BBQ Pork Bun and Son of Hong Kong Milk Tea
    Melissa G.

I discovered 606 through Yelp, as it's one of the top places to eat in SF, and I was really intrigued to stop by after learning more about the restaurant's story. 606 is family owned, and it's the new generation's take on Hong Kong style Chinese cuisine. I had an 11am reservation, and I noticed people lining up at the door before they even opened on a weekday! After settling in, my partner and I both ordered Son of Hong Kong Milk Teas, lunch plates, and the lunch special BBQ pork bun off the dim sum menu. The Hong Kong milk teas took a while to arrive, but they were well worth it! My partner got his iced, but I preferred the hot version that I ordered. The BBQ pork buns were a delicious starter, too! For our lunch plates, I ordered the broccoli beef, but wish I ordered Simon's Garlic Chicken. One bite of my partner's made me realize why it's so popular. 606 offers generous portions and great home styling cooking in a clean, modern space!

Very pleased overall with the food and authentic tasting fresh food! Was happy I was able to secure a reservation online. Definitely a must try while in Chinatown for some delicious Cantonese style cooking!

After walking around Chinatown, I recommended to my friend to grab a bite here, because last time I came, it was newly opened and renovated with limited items. She immediately loved the brightly lit clean space. We ordered pot stickers, Bok Choy, and bbq pork fried rice. Everything was yummy, arrived efficiently, beautifully presented, and with attentive service! We also loved our hot Hong Kong milk tea!

Ive ordered take out twice and plan on trying different dishes in the future. The first visit felt like some of the items needed more salt. The second visit all the dishes turned out wonderful.

Went to 606 the Monday before Christmas because my girlfriend's family was visiting and we wanted to take them out to North Beach/Chinatown area to explore some bites. Since we were a big group of 11, we wanted to make a reservation in advance, and 606 had one available for our size group. Long story short, this spot was a hit with the family. They don't get to eat a lot of traditional Chinese food dishes in their hometown. We went with classics like siu mai, har gow, walnut prawns, hot and sour soup, broccoli beef, and XLBs, just to name a few. The standouts for me easily was the walnut shrimp, probably the best I've ever had and would come back for this dish alone. It was perfect bite and mouthfeel. Highly recommend ordering that. The rest of the food was pretty good. The one I didn't like was XLBs though, not a ton of soup inside and honestly whenever I see it come in those aluminum tins, I already have low expectations, because they are never as good. Everything else was great though. I think another thing that elevated the experience was the amazing customer service. Since the fam didn't know what to order they were super patient with us and the owner Eugene made it a point to interact and engage with my family. Eugene spoke a little bit of Spanish, and my gf dad only really speaks Spanish, so it meant a lot to him that Eugene communicated with him in Spanish. It's those little yet meaningful gestures that truly go a long way!

Great chinese food! high quality and very tasty. Vibes are very casual inside, but still a great place to reserve for friends or a date. Service was phenomenal, felt very attentive.

606 is an absolute gem for Cantonese / Hong Kong-style cafe food in SF. From the moment we walked in, the service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was spacious and comfortable. There were no cramped tables or feeling rushed. The food though... unreal. I have never eaten so fast in my life, and that's how you know it's good. My partner and I ordered five dishes, and every single plate was completely wiped clean and demolished. Here's what we ordered: * Hong Kong milk teas (one hot, one cold) - perfectly strong and balanced * Green onion pancake - crispy * Honey walnut shrimp - sweet, crunchy, and fried to perfection * Fried tofu with string beans - a MUST try, so flavorful and crispy *'Beef chow fun - a classic, you can't really go wrong * XLB (soup dumplings) - bursting with broth and flavor We literally only had three honey walnut shrimps left in the end!!! 606 left us extremely full and satisfied. Everything tasted incredibly authentic and well-seasoned. This is the kind of place where you don't have to question what to order. Just get what sounds good and trust it'll be delicious. Would absolutely go again. Authentic food, great service, and spacious seating. Highly recommend.

Went on Thanksgiving day as they were one of the few restaurants that were open and had reservation spots still. I was really impressed with the service and hospitality. We were greeted warmly and they were very attentive (almost too much so; we had someone checking in on us every 10 minutes). I have had my fair share of Chinese food, from hole in the wall to upscale, and 606 did not disappoint overall. I tried the salt and pepper tofu and green beans, salt and pepper fish, and garlic chicken. All were recommended to us by our waiter as being popular items. Nothing stood out as being amazing but overall the food was pretty good. Portion sizes were pretty normal and price points were what you would expect for slightly more elevated Chinese cuisine. Ambiance wise, the restaurant is clean and modern and comfortable. We had a very pleasant experience overall.

Clean, bright and quiet dining space. Varied menu, from dim sum and entrees to lunch plate specials. Loved the sautéed pea shoots and shrimp steamed dumplings the most. Also liked the pork soup dumplings. Tried the espresso and tonic and it was surprising good.

The first time I ate here was back in June 2024, and I thought everything was quite good! I came back again recently, and everything was still as tasty as I remembered. FOOD // Thoughts from our most recent meal: + BBQ Pork fried rice: this had a really nice wok hei aroma, even though it didn't look charred - the chef has skills! We practically inhaled this. + Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu and String Beans: the tofu were perfectly fried, with a delicate crispy exterior and a soft interior. We did wish there were more string beans in the dish, since it was listed under the Vegetables section, but it was mostly tofu. + Salt & Pepper Fish: crispy exterior coating, with moist and tender fish inside. I've had salt and pepper fish at a lot of Chinese restaurants; 606's version feels like a healthier, elevated version, with an even coating of batter (not overly thick) and not excessively salty as some places can be. The peppers that came with it were not spicy at all (and I say that as someone who orders mild or no spice at restaurants). + Dry fried chicken wings (sweet & spicy): the sauce is sweet with a tiny hint of spice. The meat inside was juicy. + Simon's Garlic Chicken: this seemed like a similar coating and sweet-savory flavor as the dry fried chicken wings, but with boneless pieces of chicken instead. This went really well with rice! + HK milk tea: a well-balanced cup of HK milk tea, with an aromatic, rich black tea flavor that's tempered by the sweetness of the condensed milk. Other dishes we've tried in the past and enjoyed: + Dry Fry Beef Hor Fun + Fried Tofu with Chopped Shrimp + Dry Fried String Beans, Salt & Pepper Fish + Pork & Cabbage Potstickers + Singapore style curry stir fried vermicelli noodles SERVICE + AMBIANCE // + Service was great. The staff were friendly and felt very genuine when they were checking up on us to ask how the food was and if we needed anything else. + Even though the restaurant was completely full, our food came out pretty quickly. + Convenient location on Columbus, with large windows on two sides for people-watching while waiting for your food. ~ The restaurant was a bit cold; it was cold outside too, but it didn't seem like the heat was on indoors. I kept my puffy on, which was fine, but I do wish it had been a bit warmer inside so the food wouldn't get cold as quickly as it did. OVERALL // This is a solid spot for yummy Hong Kong/Chinese food! It's not the cheapest spot in the area, but you're paying for good quality & service too. I'd bring both out-of-towners and my family here.

this place is amazing - I have been 3 times and have tried almost everything on the menu. I went for the end of lunar new year with some friends and our favorite item was the salt and pepper wings. Other favorites were simon's garlic chicken, chow mein, broccoli beef and bbq pork buns. It is a family run business and the owners are so nice! The are very personable and have a great story. The service is quick and ambiance is nice and modern.

Incredible Chinese food in Chinatown SF. Clean, modern interior with impeccable service. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation and was seated immediately. Service was quick and our waiter was constantly filling up our waters and checking in on us! We ordered the Har Gai, rice noodles, green beans, and chicken. I would order all of them again immediately. So delicious and such quality Chinese food!

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon, and they have some deals for the dim sum dishes that are a bit cheaper at that time. I think the xia long baos and shrimp dumplings are quite comparable to other dim sum places around the area especially with the discount during lunch hours. And they were both very juicy and delicious. We also got some milk tea, it was a bit on the stronger side which I like and also love that the ice included in the drink was frozen milk tea as to not dilute the drink.

"Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Even while at the bar, we never felt for lack of space. They paced the dishes out perfectly, so there was always room to eat and enjoy. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

The dumplings had a good amount of filling and were hot and fresh. The scallion pancakes had plenty of scallions which I appreciated. I mean it wouldn't be scallion pancakes without the ample amount of scallions, right?! Lots of customers were having breakfast and I noticed many people ordered congee, so it must be one of their best sellers. Our bellies were satisfied and we were out of there in under 30 minutes. We ordered : - Braised beef wonton noodle soup : noodles had that perfect springy bite, the broth was light , well seasoned & comforting. The braised beef was melt in your mouth tender, and the wontons were fresh, plump, and juicy. Everything was on point. - Fish porridge : I appreciate that the congee is not too soupy/ watered down. It was hearty and fish was delicately cooked just right, not dry or rubbery like some places. - Curry fish balls with pork rind : Good side dish, nicely seasoned with a spicy kick which we loved. Parking was relatively easy, there's metered spots across the street. Service was fast & efficient, the aunty who served us was super friendly and on top of everything. The interior is clean and comfy with a chill, welcoming vibe. Definitely planning to return, especially for another bowl of that beef noodle soup!

Went here with my girlfriends to celebrate a wonderful dim sum dinner for AAPI month! We had heard about this place because it is a Michelin recognized restaurant and while we live closer to Chinatown figured it was worth heading down to SOMA. It was good, but like similar reviews say, pretty shocked with how comparable it tasted to some other dim sum places in the city. Imperial Peking Duck - 10/10! XLB - 11/10 just for the presentation! The waiter serves you the first one :) House Pan Fried noodles - 8/10, not the best but still tasty. We also had the egg cake for dessert and we've never had that before so it was nice to try something new. Would come back if I was in the area but since I'm close to Chinatown, can find places there too.

Service was okay, could've been better, but there was only one lady working the register and filling orders and you could definitely tell she was exhausted. There was also a line out the door, so one person handling ordering and filling the orders all day sounds exhausting. The food was good though! No seating, order, pay, and leave. Today we visited Good Ming Kok Bakery. The shop is small and crowded with cookware and patrons. The order board is on the wall with corresponding numbers to make it go quicker. It's a walk in, order and walk out establishment. Be prepared...there is a line. The ladies working are not personable and act as if they are doing us a favor. Very stern faced. (Service 1/5) The buns (5/5) were very tasty, light and full of meat. Definitely will keep this one on our radar when the kids come for a visit.

And there was parking in front. Service with smiles and no side eye. Thank you I appreciated that. Deboned duck for an extra couple bucks? Oh yes. It's a whole other experience when you don't have to deal with the bones. Rice, gai lan and bun to round it out. Yum. 1/2 duck with sides is about right for 3. On to the ambiance- dark blue walls, dark wood and metal furniture, pretty red Chinese lanterns, and pretty serving ware. Bummer there isn't a patio but you can't have everything. Then we got the bill and I was happy to see that the 'healthy sf' tax wasn't separated out. I find that practice irritating as to me it implies there is something wrong with paying for employee healthcare. I support a healthcare tax the same way I support California gas taxes for transportation and environmental programs. It costs more to do the right thing. At the moment I envy all of those states that are upset about paying $3 a gallon but that's a whole other diatribe.... Finally the restaurant's pay point figures your suggested tip based on the pretax. I think that's the first time I've seen that and thank you! I hope this will start a new trend. In sum... YES.
