Order at the counter, let them know whether you are dining in or getting togo food. They give you a receipt with a number on it and you watch the display to see when your food comes up. The food was heavenly. I got the rice crepe orders 1 and 2, and the rice paper was so soft. I enjoyed with some special sauce, sweet sauce, and chili sauce and every bite was remarkable. When I've had these at dim sum restaurants or bought cold from the Asian grocery store and I steam it myself, the sheet of rice is firmer on the one hand, on the other hand there's also less overall volume too. Decided to come back and take the hubs here when we had an afternoon going to our favorite shops in Chinatown. The rolls are freshly made but what I liked about them was that the noodles are so thin! Dim sum places have rice noodles that are thicker skinned but these are thin and light! You go to the counter and order the noodle roll then an automated voice calls out hour number when your order is ready. You can choose a veggie to put in your rolls and there's peanut or chili oil to put on the rolls, but the best really is the house special soy sauce. It seems to be a neighborhood spot for the locals with some tourists sprinkled in here and there. Pretty chill place but very hole in the wall. Fun place for a quick no nonsense bite. This is classic Cantonese breakfast place. Whenever I have a medical appointment in FiDi and I come out with positive news about whatever, I reward myself with comfort food like corned beef hash...or jook if I can find a good one in Chinatown. I had never been here before, but I noticed on their menu, they serve one kind of jook amid quite a selection of Cantonese steamed rice rolls. The rice rolls are practically what everybody else ordered. First things first though, I ordered the $5.99 Large Pork & Preserved Egg Congee, which came topped with chopped green onion (Photo 7). The texture of the rice porridge was a tad on the watery side, but there were enough bits of pork and preserved egg to satisfy. I made room for their specialty and ordered the $6.91 BBQ Pork Rice Roll (Photo 10). I agree this is where they excel. I was expecting it to be more like a rolled crepe, but it was presented flat on a plate where the translucence of the steamed rice sheets allowed the pork and cabbage filling to be visibly appetizing. It was sliced up for easy consumption. The taste was silky with a slight chew, and a splash of hot sauce enhanced the porkiness of the flavor. I'd probably come back for the combo special rice roll next time. Food was good. I ordered the bbq pork rice roll with cilantro. Although, it's really just pork. No hint of any bbq at all. I really couldn't focus on the food so much, because my first plate I was given had a long hair in it after I put some hot chili oil on it. It's an open container, so I can see how that can happen. The guy working the register took it back to make me a new one and didn't offer an apology or anything. I also mentioned it to him that the hair came from the chili oil so he should probably switch it out. He said okay, but didn't do anything. When he brought out my second plate, I mentioned it to him again about switching out the hot oil, and he said ok again without doing anything. I finished my rice roll and brought it up to his attention one more time as people were using the tainted chili oil after I had discovered the hair. Even after the third time, he didn't seem bothered. This place clearly doesn't care about something as gross as a hair in the chili oil so I definitely won't be coming back.
