Nice rooftop for a date night! However the food is below average tasting. My friends and I came here Thursday night and it was a bit more than halfway booked with just a few tables open. We all got 3 things to share and only 1/3 was good. 1. Kaarage Pollo -- This is one of their petite bites. It's Japanese fried chicken but oh my when I took bites of it I was disappointed. It was too salty and the sauce they pair with it didn't help. I would not get this again... 2. Lima roll -- This roll was good for how simple it is! I recommend it! 3. Kaiyo roll -- This roll was just alright for me. I feel ehh about it. It's a 6.3/10. Try at your own will. It's really pretty at night! I love the vibes of the place and how they have a screen lit up of the beach. I was worried about it being cold but they have heaters running and glass walls. Also the music they play here is bomb. They be being bad bunny and Karol G! I'd come back here to try their drinks but I didn't have the best experience with most of the food. However the workers here are so nice!

We all really liked the food. The service was meh. It took forever to get our order taken, then they didn't want to give us hot water for some reason. They complained when I asked for the special Cobra lady cup with a different drink inside. Our bill was $300 and they didn't really thank us for dining with them. The only guy that did, wasn't there helping us. It was just when we were leaving that he said bye (he had a cool pin on his lapel). I think the drinks were meh too, but I think in general my friends liked them. The wait staff tended to our dishes pretty quickly. My favorite dish was the cod for sure. The salmon sashimi stood out to me and their specialty rolls are nice. I wouldn't get the fried roll though. It just didn't really taste like sushi which was the whole point.

Was really excited to try this place because it's been on my list for a while, but was disappointed. Service was slow, took some time to have our order taken and even longer for the food to come out. After ordering, the 2 rolls came out shortly, however the 2 orders of nigiri and 2 handrolls did not come out for another 20+ mins. I understand that dishes don't always come out at the same time, but the gap felt unusually long given how small our order was. A server let us know that it's due to them inputting the dishes periodically rather than all at once. We would have preferred for them be placed all at once so that the timing felt more cohesive. The servers weren't very attentive and it was difficult to get their attention. The food itself was good, presentation was nice, but the slow service unfortunately took away from the experience. We went upstairs to check out the rooftop, and it was nice. Drinks were good and the view was pretty with good photo ops.

The views are beautiful, truly the highlight of the experience. The very best! Customer service was responsive and solid as well. The food and cocktails, however, didn't quite match the setting. My hot toddy and the Kaiyo roll both looked great but tasted fairly bland. I sampled a bit of every dish, and my girlfriends and I all agreed the food was on the bland side. It's a cute spot for a group hangout or a romantic date, especially for the atmosphere. Very unique interior and space. I'd must go in with adjusted expectations when it comes to the food and drinks.

Kaiyo Rooftop was the absolute highlight of our holiday SF outing with our friend group! The views of the city are truly spectacular and provided the perfect backdrop for our celebration. They also have an indoor restaurant on the 1st floor. We loved the unique blend of flavors in the delicious Peruvian/Japanese influenced food, and their creative holiday drinks were expertly crafted and hit the spot. The atmosphere was vibrant and festive, making it an unforgettable experience for our group. If you're looking for a place that combines amazing service, great cocktails, and a view that can't be beat, this is definitely the spot. Ambiance: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Food: 10/10 Drinks:10/10 Music: 10/10 Seating: indoor & outdoor Parking: street parking available Price: $60-$80 per person (depends on how many drinks you order ;))

This place is cute. Coming from NJ/NY, we are spoiled with great rooftops. So we had high hopes. However, this is more of a drinks place rather than food. I did not enjoy the food much. It was just poor quality compared to the foods we're having in SF. Drinks, they were fun. A lot of people seems to only come for drinks and take pictures and leave. Now i get why. The only thing that my husband said was good was the miso fish. He really like that but the portion was small. The service is fast and the food comes out super fast.

The rooftop access is from the side of the restaurant and definitely worth to get a seat up there. There is a bar at top, with tables that are outside an enclosure roof or tables with open roof. Both have heat lamps to keep people cozy at night. Overall food alone is not the best, but the vibes and ambiance of it being a rooftop seeing the sunset is a nice spot for date night. However, there is one tall building in the center of the view horizon line that really ruins the view, but what can you do? Off to the food review!! 4/5 - Miso-Butter Corn Ribs - Sweet buttery corn ribs with a hint of spice on each rib. Nice sharing plate with a few people to start off the night. Great finger food. Nothing much to complain nice way to start a meal. Some of the kernels were a bit shriveled, but not a huge complaint. 4.1/5 - Nikkei Oysters - It was happy hour, so we ordered some oysters. A bit small for sure, but we do enjoyed the ponzu sauce more than the other leche de tigre on the oyster. Tasted fresh and clean, very much enjoyed these over a nice sunset at happy hour price too. 3.8/5 - Lima Roll - This tasted decent, but had better rolls in sushi restaurants. The fish tasted fresh and sauce was good and flavorful, but for the price i wish it got a specialty or flavor that is more memorable. 3.6/5 - Drinks, I don't remember exactly what I got, but look of each cocktail was quite unique and I got one holiday drink that looks like an ornament. Great presentation, but the drink itself was quite strong and not much else. My partner also agreed her drink was too strong despite asking for the sweetest drink.

This place was amazing. Food was delicious Service was a 10 very attentive to customers needs. The view from the outside rooftop during sunset was beautiful. Amazing views Gray for group. Girls night or date night.

We came here for drinks before our dinner reservation that was down the street. Their menu looked pretty good, and we order some snacks to share. We had the miso black cod, miso corn, and the chicken sando. Everything was pretty good. I really liked the miso corn. It was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh. The chicken sando had good flavor. The chicken was moist and the sauce they put on it went well with it. The salad was fresh, and the dressing was nice. I'm not sure what kind of dressing it was, but at least they didn't really overly drown the lettuce. The miso black cod was cooked perfectly, but it was a little salty. I would totally come again. They bar tenders were nice and gave good service. The place is clean and well kept. Nice view of the city. Plus, the had heater overhead in the main bar area to keep you warm.

I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Kaiyo Rooftop and working with event coordinator Giselle to create the perfect company holiday happy hour. We booked a section from 4-6 PM for 10-15 people with three appetizers- I opted for two platters of anticuchos de pollo, yucca fries, and beef empanadas. We also ordered the Kaiyo favorites- nigiri (30 pieces) and rolls (48 pieces), along with a two hour beverage package charged for every guest- inclusive of all drinks $20 and under including cocktails, wine, beer, and beverages. I also ordered a side of French fries and avocado edamame dip with plantain chips! Avocado edamame was the collaboration I never knew I needed, but that went together very well. The holiday cocktails were delicious and came in cute cups. The Alejandro was quite popular, and the non-alcoholic mocktails were also creatively curated and allowed my coworkers and I to celebrate without needing to get tipsy. Our server was quite attentive and it was easy to get his attention. The food was great, no complaints there. The view is gorgeous and the outdoor heaters help so much in the chilly winter SF weather! Christmas decorations in the lobby and at the bar allowed us to get in quite the festive mood. We enjoyed celebrating Nikkei Navidad and would definitely host more corporate events here in the future. You can get an excellent view of Fidi and of the Bay itself.

Wow this has been on my list to try for awhile . We were heading to dinner in SF so I came early to go here. It is right across from where I was going to dinner so fantastic location. We arrived on a Saturday a little after 3PM and found a parking spot on the street just a ways down from the place. It was pay parking but affordable. We used the app and my wife already had it. Simple. The bar is on top of the Hyatt hotel. They have a separate entrance foe the rooftop bar. It's blocked off with metal guard rails with their logo on it. The receptionist walked us to the elevator and used her card to allow us up to the rooftop. Very nice and friendly. The elevator wasn't very fast. It was weird that they were playing Mexican music downstairs and when we got to the bar it was also Mexican. All of the staff at the bar were also Mexican. Kaiyo is Japanese but this place is a calibration with Peruvian and Japanese. We got off the elevator and was greeted by another receptionist for the bar. She asked if we had reservations but we didn't. I said I wanted to go to the bar. She said there were 12 seats there and just go outside and to the right. The place was really nice with some great views of the City. No one was at the bar so we sat at the far end. The bartender greeted us and gave us menus. There was one table taken while the rest of the place was empty. Mostly staff. It was overcast but not bad weather so that was good. I looked over the drink menu and was disappointed that they only have 3 of the Kaiyo brand whiskey. I had all 3 at home. Since the name of the place is Kaiyo it was saddening. I asked about other Japanese whiskies but they were out of stock of several brands. I was looking for the 2012 ones. I ended up going with a more expensive one the Suntory Hakushu 2018 for $100 bucks. It was smooth with a little bit of smoke. Nice We were hungry since I drove down to SF. We ordered the chicken Katsu Sado and the Miso black Cod. The food arrived but I got the sandwich and Miso-butter ribs which we didn't order. My wife caught it but the server left. I saw a manager and told him our order came out wrong. He checked on what we ordered and started to take the corn away but then he put it back and told us to enjoy it while we waited. So nice. The Chicken Katsu Sando was very good. We really liked it, cooked nicely. The Miso-butter corn ribs were good to. The husk in the middle made it like a rib since you couldn't eat it. Like a bone. The cod was taking awhile to come out and the manager came over and asked if we wanted some petit fours while we waited. Such a nice jester but we didn't want to ruin our dinner so I declined. Soon the cod came out and it was cooked perfectly but a bit salty. Liked it anyway. The service was amazing and the staff so nice. I like the setup of the bar and the rest of the tables. The look of the place was pretty. I didn't like the bar chairs at all. They dragged as you moved them and the metal bottoms would make metal scrapping sound very loudly when ever you moved around. They need to replace the chairs with nicer ones or fix the bottoms of the legs. Of course the views are incredible here. It was a fun place and I will come back again to try more food and drinks

This place was so accommodating for the super bowl people stayed for hours and they even provided umbrellas and blankets when it started to drizzle. Beautiful seating area just a little on the small side and cramped but hey it's sf and we're were able to snag a no show table. you don't see the view of the city skyline unless your on the side with a private party or heading to the bathroom. They had a special menu offering for the super bowl which we selected the platter from it's was really good the corn ribs surprised me and they had themed cocktails for the bowl as well! Nice large tv for viewing and heaters up above too. Would definitely be back!

Cold Tuesday night at Kaiyo -- slow restaurant, slower service. Food: 4/5 Service: 0/5 We had reservations but chose to sit at the bar. We sat for about five minutes before the bartender (I believe her name was Zee) finally acknowledged us with, "What do you guys want to drink?" -- no greeting, nothing. Not a great start. She began making our drinks, then bartender Axel came in and she handed them off to him. We thought, great, new shift, maybe the service will improve. Unfortunately, it didn't. Zee took our food order, and then both bartenders essentially disappeared from our existence. No check-ins, no offer for another drink. After waiting a while, I finally worked up the courage to ask for a second drink because every guest around us seemed to be bothering them anytime they asked for anything. When our roll arrived, we asked for sriracha. The manager said they don't have it -- only the sauces that come with the roll (rocoto aioli). My husband asked if we could just have rocoto on its own. The answer was... no. Interesting, considering it's apparently available to make the aioli. Zee seemed to feel bad and offered Tapatío instead. We declined. At that point we decided this just wasn't the place to spend the evening before our concert. We asked Axel for the check (which also came with attitude), paid, and left. On the way out I told the manager we were disappointed. He apologized and said Zee had dealt with a difficult party earlier. Fair enough -- but that doesn't explain Axel's attitude the entire time. Despite everything, we still tipped 20% because we weren't going to be blamed for poor tips. For what it's worth, the Kaiyo roll and the wings were good -- which is why the food still gets a 4/5. But the service completely overshadowed the experience. Also worth noting: it was a slow night and they still couldn't make a piña colada, despite having rum and using pineapple and coconut in other drinks. We've enjoyed Kaiyo in the past, but the manager needs to be more present and check on guests. Service like this on a quiet Tuesday night shouldn't happen.

Seeing that it was named one of the top 50 best bars in North American, we had to check it out! We came in a Thursday night in mid-April about 9:45 PM. They have security outside thar checks IDs & also manages the queue in case the bar gets too crowded. We had no issues getting in, but there were zero indoor seats available - both the bar & table seating. Thankfully, they have a really cozy & well-lit patio area. The waitress let us know that even the outdoor patio has table-side service, so we made ourselves comfortable on the outdoor bench & within seconds she had brought us waters & cocktail menus. Weather outside was really nice, so I'm glad we actually sat outside. Each cocktail is $20, which definitely is a little steep, but I think the creativity, quality, & prestige of being named a top 50 bar supports the price. Each part of the menu is organized by liquor ie whiskey, vodka, brandy, gin, etc. We tried 4 drinks total. I only took menu photos of the pages we ordered from but they have a lot more selections. We ordered the Kung Fu Pandan, Silky Street, Rice Rice Baby, & Tropical Gangsta. We had some favorites over others, but all were very well crafted! The drinks came out pretty quickly considering how busy it was. The only hiccup was our final drink took quite a while. Turns out the ticket machine malfunctioned & deleted orders put in & caused a back-up. The waitress was so apologetic & ended up comp-ing 2 drinks, which she definitely didn't have to but it speaks volumes to the high standards they hold themselves to & their customer service. Overall, highly highly recommend checking this place out for a fun night out or post-dinner treat! Glad we made the decision to stop in!

I took my two friends here for a birthday celebration, and it was so magnificent.  It looks very unassuming from the host stand, but you are transported into a beautiful dining area as you are ushered in. Lush velvet booths, a beautiful mural behind a magnificent bar top, and even perfect table ware!! I love when restaurants pay attention to details. Everything I ordered was delicious. The oysters, uni amaebi donburi (Sea Urchin & Raw Shrimp Rice Bowl), Tom Kha Ceviche, and the chicken egg salad sandwich. The bites were truly so decadent, balanced, and well-executed. The oysters were fresh, plump, and perfectly topped with sweet and citrusy flavors. The bite of the night was the uni amaebi bowl. They load you up on sea urchin, shrimp, and roe. It is bursting with flavor, and paired with PERFECTLY COOKED RICE.  The drinks were also amazing! I got the matcha cocktail and the espresso martini. I mean... phenomenal. Everyone wants to do a matcha cocktail, but I don't think a single bar program is going to put one out as perfect as Shoji's. It's delicate and earthy, and the perfect drink to pair with their menu.  Dessert was also good! Tea-based affogatos. They're fun. Ugh, I want to live in SF just so I can frequent Shoji. I will be back for dinner and to try their day time cafe. Get a reservation if you can, it is so worth it!
