    Almost Paradise

This place is a great vibe for 11:30 PM on a Saturday night! I really liked the almost paradise drink - it tasted just like candy! Good vibrations drink was also very tasty. It was a little loud to hear the rest of the table, but perhaps that's because we were in the corner right by the speaker. Would love to go again to try more creative drinks

Cool cocktail bar with friendly service! Liked that they really leaned into the vinyl/record theme and all of the cocktails were the names of songs. The menu covered a good variety of liquors, and had beer and wine as well. There's a small food menu with some snack and fried options. There's a decent amount of seating, though it is a smaller space, so it's better for a smallish group. There were a couple larger parties while we were in so it was pretty loud and hard to hear over everyone.

Sleek retro feel they have tasty chicken nuggets and their drinks...well their drinks give you a reason to drink. Each cocktail not only highlights the main liquor, yet dance with it to give you a "you haven't had it prepared correctly" moment. While their warm and personal service is a whole reason to come back; their drinks and chicken nuggets have me in a chokehold. Come here if you are tired of overpriced and basic drinks in this zip code, you'll get a lot of relief. They play records in the bar and it's always intimately lit making it the perfect start to date night.

I came here for my friend's birthday during the summer, and we got the entire back room to ourselves. We arrived early on a weekday, so it was a nice and relaxing environment compared to the weekend chaos. Only one bartender was at the front counter taking care of us all, and he were very attentive and on top of it. We ordered multiple rounds of snacks to go with our cocktails, and while not amazing, they satisfied the munchies since it was around dinner time.

Good vibes and crowd in this bar. loved the superfly but didn't like the nights on broadway drink. bartender was nice enough to remake my drink though despite it being busy, so great service!

Stopped in for a couple drinks before dinner and loved this spot! The retro vibes and cute décor make it such a fun place to hang out. Drinks were delicious and well-balanced, and the bartender was super friendly and welcoming. Perfect spot to grab cocktails with friends or for a cozy date night.

Came here for the first time and got the "Reminiscing" and "The Heat Is On" drink. There is bar seating and some seatings along the wall. The service was quick and the drinks were pretty good. There was 2 restrooms and they were very clean. Water was self serve. Street parking.

I've always had a good night when I've stopped by For The Record. They not only have a great selection of cocktails already, but if you ask the bartenders for their recommendations or something off menu, they will put in the time to make you something great. I've also had some of the food and the Mozzarella Sticks and Fries are perfect when paired with a solid drink. They also do have some great music no matter the night so what're you waiting for!?

A cute and cozy bar with a friendly bartender. I got the Escape, which is made with a rum blend, pineapple, whipped coconut clarified pina colada. The clarification improved the texture, enhanced the flavors, gave it a crystal clear look, and had a smoother and softer taste!

Cool vibes inside! They had a band playing live music and they were great. The bartender was very friendly and cocktails are $15 which is pretty reasonable for SF. I got the strawberry fields forever drink which was actually pretty strong compared to my friends' drinks that I tried. I would recommend the paradise drink or the reminiscing one!

Cozy neighborhood bar in the Marina. Live music is solid, but sometimes a bit too loud for conversation. The bartender Esau was super friendly. There are two areas, which is nice if you want a quieter or more private spot. Also, the bathroom is actually really nice with great decor.

Really cute cocktail bar in the marina. The drinks are on the pricier side but not crazy for the area and really delicious! They play good music and the bartenders are quick. It's also not as crazy as a typical marina bar. I'll definitely be back!

Spoiler alert: We love For the Record. If you're reading this, just go there and try it! We tried For the Record during our first romp of the Marina. As somewhat San Francisco newbies, we felt a bit out of place in the Marina amongst all the well-dressed and nicely groomed denizens, while we're more used to the ragtag, riffraff of our native Richmond. Nonetheless, we immediately felt at home walking into the swanky vibes of For the Record. On our first visit we tried the Blackberry Beret and Lovely Day, as well as the Brandy You're a Fine Girl and Intimate Friends. We loved all of the drinks but particularly loved the Intimate Friends, which had a nice herbaceous flavor with a nice punch from the absinthe rinse. On our second time back, we tried the play on the Pina Colada (forgetting the name), and got another round of the Intimate Friends. We didn't realize the cocktail menu changes seasonally, so we're looking forward to checking out the fall cocktails!

    Every cocktail was delicious

It was kind of strange but I overlooked it. So we got a proper table and our menus and yet, even though there was only one other couple sitting in the back, it took forever for our server to help us. When he finally came back to take our order, we ended up giving him our entire order for drinks, apps and food cause we were starving (he didn't come to take our order until 30-40 min after we sat down). Then when the food came, it didn't come coursed out at all. The mains came before the shared appetizers. The oysters came out midway through our meal. It was all just kind of a mess. I ordered a burger medium and it was mostly pink through the entire burger and had little to no salt in it - there was no flavor! The fries I asked for crispy and they were just not soggy but hardly crisped. All around, the food was lackluster and the service was disappointing.

It's definitely on the expensive side, and the portions are on the smaller side, but every dish is incredibly creative, fresh, and packed with flavor. If you're looking for a place that feels clean and healthy without sacrificing taste, this is one of my favorites. I find myself craving it, especially for dinner. One thing that can be a little confusing is the hours. They often leave the door open, and because there's so much foot traffic, it's hard to tell whether they're actually open. I've definitely been the person peeking in to ask. They serve lunch on certain days, but they seem to be primarily a dinner spot. The biggest downside is the service. Unfortunately, it's been consistently underwhelming across all three visits, even with different servers. I've found the staff to be pretty dismissive, which makes me think it's more of the standard experience than just a one off. Because of that, I don't really dine in anymore. Instead, I usually order takeout and enjoy it outside. The food is absolutely worth it, even if the service isn't. If the quality of the food weren't this exceptional, I probably wouldn't have returned after my first visit. But it's honestly that good, and that's why I keep coming back.

Each dish was visually stunning and carefully prepared. We tried many smaller dishes, tapas style. Some of the standouts were tandoori avocado with dosa crisp, baingan bharta cornetto, shiso chaat, passionfruit pani puri, pyaaz kachori, carrot halwa pave. The person who states "This is most likely the best restaurant in the world" has to be beyond sheltered; It's not even the best restaurant in the _neighborhood_. The main thing you must understand: the food is "inspired" by Indian food, but it does _not_ taste like Indian food. I suspect its been intentionally watered down to be palatable to milquetoast palettes. We ordered three small plates and the butter chicken as the main. Chicken Tikka Taco. This was greasy to the touch, with chicken and cheese. The dominate flavor is the cheddar cheese. They were trying to be creative but the ultimate effect was similar to a frozen burrito with cheddar cheese and chile verde. If you eat this, close your eyes and imagine a microwaved, frozen burrito..you'll see what I mean. Tandoori Avocado. This features an avocado that's been warmed and covered in a chili sauce. There's a green hummus and a fried dosa crisp. While it sounds wild, once the flavors are mixed together on the plate...the overall effect is that of a green-goddess salad. It's not bad, but its not mind bending. Octopus Xec Xec. The octopous was was cooked nicely and there was a tomato based sauce. Unlike something you'd find in India, it is _not_ heavy on the spices, or tang, or nuttiness. It's just very _neutral_. Butter Chicken. This was the biggest disappointment. I've never had a butter chicken curry that tasted so close to tomato soup in my life. I've eaten tons of butter chicken in my life, hundreds of Indian restaurants. I cannot imagine this was not an intentional choice...It was extremely disappointing. Also, the choice to use chicken breast was poor. Inevitably you get overcooked, chewy chicken pieces. They must have chosen this because (like Disneyland) sometimes you water things down to make it more popular with less adventurous people. The customers next to us (not Indian) kept slathering it on their rice and saying "I can't believe I didn't use to like Indian food!" -- that told me all I needed to know. BTW the naan is insanely bad. They stretched it very thin and then crisped it to the point that it breaks like a cracker. In what world is naan not pillowy and soft? Personally, I was really disappointed with this experience -- the other reviews on yelp are absolute insanity IMO. I know there's a hype train right now -- but someday people will realize this place is not it.
