everytime i come back this place does not fail to amaze. first, all the bartenders are incredibly passionate, friendly, and welcoming. they each have their own specialty cocktail and a story to back them. ours on a particularly nice day offered his take on an espresso martini, and i haven't been able to drink another since. the definition of perfect. hanging from the ceiling are various concoctions that patrons can have displayed as their own piece in the puzzle. there are private nooks, high ceilings, a library of books, and great views of the bay. certainly the place to impress friends and family when around fort mason. read more

Be prepared for a perfect ambiance and cool atmosphere. Baristas are so busy! I walked in and took a seat at the bar. I waited and although I was first I was treated indifferently and looked at as if I couldn't be a customer there. I was dressed casually, and as other guests came they were offered a menu and orders were requested. The interval at Long Now has always caught my eye. For years we have been frequenting this spot and love how over time the surrounding Fort Mason has developed and evolved. Once upon a time they had a drink called the chartreuse swizzle, an amazing beverage crafted with expertise and flavor. It was a drink that had me interested in the world of unique craft cocktails and I was sad to see it go, but at the same time this menu is always evolving in the best of ways. The bartenders are always great at keeping the menu up to date and their concoctions never leave me wanting. The whimsy and vibes of the space tickles something in your mind that demands you stop, remove yourself from your digital pocket sized addiction and gaze into the greater world to reflect and observe. Pretty aesthetic and scientific-like bar in SF. A bit out of the way even though it is in SF near Fort Mason, as it can be 30+ minutes from downtown SF. However, the area is spacious and there is parking available for those that are driving in. I went here on a Wednesday 5pm which is when they opened due to a private event earlier in the day, and it was not too busy, but people started trickling in around 6pm. I got the Decanted Mother-In-Law and Oaxacan Old Fashioned, both of which were strong and delicious, with different spirits. I like the presentation of both, with the first one served in an apothecary bottle and the second one served in slanted ice for some nice aesthetics. Prices were pretty solid since the cost of the cocktail is $15 including tax, while most restaurants charge more plus tax on top. read more

Really cool and charming bar in the Fort Mason area of the Marina! This was a TikTok find, and it was pretty lively on a weekday night -- most of the bar seating and other seats were full. The design of the interior is really beautiful, with glasses adorning the ceiling, a metal globe, and a library nook upstairs (though that wasn't open to the public when we went). My friend and I both ordered cocktails, and though I can't remember the names, they were both quite tasty. One had citrus (grapefruit) notes with candied giner, and the other had some honey notes and a cinnamon stick. We found a cozy spot to chat, and the bartenders were also friendly when we ordered (and decently fast). The decor is really unique, filled with books and jugs of liquid. They become a bar at night, but you can order anything throughout the day. We stopped at The Interval At Long Now after a long walk through the city to cool off and wet our palettes. We hadn't been to Fort Mason before, but were glad to have known about this bar in advance as it was a bit hidden in the back of the complex. As soon as we walked in, we were impressed by the atmosphere. With books all around and steampunkesque decor throughout the bar and tables, this bar definitely has an eclectic yet calming atmosphere. I got the Paxton's Arrow while my partner got the I've Grown to Love Life Too Much. Although I was super excited by the combination green chile vodka, Ancho Reyes, and celery/green chile tincture, I found Paxton's Arrow to be a bit celery forward, and didn't think the drink came together quite as I was expecting. On the other hand, my partner and I both loved the I've Grown to Love Life Too Much two-part cocktail. Neither of us have had a two-part cocktail quite like this, and found that the cognac, spiced pear liqueur, and creme de cacao came together beautifully in the main drink, which was also washed down nicely with the dry champagne accompanying it. Sadly, we were not able to stay for another round, as the cocktail menu is quite interesting and varied. Needless to say, we will be back! read more

My date recently took me to The Interval and as a designer who loves unique and aesthetic spaces, I absolutely loved it. This bar is such a cool blend of a library, art, history, and chic design all in one. The attention to detail is gorgeous, and there's an amazing story behind the bar that is an intriguing read on their website. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and even though it was busy because of a nearby festival, there was plenty of free parking! The bar has indoor and outdoor seating. Since it was packed inside, we grabbed a spot outside, which had plenty of space and was great for chatting. Later, we moved inside, and it was lively and buzzing with energy. Just a heads-up, it can get a bit loud inside, so outside is better for conversation. The bartenders were super knowledgeable and recommended a Cab that we loved so much, we ended up having six glasses between the two of us (should have gotten a bottle lol) I also loved the ceiling filled with glass bottles of alcohol--it's so stunning. The upstairs wasn't open when we were there, so just note that it's not always available. But honestly, that didn't take away from the experience at all. The Interval is such a great spot for a date, and I can't wait to come back. read more

This was so so so good. Incredibly good. For *both* coffee and drinks. Came one day for coffee and ended up with a spectacular cappuccino and vanilla latte. So wonderful that we tried to go back again the next day but they were only open later afternoon. Tried a variety of drinks and loved them all, from the Gin Rickey (a 3 day affair) to the I've grown to love life too much (a Dostoevsky affair) and more. Both coffee and drinks service was lovely and helpful, and we even got into a fun long chat with the bartender Rick one evening. Classy looking bar with sophisticated cocktails. I love the architecture, decorative books, and the pretty spiral staircase though it doesn't go anywhere. There are a couple of small tables and a small room which could be for a private party, I'm not sure if they rent it out or it's first come first serve. The drinks here are very fancy, and they are known for interesting concoctions. My favorite is the Brush Fire which is a Hefeweizen beer with smoked pineapple, banana, cloves, and lemon. There is also a decent selection of teas and mocktails for people who aren't drinkers. Off the grid in Fort Mason is held every Friday night and it can get really busy. Boy, how naive am I? When I first heard of The Interval, I thought I had a nice little secret to myself. Granted, I discovered them via Yelp, which is where all secrets go to die, but it's not like this place is right smack in the middle of the Mission or Marina. Rather, it seemed like it might be a perfectly hidden gem inside of Fort Mason. However, based on the crowds, we encountered? Like I said...naive. Stepping inside The Interval, I immediately loved the cozy, library-esque vibe they have going on. There's a handful of tables sprinkled about, for parties both large and small, and a bar that's literally covered with bulbs of various liquors and spirits. However, the most impressive thing about The Interval has got to be their drink menu. To say that it has been carefully crafted is more than just to play up the double meaning. The nearly two dozen cocktails you'll find have earned their place for a reason - menu staples from they first opened, cocktails from years past that are back in the rotation, what were temporary offerings that have now become fixtures, and personal creations from each individual bartender. In short? An eclectic mix for every taste and flavor! While there were a few choices that caught my eye, the one that I was most curious about trying was the FISH HOUSE PUNCH (Jamaican Rum, Armagnac, Apricot Brandy, Lemon & Orange Oleo, Pineapple Gum, Served Over Ice...$16). Between the rum and the pineapple, this has a decidedly island tilt that I loved. Perhaps most surprisingly, given the Armagnac and apricot brandy, this didn't taste abrasively sweet either, like I feared it would. FWIW, my gf's non-alcoholic drink was tasty, too, though I don't recall which one she got, and her friend also enjoyed the two drinks he tried. In addition to our drinks, we also ended up getting a couple of The Interval's small bites to try - their BABY SARDINES IN OLIVE OIL ($11) and their TRUFFLE POTATO CHIPS ($4). The Baby Sardines were pretty solid (it comes in a can with a good amount of fish), but the Truffle Potato Chips were awesome! The chips weren't overly salted and had a good amount of truffle flavor to them (but not overly so). If you're not in the mood for cocktails (or mocktails), The Interval also has a ridiculous amount of spirits to choose from (almost 200?), as well as an assortment of wines and beers. They also have a mix of coffees and teas as well, which is perfect for hanging out at Fort Mason during the day time, but I will definitely be back, as The Interval is a great landing spot for pre- or post-dinner drinks. I visited recently after the pumpkin patch event & Off the Grid, for cocktails. It's a beautiful space with soft, sexy lighting (which makes everyone look good). I snagged two seats at the end of the bar when a nice couple was leaving & offered up their seats when I approached the bar. They have a nice variety of beer, wine & craft cocktails. Our mixologist reminded me of a chemist with flair, as she measured and poured different ingredients together and used a thermometer to reach the appropriate temperature for the cocktails. First time that I've ever seen that. My friend had the Navy Gimlet & I had the Three World Title cocktail. Our cocktails were strong & tasty and very unique! Very friendly & helpful staff. read more

I've been meaning to come here for a while but just never got around to it--the location is prime with great views, but it's slightly out-of-the-way! It's is a unique library bar and coffee shop at Fort Mason., very close to the Farmer's Market here on weekends. They have an extensive book menu with cool cocktail names and a casual but bookish, cool academic vibe. I love the books lining the walls, the gears under the glass table, the windy staircase (blocked unless you belong to the library), globe, and cool art. I got a mocha and gruyere pretzel bun which were both delicious, and camped out to write and do work. There were a quite a few others working and chilling inside, and there's also parklets outside. I think some companies also had some offsites there at the time in the back. Service was friendly. I'll be back for sure and will bring and tell others :) read more

Tried it. Loved it. Just as it describes itself, a place for thought-provoking conversations and consideration of our future. And cocktails. Its decor is in tune with the intention, there's a floor-to-ceiling library of the books you might need to rebuild civilization, (no you can't touch them) and prototypes for a clock meant to last for 10,000 years. Think cyberpunk meets dining table. I was especially taken with the lighting above the bar; chem-lab style beakers hang from a fixture overhead. OK technically I think they are "flat bottom boiling flasks" but the spherical glass containers you see evil inventors surrounded by in the movies. Each beaker has a different liquid, some clear, some amber in color. Turns out if you're a big sponsor, you get to have your own personal bottle storage and that's where they keep them. The cocktail menu is ample and well thought-out. Bartenders were fast and courteous. Overall a great hang. One area of cognitive dissonance was the varying clientele. Like the article you read where an extra in a Trojan war film is seen sporting a wristwatch, some of the patrons looked like they fell out of the Bus Stop bar: backward caps, hoodies, and cargo shorts. But while the Interval is next to Greens, a breakthrough restaurant that permanently changed food culture, it also is adjacent to the Marina, so you're likely to see a mixture of denizens. Focus on the view, decor, and your tipple and you'll be fine. read more

We've been here a few times, usually on a Friday after having dinner at Off the Grid Fort Mason. The last time we made a special trip here coz traffic on the Bay Bridge was horrendous, so we waited it out a little bit here after dinner. All the books upstairs and downstairs are books that humans will need to survive a catastrophic event, in case you're wondering. Been vacationing in the Marina area for years now, and just barely discovered this place. Was here for a girl's weekend and a friend found this place on Yelp. We came after lunch at about 1pm and it was quiet. Most had their laptops and were doing work. My friend and I were at the bar jibber jabbering. Steven was the bartender and not only was he a great mixologist, but he had really good recommendations. This is one of those kinds of places where you want to try their specialty drinks. Don't do your usual stuff. I am picky and only like drinks served up so Steven asked me a few questions before making a recommendation. We had three drinks each, a cookie and beef jerky before leaving. Parking is easy and there's plenty. Park, use the machine and grab your receipt. FYI, parking machine says to add your cell so they can forewarn you 15 minutes before your time ends; that DOES NOT WORK. Make sure you keep an eye on the time which we did. The Interval at Long Now reminds me of bars in Oslo. We were there after dinner for drinks but I heard they serve coffee earlier in the day. The space is very cool. You order at the bar and they have various places to sit. I had a hard time deciding which drink to get because the menu is intriguing. They also have hot tea if you don't want to drink and it's presentation was beautiful. This was one of the first places I went to when the city first started checking vaccination status and they had a guy at the front to check everyone's cards. I felt really safe inside. read more
