I went in with minimal expectations thinking it would be more of a tourist trap given its location, but was pleasantly surprised! The decor is more upscale than the surrounding Fisherman's Wharf and the food was quite good! Mixed Grill: All the seafood tasted great especially the shrimp. Cioppino: Great full and seafood flavors. They do the classic well. Kids fish and chips: Quite a hearty portion for kids. Overall, a great restaurant for celebrations or those looking for a slightly more upscale seafood experience. Pro tip: The receipt gets you 15% to Biscoff cafe, so grab a Biscoff latte after your meal! read more

Garlic Roasted Whole Dungeness Crab is the thing to get at Fog Harbor Fish House; reasonably priced at $58, each meaty, garlicky piece was so good dipped in clarified butter. My bf ended up sharing his order with me because I didn't enjoy my Cioppino ($42.) The seafood was bland, all tasting very much alike, & the broth didn't give off that complex spicy tang that my favorite cioppinos possess. My table started with an appetizer of Red Chili Garlic Shrimp ($18) -- from the description, we were expecting a dry, possibly sautéed preparation & were disappointed that the shrimp were sitting in a watery broth. Though I was letdown by my picks here, I know my group enjoyed theirs. We were treated very well by our waiter & by the host who gave us a beautiful window seat; we enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the bay. I stopped by on a Sunday for lunch. I had reservation. So I got a seat right away. View from the restaurant was good. All seafood tasted fresh. Cioppino was flavorful with a lot of seafood. Fish and chips was crisp and tasty. I went for a clam chowder with crab in a bread bowl. Soup was good, but the breadbowl absorbed most of the soup, so there was very little liquid left. I went to this restaurant with some friends and thought it was really nice. Our friends were from out of town and they thoroughly enjoyed the views while we ate our lunch. Aside from that, the menu has plenty of options. I tried the clam chowder which doesn't have bacon (which I don't eat). Lastly our server was great and very attentive. While visiting San Francisco... Fog Harbor was the perfect spot to grab a quick lunch once we landed before heading to Napa. My first time in San Francisco and I loved it. The weather could've been a bit warmer but still nice enough to walk around. They were pretty busy when we walked in, but there were plenty of bar seats available. We had a nice bartender who talked to us about everything from tequila to weather. We ordered the Fried Scallop Appetizer which was just ok since we thought the scallops were a bit chewy. The clam chowder was also just ok but we probably compared it to Boston's best. We still enjoyed our time here, tired from our early flight, but the views were the best. read more

We came here about 3 Mother's Day ago and my mom was in love with their food so per the Queens request, here we are again this year. There was a dish that we were looking forward to this year that unfortunately they took off the menu, but the seafood platter was approx the same so we got that! We chose this place after hearing so many great reviews, especially about the clam chowder, so our expectations were very high. Unfortunately, the chowder didn't quite live up to the hype during our visit. It was quite thick, heavy on potatoes, and lacked the depth of flavor we were hoping for. We both ordered bowls with crab, and for the price--around $40 for two bowls--it didn't feel quite worth it. That said, the scallop risotto was outstanding. The scallops were incredibly fresh, juicy, and possibly some of the best we've had. We would absolutely recommend trying that dish alone--it was the highlight of our meal. Overall, while the clam chowder didn't meet expectations this time, the scallop risotto was exceptional and worth coming back for. Loved this spot. Was pleased with the freshness of the oysters. The location was great and the food was good. Being someone who travels I am a bit of a clam chowder snob and I eat a ton of New England clam chowder. The Fog Harbor version had large pieces of potato that wasn't very soft. It was also very runny which I was surprised by. The bread bowl did melt into the soup and absorbed a lot of the liquid feeling, but it was still just not my favorite. We also ordered the fish n chips which were great. Nice fresh fish and a good crust on it, could have used a touch more seasoning for us. The fries were ok but nothing spectacular. The tiramisu was really good. Although the portion was significantly smaller than the massive hunk on the dessert platter (sold us on it for sure!) The atmosphere can't be beat. I do feel like the server could have attempted to accommodate our request (or at least made us feel like they tried to ask for us...). I asked for a single crab cake as an add on to our meal. Visited Fog Harbor Fish House during my last SF business trip as work ended early for the day. This spot gets quite busy for dinner so late afternoon was perfect as I was able to get seated immediately and no big crowd. So glad I did as the weather was so nice, warm and sunny! There is ample parking right at Pier 39 with the parking garage right across the street. First hour parking is also free as the restaurant validates 1 hour parking so that is a big plus! Plenty of dining tables and I requested to be seated by the window. Sweet bay view with the sun blazing! Started with a glass of Pinot Noir and it was sooo good to help relax! For appetizer, ordered a bowl of clam chowder with crab that was amazingly delicious!! For the main dish, got the grilled salmon filet over quinoa, dried cranberries, tomato relish, lemon vinaigrette, blurred blanc, and crispy onions. It was awesome!!! The staff were very courteous and attentive checking in often and quick with the additional requests. Great experience overall! Will for sure visit again. read more

I can't believe I'm writing a glowing review for a Pier 39 restaurant, but here I am. I say this with all love, as I've been visiting this attraction nearly 50 years, but 5-star food is not the foundation of Pier 39's reputation. Nevermind that seafood is so easy to miss on -- it has to be (a) as fresh as possible and (b) skillfully prepared. For this reason I don't dine out much for seafood, I'd rather control the variables myself and eat it at home. And when I'm at Pier 39, I indulge in carnival food - I don't aim for top-notch seafood, not anywhere at the wharf, TBH. However, it's hard to spend a day seaside and not get a craving for fish, so Fog Harbor it was, and I'm so glad we chose it. My daughter and I planned to go with fish for both our appetizer and our main, but FH has a special crab menu right now, so we started instead with crab ceviche, and chose miso glazed salmon for our main. Before either of our dishes came out, our lovely server Triana brought us warm sourdough bread that was fresher and better than what we'd eaten earlier in the day down the street (hint, it starts with a B). I also appreciate that they didn't bring us *too much* bread. Lesson here: do it right, and leave people wanting more. The crab ceviche starter was INCREDIBLE. Eye-rollingly delicious, truly. I wanted another plate of it as soon as we finished it, but just then our salmon arrived. The main course also did not disappoint, it was an impeccably cooked salmon with the most delicious glaze. All the accompanying vegetables and rice were perfectly prepared and seasoned. Special shout out to the kitchen for the bok choy prep! Many restaurants leave the bulbs whole or halved for plate appeal, but I'd much rather they chop it up, not just to save me the work of it, but smaller pieces take on more flavor, and the flavor of this miso-based dish was super delish. Fog Harbor nailed everything so well, even beyond the food. The restaurant's ambiance is invitingly warm and casual while still offering a fine dining experience. The views from the windows are stunning, and the varied lighting and well-thought out acoustics are spot on. It's so great when a restaurant sounds lively but not noisy, and when lighting is bright enough to see faces and food, but low enough to feel cozy and intimate. This is especially important for dinner in a restaurant like Fog Harbor, where looking out and appreciating the lights of the City and the moon's reflections on the Bay are all part of the experience of dining here. Finally, a huge compliment to our wait staff Triana -- what a joy she was to have serving us. Super professional, she knew all about our food, it's preparation and freshness, and she was also a blast to chat with, I really hope she's our server the next time we visit! read more

I really didnt think this place was going to be good considering it is on the pier because of the touristy stuff but WAS DEFINITELY WRONG! The garlic bread was really good and soft which makes you have like 6 rolls of it. I had the scallop and crab risotto which was really really good. This was such a five star experience and our server Million was incredible. We came in for our anniversary and had a spended time. We were recommended here by a friend and glad we came by! Did our reservations on Yelp and it worked perfectly. We walked in and it was a very beautiful restaurant and we were lucky enough to have a window seat! Now to the food, I have celiac disease so gluten free is a must. They have many amazing options and I didn't feel sick after. My partner and I split the clam chowder. It was delicious. After touring Alcatraz, my friends and I stopped at this seafood restaurant in Fisherman's Wharf, and I definitely see why it's considered one of the best in the area. The seafood was incredibly fresh--the clam chowder was amazing, and the fish and chips were some of the best I've ever had. I especially loved their mixed grill platter with shrimp skewers and various fresh fish. The meals were very filling and the staff was friendly and attentive. We were seated right away, which was great. My only wish is that we'd gotten a table with an ocean view, as the waterfront setting would have really added to the experience. Shrimp Brochette had 10 large shrimp on 2 skewers- seasoned and grilled to perfection served with mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked green beans. So why my only 4 stars? Because the service was almost completely terrible. It was the beginning of dinner service about 5:45 so they weren't completely even full yet. There were 2 waitresses taking care of us and if it hadn't been for the second one coming along partway through our dinner we may have walked out. For starters I had the SF Sourdough Clam Chowder. It was excellent. The clams were fresh and the sourdough bread was soft. It was a very tasty dish. I could've ate the whole bowl of sourdough. My entrée was the muscle fries with cream sauce. It was excellent. The muscles were super fresh. They tasted like they just came out of the ocean. The cream sauce they put on the fries is very good. After previewing the menu, it had great options & after the first glance of the inside of the restaurant, it looked clean & inviting. On the other hand, the female hostess who greeted us with a "how can I help you?" gave off a very judgey feeling to me & my mother-in-law as to why we were even there. Located on Pier 39 overlooking the water, this is definitely more a tourist restaurant. Prices do reflect its location - definitely on the pricier end. If I wasn't looking to have dinner on the water, I think I would choose to go somewhere a bit cheaper. The food is good, but not necessarily THAT good. Service is average.
