    Pan fried buns

A dumpling restaurant that mixes Hong Kong and Shanghai tastes under one roof. I don't think I've had HK milk tea with XLB until I came to Dumpling Bites, and it worked out. The beef chow fun was a solid option. Both buns were really good. It was too bad their soy milk machine was out of order, I was really hoping to try their salty soy milk (will try again in the future). Overall, this restaurant offered great options and bonus points for being a good option when dining with kids.

Fairly new place in the Sunset. The restaurant is bright and airy with high ceilings and two floors of dining. Numerous angled parking spots on busy Noriega. We had the boiled shrimp and chive dumplings, the salt & pepper fried tofu cubes, dried beef chow fun, and red bean paste pancake for dessert. All were tasty and good. Their ice milk tea is also good and is on special right now! Service is very good with nice polite employees.

I recommend sticking to their dumplings. Their five spice braised beef noodle soup was just okay. I thought the noodle consistency/texture was weird. The broth was on the bland side - may be a different style because it was not the same color at all. We did enjoy their dumplings and potstickers though. I can't say it's better than Dumpling Home or Din Ding but they scratched the XLB itch well. I like how they also offer hong kong style milk tea. I highly recommend asking for less sweet or no additional sweet (not sure if it's an option).

Good food, nice staff. This spot's been on my list for a while since it's well rated and I share the same sentiments. We tried and enjoyed the 10 piece XLBs - v soupy Spicy fish - not too spicy Shrimp and silky egg rice - enjoyed the silky egg Shanghai rice cakes - flavorful, a bit salty bc of the mustard greens Cucumber - enjoyed the fresh garlic. You can add vinegar to adjust the flavors Will def be back. Pay cash for 5% off your bill.

Nice! Chill spot with nice set up and quick service. TBH...expected much more from the XLB. the chow mein was really good though, and they were nice enough to substitute the pork w beef!

Their service was quick and the staff was very nice. We were there on a onday afternoon and it quickly filled up but they were very attentive. XLB was very good - nice and soupy on the inside and the price was a good deal. I would order again. String beans - nicely crunchy and sauteed. It wasn't too salty and I would say that's my second fav next to the XLB. Shanghai noodles - this was okay. It needed more WOK flavor and it could use more salt in this dish. But the noodles was a good consistency. Pork + corn dumplings - this was wasn't bad but it was okay. I guess I was hoping for more flavor inside. The skin was a tad thicker. Too but I would say 3/5 stars. I also had the HK MILK TEA & 5/5. I think it was $3.99 for a good size mug. Overall it was a 4/5 for me.

Ordered catering from Dumpling Bites for ~60 people and was not disappointed! Jason from Dumpling Bites was very communicative, kind, and helpful before and during the time he set up the trays. The event attendees were very happy, complimenting the dumplings and asking where we'd ordered from! We ordered - Pan-Fried Vegetarian Potstickers - Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings - Wonton in Chili Oil - crystal shrimp dumplings - boiled pork and chive dumplings - steamed shrimp and pork shiu mai - steamed bbq pork buns You can't go wrong with any of these! They were fresh, just the right amount of spicy, not too thick of skin, and a good amount of meat and protein in them! Sometimes restaurants scrimp, but Dumpling Bites really filled up those dumplings with filling. Will order from them again, and maybe stop by when I'm in the Sunset!

    amazing food!!!!

We came by for their anniversary deal and it was super sweet! We ordered Shanghai noodles, scallion pancakes, and Mongolian beef over rice. They were very tasty. Parking is pretty hard depending on what time you plan to visit. I had a hard time finding parking and I was circulating the neighborhood.

Sheng jian bao Shanghai rice cakes and and shrimp and chive dumplings. To name a few things we had

We dropped by here seeing the Bouquets to Art in the deYoung. Service was polite and prompt. The restaurant was clean. I enjoyed the Shanghai stir fried rice cakes and Sheng jian bao. The xiaoming long bao was excellent too. Everything we ordered was excellent.

Dried scallop and pork steamed XLB
    Jessica Z.

Yummy food with plenty of options. We started with a glass of the cold sweet soy milk with a Chinese fried dough. The milk was very refreshing and tasted fresh; the donut had a nice crispy and airy inside. The pork with preserved vegetable rice cake felt so homey and had plenty of flavor. It had the right amount of chew and was quite addicting. The Shanghai style steamed pork XLB was actually kind of forgettable, but the Dried scallop and pork steamed XLB stole the show. The flavors of the scallop and pork paired nicely together making a wonderfully flavor-blasted dish. Service was quick and it felt very modern inside. Will definitely be coming back regularly!

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and had a great experience. Every dish we ordered was pretty good, but the XLB (Soup Dumplings) were the highlight. They were loaded with broth and the skins were perfectly cooked. Just a heads up to be careful with that first bite because the soup was really hot, and you definitely don't want to burn your mouth. The space is huge with two floors, and the service was super friendly and fast.

Came with some friends after climbing the Moraga Steps and what a gem this was! They have a special anniversary deal where you ca. get XLB for 50% off! Whaaaa?!!!! We couldn't believe it so we got 30 orders, 10 for each of us, challenge accepted! I have to admit the first XLB I had I was a little disappointed but for the value I was impressed. But the second XLB I added more vinegar/soy sauce and I was sooooooo impressed! 5/5! We also ordered the spicy eggplant and garlic over rice and my friends liked it but I was too focused on the XLB to try it! The waitstaff was nice and patient and explained the deal to us and didn't roll their eyes when we gasped. They followed up to make sure everything was fine. Lastly, the bathroom was nice! Now that's a rarity in lots of restaurants! Can't wait to come back with the fam!

Once they opened the doors we were seated immediately so the strategy paid off. The menu looked incredible across the board so we went in and tried almost everything. We ordered a ton for 2 people and had a lot to bring home. Here's the breakdown: Order these: Squab Liver Skewers: Rich and packed with flavor, a great way to start. I dont even like liver, but this was good! Typhoon Shelter Soft Shell Crab: Really well executed, would order again without hesitation. Salt and Pepper Tiger Prawns: Simple but done perfectly. Singaporean Chili Crab with Fried Milkbread: Delicious but one note here. The bread is a bit much and doesn't add a ton to the dish. This would be even better served over noodles to soak up all that chili crab sauce. HK Black Pepper Steak: So juicy and flavorful. One of the standouts of the night. XO Escargot with Milkbread: Another winner. Beef Chow Fun Noodles: Genuinely the best chow fun I've ever had. Do not skip this one. Mapo Spaghetti with Beef: A fun and unexpected combination that really works. Salt and pepper squid skewers: Packed with protein. Super flavorful! Yuzu Sake: The perfect drink pairing for this menu. Skip these: Chong Qing Fried Hawt Rabbit and Peruvian Chicken Fried Rice were the two misses of the night. Save your stomach space for everything else. The flavors here are exceptional and the service matched it perfectly. Will absolutely be back and already trying to figure out how to snag a reservation next time!

The Guilin noodle soup was packed with flavor and quickly became my favorite dish here. I especially loved the pickled vegetables, they complemented the broth so well. Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs糖醋小排 - this is a love hate for me, I actually love the seasoning and the sauce, but the spare ribs are impossible to eat!! It was so overcooked, hard and dark like charcoal, I feel like I was chewing rubber or something. It was not a cheap order either, and we had to throw it out after only a few bites and ordered something else for dinner. Maybe it was an off day? I don't know but given how bad it was we most likely won't be giving it another try.

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.

A really busy place so be prepared to wait for your table, Sometimes they have to cut off the line at night so they can close off their business, so don't cut it close! Recommendations to order: Yin Yan (M2) - a Hong Kong special of milk tea mixed with coffee. Nothing get more HKish than this. Wonton Noodles (E1) - this is Cantonese style wonton, with really thin wrappers, along with thin egg noodles that has a firm and toothsome texture. Curry Beef with Rice (G12) - Just like back in Hong Kong! The beef tendon in there is so melty good! You can order the curry beef with noodles too but rice is better to soak up all the curry sauce. Hokkien Fried Rice (G10) - a luscious gravy on top of a fried rice filled with seafood and meat. You'll lick the bowl clean Rice Rolls (B) - their rice rolls are pretty solid too, smooth and slurpy. Just do yourself a flavor, don't order the Xiao Lung Bao Soup Dumplings here. It's not Cantonese, and there are definitely better places to get them. I remember this was one of the first restaurants I visited when I first landed in San Francisco in 2024, so it brings back good memories. Here are my thoughts on everything I tried: Green onion pancakes: The best dish! No meat, just crispy pan-fried pancakes, but they're incredibly addictive. Beef brisket & beef tendon noodle soup: The broth was comforting. Honestly, the broth was everything for me. Beef brisket over noodles: A pass. It was too oily and felt heavy. BBQ pork: Yes! One of my favorites. So delicious. Seafood XO sauce stir-fried vermicelli: It needed more seasoning. We ended up adding soy sauce, which helped. Shanghai soup dumplings: Unfortunately, no. They were overcooked, and the soup leaked out as soon as I picked one up with my chopsticks (fyi, I know how to use chopsticks. I also know how to eat xiao long bao). Pork & chive dumplings: To be honest, they seem to always overcook their dumplings (I visited a few times and they always overcooked it). Maybe it's because they're always busy? Even so, the filling still tasted okay. Stir-fried baby bok choy with garlic sauce: It was okay. Nothing special, but a nice vegetable dish to balance out the meal. Overall, the food was definitely hit or miss. Some dishes were excellent, while others could use some improvement. However it's always busy and has a waitlist. That said, this restaurant has always been, and will continue to be popular because of its legacy. And I'll definitely come back for the memories.
