    Seafood noodles

On a recent trip to San Francisco, my friend and I were craving good Chinese food after a long road trip and afternoon of sightseeing. We tried to do a little research, but things were closing on the early side. A friend suggested this restaurant that he had dined out with his family went in town. We arrived about half hour before closing, and the place was huge. There was a bar, bar area and it appeared to have at least 3 to 4 dining rooms on multiple levels. It was very lively and full. They told us they didn't have a table, but we absolutely begged and agreed to order within five minutes. This was no problems since we had already looked at the menu before arriving. Everything looked and smelled so good at the other tables that we just had to try the Peking Duck. It was crispy, juicy and fantastic with the scallions and bow, as well as as the hoisin sauce. I've been craving this dish for a long time and the restaurant fulfilled all my cravings. We ordered the seafood garlic noodle. They said they were out of crab, but still charged us the full price. I think it's a personal thing but for me the noodles were too thick and I didn't get much garlic flavor. It also had quite a small amount of seafood although the shrimp and scallops inside were on the large side. I missed the crab. The mixed vegetable dish with mushrooms was so fresh and had such a lovely combination of vegetables. It even had lotus root, and everything was cooked to perfection. I think on par with the duck my favorite dish was the eggplant with garlic sauce. The menu said it was spicy, but for me, it was not too spicy. It had bamboo shoots, black mushrooms, scallions, and other mouthwatering seasonings. The eggplant looked caramelized, but was so tender inside. I could eat this every night if I lived closer or even in town.! We ordered dessert in advance, which was the mango Sago. It tasted like it had mango and pomelo along with the tapioca in a mango flavored pudding. We all loved it. We got there when they were closing, but I found the service to be a little abrupt. They were loudly banging dishes as they were cleaning tables, and they were rushing us, and also forgetting things we kept asking for. However, the food more than made up for it. San Francisco definitely has excellent Chinese food and this place is a shining star. They had a sign outside saying they are celebrating their 40th year.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city so decided to come here for dinner with my family. I made a reservation for Saturday at 6:15pm on tock and was pleasantly surprised that there were so many times available. We arrived and it was packed, just as I assumed. We were originally seated at the lowest floor but ended up moving to the 3rd floor since it didn't feel as cramped up there. We ordered a few dishes - salt and pepper crab (my all time favorite), golden supreme fried rice (good wok hei), honey walnut shrimp, baked Chilean sea bass (30 min prep time and came out crispy on the outside and flavorful), and veggies. No complaints on any of the dishes, they were just as tasty as I remembered. The portion of each dish was definitely smaller for the price. Our server was friendly and service was quick for the most part. Great restaurant for a get together with family and friends. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you can to ensure that you don't have to wait long when you arrive, especially on the weekend. I'm glad that the quality remains the same after all these years.

Overall the best Cantonese seafood restaurant in the city with delicious food, exceptional service (Ken was very attentive, friendly and gave great recommendations ), busy vibes and clean dining room.

Stopped by R & G Lounge in Chinatown around 6:00 PM on a Wednesday. I just walked over from my hotel and grabbed a table, though the place was already filling up fast. The food came out quick. The fried rice was fire--honestly might be the best I've ever had. I also had the sea bass, which was solid, but seeing the salt and pepper crab at every table around me made it clear what the move is for next time. That dish looked incredible. Definitely coming back to run it again. They make a solid old fashion too. Would have given them 5 stars but the vibe/atmosphere was meh.

After coming here several times, I finally got around to making a proper review. The wife and I stopped by after work while in the city, and this is one of her favorite restaurants in Chinatown. This place has been around for a long time, and the food doesn't disappoint. There are several dining areas, with the main being underground. Parking is easy right across the street. We ordered four dishes and they were all excellent. Our starter was the crab meat and fish maw soup, a classic that I always order when available. The maw is usually where places screw up, as when it's done poorly, it can be rough and too crunchy. No complaints here. The special beef was very tender, but otherwise unimpressive. It's just not really what I'm into. The steamed clams with egg custard were excellent, and reminded me of Chawanmushi. Our last was the scallop on tofu, and this was one of my favorites. The service was a little slow, but warm and no-nonsense and expected considering how busy they were. The interior is pretty typical of a Chinese restaurant. The place can become quite packed during normal meal hours, so it's best to come early if you want a spot. Portion sizes are great. Overall a great place to eat when in the area. I've yet to try the crab (which is what this place is known for), but will update when I do.

R & G lounge was suggested by a server from another restaurant we went to. He said this place has the best Chinese food. He wasn't wrong. Place was very busy and we know why... we may not have ordered the most popular items, however ww we're happy with what we did order

Even on a Saturday lunch during Chinese new year, the service was attentive and good and the food came out pretty quickly. Everything we had was cooked well. Flavor was good, although slightly on the lighter-salt side, which is fine since we had older guests. They have salt, white pepper, soy, and hot sauce available on the side.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in SF. Yes, it is that good. The food feels fresh and light yet so flavorful. I've gotten takeout for here for work for years but we finally got to eat at the restaurant. Upstairs dining is fancier, downstairs dining is more low key. Locals and courtiers can be found here. Everything was amazing. Highly recommend coming here with a group or as a couple. I'll definitely come back.

First off, parking in this area was a nightmare. And it didn't help that we were here on a Chinese New Year weekend too! The good thing was that my wife and son dropped off so we could make a table reservation (45 minutes wait time) while my daughter and I went looking for parking. We were lucky to find a spot in a nearby underground parking structure...after 30 minutes of going around the area. The food, for me, was not really that fantastic. It was typical Chinese tasting fare, so I was wondering why the people lined up for this place and waited 45 minutes to be seated and served. Our regular Chinese dimsum in Sacramento tasted much the same (or maybe better) and with a lesser wait time than this place. For the taste, I think a lot of the plates served were priced just too much. But the staff were very attentive. And the place was nicely decorated. If there was no line outside for entering this place, I would recommend you to try this place. If not, there is a lot of other places nearby that can give this place decent competition...

Finally got to try this Chinatown staple! We went on a super busy night with no reservation but ended up getting two high chairs on the first level. We enjoyed it, though. Felt quiet and intimate. I had to have some soup to start. Simple and clean, but tasted very delicious and prepared my gut for the heavier stuff I would eat later. Peking duck was delicious. Skin was crispy and nicely done. This was very filling for two people. Our second dish was the macadamia nut with scallop and steak. This was very delicious as well. We had this with white rice. The dish did't have any sauce so the rice was not super necessary. The steak was very coursely peppered and seasoned, while still juicy on the inside. Scallops were big and meaty. I enjoyed chewing on the string beans and chomping on the macadamia nuts. Rare I see macadamia nuts on any menu. My drink was Strong! Perhaps even stronger than my boyfriend's Manhattan. I ordered some cocktail with tequila and that definitely came through. The unfortunate part about dining with two people is not being able to try as many items off the menu. The menu is huge so I recommend coming with a big group. I enjoyed the service and it's clear there are a lot of regulars that go here and are familiar with the wait staff. Love that this restaurant means a lot to the SF Chinese community. Until next time!

This place is an SF Chinatown institution. They've been around for about 40 years feeding locals and tourists alike some of the best Canto Chinese food this side of the Pacific. The service here felt very hospitable and friendly. With a mix of nostalgia and just a great classic operation, this is the type of restaurant that just gives me pure joy to eat at. No instagram-able cheese pulls here or coming here to be seen. The vibe of this place is just a classic family style Chinese restaurant that has higher end seafood offerings as well as classic Cantonese staples and a good amount of vegetable dishes. I can't imagine the amount of celebrations that came through this place over the years. On a recent visit, I took my parents and my aunt for a nice meal out in the City (coming from the East Bay). I wanted to treat them since I miss out on a lot of celebrations during the year. My mom chose this place because it's one of her favorite restaurants. I started with a very delicious lychee martini along with the customary tea they put out for the tables. We ordered: - crab and winter melon soup - half Peking duck - Golden Supreme fried rice (with a bit of seafood mixed in) - Hong Kong style beef chow mein - three treasure - eggplant, tofu, and hot peppers with some shrimp paste in a savory black bean sauce - mixed vegetables and mushrooms I thought we ordered very well and slightly more than enough food (perfect) for all of us. It was a good variety without getting into the pricier seafood items, although I would love to come back and have their salt and pepper crab again since it's been soooo long. Fun fact: This is one of the first restaurants my family did a trip for and ate at when I was too young to remember. My parents took me and my brothers on BART from Hayward to SF to eat here a very long time ago and been here a few times while growing up. This may have been my first visit as an adult and first time treating my parents vs. the other way around. Parking can be hectic in this area. There is lots of metered parking on the streets though. We parked in a subterranean parking lot about half a block over and it came to about $8 for a leisurely meal and a little bit of walking around the Chinatown area (can't remember how long it was)

Everything is so good! I loved the peking duck. I need to come back, because I heard the crab is the thing to get - will be updating review next time. The service was great - everything is made upon order so certain items take a while to come out but it's disclosed on the menu and totally worth it. There is a lot of seating inside and it's great for large groups. Can't wait to come back to try the crab!

Another successful 5k run ending up here to refuel. All dishes seasoned to perfection and full of that "wok fire" taste... delicious food, fast friendly service in casual ambiance.

"Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Even while at the bar, we never felt for lack of space. They paced the dishes out perfectly, so there was always room to eat and enjoy. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

Memorial weekend Saturday - got walking in that day, I asked the person who sat us if any of the…read morenoodle dishes had soy (they all have soy), she asked if I was gluten-free and I said no, allergy to soy so I will get something else. This person who took our order asked if there were any allergies, I said soy and her eyes lit up while she calming asked, 'soy-sauce', and I list soysauce and all the soy things that fall in that umbrella. I order my item, the chicken wings and item to share: the pan-fried dumplings, while my partner ordered one of the noodle soups. She comes back later and points out that the noodle soup has soy - much apperciated because people sometimes share, etc. And I said it was just for my partner. -- The chicken wings were plump, crispy, the first two were 'heathly', didn't taste the salt, and the rest were packed with flavor. If you're looking for consistency there is a #1 spot in Chinatown for chicken wings which I will not disclose in this review. But, otherwise, for flavor - I like it here. My partner said he didn't find the ones here oily but I said the bottom ones were a little and I did enjoy it. The panfried dumplings - the meat was succulent and delicious, I didn't think there was enough soup, these ones are smaller than other places, but the meat is massive. They were good, not my favorite ever, but I think the meat was the best hands-down anywhere. - It was very busy with perhaps locals and tourists. The table on our left were these two white men in the architeture field - super vulgar and sexist talking about people they don't like, it would defintely be an HR red flag. And then to the corner on the right, there was this little family who hadn't had soup dumplings before - the grown kids ate with their hands and the parents with forks (I love to see people trying new things), I didn't see all of this going on but I asked my partner who kept looking over.. Yes, my partner was judging you but kudos to trying new things however it is. - For large parties - you'll have to wait awhile. QR waitlist kiosk thing in at the front. ** I truly apperciate food safety and staff being attentive which makes patrons more confident and are able to make more safely informed decisions when ordering.

There wasn't much of a line this time--decades ago and even pre-pandemic, there was almost always a long wait during their busier times like during lunch and dinner hours. A relative of mine used to work here over 30 years ago, and I remember how nonstop and demanding it was. It was hardly a slow or relaxed environment. They also suggested adding mochi to my order. I passed this time, but I'll give it a try on my next visit. These days, there's a lot more competition along the Noriega corridor, which may explain the change in crowds. Still, it's nice to come back for the familiar Cantonese foods I grew up with and love.

The pig tongue, however, wasn't really her thing and didn't have much flavor. We also tried the coconut mochi ($3.80 for 3). It was pretty good, with black sesame, peanuts, and sugar inside. They also have ginger pig feet and pork belly, which we might try next time. Overall, solid spot if you're here for roasted pork!
