I've lived in this neighborhood for over 10 years, I've dined at this restaurant pre-pandemic and post-pandemic, and I was excited to bring my family here after seeing the Cirque de Soleil show next door. It has been a couple years since I've dined here (I tend to cook at home a lot); however this was probably the most disappointing experience at any restaurant in recent memory. We were promptly seated upon arrival in the upstairs dining area (an extension that was created by a nicely heated, clear tent). We ordered the potato gnocchi, ahi tuna sandwich + fries, ahi salad, and paella. All our food came out in great time. Unfortunately, after the paella was placed in front of my dad, the server turned to walk away, then paused for a second to mention "be careful, it's hot" at literally the same time my dad yells, "ouch!" because he had just touched the serving dish. I've burned myself in the kitchen enough times to know it's important to put it under cool running water, so I had him stick his finger in the water glass at least until the server was able to fetch some ice. When a dish is that hot, it's critical that warning is given AS the dish is arriving at the table, not after. And a new water glass was not offered... My sister's potato gnocchi looked suspiciously mushy to me when it was placed on the table, but when I looked over to what she was eating, I confirmed my suspicions. The potato gnocchi was literally the texture of mashed potatoes. I don't know how that even slipped through the pass. When I brought it to our server's attention, she offered to replace it with a different entree and fix the bill accordingly. my sister opted for the impossible burger + fries. Overall, the food was pretty disappointing. I tried some of the paella and it was good, but not amazing (and maybe a little too salty). My ahi tuna sandwich was almost tasteless. The slaw had no flavor and neither did the fries. Also, ketchup wasn't even offered when fries were being delivered to the table -- we had to ask for those after the fact. My sister didn't even finish her impossible burger. And my mom's ahi salad, was also pretty basic looking. On another note, the bathrooms needed some attention with the wastebasket overflowing and the soap dispenser out of soap. I miss the old ATwater Tavern that I remembered and can only hope it gets better. read more

My work did a dinner here the other night and we had a great time. The appetizers food and drinks are so wonderful. Everything tasted great. The only thing that was kind of weird is I think we were still eating towards when they were closing and they started putting things away and trying to dim the lights to the point where the lights literally kept turning off so we were eating in the dark. My manager was not happy about this and kept talking about it after we'd left the restaurant because it's just weird behavior. I don't really know why they can't just close after the customers are actually outside it was just us and another small group. I love coming to this restaurant to enjoy a beautiful San Franciscan day. I personally just wanted a simple meal within my diet, but my friend enjoyed the delicious cheeseburger and fries. I opted for the buffalo chicken wings with the sauce on the side, and extra carrots and cucumbers on the side. Also, the Brussel sprouts were fantastic with the balsamic dressing. Almost seemed as if it was intentional. We had to yell and flag our waiter down, and told him we were about to leave because we were forgotten about. Meanwhile other customers were very attended to even though it did get much busier as it got later in the day. One waiter went as far as to recognize a couple who had visited before, and went as far as to take pictures with them and get their name, while our waiter left us in the corner ignored. We rented out a portion of the entire place. Came here for a happy hour and promptly ordered my favorite dish on the menu- raw oysters!! This place did not disappoint at all, they were flavorful and fresh and easily the most enjoyable part of my afternoon (especially since it was competing with the Giants getting crushed by the Royals). Parking is quite rough- my friends paid $50 for it. We walked over from the Caltrain station to Oracle Park, then to ATwater Tavern!). Typically with restaurants like these that have prime real estate I find that they can be lazy with quality, but I enjoyed dining at ATwater immensely. The strawberry lemonade I ordered was really fresh and had real pulp in it. The paella was good, but the rice could've had a bit more tomato or saffron!! There was SO much seafood and protein in this dish, I was in heaven. I was in calamari/shrimp/mussel/clam/chicken heaven. We also ordered lobster ravioli, calamari, and there was popcorn/fried chicken sliders for the entire party. These were a bit stale and not seasoned very well by my standards, I also found the popcorn to have too much of a fake butter aftertaste. I would stick to the seafood here. I will say though, the day we went was blazing. Definitely unexpected for SF. Shaded spots were difficult to find/only covered half of our party- definitely bring protection if you choose to dine outdoors and enjoy sunny weather (be it in the form of an umbrella or sunscreen). read more

Happy Hour oysters for $1 a piece - I am gonna be here every week. This place is tucked away behind China Basin, and an easy walk to Chase Center or Oracle Park. Parking is hit or miss on street, but there are some parking lots nearby. Have come here a few times with work colleagues when we have meetings in this part of town. Always a great place to grab a cocktail and snacks before the trek down back to the peninsula. The oysters option is great for happy hour, though I have thoroughly enjoyed their crab cakes and other seafood items on the menu. The bar and serving staff is quick and friendly - but I am sure that once the place gets busier during regular hours, the wait may be longer. My brother Adam and I stopped in while we were in town for the Metallica concert and a Giants game. He went with an omelette and a coffee, and I had the fish and chips with an Old Fashioned -- all of it was spot on. Our server (I wish I'd caught her name) was incredibly charming and engaging, and made the whole experience feel special. We had a reservation for 10:45, but when we showed up early -- around 10:25 -- they welcomed us in without hesitation and couldn't have been friendlier, even though they don't open until 10:30. I got the poke which was technically a starter but I had the whole thing as a meal, which I definitely think can work if you're not feeling too hungry. I deducted a star because unfortunately our service was pretty slow - totally understand that this can happen but there was a mix up and we didn't get our orders taken for over 20 mins, even though we had made a reservation. Even after that it still moved a little slowly. Things happen though, and the staff was super nice about it. Also the lemonade was AMAZING. Would recommend overall! read more

We went here before the cirque de soleil show last night. We haven't been here in a few years. We had such a fabulous evening having dinner on their back deck. My husband had the filet mignon and I had the eggplant parm. DELICIOUS! We ended dinner with a fantastic Nutella canola. So yummy! Our server Jordan was amazing.
