We had an appointment nearby and noticed they were open for lunch, which surprised us. Usually, restaurants in this specific location seem to cater mostly to Giants game days or the dinner crowd. The service was great, and the ambiance inside was really lovely. Unfortunately, the food was just okay, especially for the price. We've had Peruvian food before and love it, so we were excited to try it. The plantains were dry, and the potatoes in the Lomo Saltado were incredibly dry--almost like eating paper--with virtually no flavor. The Caesar salad was a honestly sad. When it arrived, we thought the server had accidentally split one salad into three portions and only brought us the first plate because it looked so tiny. We were actually expecting the other two plates to come out. The ceviche was probably our favorite dish, but it's hard to go wrong with fresh ceviche and lime. The chicken sandwich was just okay. Nothing memorable, and we've definitely had much better, especially considering the price. Overall, we'd come back for the beautiful ambiance and drinks at the bar. read more

I visited Casa Sofia for the first time with some friends on a weekday evening after walking by it a few times to and from nearby Oracle Park. We were able to snag a same-day reservation and felt fortunate to be seated in a spacious booth facing the bar. It gave us a comfortable spot to hang out in while taking in the colourful ambiance and decor. The restaurant was busy enough for a Tuesday evening, but not so busy that it felt overwhelming. I can imagine it gets much busier (and perhaps a bit more chaotic) on game/event days. The cocktails were delicious - well-balanced, just the right amount of strong, and not too sweet. My favourite was the pisco sour. The only downside is that they don't appear to offer happy hour or any other food or drink specials or have plans to. The food was spectacular! We shared everything family-style: - Stone fruit salad and ceviche (both vibrant and refreshing) - Grilled octopus (I almost missed this on the menu, but thankfully my friend spotted it. It ended up being one of my fave dishes and was cooked perfectly.) - Pork chop (I'd heard great things about this before visiting, so it was a must-order for us. It lived up to the hype - well-cooked and delicious.) - Arroz con mariscos (think paella, but with its own distinct flavors) - Crullers (freshly made and lighter than expected) Beyond the excellent food and drinks, the staff really elevated the experience. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and conversational. The only thing I didn't get to try this time was the platano frito, which is usually one of my fave add-ons. Good spot for nice dinner near oracle park. The plates are mostly shareable / small bites so you need to order a lot! Love the Latin American flavors and menu. Favorite bites were the octopus and the tuna tartare (presentation of the tuna was so cool). The potato puree that came with the octopus was so good!! The other dishes didn't stand out as much but everything was decent. Enjoyed the small plates more than the mains. Service was friendly and food came out pretty fast. This place has a nice decor inside and is close to the Giants ballpark. We stopped by just for dessert and ordered the Stone Fruit Tart. The blackberry and nectarine in the tart were good. The dessert came with an ice cream that was supposed to have white pepper in it. I didn't taste the pepper flavor, but the ice cream was still tasty. Overall, it was a good dessert, though $18 felt a bit steep. read more

Came to Casa Sofia for a birthday celebration for 3 after another restaurant unexpectedly told us they were closed at the last minute. We walked in around 5:30 PM without a res, and they were able to accommodate us right away! First, the space is gorgeous with the warm colors, decor, and lighting, making it feel upscale while still being cozy and comfortable. The host and our server were also incredibly kind and knowledgeable throughout the meal. The meal started with complimentary chips with aioli, and they were dangerously addictive. For appetizers, we ordered the mini empanadas and chicken almondegas, and both were AMAZING. The sauces that paired were so good we kept it for the main dishes even though we may not have needed it. For mains, we shared the crab ravioli special (delicious, just wish there was a little more), the arroz con mariscos (perfect if you love seafood), and the skirt steak al mojo de ajo, which was cooked perfectly. Ended with a very tiny chocolate dessert for the birthday, super cute. Such a great experience from the food to the service. We'll definitely be back to try the tasting menu next time! read more

Absolutely wonderful! I truly ascended at dinner tonight. Every single dish was immaculate and not to mention gorgeous. One of the best dinners I've had in a while! The restaurant itself is so beautiful as well, especially the bar and the artwork above it, just stunning. Our service was great and we all agreed that we did not have a single bad dish. Got a chance to come here with our good friends Marco and Sarah and we pretty much ordered the whole menu. We were originally going to do their prix fixe but given the variety on offer it just didn't make the most sense for our group. Really glad we went that route because everything was excellent and the flavors across the board were solid and well done. The ambiance is great too, and I have to say Casa Sofia is a really nice spot to catch a live sports game if that's your kind of evening. Definitely adds to the overall vibe of the place in a fun way. New Mexican is not something you find a ton of in SF so it's a nice addition to have a spot like this around. First time coming. We caught uber because parking is horrible around this area. We came 45 minutes before they closed as well. Restaurant was beautiful decorated. Host was very nice. All the food was delicious just wish portions were bigger. I wouldn't recommend the tres mangos because it was all ice. The crullers were ok. Try it if in the neighborhood. After attending one of his other Restaurants (Altamiranos) on Fulton in the spring I was informed that Casa Sofia was in the works and would be opening in the next 6 months; so I had this place on my radar. The restaurant did not disappoint. The decor inside the restaurant is homie and inviting, clean lines and that open space gives it that feeling. Our server was nice and attentive but I noted a few issues that cost them a star, when first asked about drinks I asked for a bottle of Cava to start there is only one on the menu ( I looked it up before going to the restaurant) he was unfamiliar and said wines change all the time and didn't know what I was referring about. We were put in a booth and I am tall, left handed, and had to sit with my back to the server so the seating arrangements for me was probably the worst table in the restaurant. The foods was absolutely delicious and didn't disappoint except the plantains that were cut into thick pieces and had more of a home fries type texture (fried but not crispy). The other thing that cost them a star was "marking the table" the dishes came, and we had some plate and silverware changes between items but they often happened after the next dishes were delivered. Items like the crab toast is a single slider so if you are sharing dishes I wouldn't recommend this one to share, or they need to change it to bite size buns or actually change it to a crostini with crab instead . read more

We had dinner at Casa Sofia tonight with four people, and overall it was a really enjoyable meal. We started with the Tres Mangos cocktail (reposado tequila, mezcal, mango, chamoy, and lime). It was refreshing and well balanced--not too sweet. The first glass had a small crack in it, so we sent it back. They apologized and quickly made us a new one, so no issues there. We ordered quite a few appetizers, and the two standouts for me were the ceviche and the octopus. Both were packed with flavor without being overly salty, which I really appreciated. The shishito peppers and broccolini were also excellent. The mushroom empanadas were tasty and worth ordering as well. My favorite dish of the night was the pork chop with pears. The pork chop was cooked perfectly--moist, juicy, flavorful, and tender. The sweetness of the pears paired really well with the pork and brought the whole dish together. It was easily the best entrée we had. Dessert was also solid. We tried both the chocolate cake and the cheesecake, and both were a great way to end the meal. Overall, the food was well executed, the service was friendly, and for four people we ordered plenty of food and spent about $500, including drinks. If you're looking for a nice dinner with creative dishes and quality ingredients, Casa Sofia is definitely worth checking out. Casa Sophia is an amazing new chic Latin American restaurant near Oracle Park. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. The manager (or perhaps restaurant owner I am not sure..) made our experience exceptional and paired each our dishes with the right wine. Our starters were the fried pantains (best I've ever had) and the empanadas. Both were fabulous. Our mains were the ribs and the halibut. Ribs were sweet and juicy and fell right off the bone. The fish was cooked perfectly and we were told it was caught that morning! Those were paired with a special "orange" wine. I would ask for it again. Hosts and servers were on point all night despite a packed house, we had a great time and loved our recommendations. The food and drink... Amazing. We ordered the Ceviche, Aji De Gallina, Pork Chop, and Brocollini, as well as a Tennessee Jaguar. Our favorites were definitely the pork chop and ceviche. The pork chop is a healthy cut, and its spices paired really well with the garlic mashed potatoes and peaches. The ceviche is one of our favorites we've ever had, we just wanted more! I first visited Casa Sophia during their grand opening a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by both the atmosphere and the food. I loved it so much that I insisted my husband and friends come back with me so we could experience the full menu--not just the delicious party bites from opening night. I'm happy to report that it exceeded my expectations. San Francisco is known for incredible food, and people will happily travel across the city--or across the Bay--for a memorable meal. That's why I'm especially excited to have a restaurant of this caliber right here in the neighborhood. Honestly, the food rivals many of the best restaurants I've visited anywhere in the country. We enjoyed the ceviche, tuna tartare, fresh halibut, broccolini, divine cruller donuts, excellent cocktails, and a wonderful wine selection. Every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Our server, Colton, was fantastic, and the entire support staff was warm, attentive, and professional. They made us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. I can't wait to go back again and again. Wishing the entire Casa Sophia team tremendous success. Great food - Difficult Barman! Oddest experience ever with a difficult barman - who studiously ignored us, we ended up asking his two friendly colleagues to place our orders for eating at the bar. It was a very nice experience at this restaurant. It was four of us and we ordered four different mains. I have Gallina, my friends had pork chop, steak, and and a seafood plate. We tried each other's food and everything was delicious. My plate especially was unique in flavor and appearance and I loved it. For the appetizers we had octopus, tuna tartar, and baby back ribs, and again all were fresh and delicious. Then dessert came that's where I was a little disappointed. I ordered three donuts (they are called differently on the menu) and they seem to be raw inside. The service at this restaurant is superb, everybody from the server, bus people, and hostess are very friendly, constantly making sure that we were doing okay and did not need anything. All in all, this restaurant is going to be on my list of favorite restaurants in the city. read more

Had a wonderful meal and experience last night at Casa Sofia. From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming, cheerful, and genuinely attentive. Throughout the evening, we found ourselves chatting with various team members about everything from the food and the new space to the neighborhood--and then back to the food again! My partner and I were celebrating both my birthday and our anniversary, making it a special occasion, and the team went out of their way to make it feel that way. The new space is fantastic--playful, chic, comfortable, and full of personality. There's even a roll-up door they can open when the weather cooperates, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor feel. We were seated in a plush pastel banquette with a unique view of the open kitchen, where we could watch and hear the dishes being crafted. More than once we found ourselves spotting plates headed to other tables and making mental notes for our next visit (looking at you, pork ribs). As for the food, there were several highlights. The stone fruit salad was beautifully balanced, with a surprising note of fennel that, for me, brought the entire dish together. My partner ordered the pork chop, and it was outstanding--we shared everything, and I had a hard time giving his plate back. Of course, dessert was mandatory. I chose the chocolate decadence, while my partner ordered the arroz con leche brûlée, a clever and delicious creation unlike anything either of us had tried before. Then came an unexpected treat: a lavender-glazed cruller--one of my favorite pastries--which was a delightful surprise. Just when we thought we couldn't possibly eat another bite, the team presented us with an off-menu strawberry ice cream sundae draped in chocolate sauce and strawberry gelée. The ice cream was smooth as silk and absolutely triumphant. We left completely full, thoroughly satisfied, and already talking about what we want to order on our next visit. Always taking Peruvian cuisine and making it special, Chef Carlos Altamirano has a foothold for Giants fans and the neighborhood locals. Right when you enter you are greeted with a contemporary decor, music, and beautiful mural of Sofia. Multiple TVs at the bar. I saw some private rooms for parties too. Just steps away from the Oracle Park, I'll be coming back here to eat when we come for a Giants game or the next concert. Our server Zach was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very courteous. We felt we had the perfect amount of attention and our topped off to enjoy our meal. The cocktails were phenomenal to start off the night. Sofia's Punch was one of my favorites.
