Was really hoping to like this place but the fuss is just too not that good. Ordered: * Dips: hummus, baba ganoush, labneh with z'atar seasoned pita * Watermelon, black olive tapanade and feta salad with everything crunch * Latkas Labneh was standard. The hummus and baba were too salty (plus the salt from the pita). Love the combo of watermelon, feta and black olive, and it was presented originally as blocks, but it was drowned in oil and for 8 chunks of watermelon, I need maybe one chunk of feta, not 4, and I couldn't really taste the olive tapenade. Latkas were okay but seemed refried, as the bottoms were hard, and somehow it was reminiscent of the flavor of the box mix potato pancakes my Mom used to make (not a huge fan). Saw the sandos and it looks like the meat is thicker cut than the thinly sliced east coast deli sandwiches that I prefer. The drink menu looks interesting, so I might return for that. read more

I got the pastrami on rye here and thought the rye bread was good and had a strong flavor. However the pastrami was not tender or sliced thin enough and I could not bite through the meat without pulling out big chunks from the sandwich. The flavor of the pastrami is fine. When we sat down, there was a couple with a big dog blocking the way to get in. No one's fault-just pointing it out as super cozy seating. We ordered the latkes to share. I had the arugula salad. He had the pastrami sandwich for one. The latkes were little hash brown squares. They were tasty, but didn't give the greasy potato flavor or smell of Jewish comfort. They were more like hash brown blocks. The arugula salad didn't have enough flavor, but it was filling. He loved the pastrami with toasted bread and just the right amount of mustard. I am surprised this place doesn't have more stars. Parking is definitely horrible as it is anywhere in the Marina, but the inside is cute and they had a lot of seating. We stopped into this restaurant today for an early dinner/late lunch and had an overall good experience. We shared the dips, ordered multiple matzo ball soups, and had the latke. The matzo ball soup was very fresh and comforting, and the dips were flavorful and enjoyable. The latkes were decent, though after eating many latkes over Hanukkah, I'd personally rate them a B-. They didn't taste quite as fresh as I prefer, and the sauce was a bit skimpy. That said, I appreciated that they were served in a classic, at-home style with crème fraîche and caviar--exactly how I would make them myself, just a little more generously. Service was fine, and the food came out very quickly. We didn't order drinks since we're not drinkers, but when we walked by later, the place was packed and had a great vibe. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and it definitely feels like a positive addition to the neighborhood. The concept and ideas are strong, and I hope they continue to refine and settle into their rhythm. In a new Marina/Cow Hollow spot like this, it would have been nice to meet the owner or have someone stop by the table to say hello, but overall it's a place I'd be happy to revisit. I will give a four for now and hope they can freshen up the menu, maybe take a page from Orens or Hummus Bodega the reigning champions of Jewish foods in SF. I wish them the best of luck! read more

Very small, very loud, interesting use of space. Supposed to be a deli with a full bar. More like a bar with noshes. Clever use of names for cocktails and sandwiches. One would think that things like matzo ball soup and latkes would be stellar. The soup was tepid. Never been served soup not hot. Chicken broth was tasty. Matzo balls were fluffy and tasteless. It was a very small serving for the price. Was really cup of soup, not a bowl. Latkes tasted reheated from frozen with scant toppings. They were the size of silver dollar pancakes. Disappointing for Chanukah. The hot dog was a hot dog and pickle on a plate. Period. No slaw, no fries, no potato salad. There was nothing special about the fatuoche salad. Disappointed in lack of imagination. Even though we had a reservation we had to eat in half an hour as there next reservation was books got that long later. What about us? No heaters outside. The first time we tried going here, they unfortunately ran out of pastrami (it was a late reservation so I don't blame them at all.) This time we made a reservation for a weekend morning to start our day off with some jewish deli classics. Staff was attentive and very accommodating, as I asked for mustard on the side and no fish roe on the latkes which they did without hesitation. That was much appreciated! Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I actually liked the reuben a lot better than the pastrami sandwich. Just better texture and flavor profile all around. But the all-star of the meal was the chocolate cake. So divine and indulgent! Reminded me of the iconic one from Matilda. It's a cute cozy spot with limited seating inside (3 tables, a high top and counter seating) and outdoor seating + a covered parklet. I definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. It's easy to make one ahead of time through Open Table. As I was waiting to check in with the host at the stand, I overheard them having to turn away a party without a reservation. I picked a counter seat on my res since I only came with a party of 2. The cocktail menu is so fun! I'm not a big drinker but there were so many drinks I wanted to try. I ended up picking the Borscht cocktail and it was delicious. It had that earthy beet flavor with some sweetness. My friend had the pickle michelada which was made with pickle beer, it was very pickley. For food, we shared the latkes, the pastrami on rye, the house made bagel with lox, and a slide of chocolate cake. Everything was delicious! We especially enjoyed the latkes, the pastrami and the cake. The latkes were nice and crispy, they went well with the apple sauce and sour cream. The pastrami was tender and flavorful. What a vibe! I came here on Saturday with Kylie and Bobby. There were a few people outside and some other joined when we were eating but it was quite low key. The food was delicious. Matt helped us during our meal and he even let me try the pastrami before choosing because I always get confused between pastrami and corned beef. While there is no GF bread, we all still shared the latkes, Cole slaw, and potatoes. Loved the Sando but the matzah ball soup has nothing on my grandma Judy's. First weekend of operation! We decided to check out the latest restaurant opening in our neighborhood as a last minute decision but went early around 5PM on a Saturday & were able to snag a spot at their communal table. I would recommend making reservations as they are very popular & it is a small restaurant. I had the egg cream cocktail to start & it tasted as an egg cream should & I couldn't taste the alcohol but I felt the buzz because I had an empty stomach. The sofa water is poured table side so the egg cream puffs up above the rim of the glass. It's garnished with 3 chocolate boba too. Very tasty cocktail. Being a native New Yorker, I'm familiar with Jewish delis. The latkes were pretty good & the salmon roe added the perfect amount of salt to the dish. The matzoh ball soup was delicious but the matzoh balls were a little more dense than I was accustomed to but still good. The watermelon salad was interesting because the feta cubes were as large as the watermelon cubes so we had a lot of cheese leftover. I was very intrigued by the concept and excited to check this place out. We came on a Friday at 5:30ish for a 5:45 reservation and were seated right away. The space is TINY but very cute. Our game plan here was pre-dinner drinks and apps. We got the matzah ball marg and borscht cocktail for round one, along with the za'atar chips, WAICL (chicken liver mousse on rye), and latkes. The beverage program is one of the most unique I've seen and both drinks were outstanding - very well balanced. The latkes were a must order! Super Mensch is the real deal. Food delivers across the board, service was stellar, and it's such a nice vibe w the new. The latkes were varsity level! Crisp on the outside, soft inside, with house creme fraiche, salmon roe, and apple butter. Easily one of the best bites of the day. (Plus, latkes are square in 2025, who woulda thought?!) House-made bagel with lox was pulled off flawlessly. Bagel was dense and chewy (which I love), silky salmon, capers, onion, dill. Was really impressed they make a bagel of that caliber. We did the 5 dip platter: Hummus, roasted eggplant, cucumber labneh, honey bell pepper, and this incredible schug (I knew it as Zhoug). Warm sesame pita to scoop it all up. I came blinking out from the lower light of the Presidio Theatre, post-movie and starving, convinced I was going to go to an Italian restaurant I'd looked up before going to the movie theater, but walked past Super Mensch, and doubled back and immediately changed my mind and decided that that's where I needed to eat. It was early enough on a weekend evening that not having a reservation wasn't to my detriment, and the hostess quickly seated me. I was not disappointed in my choice. First of all, my server was top notch. Also it wasn't a problem to sub the meat in the reuben from corned beef to turkey (a situation I vastly prefer) and they had some nice options for non-alcoholic cocktails. But also, they had seating at the window that allowed me to switch between my novel and the view in front of me, while waiting for my sandwich (not a long wait). The black cardamom collins (non-alcoholic) was refreshing, and the (turkey) reuben was piled so high I was reminded (showing my age here, I know) of the sandwich in the Dagwood comic. Well, maybe not that big, since I did rise to the challenge of biting into it - and it was delicious. Went on an impromptu date night with the wifey, and absolutely loved it! The hosts and servers were wonderful; they were personable, attentive, and (above all) witty! Their service, while extremely accommodating, has the perfect level of snark/sarcasm that one would come to expect from a Jewish style deli (the way a sibling or a cousin would joke around with you). On top of that, the food and drinks were delicious. For nosh, we split the latkes (which were so good, we took an order to go), I got the Reuben, my wife got the matzah ball soup (which was served with TWO matzah balls IYKYK), but none of that compared to the Goliath that was there chocolate cake slice. It was rich, creamy, moist, and EVERYTHING you'd ever want/need a chocolate cake to be. For drinks we got the Borscht Cocktail, the Matzah Ball Margarita, and the Black and White Martini. Truly, a very normal restaurant experience with a huge bummer at the end. Strap in. The space? Small. A few tables inside, a few outside, bathroom is directly across from the very small kitchen and a server is always standing in front of it. No biggie (literally) but worth noting, not made for large groups. The service? The bad: I made a reservation for their first brunch service to be seated at the time they opened. We decided on latkes for the table and then we'd try most of the brunch menu - the pastrami, egg, and cheese sandwich, the challah French toast, and the yogurt parfait. The server informed us that they were out of all of the brunch items on the menu. In the first seating of their first brunch service. They told us later that they're still figuring out where to do the egg preparation - to be fair, it's a tiny kitchen, like apartment-kitchen-sized with multiple people in it - but maybe this is something to figure out before you start service. So I got a pastrami on rye, one kid had the latkes, and one decided to wait to go to the French bakery down the street afterward. The pastrami was good but tiny (see picture with quarter for scale) and the bread broke down almost immediately, so I was mopping up bits of food with my fingers. The latkes were good, also small, and it came with less than a spoonful of applesauce. We were seated in a booth by the kitchen and there was a *lot* of smoke, enough that everyone had to go outside to rest their eyes a bit. I assume it's from frying latkes? I can't imagine what that's like in the kitchen itself. They really need to fix their ventilation. In summary, there are pieces of the experience that look promising, and maybe at some point they'll be able to deliver on that. I might give them another try in a few months. I might not. read more

Firstly, despite a limited menu, they did not have the turkey or the vegetarian sandwich - at lunchtime with near-empty tables. For folks who don't eat red meat that pretty much just left things like appetizers and soup. One of us went for a Reuben sandwich, which they described as "tasteless". They needed a pile of mustard to make it worth eating. The other went for the Super Mensh take on an elevated latke, which fell short of local traditional options, and what was a very disappointing matzoh ball soup. I'll be curious to see what the next restaurant to occupy this space is like. read more

This tiny place is not even in the same universe as Katz in NYC or Langers in LA. That by itself would not be disqualifying but what actually is are the prices: $59 for their small pastrami sandwich (not the larger more expensive one), a Diet Coke in the can and a piece of chocolate cake + tip, I could not believe it. My goodness. This is the epitome of what I despise about the Bay Area. I absolutely love 2nd ave deli in New York. I absolutely love katz. I absolutely love langers. Take the posters of these establishments off your wall. I get it. This is not supposed to be your traditional Jewish deli. But what it wants to be it isn't. Drinks were great. Appetizers were good. The pastrami was absolutely garbage. I'd say 95% of the "meat" was fat. Just complete white strips throughout. Inedible. And the rye completely broke apart. Completely disappointed. And the price? The pastrami itself was greasy, which I found really strange. I typically ask for the fatty cuts when I eat pastrami, but this was just too much of that. Super delicious would definitely recommend! The city's been long overdue for a Jewish American restaurant. We went for the dips, latkes, and watermelon salad. For splitting it was a really good balance and decent portions. The menu is not overwhelming and has all of the go-to basic dishes. I wouldn't say it's comparable to a "New York style," it's definitely a California take on the classics and would have that expectation going here. Rounding up a bit. I have been waiting for months for Super Mensch to open. I couldn't wait to try their whitefish, rye, and chocolate cake. I guess they may still be ironing out their kinks, but I worry there may be some fundamental issues that will make it tough for Super Mensch to succeed. The kitchen is extremely small, yet they have a lot of menu items. I just don't know how they're going to do these many items justice in such a small space. They were out of the whitefish and pastrami when we came here, so my husband and I both ordered the bagel with lox. The bagel was a huge disappointment. It was hard and my jaws hurt after eating it. The Bay Area has so many great bagel places now (Hella Bagels, Bones Bagels, Chicken Dog Bagels) and I believe we are becoming accustomed to naturally leavened bagels. The bagel at SuperMensch didn't taste naturally leavened and it just didn't stack up to these other places. The lox was delicious. The cream cheese wasn't like Philadelphia style, it was more like a whipped cream cheese. Service and ambiance were excellent. And the drip coffee was excellent. The devil's food cake was an exciting experience: the grandiose cake is set in front of the restaurant, giving definite Bruce Bogtrotter vibes. It is a decent cake, a bit monotone in flavor but not too sweet which I appreciate. I still plan to come back here, because I still want to try the latkes, whitefish, and pastrami on rye. I hope they make some changes like winnowing down the number of items on the menu. No shame in being a place that serves five outstanding dishes plus a dessert. read more

Just had dinner there tonight, and loved it. To be clear, this is not a Jewish deli like Katz's or Saul's. This is a small cafe/bistro with a Jewish inspired menu, with interesting takes on Jewish classics and new things to try. We opted for a lot of small plates sharing the crudo of the day, the latkes, some of the roasted vegetables and matzo-ball soup. We each had a glass of white wine and it was the perfect meal. Everything was fabulous, unique and tasty. Both the space and menu are small, but makes it feel cozy and special. Totally recommend checking this place out. read more

The pastrami on rye was delicious and same with the watermelon/feta. And love the cute Jewish food-themed drinks with quirky names! Can't wait to go back and try the latkes and matzah ball soup! read more
