Was craving malatang and wanted to try this place out. They don't have as many options but the quality looked fresh! I tried their pork bone broth w/ black garlic + medium spicy. I would say it wasn't spicy at all, which was a little disappointing. The pork bone broth flavor was good though! It's pretty casual but a good malatang place in the area if you're craving it!

Pork broth with black garlic: 5/5 yummy!!! Presence of black garlic is definitely there lol but I love it. No complaints. Hit the spot. Spice level- mild and medium not that spicy Vegetables: very fresh and neatly organized Protein: beef, lamb, fish, calamari Staff: one guy with Nike high tops manning the front. He is so so nice and helpful to all who walk in. Such an easy place to eat at. Simple. Flavorful broth. Clean. Kind workers. And very reasonable price. Paid $40 for two people with a drink and a well balanced bowl.

Spicy dry pot

Stopped by around 8pm on a Sunday for dinner and it was pretty busy. You add meat and other ingredients to your bowl and pay by the pound. We got the spicy dry pot with extra spicy spice level. Even though it was extra spicy we didn't think it was too bad, honestly probably could've gone spicier. Although the dry pot was better, I think the black garlic malatang we got last time is tastier. The owner is super friendly and even remembered us! Overall had a great dinner experience here.

I definitely recommend this place!! It was so good..at least mine was. I liked mine more than my friends. Mine was on the spicer side. They were super nice there and explained how to do things. Cute place!

Their presentation of Malatang is different! Definitely they have lesser selection of ingredients but we had our essentials. The medium level on dry pot was very mild to me. Service was sweet! I wish they had bigger sauce section too.

Stumbled upon this gym while scurrying the streets of SF on a Saturday night. The restaurant is decently large with options for self seating. The food was good, with ok variety. The broth tasted very instant ramen-esque but it is passable. Sauce options are a bit limited as well. But I do want to highlight the amazing staff. The accommodations and customer service surpassed all expectations. They truly made you feel welcomed. Big Mitch

This place is the best! Classic malatang where you go down the line and fill your bowl with what you like then get it weighed and choose a soup base. They have $1 beers with purchase of a bowl. Sauce bar appears sparse at first but has everything that's actually worth having!

Pork broth with Black garlic (mild spice)

Brought my boyfriend to try Malatang for the first time and he enjoyed it! We both got the pork bone broth with black garlic but he chose medium spicy and I chose mild spice. As someone with a relatively low spice tolerance, I felt like I could have gone for at least the medium spice. Both the mild and medium broths felt very mild. I wish they also had more sauce options (like ponzu and chili oil) as well as maybe a beef bone broth option. They had a nice selection of meats, veggies, tofu and seafood balls so I didn't feel like my bowl missed much. The inside is also very clean with helpful/nice staff so I def will be coming back!

Busy spot on a friday night, staff was very friendly! There is plenty of options available - veggies, meats, noodles, seafood - and ingredients were fresh. Pricing is at $15.99/lb, the noodles expand a bit so my ~1lb bowl may seem small but was very filling! Saw many people packing their leftovers. The pork bone broth was not too salty which i appreciated! There is also a sauce bar if wanting to have a dip.

Great malatang spot! I've never seen a pork bone broth with black garlic, but that was interesting to try. Ingredients seemed quite high quality and everything was super clean + modern. Food did take a while to come out (at least 20+ minutes for a table for 2), but it was well worth it. Will be back next time I'm in the Richmond area!

My discovery of this place was a serendipitous one. It quickly became a staple in my rotation of local restaurants in the city! | v i b e | The inside is very spacious and clean. I usually come for lunch and never see the restaurant packed so it might be different during dinner time. The overall vibe is homey, and the service is always very friendly. | f o o d | The self-serve area is always well-stocked and organized. Ingredients are also always fresh! There is a variety to choose from without overwhelming, which I appreciate. BYOB (Build Your Own Bowl!!) Since it's by weight, you choose your own adventure. You can also take your bowl to-go. They'll pack it for you. I see reviews mentioning the limited sauce options, but this actually didn't bother me. The two broths I usually get are pork bone and black garlic pork bone. I didn't end up needing sauce because the broths were flavorful enough. | t l ; d r | No frills, solid malatang in the city. Clean and fresh ingredients and friendly service. Such an underrated place!

I stumbled across this place because I craved malatang! I love that they have a minimum of .5 pounds. I got 0.6 pounds for $11 something and it was so worth it for me because I don't eat much! The pork bone and black garlic soup was so flavorful and rich!! I loved the garlic flavor. The regular pork bone was alright. It did have a lot of oil though which is kind of a pattern in these malatang places. The ingredients were good! They had free tea there which was nice. I usually don't need to add additional sauce at the bar since the soup is already pretty heavy. I would come back but would go to other places for more ingredient variety.

This is a great restaurant to have dinner at . This noodle place has a bar with uncooked food that you can choose what food you want and then the will cook it for you. You can also choose how spicy or mild you want your broth to be. This is a gem of a restaurant. I highly recommend this place. I give them 5 stars

I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). Since I was alone, I got to skip the line and only waited 15 minutes. The ramen was great. I would love to come again and try new one. Their duck chashu is SO GOOD. A little salty but works great as a whole. I respect the kitchen and servers because it's so busy and they are very efficient.

We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

While we initially thought we could finish two galbi jims, our server cautioned us against it, referencing the healthy portion size. We were glad we took her advice because everyone was stuffed by the end of our meal. Their galbi jim was flavorful, with extremely tender beef and chewy rice cakes. We ordered the lowest level of spiciness and while there was still a kick, it was extremely manageable. Once we got seated, they were pretty prompt to give us utensils, napkins, cups, and water. The two of us shared the Braise Beef Galbi Stew. It's more than enough for 2 people to go home in food comas (with some food remaining) and for 3 to be sufficiently full. If you have big eaters, order an app alongside if you have 3 people. The Galbi stew was exceptional. I liked that they had various levels of spiciness. We went with spicy and it had a nice kick that elevated the dish for me. The beef was very tender and flavorful and the veggies and rice cakes soaked up all the juices. And the cheese was so stretchy! I'd actually rank this place slightly above Daeho given the shorter wait, the quality, and the price. I'll be back for sure.
