Pork belly
Raymond C.

Homestyle cooking of authentic taishan food. My favorite is their salt and pepper ribs and their spicy sliced pork belly. Add a bowl of rice to complete the full meal. Though a bit greasy, it's what's needed for the "wok hey" (flavor to come out of the ingredients). I for one would be coming back here to try their other foods. I love that this place is open late night till 3am and service is swift. Lots of indoor seating for small and large parties.

My parents love this spot for some reason, if you see free childcare at the restaurant, you know it's legit! Haha You need to know Chinese to get the waitress/waiter attention or it's going to be difficult to flag them down. Everyone gets their famous whole chicken , it's really juicy ! They rip the chicken in front of you to enjoy. This spot close at 3AM for all the uncles or aunties to get late night grub after gambling/mahjong. The place is a little dirty , but it gets the job done !

Hole in the wall place looking like the owners probably live there as well. Outside had restaurant chairs to hung out in apparently. Local "disturbed " man shouting outside to himself. Not safe feeling but was meeting people there so had to take the chance. Family photos on walls with a lot of posters and signed all in Chinese. Kids toy bikes under tables. Crates and supplies stacked along the walls. Service was slow and not interactive. Where place lacked in service & decor made up for with delicious food. Food came out quick. 5 stars for food.

Was craving clay pot rice and had heard great things about this place. It's a smaller restaurant but has some big tables for bigger parties. We came around 6:00 PM on a Saturday and got seated immediately. The place has a very strong family-owned atmosphere with cute kids running around and employees adorably having to chase after them. It was very comforting and reminiscent of my childhood. We got the Hot and Spicy Sichuan Style Chicken and Kohlrabi Clay Pot Rice. Portions are huge, so we brought a lot of food home afterwards. The food comes out pretty fast too! Hot and Spicy Sichuan Style Chicken: 4/5, nice and crispy, the peppers are not overwhelming. Kohlrabi Clay Pot Rice: 5/5, I wasn't expecting to like it this much! The kohlrabi provides a sweetness that compliments the savory flavors of the rice. The yellow eel clay pot rice is more famous but this one is so good (and much cheaper) -- must try! I'm excited to have a good clay pot rice place on hand now. I can't wait to be back!

Great hole in the wall find. Opened until 3am! A bit farther out from the main roads of Chinatown but worth it. They have dim sum, rice plates, family style, clay pot and hot pot. Something for everyone. Again, don't expect anything clean but the food was tasty enough. Service was decent, but expected for authentic cooking.

Was visiting a good friend who recently moved to the city and she took me here for lunch. I haven't had clay pot rice in a while so was excited to give this spot a try. We got their Kohlrabi clay pot rice and steam scallop with vermicelli. The clay pot rice was flavorful and crispy. Scallop vermicelli had a good amount of scallops and was also very flavorful. They are generous with their portions here. We still had a good chunk to bring home for a second meal. Service was fast and staff was friendly. I'll definitely be back to try their other Clay pots and dishes

Blue crab chicken pot

Second time here in a few months, ordered only two pots (and enough for 3 adults!): the eel clay pot rice (as usual), and the blue crab chicken pot. Loved both. This time the food came faster than last time. Still highly recommend!

Salted fish eggplant clay pot rice

We stopped by for dinner. Taishan is one of few Chinatown restaurants open later into the evening. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, and the only table available was the large table next to the register where staff eat, so they cleared it off and gave us 2 seats there to avoid needing to wait for another party to leave. We ordered the kohlrabi clay pot rice and the salted fish eggplant clay pot. Kohlrabi clay pot rice was great - lots of flavor, the kohlrabi was well-seasoned and soft without being mushy, lots of crispy rice at the bottom, and a giant portion (as it should be given it costs $30). The salted fish eggplant clay pot was also really tasty and had great flavor. Our own complaint was it was also really oily. Service was fast and friendly. Would come back!

Hot and sour soup

My husband and I flew into SF around 11pm on a Thursday, and we are so happy we found this dim sum place! The food was delicious! We got the green beans, the hot sour soup, bao buns, xio long bao, and porn and shrimp sumai. We are happy to support a small, family owned business!

A restaurant that's open til 0300, perfect snack time for me. I ordered the lamb stew, that was a no brainer, anyone that has lamb is alright in my book. All I can say is the dish was empty when I got done with it. It had some bean curd stick but no shitake mushrooms in the dish, I had to order a bowl of rice to sop up all that wonderful sauce that it was stewed in. I also ordered xlb, but that was a huge disappointment, it was real real salty and it only had five to an order, but that wouldn't have mattered since it was way too salty. I would come back just for the lamb and because they're open decent hours that match my eating schedule.

Singapore noodles with prawns

Headed home after work, it was so late and had a craving for singapore noodles. Thankful I found this restaurant nearby, it's opened until 3am. Called in my order and the lady said food would be ready in 10mins. Located in China town, it looks fairly new fm the outside. Inside looks charming like you're going to dinner at a families house. We'll the food was good, piping hot and it just hit the spot! Loved that they were one of the few restaurants opened late in the city!

yellow eel clay pot rice dry fish with pork meat
haobin g.

Authentic taishan flavor! It tastes like the restaurant in Kaiping or taishan in China. The claypot rice is really good and the portion is huge (enough for 4 ppl). Dry fish with pork meat (咸鱼蒸肉饼)is my personal favorite because it has a unique flavor. The pork patties absorbed the salty and fresh taste of the salted fish, and the soup was added while steaming, which elevated both ingredients. The server mainly speaks Cantonese or mandarin, and they do speak English. Just be a little patient with them, and ur food will be served right away :)

vege spring rolls
Neville B.

Small and quaint restaurant with nice staff. I ordered the vegetable egg rolls, shu mai, and beef wonton soup. The vegetable egg rolls came in a plate of 5 with a sweet and sour sauce dip. Very fresh tasting and crispy. The shu mai seemed to be freshly steamed, but I felt I needed hot mustard or soy sauce. The beef noodle soup was comforting. The cuts of beef may not be for everyone but I didn't mind!

We ended up ordered 1/3 of the menu, probably. Everything from their speciality squab to the limited time menu items like Singaporean chile crab. The popular dessert item was the red bean shaved ice, which was very nice to balance out the meal.

"Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Even while at the bar, we never felt for lack of space. They paced the dishes out perfectly, so there was always room to eat and enjoy. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

There will be a little bit of a wait if you come at lunchtime, but the changing of tables is so quick, it's worth the wait. My table got many items to try out, including a number of dumplings and main dishes. We have no complaints! The servers were on top of their game, and every time a menu item was brought out, they would cross it out at the table, to ensure all our food was brought out. Each dish came out piping hot (especially the dumpling and wontons), and my favorite main dish was definitely the Braised Seafood + Tofu in Clay Pot. Pair that with some rice and your set. This place was such a vibe! Totally recommend; all our food came out quick --- everything was made-to-order, and they got nothing wrong. 10 out of 10!

This person who took our order asked if there were any allergies, I said soy and her eyes lit up while she calming asked, 'soy-sauce', and I list soysauce and all the soy things that fall in that umbrella. I order my item, the chicken wings and item to share: the pan-fried dumplings, while my partner ordered one of the noodle soups. She comes back later and points out that the noodle soup has soy - much apperciated because people sometimes share, etc. And I said it was just for my partner. -- The chicken wings were plump, crispy, the first two were 'heathly', didn't taste the salt, and the rest were packed with flavor. If you're looking for consistency there is a #1 spot in Chinatown for chicken wings which I will not disclose in this review. But, otherwise, for flavor - I like it here. My partner said he didn't find the ones here oily but I said the bottom ones were a little and I did enjoy it. The panfried dumplings - the meat was succulent and delicious, I didn't think there was enough soup, these ones are smaller than other places, but the meat is massive. They were good, not my favorite ever, but I think the meat was the best hands-down anywhere. - It was very busy with perhaps locals and tourists. The table on our left were these two white men in the architeture field - super vulgar and sexist talking about people they don't like, it would defintely be an HR red flag. And then to the corner on the right, there was this little family who hadn't had soup dumplings before - the grown kids ate with their hands and the parents with forks (I love to see people trying new things), I didn't see all of this going on but I asked my partner who kept looking over.. Yes, my partner was judging you but kudos to trying new things however it is. - For large parties - you'll have to wait awhile. QR waitlist kiosk thing in at the front. ** I truly apperciate food safety and staff being attentive which makes patrons more confident and are able to make more safely informed decisions when ordering.

My favorite turned out to be the Prawns, large, fresh and lightly tempura-battered. The duck, and especially lobster, were messy dishes, made messier by the lack of knives, forks, crackers and mallets I'm used to preparing such dishes with. The duck was chopped, served bone-on, so fingers were necessary to pull apart the meat. Likewise, the lobster was served in pieces and I believe was meant to be cracked although the claw meat was terribly difficult, dare I say painful. to reach. If able we'd have taken the lobster home and properly broken out all the meat. Instead, we left much of the lobster on the plate. Still, a fun place. We enjoyed our meal.
