This is that quintessential neighborhood Chinese joint, the kind of place where you can basically order anything and they have it. The food is consistently solid, if sometimes just a tiny bit oily or heavy (though some might find that a plus, lol.) Seating is better than you'd expect from street level - stairs lead to a spacious upstairs seating area with large tables and big windows letting in a lot of natural light. We've eaten here twice in the last two months, and this review is based on both visits. The hot food dishes are excellent and portions are generous. We particularly liked the dry cooked beef chow fun, salt and pepper fried chicken, and their honey walnut prawns, as well as their soup with beef and cilantro. We also tried a number of different dumplings as this is literally in their name, and were generally very happy with everything we tried. The steamed bbq pork buns are solid and done right. Service was attentive and overall this is a great place. While this isn't like the very best Chinese food in SF - for what this place is, your go-to local Chinese joint - it's great. We will definitely be back.
Back when New Hing Lung used to call this place home, I had some rather mixed feelings about it. The first few times I ate there were decent, followed by a really poor experience, and ending with a mildly positive one. So, after seeing that Dumpling Bites had taken over this long vacant space, I was cautiously optimistic - excited because it's always awesome to see another dumpling spot open up, but skeptical since they never seemed all that busy the few times I passed by after their grand opening. However, after hearing some of my relatives rave about this place after they came here during the holidays, we knew we had to come here to check this place out for ourselves! Although the interior of this place doesn't look all that different from its predecessor, nearly everything about Dumpling Bites feels like an improvement. Not only does everything feel cleaner, but the workers are so much nicer and the menu feels vastly improve. Granted, New Hing Lung had a couple of dishes we enjoyed, but it's nice to see so many varieties of dumplings, baos, and buns to choose from, as well as a variety of entrees, noodle dishes, noodle soups, and rice plates, in the event you're looking for something a bit heftier to eat. -- XIAO LONG BAO These were awesome! Each dumpling was decently plump with a rich soup in them and I loved how the fillings were so porky. Definitely one of the best I've had in a long time. -- STEAMED PORK & NAPA CABBAGE DUMPLINGS Ehh...this was fine. In hindsight, we probably should've got a dumpling dish that was pan-fried, if only for a textural change, but I had a bigger issue with the filling. While the skin was fine, the filling had a lot more cabbage than pork and wasn't super juicy. -- BROCCOLI BEEF RICE PLATE Nothing spectacular, but no less solid. The portion was just okay for the money, but the broccoli was surprisingly fresh and the cuts of beef were actually quite tender. I just wish there had been more meat in the dish. -- SALT & PEPPER FISH FILLETS It's not hard to love fried fish, but whatever - I LOVED this dish! The pieces of fish were super crispy, moist on the inside, and I love how they weren't overly salted/seasoned. So good! -- PORK & SHRIMP SHUMAI This was just okay. I liked that each shumai was decently meaty and there was a fair amount of shrimp and pork in this. However, for whatever reason, the shumai didn't feel all that hefty either, for better or worse. -- DRY FRIED CHICKEN WINGS Not nearly as good as the ones at San Tung (true for most out there), but this was still pretty good. The batter on the wings wasn't too heavy and the chicken was really moist. Plus, I like that the sauce wasn't too sweet or spicy. -- SHANGHAI STYLE PAN FRIED PORK BUNS This was great! The buns had a lightly browned crust, but, more importantly, the bun had just the right thickness (not too bready nor too light) and there was a fair amount of soup in these as well. -- DRY FRIED BEEF CHOW FUN This is one of the measuring stick dishes my family often gets and it didn't disappoint. While we certainly wouldn't have minded a larger portion, the noodles had a nice bite to them and the dish, as a whole, wasn't as greasy as others we've come across. -- FIVE SPICE BEEF BRISKET NOODLE SOUP with Choice of Noodles (Thin Rice Noodles) Admittedly, this just looked okay but the brisket wasn't anywhere near as tough as I thought it was going to be. The ratio of meat and veggies to noodles was awesome too, but I wish they had fresh or hand/knife cut noodle options. -- POTSTICKERS I wasn't necessarily expecting much, but this was still better than I thought it would be. While I wish it had a harder crust on the bottom, the filling was delicious and I liked how relatively plump each piece was. As you could probably tell, across several dishes we've tried, one thing that we noticed was that the portions felt a little light. Not in the sense of it being overpriced, as the prices felt proportionate to what you get, but we certainly wouldn't have minded more to share. Granted, you could also argue that it means you have more space to try more, but I don't want to have to get two plates of the salt and pepper fish fillets either! All in all, between how much we've enjoyed the majority of what we've tried, the friendly workers, and the fact that this place is so convenient to get to, Dumpling Bites has quickly worked its way into our rotation of regular spots, whether it be for larger family get togethers or just a casual spot for a quick and easy meal! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.
The xiao long bao were huge! I was so impressed with the amount of broth inside too. The other dumplings we ordered were delicious and the food all came out extremely fast. Come hungry for dumplings and you won't be disappointed.
Great service, great food! We came in a large group and they were happy to accommodate us. They provided us with enough attention without being overbearing. The food was all super delicious and very authentic. There is even a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge from the window. We'll definitely be back for more next time we're in this area!
We came here for my brother's birthday cause it was close and always seemed to walk by it but never tried it. We were seated pretty promptly at 6:30pm on a Friday night. Our server was friendly and nice. We ordered about 5 dishes. Dried Fried chicken Wings - $18.99 - It had a spicy sauce, the wings were not as fried or crunchy as I expected. It was soft texture instead. Pork Xiao Long Bao - $15.99 - Pretty normal, was piping hot when got to table. Seasonal Garlic Pea Sprouts - $21.99 - Had a few sprouts that were thought but overall flavor was good. Rice Roll - We told them to take out the preserved vegetables. It tasted okay. It has a soft and crunchy texture. Shanghai Stir Fried Rice Cakes - $16.99 - Normal dish was seasoned well. It tasted good. The decor was pretty modern and clean.
A dumpling restaurant that mixes Hong Kong and Shanghai tastes under one roof. I don't think I've had HK milk tea with XLB until I came to Dumpling Bites, and it worked out. The beef chow fun was a solid option. Both buns were really good. It was too bad their soy milk machine was out of order, I was really hoping to try their salty soy milk (will try again in the future). Overall, this restaurant offered great options and bonus points for being a good option when dining with kids.
Fairly new place in the Sunset. The restaurant is bright and airy with high ceilings and two floors of dining. Numerous angled parking spots on busy Noriega. We had the boiled shrimp and chive dumplings, the salt & pepper fried tofu cubes, dried beef chow fun, and red bean paste pancake for dessert. All were tasty and good. Their ice milk tea is also good and is on special right now! Service is very good with nice polite employees.
I recommend sticking to their dumplings. Their five spice braised beef noodle soup was just okay. I thought the noodle consistency/texture was weird. The broth was on the bland side - may be a different style because it was not the same color at all. We did enjoy their dumplings and potstickers though. I can't say it's better than Dumpling Home or Din Ding but they scratched the XLB itch well. I like how they also offer hong kong style milk tea. I highly recommend asking for less sweet or no additional sweet (not sure if it's an option).
Good food, nice staff. This spot's been on my list for a while since it's well rated and I share the same sentiments. We tried and enjoyed the 10 piece XLBs - v soupy Spicy fish - not too spicy Shrimp and silky egg rice - enjoyed the silky egg Shanghai rice cakes - flavorful, a bit salty bc of the mustard greens Cucumber - enjoyed the fresh garlic. You can add vinegar to adjust the flavors Will def be back. Pay cash for 5% off your bill.
Ordered catering from Dumpling Bites for ~60 people and was not disappointed! Jason from Dumpling Bites was very communicative, kind, and helpful before and during the time he set up the trays. The event attendees were very happy, complimenting the dumplings and asking where we'd ordered from! We ordered - Pan-Fried Vegetarian Potstickers - Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings - Wonton in Chili Oil - crystal shrimp dumplings - boiled pork and chive dumplings - steamed shrimp and pork shiu mai - steamed bbq pork buns You can't go wrong with any of these! They were fresh, just the right amount of spicy, not too thick of skin, and a good amount of meat and protein in them! Sometimes restaurants scrimp, but Dumpling Bites really filled up those dumplings with filling. Will order from them again, and maybe stop by when I'm in the Sunset!
Nice! Chill spot with nice set up and quick service. TBH...expected much more from the XLB. the chow mein was really good though, and they were nice enough to substitute the pork w beef!
Their service was quick and the staff was very nice. We were there on a onday afternoon and it quickly filled up but they were very attentive. XLB was very good - nice and soupy on the inside and the price was a good deal. I would order again. String beans - nicely crunchy and sauteed. It wasn't too salty and I would say that's my second fav next to the XLB. Shanghai noodles - this was okay. It needed more WOK flavor and it could use more salt in this dish. But the noodles was a good consistency. Pork + corn dumplings - this was wasn't bad but it was okay. I guess I was hoping for more flavor inside. The skin was a tad thicker. Too but I would say 3/5 stars. I also had the HK MILK TEA & 5/5. I think it was $3.99 for a good size mug. Overall it was a 4/5 for me.
We came by for their anniversary deal and it was super sweet! We ordered Shanghai noodles, scallion pancakes, and Mongolian beef over rice. They were very tasty. Parking is pretty hard depending on what time you plan to visit. I had a hard time finding parking and I was circulating the neighborhood.

Lovely XLB spot in Sunset that i'm happy to say stands out a little bit above the others. We noticed a lot of tables during Sunday lunch so write your name down on the waitlist as soon as you can. All our food came out on time. The rundown: 1. Pork + Pork&Crab XLB: One of the most juiciest ever. Get it if you're a fan of lots of soup. It could be more flavorful but I was impressed by how the skins did not break even once. 2. Shredded Chicken + Pork Belly: Nice chilled appetizer. Heavy on the green onions and garlic. I loved this, it's addicting! 3. Green Beans: Crispy and not drowned with sauce. Truly was "dry-fried." 4. Dry fried chicken wings: Speaking of sauce, this one was kinda drowning in it and was a bit salty for my taste. But crispy! 5. Shanghai Rice Cakes: Absolutely yummy. Every table had this dish. 6. Sticky rice roll: delicious but they need to wrap this tighter haha. 7. Big downside was the dumplings. I have had them twice now and their skins are too soft and delicate and come with holes. Don't recommend. Pretty solid spot for dumplings in the Sunset area. Aside from the dumplings I would bring my friends here. Will be back! read more
Staff was so so friendly! Plenty of street parking, but if you go on a weekend it can get tough in the sunset district! The restaurant has a very chill and open vibe. Definitely not DTF or any of the more popular dumpling spots, but it hits! Beef noodle soup and the pan friend white dumpling buns were my fave :) ate it so fast i forgot to snap a pic! Had a great dinner here. I love their menu and service was on point. We enjoyed pretty much everything. Sheng jian bao were good, wontons had an interesting and tasty filling but I wanted more flavor from the chili oil. House special rolls are unique and worth trying. Highlights- XLB - these are really delicious. Piping hot, full of gelatinous soup, soft and savory filling.. really good Dry fried string beans - beans are nice and crispy crunchy, good flavor and not overly salty Would not order again- Cucumber salad - marinade is too light, pieces of cucumber are too big, so not enough flavor. We visited on a Sunday afternoon with a group of eight and no reservation, and were seated right away. Granted, it was during OSL weekend, but I appreciated that they opened their upstairs section to accommodate our large party. The food was solid and even exceeded my expectations. Nothing was overly greasy or oily. I really enjoyed this spot and would definitely return. A great option for larger groups. read more

Came here looking for a big bowl of sweet soy milk and Chinese donuts. ..... wasnt what I was expecting but everything else was spectacular! My boyfriend and I came around 2pm -- there were only a handful of guests left We got seated quickly and got the abalone and pork XLB, the spicy pig ears, wontons in chili oil, the Shanghai pan fried buns, the fried Chinese donut, and sweet soy milk. The sweet soy milk comes in a cup. When asked to put in the bowl, there were able to, but it was a bit lukewarm. Sad. The Chinese fried donut was soo good -- crispy and fluffy. I could not stop eating it. The XLB skin was so thin and the soup inside was delicious and flavorful. I think I can just get this and be satisfied. The pan fried buns were also good -- although it could be a tad more pan fried. There is not broth that comes out, like other places, but the meat is tender and juicy. The spicy pig ears were average, but ive been wanting them for awhile, so it satisfied a craving. And the wonton in chili oil was bombbb. they came hot and the sauce/broth it was sitting in was so delicious. Since I had asked for the sweet soy milk thats usually in a cup to be put in a bowl, the waiter had asked me if wanted to try the savory soy milk that comes in a bowl. I ordered it, and it was not my cup of tea. my boyfriend kind of liked it... it has a fermented mustard-green type taste, with a little bit of chili oil and bits of tofu flying around. I've been wanting to come here for the longest time, since they're one of the few restaurants in SF that sell fantuan (sticky rice roll), but the one time I tried, they were really busy, and my schedule was inflexible, so I couldn't dine in. Finally, I got around to it! I ordered a fantuan as a starter and the Mongolian beef with rice dish. The fantuan was good as expected and satisfied the craving. The Mongolian beef entrée was quite tasty with very tender beef, and the portion was generous, so it was a great value. I really liked the food and atmosphere here and look forward to coming back. read more

Tonight our family first time went to this place. We had 8 people to have dinner with amazed experiences with fully tummy. We ordered Xiao Long Bao, my bf said that there Xiao Long Bao is the best one in Bay Area. I loved the Pan Fried Pork Buns, it was huge size with 6 pieces, it tasted very fluffy with the bread and very fresh with the filling meat. Also, we ordered eggplants, seasonal pea sprouts. It tasted less greasy, pretty healthy. Wonton noodle soup: they wonton wrap tasted like in house made, we liked it. In additional, beef brisket noodle soup, pork with preserved vegetables noodles soup, rice cakes, savory soy milk, sweet soy milk, hot milk tea and cold lemon tea. At the end, we order the red bean pasty pancakes - the texture not too thick and not too thin. Their service was excellent as well. Next time we planned to invite another family to join us. However, the elders worried to get a bigger table need to walk upstairs, the waiters over heard and told us they could do some arrangement to setup a big table on the ground floor when we called ahead of time. read more
New Shanghainese restaurant in the Sunset! They definitely give a modern feel with the newly renovated setup. I came in on Thanksgiving and got seated immediately. My group of 4 ordered: Shanghai-Style Steamed Pork Xiao Long Bao (3/5) - Potentially the thinnest skinned XLB I've ever had and there was a good amount of soup/meat but the main thing was the flavor was lacking. Shanghai-Style Pan-Fried Pork Buns (3/5) - This was alright but nothing stood out to me like could be pan-fried more & have more flavor. Shanghai-Style Chow Mein (3/5) - A lot of veggies but not many noodles & the noodles were very choppy like small pieces everywhere. The flavor was good though. Boiled Pork & Sweet Corn Dumplings (3/5) - It was ok. This place has good prices but not sure I'd come back because of the lack of flavor. You could love this place if you're looking for a clean Shanghai taste though! Overall, just ok for me. read more
We come here way too often, but we just can't help it. There's nothing like enjoying a warm, cozy meal in the foggy Sunset. Every time, the food is phenomenal and perfect for sharing with a big group. The service is fast and friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the portions offer great value. read more
My new go to neighborhood dumpling spot. Ordered the crab and pork XLB, eggplant with garlic sauce over rice and deep fried salt and pepper squid. For a party of two this was a good amount of food. I love how you can order a dish over rice so you get best of both worlds (carbs and a veggie). Deep fried salt and pepper squid was super crunchy and had just the right amount of salt and pepper. XLB juicy and soup inside the dumpling was flavorful. The skin was thin and steamed to the right temperature. I also got the soy milk and asked for no sugar. 10/10!!! read more
Our dumplings came lukewarm, which was a huge disappointment because I prefer my food on the hotter side. Some of the soup in my dumpling dropped on my plate and it immediately turned into gelatin, so it wasn't anywhere near hot. We also got wonton soup, cucumber salad, hot and sour soup and pan fried bao (I don't remember the exact name). The pan fried bao was also okay.. something was just off about it and it didn't taste that great to me. The wonton soup was pretty good though. My favorite dish was the hot and sour soup. It came out popping hot and was very flavorful. It had a good balance of spicy and sour. I don't think I would come back here again because the food wasn't good for me. The place had a nice modern feel to it, but that is the only positive thing I can say about the place. There is no parking lot, but a block or two away there is free parking. read more
Dumpling Bites is one of my new favorite dumpling spots in the sunset/even in SF! It's pretty affordable and the dumplings are made really well. I especially like their XLB/soup dumplings and SJB/pan fried baos. The XLBs have a super thin skin and are so satisfying to eat with the soup inside! (Just make sure to let them cool off first lol). Can't wait to come with more people so we can order more! read more
I've walked by this new dumpling spot for weeks and finally decided to give it a try! It's newly remodeled so everything is brand new and so modern in there! The food was great and fresh and the workers were nice and quick! We ordered XLB, black bean noodles, crab and pork XLB, the pan fried buns along with their walnut shrimp and wonton noodle (not pictured)! We also got their sweet and savory soy milk! Everything was so good and not overly sweet for the soy milk! I didn't have the wonton noodle but my friend mentioned that it was a tad bit too salty! Honestly just a basic dumpling spot with typical dishes. They're selling a seasonal plate of 4 pumpkin black sesame buns for $8.99 -- these are a sweet dessert, with zero pumpkin flavor. Don't be fooled, unless you like black sesame anything. Their best dish is the salt and pepper fish fillet $16.99 and their skip is a toss up between the sichuan noodle in peanut sauce $13.99, which had absolutely no peanut taste at all and was all sesame paste or the potstickers $11.99 that are worst than the ones I have in my freezer from Costco. I was also not too impressed with the pan fried Shanghai pork buns. Mine lacked juicy soup. The XLBs were also pretty basic. There are 2 young folks working this entire restaurant that has 2 floors so the service was not very attentive. They're also trying to manage phone calls with takeout orders on top of 30 tables so it was hectic for them. Total bill was $98.78 and I was still hungry for more food. Located along Noriega, there's usually plenty of parking, though it is mainly residential parking. Dumpling Bites offers Shanghainese food in the Sunset, and boasts a large variety. Overall, I would recommend for dinner if you're in the area but not a destination spot. We ordered the Xiao Long Bao, Sauteed String Bean, Mapo Tofu, Wonton in Chili Oil, Shanghai-Style Chow Mein, and Pan Fried Pork Bun. They were all decent, hitting all the right flavor notes but nothing unique or outstanding, but the one I was interested in the most (the sheng jian bao) was a bit of a let down. . Pan Fried Pork Bun: (3/5) Decent crispy bottom but not enough soup inside, and the breading was soggy as it was steamed a little too long. I think Dumpling Home does it better. read more
Came here for a quick lunch with the wife. We shared the Shanghai steamed soup dumplings and the wonton noodle soup. Both were SO delicious and we were stuffed by the time we were done eating. There were a few open tables and we were able to get seated quickly. Service was fast, workers were nice, and the place was clean. Safe to say we'll be adding this restaurant to our list of go-to dumpling places! We'll definitely come back here again. read more

One of my go to places when I'm in the area. This is a great place for my xiao long baos which is delicious and not over priced. 4 people for $100 at dinner time including tip is such a good deal! We got a rice plate, string beans, honey walnut shrimp, xiaolong bao and chili wonton which was enough for 4 of us. The place is great for small or big hang outs. So far every time we came around dinner time we haven't had to wait more than 5 mins for a table. Happy accidents with always catching another table leaving. :) still think about the xiao long baos to this day! read more

Dare I say Dumpling Home dupe? *Dumpling Home minus the outrageous wait, and in the lovely still fog of the Sunset neighborhood! We tried the shengjian bao (which reached the threshold of bouncy QQ, and bursting with soup), har gow and soup dumplings (solid), dry fried wings (wasn't expecting that to be here; perfect combo of Santung & Korean fried chicken style - sweet and sticky), cucumber salad (homey, refreshing, crisp), and five spice beef brisket noodle soup (insane pairing with the cold weather). 4.5/5 Dropped in for lunch ~1pm on Thursday. Aside from a couple tables, the place wasn't packed so we got seated quickly. What we ordered: - Spicy Thinly Sliced Pig Ear ~ Not as oily as other places have it, which was a plus! A great appetizer to start the table off. - Shanghai-style stir-fried Rice Cakes ~ Very homestyle. A little on the oily side. This dish needed chili oil which was provided at the table to help with flavor. - Abalone and pork steamed xiao long bao ~ This was the star of the show! A lot of soup dumplings are heavy and oily, but the broth of this one was lighter compared to others. Without the vinegar, the broth was refreshing and you can taste the sweetness of the abalone. I like my vinegar tart, but the vinegar provided here was on the lighter side. Dumplings weren't as heavy so it did not need the tartness of the vinegar to balance it out, therefore a lighter vinegar made sense. All in all, Pretty decent. We came to Dumpling Bites for a very late lunch on a Sunday afternoon and there were plenty of tables available. This restaurant is located on Noriega and 23rd in SF's Sunset District. The restaurant was clean with very high ceilings (there's a second floor). We ordered the pork xiao long bao ($13.99), crab and pork xiao long bao ($15.99), Shanghai rice cakes ($13.99), salt and pepper chicken wings ($16.99). The salt and pepper chicken wings were really tasty! The pork xiao long bao had 10 pieces and were really good. The crab and pork xlbs were pretty good too, but I couldn't taste much of the crab flavor so it might be better to just get the pork xlbs. The Shanghai rice cakes were perfect! The rice cakes had the right amount of chewiness and the cabbage and sliced pork were great. The vegetable dumplings were okay. Not the vegetarian's favorite. The waitress let us know that they were running a summer promotion - if you order over $50 worth of food, you can select a scratch card. We scratched a free drink and ordered the savory soy milk. The savory soy milk was just okay...I've definitely had much better, however, not many places sell this, so the fact that they sell it is pretty good. Our server was very nice, however, sometimes not very attentive to our table. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Dumpling Bites, especially the pork xiao long bao, salt and pepper chicken wings, and Shanghai rice cakes. read more

We ordered: - Shanghai-Style Steamed Pork Xiao Long Bao - Shanghai-Style Stir-Fried Rice Cake - Wonton Noodle Soup - Eggplant with Garlic Sauce The food came out quickly, and the portions were generous. All of the stir-fried entrees had that wok flavor if you know what I mean. The wonton soup was comforting, and the XLBs were juicy and savory. I had no favorite entree because they were all so yummy. I'd ordered all of the dishes again. It was a scrumptious meal with great customer service. Great food in the sunset!! Must get the pea shoots because they're cooked perfectly with whole garlic cloves. They also have so many variations of soup dumplings and we decided to go with the abalone ones (never seen this before) and the flavor was good but was chewier than I would've liked. Good service. Okay ambiance, they kept the restaurant pretty cold in temp, almost all the customers kept their jackets on. Would come back to try more dumplings. read more
