We love coming here when we are in the city! It is nestled in a touristy location on busy Pier 3 but we always have a good experience. It's great for large groups, as they usually accommodate and you have to wait a short time since they don't take reservations online for large groups. They have okay kid option meals - although I do with that they came with veggies too. Main meal like chicken, salmon or pasta only come with fries. I definitely recommend getting a seafood dish since that's what they are known for. The surf and turf, the tuna (spicy), the risotto or the prawns are great dishes. If you're feeling adventurous, I'd go for the dungenous crab which is local to the area. However just be warned that it does NOT arrive cooked, but you have to do the work to get the meat out. That's an experience!!! I definitely will get the lobster next time that's already cooked. Service is pretty good as well - they are attentive, friendly and interact and check up on you. That's always a green flag. Make sure to leave room for dessert! FYI They are actually pretty clever and show you the desserts made in front of you already. And then you can see and choose and they bring it out to you fresh. We loved the apple pie and the tiramisu. They are a bit on the sweeter side but definitely a good conclusion to a nice meal. So a tip is if you don't want dessert don't even look at it because trust me you will want some after seeing them in person!! Overall I'd give it a 4 this place is great for families and kids as well as large groups. It's a lovely ambiance. The food is not the best but decent (hence -1 star) but overall it's worth coming here for a nice meal. And plus afterwards you can walk around the shops downstairs and digest !! read more

We had an amazing experience at Fog Harbor Fish House! The staff was friendly and accommodating, gave us a beautiful table with a water view, and surprised us with a cookie cake. They have a primo location right on the water, and many of the tables, including ours have beautiful views of the waterfront activity on San Francisco Bay. The dining room is classy, as was the professional amiable service we received throughout the meal. That service started with freshly baked sourdough rolls and butter. My lunch was San Francisco's signature dish, Cioppino ($42) - Crab, fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels, stewed in a seafood tomato broth. My wife went with a $9 House Salad (Mixed greens tossed with our house vinaigrette) and added on four grilled shrimp for $8. My Cioppino was amazing, a ton of flavor in the broth brimming with a bounty of seafood in the bowl. What a terrific meal! Fog Harbor is located at the entrance of Pier 39 so you don't have to walk down the silky boardwalk to get to it. Also it's located on the second floor which separates from the boardwalk hustle and bustle along with giving better views of the water. I ordered a bowl of their clam chowder for $11.50 to start and then added the seared Pacific Cod for $29. The chowder was very good tasting with a rich flavor and reasonable price (4). The Cod came seared on a plate of white beans, tomatoes and spinach in a garlic aioli sauce with butter. I liked it too (3.5). Table service was good. I notice that at this restaurant they tack on a 5% service charge on to the check for waiter health insurance! The tipping culture in this state and country suck! read more

I really wanted to give this restaurant five stars. I'd been wanting to eat here for some time. Honestly, I'm only even giving it four stars because most of the food was really excellent. Fog Harbor is a really beautiful restaurant. It's loud and bustling, but also classy and has beautiful views of the bay. Our server was a really nice guy. He might have been new, as a few things fell through the cracks during the meal. We ordered clam chowder as an appetizer, but it didn't come out until our entrees came out. At that point, I didn't want it. That said, the server took it off our bill. My wife had the mixed grill, which was fine. The food on the dish was not very hot, nor was the clam chowder. It was still good, but a bit disappointing. My Cioppino was excellent. Some of the best I've ever had. The crab meat was piled on top and it was delicious. The bread was also warm and delicious. The dessert was great too. We had the duo, which had crème brûlée and flourless chocolate cake. At the end of the meal, the check came and it had several wrong items listed. I was annoyed that I had to let them know that they charged for several things I didn't order. They fixed it, but I had to wait quite awhile for them to do so. I still think this is a great place with awesome food and a great atmosphere. For a very touristy place the food is actually the real deal. read more

We visited Fog Harbor Fish House with our family while we were up in San Francisco to watch the Padres take on the Giants, and we're really glad we decided to eat here! Our waiter recommended a mixed seafood platter, and it was absolutely delicious -- especially considering I'm someone who doesn't even like seafood that much! It was a great recommendation. My kids had always wanted to experience the classic San Francisco sourdough bread bowl clam chowder, so they both ordered one, and they loved it. The clam chowder was delicious, and the sourdough bread bowl made it even better. My wife had one of the pasta dishes and really enjoyed it as well. The service was excellent from start to finish, and you can't beat the location right on the waterfront. Considering the location, we also thought the prices were very reasonable. And I have to mention the sourdough bread they bring to the table -- it was really good. Our waiter even gave us an extra order to take with us when we left, which was such a nice touch and something we really appreciated. Overall, a great family dining experience. I would order 100 of these if I could - everything about it from the soft, fluffy texture of the risotto with its fragrant, white wine sauce and juicy crab bits, to the tender, succulent scallops with a lightly crisp, caramlized exterior was just divine. Grilled octopus - Served with sliced potatoes, very tender octopus leg with a flavorful, herby marinade. This might be a seasonal item but if available would definitely order. My first visit to Fog Harbor did not disappoint! We ordered the blue cheese toast, red pepper shrimp, and the mixed grill plate as the main. The blue cheese toast was 5/5 and packed with flavor - garlicky, buttery, and a mild taste of blue cheese. This was a solid combination to get the meal started. Red pepper shrimp was also solid, probably a 4/5. The flavor was solid and not too spicy. This was more of a stew and a bit harder to share. However, it does pair nicely with the house bread which was served steaming hot. Solid dish. The main event was the mixed grill seafood plate. The seafood was cooked perfectly but thought the accompanying sauce oils have used a little more pizzazz. I was more focused on clean protein so this wasn't an issue for me but I could see how someone could prefer a more flavorful or citrusy sauce pairing. We ended up paying $8.50 for water. I noticed he did this with all his other patrons. Other servers would offer tap water and they didnt have to pay for water. I felt tricked into it. I'm sure he does this so his tip would be higher. Bad customer service! It would've been nice to have been offered tap water so we didn't feel tricked into paying for water. Although this is a landmark restaurant with wonderful views all around, and although our service from our waiter was top notch, my guest and I agreed that the flavors just weren't there for most of the dishes. The lobster roll was fresh but that's it. Very plain and expensive. My seafood pasta was visually stunning but lacked flavor. It tasted like it came out of a thawed out can to be honest. Lots of tourists but also locals looking to have nice dinner. Our server was amazing. The food was phenomenal we all had something different but it was phenomenal. Clam chowder was delicious and flavorful. Love the little sourdough rolls and the calamari was perfect. I loved the added onion and jalapeno. Lots of options for seafood or non seafood eaters. 10/10 recommend. My only complaint is we got a reservation early in the day set a time for hours later showed up on time checked in and didn't get seated til about 15 mins past the reservation. I liked that Fog Harbor Fish House is a family-owned restaurant and decided to keep my reservation even after a local guide warned me against going. To summarize our experience from best to worst: **view, food, wait staff.** Reservations are definitely recommended. The restaurant was packed and noisy, and there was still a huge line waiting for tables shortly before closing. ** VIEW** We were fortunate to have a table by the window, and once they lifted the shades, the view was incredible: sunset over the bay, Alcatraz, the marina, a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge, and even the sea lions in the distance. There appeared to be about five rows of tables, so most diners won't have this view. But if you can get a window table, it is most excellent and easily the highlight of the restaurant. ** FOOD** My ahi tuna poke appetizer was good, with plenty of tuna. The clam chowder, however, had so much of an herb sprinkled over the top--rosemary or thyme, perhaps--that the herb became the dominant flavor instead of the clam chowder itself. My husband had the halibut. He thought it was okay, but it didn't taste as fresh as the fish we'd enjoyed at Scoma's. ** SERVICE** Unfortunately, our waitress made the dining experience uncomfortable and unpleasant. She was unsmiling, and several times when I thanked her for bringing water or bread, she responded with a hard stare rather than a smile, nod, or "you're welcome." We each received one roll, with no offer of another, which would have been especially nice with my soup. The restaurant was extremely busy, and as someone who worked as a waitress myself for several years, I understand how challenging it can be when every table is full. However, after we finished eating, our waitress didn't return for approximately 30 minutes. Other than asking my husband earlier if he wanted another glass of wine, we didn't see her. I was eventually about to ask another waitress going into the kitchen if she could find her so we could get our check. When the check finally arrived, it included a **5% San Francisco employee charge**, with suggested gratuities of **18%, 20%, and 22%** also listed. The spectacular view was memorable and the food was generally okay, but the combination of the noise, long wait for service, and particularly the unfriendly interaction with our waitress made the meal uncomfortable. Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. The restaurant is conveniently located at Pier 39, and getting there was easy--just hop on the Muni bus from the Ferry Building for a quick ride. The host and general ambiance were pleasant. The main dining room can feel quite crowded with tables packed close together, so I opted to sit at the bar instead. It was cooler, much quieter, and the service was significantly faster. The bartenders were excellent and consistently attentive throughout the visit. For dinner, I ordered the seared Pacific Cod. While the presentation was great, the fish itself was unfortunately overcooked and tough to bite into rather than properly seared. The accompanying beans were decent, though the portion was a bit excessive. The house wine and bread were both standard and fine. January is always pleasantly quiet at Pier 39 even on a Friday night at normally busy tourist destinations. Deciding to head over at the last minute with no reservations, we stumbled upon Fog Harbor Fish House. Their calamari to start was nice and light vs. heavy like some places and so addictive, I could've probably eaten the whole thing. With fish in its name, we had to go for both the salmon and seared ahi which were both excellent. Unlike most dinners, we made sure to save room for the Lotus Biscoff cheesecake as I love anything Lotus. Came here for a work lunch during a market visit and had such a great experience. The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and the views were definitely a highlight--our corporate team visiting from New York absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed work lunch while still feeling special. We were very worried that it would be a tourist trap since it's on Pier 39, but it really is a great restaurant on it's own. And they seat everyone quickly!!We were seated in the back area and had Jordan S as our server and he was amazing - very warm and welcoming, he apologized when he thought our drinks/food wasn't coming out fast enough (even though they were!) great customer service. The food was excellent. We started with cups of clam chowder (they claim it's the best clam chowder in SF, idk if it's the bestttt but it's good!) plus some warm sourdough bread rolls - those were SO good. Then we had the bacon and Parmesan baked oysters which were delicious! We each got a risotto dish. I had the scallops and crab risotto; the scallops were cooked to perfection!! I wish I could eat them every day! The blue crab in the risotto was plentiful. You really get the crab flavor. I loved everything about that dish. My dad ordered the seasonal seafood risotto which came with shrimp, scallops, squid, and mussels. He said that his dish was also delicious. To drink, my dad had the espresso martini, and finished his meal with an americano. I had the Escape from Alcatraz cocktail which is very tropical, coconut forward. The restaurant is nice and big with plenty of seating. It's pretty casual, but feels nicer than just a casual restaurant. There are nice big windows where you can look out and see the Golden Gate Bridge, Ghirardelli's, and the Ferris wheel. We weren't seated right against a window, but still had a great view - we could even see the sea lions from our table. If you park in the very expensive parking garage across from Pier 39, Fog Harbor will validate your parking for 1 free hour of parking (so $10 off), which is really helpful. read more

Let me be upfront, Pacific Coast seafood and I have never really seen eye to eye and Fog Harbor confirmed that relationship hasn't changed. But here's the thing the experience itself was genuinely great and that counts for a lot. The location is a standout. Sitting right on Fisherman's Wharf with that Northern California backdrop is hard to beat and Fog Harbor wears it well. The staff were warm and our waiter a young Italian gentleman who clearly takes his job seriously, did an excellent job managing our large party with patience and attentiveness. 10/10 on service, no question. I kept it simple with an espresso martini and the baked oysters with spinach, bacon and asiago sauce. The martini delivered. The oysters however were tiny and I mean tiny. I came in expecting plump, juicy oysters and these were a little humbling in size. The asiago sauce was also a bit overpowering and competed with the oyster rather than complementing it. But the full party was satisfied and that speaks to the menu having something for everyone even those of us who aren't Pacific Coast seafood converts.
