If you love plants you'll adore Arcana in San Francisco because it's a beautiful sanctuary of plants and cool vibes. Located in the legendary Mission District of San Francisco, this wine bar is a great spot to catch up with friends and enjoy small bites and yummy crafted cocktails. Their decor is very chic and I especially loved all of the hardware, glasses, tables, and benches. This place was styled by a great design artist. Even though the place was pretty packed and can be kind of noisy, I still felt very calm amongst all the healthy plants and loved the sophisticated 70s inspired glassware. Another great feature of this place is that you can buy most of the plants because they have some for sale so after a couple of cocktails, I was ready to redecorate my whole house with all the plants. I ordered a yummy Rose blend that was super crisp. Also enjoyed the Truffle Fungi! A delicious Shiitake and oyster mushrooms with parmesan and arugula on toasted bread. Their Spanish inspired potatoes were delicious with their dipping sauce. They have lots of gatherings there and DJ sets on the weekends. Lastly, a photographer would die to take pictures here. There is no bad shot as the design artist made sure every section of this cute wine bar was picture perfect. Loved all my photos and videos. Came here on a Saturday night after dinner for a girls night out. There is a cool photo booth outside, which was high-quality and even gave you a video of your session. I love the decor of this space! It is definitely intentionally and tastefully decorated. Loved the lighting and plants. They had Lord of the Rings playing on the wall. The vibe is artsy, warm, a little dark, and overall a cool place to mingle. The bathrooms and tables were kept clean. I liked it that the DJ was live mixing. Getting a drink was fast and easy. The high top tables were a bit wobbly, so we spilled half a drink on there. The drinks are strong. I recommend going upstairs to sit instead if you want to hear your friends better. My friends booked the upstairs area for their one year anniversary. Service was excellent. They were on top of cleaning up and refilling the food items if needed while manning the bar (or should I say "womanning"?) and helped us take photos. Variety of drinks and an assortment of vegan/vegetarian food options to choose from including vegetarian flatbreads, potatoes, and beet salads. I absolutely love this spot! I've gone here 2x - once in the day after a yoga class in the area, and from that point on, I knew I loved the spot. I had a lil solo date and ordered the wine and food, and it was so good!! I love the plants and lighting in here. It was also my first time ordering apricot wine! The second time I went was at night. It felt very intimate, and this time I ordered the Earl Grey cocktails instead of wine. This drink was one of the best drinks I've ever had. I believe it had sake in it, which is why I wanted to try it, and it was delicious, I got a second drink! I heard they brought this drink back, so defs give it a try before it potentially leaves the menu again! Another plus is that it's right next to Lolinda, an Argentinean steakhouse, so it's a great spot to go right after grabbing drinks. This is one of my go to spots in SF. The staff is knowledgeable and can guide you to the right glass to fit your palette. And they will let you sample a smidge before you commit to the pour. Also, Lina has mystique and is hot. Additionally, they have wine cocktails! I drank an earl grey sake thing and it was so good so I drank a lot of them until there were consequences. Also the security guy is really nice and listens to me when I get drunk and start freestyling (I have bars). Vibe can vary. There are always plants there, which we love, but the day time is super chill. You can grab a light bite (get the corn flatbread) and enjoy the natural lighting pouring in from the sky light. At night time, there's a DJ on weekends which of course leads to dancing which may lead to other shenanigans. You might see an ex, they might see you throwing that ass in a circle, who knows? Possibilities! Sometimes it's giving dancing, other times it's giving lounge. Check the DJ line up before you come. But do come. The only thing I would change would be for them to consider adding some loungey live music during the week for those more lowkey nights :) read more

Originally we weren't going to get food, but I was intrigued by the king trumpet mushrooms with whipped tahini and chili crisp and we ended up sharing that for a light app. Loved the mushrooms which were pretty cooked to be juicy and flavorful without being too salty. We checked out Arcana when we were last in SF. This place is hopping! Great service - the bartenders were all friendly. The limited late night menu is GREAT! Takes a minute for them to put it together but worth the wait and totally worth the price. We split a cheese and meat board, delish! We went on a Saturday night which rendered us to a table upstairs... worth it. Cozy and more intimate... easier to hear and converse with your friends. Drinks are strong. Ambiance is great... perfect vibe for a wide range of ages. We may be in our 40s but we didn't feel like the "old guys". It was worth a button-up and staying up past my bedtime! Inside, it is pretty dim but a good ambiance with decent seating and lots of greenery. Went in for happy hour with a friend, which is every day from 4 - 6 pm, where a few select wines are slightly cheaper when you get a glass. Blood Orange Spritz - I was looking for something more sweet in their cocktails and this one was perfect. It had a nice balance with the prosecco and the citrus flavor was rich with slight sourness. We couldn't find a seat on the lower level which was the more fun area so we went to the level up. They had a $20 wine flight option so we got that with a flat bread. We had never had orange wine before so got to try that with the flights. The wine choices were really good. We ended up getting another flight and flat bread. The food was good for the bar vibe but they ran out of potatoes. Eventually we did find a seat on the lower level while the live DJ was playing. I came here with a friend for dinner during restaurant week and got their dinner menu. The interior is very spacious and airy, and I loved the plants and warm tones of the space. The workers at the bar were very friendly and helped explain the set menu. It was $45 per person, and you could get a choice of ny beverage from the menu. I got a grapefruit wine spritz, which was tasty and refreshing. Everything else is served family style, and we got: -California cheeseboard: this was a nice starter, and my only wish is that there was a bit more bread - it was super fluffy and I loved the bits of lemon embedded into it. The cheese were nice and generously portioned, though it could've done with a little more fruit to balance things out. -Trumpet mushrooms w/whipped tahini: this was delicious and I'd definitely get this again! The mushrooms were so flavorful, and the herbs really tied the whole dish together. The whipped tahini was creamy and rich and perfectly coated the mushrooms. -Crispy roasted potatoes: this was good, but nothing special. -Spicy morel stracciatella flatbread: this was a little disappointing, I usually love straciatella, but I feel like this flatbread wasn't cohesive - it felt like the ingredients were just thrown on and it wasn't crispy or warm, and it felt a little lacking in flavor. -Pistachio olive oil cake: unfortunately this was not good. I was really excited for an olive oil cake, but this was super dense and almost tasted waxy and a little off. After dinner in the mission one night, we were trying to figure out where to go when someone in our group suggested Arcana. I'd heard it's a very cool spot with nice plants and wine so I agreed right away. As we were approaching, I heard pumping music filtering out through the open doors and was wondering what kind of spot we had picked. It's very dark and moody indoors, lots of plants which makes it quite pretty. There's a big bar on the first floor, and I believe another smaller one in the rooms upstairs. There are seats scattered everywhere but it was crowded when we got in so we ended up grabbing a seat outside which was also a nice respite from the volume. The wine and beer are expectedly on the pricier side, with a pretty large selection of natural wine as well. I had no idea what to order so just pointed at something on the menu. I'm not sure I made the best choice since the wine was kind of on the funky side but that could be just my poor understanding of wine. My friend said they came before at brunch and it was a lot more laid-back and chill. So I would recommend considering the vibe before you go since we were not quite in the dark club mood. read more

I organized a private event for my work team here in January 2024 and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We had lunch followed by a Moss Kokedama class, which was much harder than we anticipated, but still a lot of fun! This event cost us $75 per person for lunch and $75 per person for the class (not including service/tax), with a minimum of 10 people. They don't normally serve food during the day but opened up their kitchen just for our event. Naz was helpful in the lead up to the event. She was around to serve drinks, bring out the food, and answer questions during the event. The woman who led our class was great and had the right balance of letting us do the work but stepping in and helping when needed. When we arrived a little before 1pm, the Fern Bar (a private area upstairs) was beautifully set up for our group, the table laid out with plants and glassware, and a buffet lunch spread on a large table on the side. There was also a sitting area and coffee table, which served well for us to put our things down and also display our gifts as our team was doing a White Elephant. Plus, the overall space is gorgeous (I chose this place because I walked by one day and the design really struck me). There were a couple beers, a white, a red, and a surprisingly delicious coffee/cherry non-alcoholic bubbly wine. It was tart and refreshing, not too sweet, and the cherry wasn't too overpowering. The food was excellent. I was worried it wouldn't be very filling as it is an all-vegetarian kitchen, but everyone found it delicious. Looking back at the menu Naz had originally provided, we didn't get some things on the menu (Mazze, cheesboard, margherita pizza, dessert), but we did get a couple dishes that were not listed (potato balls, cauliflower) * Rosemary Focaccia - 4 stars Springy, soft, and herbacious. * Salad - 5 stars This was a persimmon radicchio burrata salad, and it had the perfect balance of ingredients and dressing. * Warm Naan & Spread - 4.5 stars The spread was an herbed labneh and that was delicious - thick and nicely seasoned. * Funghi arugula pizza - 4.5 stars I don't usually like pizza without red sauce but this was so nicely balanced that I found it delicious! * Pear pizza - I didn't try this, but my colleague did and said it was great. * Potato balls - 5 stars I forgot the name of this dish, but Naz told us it is a Persian recipe. It looked like falafel, but it was made of potato, and it was ever so slightly crisped on the outside, warm and moist on the inside.
