Singapore style curry stir fried vermicelli noodles SERVICE + AMBIANCE // + Service was great. The staff were friendly and felt very genuine when they were checking up on us to ask how the food was and if we needed anything else. + Even though the restaurant was completely full, our food came out pretty quickly. + Convenient location on Columbus, with large windows on two sides for people-watching while waiting for your food. ~ The restaurant was a bit cold; it was cold outside too, but it didn't seem like the heat was on indoors. I kept my puffy on, which was fine, but I do wish it had been a bit warmer inside so the food wouldn't get cold as quickly as it did. OVERALL // This is a solid spot for yummy Hong Kong/Chinese food! It's not the cheapest spot in the area, but you're paying for good quality & service too. I'd bring both out-of-towners and my family here.

Incredible Chinese food in Chinatown SF. Clean, modern interior with impeccable service. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation and was seated immediately. Service was quick and our waiter was constantly filling up our waters and checking in on us! We ordered the Har Gai, rice noodles, green beans, and chicken. I would order all of them again immediately. So delicious and such quality Chinese food!

Her response... "Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

We arrived at 5:40PM for our 5:45 reservation, but there is no hostess area, so, we had to grab one of the waitstaff. Once we got her attention, we were seated right away. We opted for the bar seating because we always want to be close to the kitchen action, and we were not disappointed. We ordered the following: 1. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad - fresh, crunchy Jellyfish tossed with spicy yellow mustard. Not really hot type of spicy, but the "clear your sinus" type that gets you at the end of the mouthful. XO Escargot w/Milk Bread - at first we wondered why the Milk Bread, then we found out its for lapping up the XO sauce. Definitely a different way to serve escargot! The Escargots are cooked with the spicy XO sauce and served in shell. Be careful when you are sucking the juice from the shells, or, you might get sauce going down the lungs. A definite A+. Fried Squab - what's the difference between a quail and a squab? The squab is slightly bigger and a little more gamey. But the crispy skin and tasty meat, no wonder it's a crowd favorite. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage and Bacon - a standard Cantonese family dish served with a raw egg on top. A very savory dish with a hint of sweetness from the Chinese sausage. Fish Fragrant Eggplant - chopped eggplant stewed with fish sauce and served with bonito flakes. Very flavorful dish that just makes your taste buds want more. We finished off with the Red Bean Shaved Ice, which had boba and ice cream in the middle. A cooling finish to a Sichuan dining experience. Oh, the Free Bites of Roasted Peanuts and Smashed Cucumbers were very good and comparable to paid sides at other restaurants. Our server was funny and entertaining. The whole experience was definitely worth the wait. Come here and you can't go wrong!!

The servers were on top of their game, and every time a menu item was brought out, they would cross it out at the table, to ensure all our food was brought out. Each dish came out piping hot (especially the dumpling and wontons), and my favorite main dish was definitely the Braised Seafood + Tofu in Clay Pot. Pair that with some rice and your set. The servers were quick to seat us, give us water and take our orders using their tablets. We ordered the pan fried dumplings and the scallion pancakes. Everything was delicious! The dumplings had a good amount of filling and were hot and fresh. The scallion pancakes had plenty of scallions which I appreciated. I mean it wouldn't be scallion pancakes without the ample amount of scallions, right?! Lots of customers were having breakfast and I noticed many people ordered congee, so it must be one of their best sellers. Our bellies were satisfied and we were out of there in under 30 minutes. Bill came out to be about $23 after taxes and before tip. This place is great for a group of friends or families to sit down and have a meal while visiting Chinatown. The front of the restaurant has a kiosk to place orders as well (not sure if it's only for take-out orders). It's definitely a restaurant I would go back to when we are in the area again.

My favorite turned out to be the Prawns, large, fresh and lightly tempura-battered. The duck, and especially lobster, were messy dishes, made messier by the lack of knives, forks, crackers and mallets I'm used to preparing such dishes with. The duck was chopped, served bone-on, so fingers were necessary to pull apart the meat. Likewise, the lobster was served in pieces and I believe was meant to be cracked although the claw meat was terribly difficult, dare I say painful. to reach. If able we'd have taken the lobster home and properly broken out all the meat. Instead, we left much of the lobster on the plate. Still, a fun place. We enjoyed our meal.

When ordering the BBQ pork (char siu), I always ask for a leaner portion since I prefer it without too much fat. There wasn't much of a line this time--decades ago and even pre-pandemic, there was almost always a long wait during their busier times like during lunch and dinner hours. A relative of mine used to work here over 30 years ago, and I remember how nonstop and demanding it was. It was hardly a slow or relaxed environment. They also suggested adding mochi to my order. I passed this time, but I'll give it a try on my next visit. These days, there's a lot more competition along the Noriega corridor, which may explain the change in crowds. Still, it's nice to come back for the familiar Cantonese foods I grew up with and love.

We came on Thursday and got the roasted pork and pig tongue. My mom really liked the roasted pork,…read morethe skin was crispy and the meat was super tender. The pig tongue, however, wasn't really her thing and didn't have much flavor. We also tried the coconut mochi ($3.80 for 3). It was pretty good, with black sesame, peanuts, and sugar inside. They also have ginger pig feet and pork belly, which we might try next time. Overall, solid spot if you're here for roasted pork!

The location is kind of confusing, however look above the building and you'll find the Hong Kong Clay Pot Restaurant sign. There is a upstairs to enter the restaurant. The inside decorations are simple and the tables enough to accommodate a lot of people. Going there early is an advantage. We got served hot tea and the lady gotten our orders quickly. Now let's talk about the high lights of the dishes! The West Lake soup has a clear broth with egg clouds and bite sized meat. It's a good starter to wam up your taste buds. I wanted to try the salt and pepper pork chop. The pork was crispy to perfection. There was enough of salt and pepper to give more seasoning. The star of the show - the Beef Stew Clay Pot! To my surprise, the staff brought the hot and sizzling stew out. He gave a table side service by pouring the stew on the clay plot. It had a 'wow' visual effect. The dish has a beef that is so tender, the mushroom, tofu and the light brown sauce went so well with the white rice. Overall, my experience at this restaurant is alleviated with good customer service and the yummy food!

We ordered : - Braised beef wonton noodle soup : noodles had that perfect springy bite, the broth was light , well seasoned & comforting. The braised beef was melt in your mouth tender, and the wontons were fresh, plump, and juicy. Everything was on point. - Fish porridge : I appreciate that the congee is not too soupy/ watered down. It was hearty and fish was delicately cooked just right, not dry or rubbery like some places. - Curry fish balls with pork rind : Good side dish, nicely seasoned with a spicy kick which we loved. Parking was relatively easy, there's metered spots across the street. Service was fast & efficient, the aunty who served us was super friendly and on top of everything. The interior is clean and comfy with a chill, welcoming vibe. Definitely planning to return, especially for another bowl of that beef noodle soup!

Ambiance: Small space with 10 closely situated tables. Chairs were uncomfortable to sit on, and the headrests failed to allow any handbags to hang on. Food: We ordered a variety of items that any other typical dim sum places offer. Any kind of dumplings we got: wrappers were too soft and fell apart as soon as they were picked up, before they could reach our plates. Green onion pancakes soaked in a lot of oil and were soggy. All other dishes were average, except crab egg noodles. That was actually very delicious. We also never got our fried rice and ended up canceling it. Noting its whooping prices and the mediocre dishes, I must say I've had better cheaper dim sum in Chinatown and in South Bay. Will not be back.

Service: It's Chinatown, so if you don't speak the language, no worries--they have a simple English menu with numbered items that makes ordering easy for everyone. It's a cool cultural vibe for sure! We had a massive order (feeding a party of 8), but they were still kind, patient, and efficient. Helpful tip: When lining up, be mindful of neighboring businesses. The owner next door did ask the line to shift away from her entrance, which was totally understandable. BONUS: They accept Apple Pay. We will absolutely return on our next trip. If you're visiting the area, we parked at Chinatown Parking for a very reasonable price, and it was an easy walk to all the restaurants we wanted to try. Pro tip: Make an afternoon of it. Grab your food and enjoy it at the local park just south of the restaurant.

It's a whole other experience when you don't have to deal with the bones. Rice, gai lan and bun to round it out. Yum. 1/2 duck with sides is about right for 3. On to the ambiance- dark blue walls, dark wood and metal furniture, pretty red Chinese lanterns, and pretty serving ware. Bummer there isn't a patio but you can't have everything. Then we got the bill and I was happy to see that the 'healthy sf' tax wasn't separated out. I find that practice irritating as to me it implies there is something wrong with paying for employee healthcare. At the moment I envy all of those states that are upset about paying $3 a gallon but that's a whole other diatribe....
