We enjoyed it so much that we actually came back two days in a row! Thursday was pretty dead, but Friday was packed. Service is alright, you pretty much have to flag someone down whenever you need something. One thing to beware of: I asked to substitute the bland chicken pieces for all shrimp and the peas for all veggies in the sizzling rice soup, and they initially tried to charge me an extra $8 for the substitutions, which I thought was outrageous. She eventually lowered it to $5, which was a little more reasonable, but it still threw me off. Other than that, it's a great place! Service was friendly, quick, and efficient. *** O U R P I C K S *** BEEF ROLL ~ crispy and chewy pancake with a good ratio of meat and vegetables. On the menu, it states that this dish is spicy. I'm pretty sensitive to spicy foods, though I don't recall anything spicy in this, but it was tasty. 4/5 PANDA CUSTARD BUNS ~ the panda faces on the buns were so cute! The texture of the buns was nice and soft, with a lightly sweetened custard filling. Great way to end the meal. 5/5 CURRY CHICKEN TARO PUFF ~ crispy and flaky as expected, with a generous amount of taro filling, but the curry flavor didn't really shine through. They could have easily left out the curry, but these still tasted just like the ones you get at a dim sum restaurant. Every dish was great. We came here in search of good soup and found so much more. Based on the name alone, we had to try a few of their dumplings, and they were very good, although not unlike other dumpling shops I've visited in the past. What really hit home for me was the salted pork chop, and the string beans were the best I've ever had. Even cooked, they were fresh, flavorful, and had a crispness I've never experienced with Asian-style string beans before. The team of young servers were friendly and very efficient. I've ordered takeout/delivery from here and the food was delicious, so we decided to visit them in person for a casual dinner. Lots of seating for all group sizes. The staff is quick and efficient. We didn't wait long at all before food showed up on the table. The menu is huge, and they definitely serve more than just dumplings. We enjoyed all of the dumplings we ordered: xlb, steamed pork and chive, and fried pork baos. Be careful, the fried pork ones are really hot and juicy! We took our first bites and the juice popped everywhere lol. Soup portion was huge to share and enjoy multiple bowls of. Took a rare trip to San Francisco to hit a few businesses. I hit the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory first and then headed out to the avenues to Clement Restaurant to pick up some pastries, Ariscault Bakery, Dim Sum restaurant and grabbed lunch in the avenues at Dumpling King. I went with a friend and his wife. We ate family style and ordered Beef with string beans, chicken with asparagus, chicken chow fun and the restaurant was nice enough to make us a combination fried rice (not on the menu). The beef and chicken were tasty, good flavor and cooked just right fresh vegetables. I liked the fried rice flavor but wasn't used to lettuce in my fried rice which made it more moist than typical. I didn't try the chow fun but my friend and his wife enjoyed it. The service was attentive and the restaurant was willing make dishes not on the menu. If I'm out in the avenues again I will drop in again and try some other dishes too. For very good food, value and service drop in with friends, family or have a solo meal. read more

We visited Dumpling King on 2/17 to celebrate the Lunar New Year and were honestly just grateful they were open. The place was absolutely slammed. The energy felt festive, but be warned: it was very cold inside despite the packed dining room. A few staff members were even wearing parkas, so definitely bring a jacket if you're dining in during the winter. I went with three friends who took the lead on ordering. They give you a laminated menu, and you use a dry-erase pen to make your selections. Overall, the food was fine. We shared BBQ pork bao and several varieties of dumplings, which hit the spot for a celebratory meal. The cucumber salad turned out unexpectedly sweet, but we repurposed the sauce as a dip for our dumplings, which actually worked surprisingly well. The standout for me was the *Wor Wonton Soup*: comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a chilly night. The biggest downside was the pacing. There were long gaps between dishes, and our final three dumpling plates arrived at the same time as the check. With so many "dumpling"-named spots across San Francisco (thanks to that viral article making the rounds), expectations are high. And while this Clement Street location is convenient and lively, I wouldn't call it the best dumpling destination in the city. Menu is extensive and you just mark the items you want and hand the menu back to the wait staff. My favorite item of the night was the zhajiang mian. The noodles tasted as if they were freshly pulled and the noodles had the perfect bite. The sauce was flavorful and perfectly balanced with the freshness of the cucumbers. We tried Dumpling King as it is one of the restaurants open later on Clement St, and were not disappointed. We were with my nieces, who can be quite picky and difficult to please. The pan fried chicken pot stickers were also very good, with the filling having a nice meaty and chivey flavor. We loved the buttery noodles and saucy chicken. The flavors were 10/10. Special call out for the chili oil -- loveeeeeed it. We ordered the Shanghai soup dumplings, Garlic Pea Sprouts, Braised Eggplant (no spicy), and Cumin Lamb (no spicy). The Braised Eggplant was our favorite. It came with wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, yellow and red onions, and green onions. The flavor was really good, sweet, slightly sour, and savory all at the same time. The Cumin Lamb was very tender with a light cumin flavor that didn't overpower the lamb. The Garlic Pea Sprouts were fresh and had a nice wok hei. The Shanghai soup dumplings were our least favorite. Even though they were labeled as soup dumplings, there were only a few drops of soup inside, and the pork filling didn't taste very fresh, so I wouldn't recommend that dish. Customer service was great. One small issue was that our plates kept spinning on the table while we were eating, which was a bit annoying. I explored clement st with my family today, and came across dumpling king. There was no wait, but still a good amount of people! Inside looked very clean. I had trouble with one of their bathroom lights. As for the food, we ordered quite a few dishes. I really did enjoy each dish. The Sichuan spicy fried chicken is delicious, but It could be a bit more spicy! I liked the scallion pancakes because it wasn't oily! Sometimes when you order this at some places, it can be really oily. The xiao long baos and chilli wontons were 10/10! No complaints. My least favorite was the piggy red bean buns. Walked by Dumpling King while we were visiting Green Apple Books. The photos in the windows looked very appetizing and after a quick check on Yelp, we decided to eat lunch here. From the outside, it looked like it might be a hole-in-the-wall, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was very clean inside. The menu was two different laminated pages. We started off with the cucumber salad, which came in a cute dish, and were good. Their Shanghai soup dumplings were perfect - with a thicker wrapper, which I prefer. Chow mein was decent. The pan fried chicken potstickers had kale and corn inside, which I was not expecting - while the presentation was lovely, I should have ordered the pan fried pork buns (the photo of which caught my eye).
