It seems places to grab steaks in the city of San Francisco have expanded. Lots of steak places in the past were around the Union Square area of San Francisco or steakhouse row down Van Ness Avenue and then there is the Marina. Now you can find a steak in almost any neighborhood in SF. When it comes to steak the best advice is to get at the butchers. This place has lots of different types of beef available and it's called the Blind Butcher in SF. On a Fall stroll on 18th street I landed at the Blind Butcher. I do enjoy the traditional American steak houses but it seems some you will have to dress up in a three piece suit just to dine in. Blind Butcher is more of a casual steakhouse where you will see people wearing tie dye shirts and others just wearing casual wear dinning in. Inside is a bit dim and has a bar and some seating. I started off with the lollipop lambs which came with cherry tomatoes and they were delicious and not gamey and so tender. If you had a blind test you wouldn't know it was lamb and would guess more likely it would have been beef steak. Then I got the Truffle Lobster Mac & Cheese and it was so cheesy like some on my social media feed in SF. It was tasty and a little rich. The main star of the meal was the filet mignon. It was juicy and so soft and it had so much flavor. I then washed it down with glasses of Balletto Pinot Noir and Lillie's Pinot Noir on repeat for Don Juan Pinot Noir. Give Blind Butcher a taste test in SF. One of the best dinners I've had! Absolutely loved the vibe inside Blind Butcher. Dimly lit, great music, and that whole date-night / New York vibe. The atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for and I loved it. Our waiter was amazing -- super attentive throughout the entire night and made sure we were taken care of. We started with the Caesar salad, and I have to say probably the best Caesar salad I've ever had. Seriously, it was that good. Then came the viral Butcher's Board, which says it serves 3+ people, but we had to order it. And it absolutely did not disappoint! It came loaded with prime ribeye, filet mignon, rack of lamb, crispy calamari, lobster truffle mac & cheese, butcher's potatoes, creamy octopus, mushrooms, and toasted ciabatta. Everything was so on point. Every bite was delicious and the board was definitely the star of the meal. The drinks were good, but I wouldn't say they were the highlight. We started with an espresso martini made with mezcal instead of vodka. I was intrigued, so of course I had to try it. It was good, but I'm still a fan of the traditional espresso martini. We also had a Lavender Lemon Drop, along with two signature cocktails, The Castro and Lavencine. The Lavencine was easily the best drink of the night. Overall, this was one of the best dinners I've had in a while. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to. I made a reservation at Blind Butcher for 5:00 p.m. for a Saturday evening. Upon arrival, our party was seated near the entrance even though the restaurant had just opened. It was uncomfortably warm in that area, and we were served lukewarm water, which made for a disappointing first impression. After being seated, it took about 15-20 minutes before our order was taken so it felt like we were maybe forgotten. Since there were seven of us, we decided to order family-style. We ordered the Butcher Board, braised short ribs, Brussels sprouts, truffle Mac and cheese, and the Salmon Provençal after learning they were already out of the branzino. Considering the restaurant had just opened for service, it was surprising that this menu item was unavailable. The food arrived much faster than expected, which initially seemed like a positive. However, after tasting everything, I questioned whether some items had been freshly prepared. The fried calamari on the Butcher Board was cold, and several cuts of meat were cooked closer to rare than the requested medium-rare. The other items were ok and didn't really impress the table. The Salmon Provençal was unfortunately overcooked, leaving the fish dry and dense. It ended up being the least enjoyed dish at the table and was barely touched until the end of the meal. The highlights of the evening were the truffle lobster mac and cheese and the braised short ribs both were well-seasoned, served piping hot, and easily the best dishes we ordered. The service was another disappointment. It was difficult to get a server's attention for water refills, additional orders, or even to request the check. While I appreciated that our waitress comped the birthday dessert, the overall level of attentiveness fell short, especially considering the restaurant appeared to be adequately staffed. Overall, both the food and service left my boyfriend and me disappointed. The martini was good, you can never go wrong with an espresso martini. The Mac and cheese was just okay, nothing crazy. The filet mignon was good. It was cooked to a perfect mid rare and I liked how they plated the seasonings on the side. This restaurant is very nicely decorated. So I came here on a Memorial Day night. I've been here a few times before but tonight was very loud, almost as if it was a club atmosphere. Besides that the people here are friendly and my waiter was super nice and attentive to us and always came to our table with a huge smile (thank you to you). I had the rib eye steak and as usual it was a nice tasty steak with enough fat on it to make it juicer and hearty. I had it med. Rare so it was super juicy and tender. I was looking at steak places I haven't tried and came here, our waitress was a rockstar helping us take photos in this dark ambiance..she held up the lamp it was amazing, the food...mashed potatoes was soooo good & creamy. I suggest swapping your potatoes that comes with your meal with the mash, my rib eye was soooo tasty...melts in your mouth. The filet was nicely done too. A lot of meat. I finally checked out Blind Butcher after seeing it all over TikTok and hearing so many good things. The ambiance is nice, dim lighting, cozy, and perfect for a night out. I ordered the 16 oz prime ribeye which was cooked well with a nice sear and good seasoning. It was tender and flavorful, and overall a solid steak. I also tried the lobster truffle mac and cheese which was good but didn't stand out as much as I expected. The Caesar salad was actually really great fresh, well-balanced and one of my favorite parts of the meal. The highlight for me was the Butcher's Old Fashioned super well-balanced and easily my favorite thing I had. Service was alright friendly and smooth overall just not especially standout. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. While it didn't completely exceed expectations it's still a beautiful spot with good food and drinks and definitely worth trying for a nice, low-lit date night vibe. read more

I've walked by this place for years and finally recently dined here. From the low quality food to poor service, my overall experience was a complete disappointment! For two people, we ordered the grilled prosciutto burrata, 16oz prime ribeye steak, and brussels sprouts. The grilled prosciutto burrata was disgusting, and we struggled to finish it. The prosciutto tasted like a drier and worse version of a piece of overcooked bacon. The burrata was low quality - dry and lacked flavor. The dish was drenched in dressings that didn't complement the ingredients. The ribeye was cooked alright but lacked flavor (and this is coming from someone who prefers less salty foods). For a restaurant that's supposedly known for steak, I was disappointed because I could've made a better steak myself. The cut of steak was low quality too, and some parts were difficult to chew. I would've expected a more tender piece of steak. The bathroom was a bit of a disaster too. The toilet seat wasn't even nailed into the toilet! I almost fell off while using it. Service was inattentive and bizarre. At the end of the meal, the server asked if we wanted another round of drinks even after we had already kindly asked for the bill twice. As someone who loves to try a little bit of everything, this was perfect! 2 different types of meat, calamari, perfectly roasted potatoes, lobster mac and mushrooms. I came here this past Saturday right at opening and I have to say I'm very pleased with Blind Butcher. We just walked in, so we didn't get the best seating and got sat at a two person high top. It was a bit squishy and it is very toasty inside, but no complaints. It's cute for a date night or celebration with friends. The staff was so kind and accommodating. They made me strawberry lemon drops and let's just say they were amazing! We ordered the ribeye, mashed potatoes and truffle fries. Everything was up to standard, if not past my standard. Came here for a reservation around 5:15 pm for my girlfriend. It was an anniversary dinner for us! The place is dimmed but the have table lamps which is so cute. Great date night spot. We got 2 cocktails, we don't like the taste of alcohol, I got the espresso martini, tasted great at first then the more I drank it the alcohol seeped in more and more so we couldn't finish it. My girlfriend got the pina cola-do, it didn't really taste like pineapple or coconut, tasted more like orange juice with a hint of coconut. The host was nice and let us know it would be a 5-10 mins wait. We got a booth in the back 20 mins later. The restaurant is very loud and dark with dim lighting.
