pistachio feta dip, meat and cheese board, riesling
Michelle Z.

Super adorable wine bar in Hayes! Absolutely loved the outdoor patio (heated). The garden vibes are so cute and cozy, and it feels like you can sit there for hours just chatting and sipping wine and snacking on small bites. Went with some friends on a Monday night and it was pretty quiet. I liked the quieter environment but I could see it getting pretty busy on a Friday or weekend night. They don't have a ton of food; most of the dishes are small bites, dips, or meat/cheese boards so don't expect a full dinner here. I liked the pistachio feta dip & the bread that came with it. We also got a meat & cheese board which was very filling and had tons of fun combinations to try. I also got a glass of riesling which was great. Amazing service too! Would definitely recommend for a happy hour.

It was thrilling to find this cute space for Happy Hour with BFF. The narrow bar lined with wines on the brick wall leads to a cozy, plant-filled garden in the back. The space has a chill and calm vibe. A sign asks for guests to speak quietly out of respect for neighbors upstairs. It seemed like the table next to us did not see the signs as they were merrily and obliviously chatting very loudly to the point of screaming. A man also had his dog with him which was cool but dribbling the ball repeatedly and playing with his dog while patrons were eating was not cool. You get the picture of the chill and chic casual space. Venting aside, we loved out experience at BIRBA. The service was warm, friendly and efficient We ordered the Cheese Board with manchego, nicasio amd lingonberry preserve; feta dip and Italian bread that came with EVOO. The EVOO was good enough to drink (but I didn't. Ha! Ha!). Portions were generous. We ordered 3 drinks. I had the Cardamaro & Tonic with warm spice notes. It tasted like autumn! I love it! My BFF liked her drinks, too. We will definitely be back! Tab: $50 per gal including tip

3.5 stars A solid wine bar with yummy apps that can serve as a light dinner. Hubby and I came for a quick light dinner before a show at the bill graham civic center which is a short walk away. I loved the casual vibe here. We sat outside and had a few glasses of wine (they have orange and natural wines which I love) while we snacked on their deviled eggs, smoked salmon dip, meat board and their pepper poppers. Their deviled eggs were super delicious (though pricey at $15 for 4 pieces) and came with some pickled veggies as well. We also enjoyed the pepper poppers which were surprisingly refreshing with the lemon zest. The salmon dip and meat board were also yummy but nothing particularly special IMO. It was a little pricey overall, but we had friendly service and what we ordered was enough to satisfy us for dinner. Overall, would recommend for a casual hangout or a stop before a show (which is what we did).

Good wine and good wine/meat & cheese plate. Also have the heated patio/and a couch! I read their "meat and cheese" as mac and cheese and got way too excited, only to be told that they don't have it. I might come everyday if they do.

Súper cute, very aesthetic, the staff was so nice but the portions for the app are so disrespectful. Shaved cucumbers for 8 dollars and mind you it wasn't even a whole cucumber.

Casual wine-bar, backyard patio meets wine shop in Hayes Valley, Birba has a decidedly easy going feel. Its a woman-run business, and owner Angela Valgiusti, has brought over a decade of experience as a sommelier and restaurant manager to the task when starting Birba, which means "little troublemaker." The menu features dips, homemade sesame flatbread, cheese, charcuterie all to pair with wine, served by the bottle or the glass. Favorite items for us included several choices in whites, reds and bubbly wines on their wine list by the glass and an even more extensive list by the bottle. There are about a dozen options on the food menu all that pair well with an extensive by the glass wine selection. We enjoyed everything, particularly their salmon dip and housemade sesame flatbread. Best to come here to Birba on days you want to sit outside and drink wine. The patio is roomy, but indoor dining space is limited and doubles as a wine shop. Customers get a significant bottle discount when adding a to-go wine (or two) onto a food a drinks bill at Birba.

Cute little wine bar with an outdoor patio in the back (with heat lamps). Tons of great finger food, dips, and spreads. My favorite was the burrata.

New favorite wine bar! Located snug in a residential Hayes hood, this is a great spot to come with friends, date or solo. The back patio is definitely my favorite spot but you have to appreciate all the delicious variety of goodies they have on their menu. From wine to bubbles to snacks, you really can't go wrong picking and choosing. We had the pleasure of meeting Ryan who was super thoughtful along with the gentlemen who served us. All around good vibes.

It's cute neighborhood wine bar with a cute backyard patio. Good wine, cocktails and delicious small plates. The servers were so friendly and informative with the menu. Such a chill place for a group of friends to get together or a nice cozy place for a date. Our favorite friend hangout for an unassuming cozy casual gem! Five stars!

Cheeky hour spritzer

This spot has a deal called "cheeky hour" that is hella cute. Some wines and spritzers are only 8 bucks and come with tapas! The way this economy is, that's such a good deal. The tapas were nuts, olives and popcorn with some kind of truffle oil. It went super well with the littler spritzer that was not too sweet.

Love love love this place. The staff are so sweet and they helped me pick out the perfect choice of wine and starter for me. I got the pistachio feta dip which comes with flatbread and crudite. It was amazing and the dip to flatbread/vegetable ratio was perfect. Definitely need to come back to try the salmon dip next time! The ambience of the patio area is great, super intimate and lots of greenery. There are heaters outside which is nice too.

I love a wine bar but especially one with fun snacks and people. We went by after work and were met with a warm inside and gorgeous back patio. I chatted with the front of house staff and got to enjoy hearing about the last 20+ years he's spent in SF. Their wine selection was robust, and the spritz that boasted "better than an aperol spritz" absolutely followed through. At the end of the evening, we took a bottle of wine to go because the 50% off deal was too good to pass up. I can't wait to go back!

Orange wine, pistachio dip

Birba is great because it's a great place to take friends if you want to impress them with how chic but also chill you are. You know, showing others that you are the staple Californian. The folks here know their wines and will help you explore their selection. My friend was able to taste an interesting red and a sherry, and I got an orange wine because I am basic. Both choices were encouraged by our welcoming server :-) The food here will also fill you up if you let it. We kept the tapas coming and eventually were too full for dinner. Highly recommend the pistachio dip and the jalapeño poppers. I'll keep coming here to feel cool and bringing people here to look cool, obviously !!!!!!

Located in the legendary Mission District of San Francisco, this wine bar is a great spot to catch up with friends and enjoy small bites and yummy crafted cocktails. Their decor is very chic and I especially loved all of the hardware, glasses, tables, and benches. This place was styled by a great design artist. Even though the place was pretty packed and can be kind of noisy, I still felt very calm amongst all the healthy plants and loved the sophisticated 70s inspired glassware. Another great feature of this place is that you can buy most of the plants because they have some for sale so after a couple of cocktails, I was ready to redecorate my whole house with all the plants. I ordered a yummy Rose blend that was super crisp. Also enjoyed the Truffle Fungi! A delicious Shiitake and oyster mushrooms with parmesan and arugula on toasted bread. Their Spanish inspired potatoes were delicious with their dipping sauce. They have lots of gatherings there and DJ sets on the weekends. Lastly, a photographer would die to take pictures here. There is no bad shot as the design artist made sure every section of this cute wine bar was picture perfect. Loved all my photos and videos. I look forward to returning to this exquisite wine bar!

Charging the $10 event fee on discretion before the posted event start time seems... shady? illegal? My two friends got in a few minutes before with no cover. I was dealing with a bike lock while they went in. We were not there for the event but rather as volunteers from the weekly cleanup refuse crew in the Mission. You get perks as a thank-you for doing your part in making the City a cleaner place. We had just had a lovely time at another participating business (Beehive) and planned on Arcana being our final stop. Thankfully I was able to use the restroom without a fee, with my gear held up outside by the security team. While waiting in the restroom line, I told a staff member about all this, and the worker seemingly went up to the front to find out what's going on. The line took a few minutes, my friends also bumped into me, and I told them I'd likely wait for them outside the business post-restroom while they finished their wine. Already reported to the Mayor's Office. Maybe I'll add BBB. Should be honest and equitable! Four out of 200+ reviews by me have been one star, so I rarely share negativity. It's all rather unfortunate as other visits here went off without an issue. I warned a group of four about all this while I waited out front, and after talking to the front door folks, they left and thanked me for the advice. Please be careful if you visit here. . . .

The people were laughing, the drinks were flowing. It smelled really good, which we would later find out was from the food especially that Mac and cheese. We started off with different wines, some that Tom recommended based on what we told him we didn't like or did like. He apologized for our previous experience and was genuinely a nice guy. Honestly it's very admirable for a business owner to take feedback to heart and want to incorporate it. Plus he's a really cool guy when you get to know him. The staff was busy running around but still made time to come check on us. Our final verdict is we came on a bad day. This time we got the actual Waystone experience. We finally got to try the chicken bites with a creamy aioli, fries with yogurt sauce, and the star of the show was the Mac and cheese. Tik tok did live up to the hype and we will have to come back for one of their jazz nights. Be warned this place gets busy! But it's worth it.

The energy is vibrant without feeling overwhelming, and the noise level is just right. It's quiet enough to have a conversation and get lost in your own thoughts, but not so quiet that you feel awkward sitting in silence. Plus, the people watching was pretty entertaining, which definitely added to the experience. The three of us only tried two different wines. My friend ordered a glass of Masha, while my other friend and I both ordered the Los Chuchaquis. The verdict: Masha was really good. Good enough that a second glass was ordered! As for the Los Chuchaquis, I personally didn't love it. I found it a little too tannic and bitter for my taste. If you have a low tolerance for bitterness, this might not be the wine for you. That said, my friend, who ordered the same wine, absolutely loved it and thought it was delicious. So maybe I just ordered the wrong wine for my palate? ‍ Either way, the wine is only part of the experience. The energy here is fantastic, the bartender was welcoming and friendly, and the crowd was cheerful without being obnoxious, which I really appreciate. I'm not usually much of a night person, but I genuinely had a great time. It was one of those evenings that reminded me how nice it is to get out, enjoy good company, and simply soak in the atmosphere. I'm really glad I took my friends up on their offer to go out. Definitely a 5 star experience for the atmosphere, the energy, and the overall vibe. This seems to be such an interesting neighborhood. I'd love to come back and wander around, explore more, and discover what else this part of the city has to offer.
