Tasting menus are a dime a dozen in SF, home of more Michelin-rated restaurants than any other on the West Coast. However, as a vegan, the number of veggie-friendly tasting menus dwindles down really quickly. Many do offer vegetarian menus, but to make it completely vegan requires further modifications. If I'm spending a few hundred dollars per person on a meal, this doesn't make me feel too confident that I will get the most out of my money. Tiya obviously gets this and provides a one-of-a-kind, fully veganized tasting menu that is worth every dollar! Of course, this makes a lot of sense as Indian cultures tend to have very diverse diets. For their tasting menus, Tiya offers their traditional menu (meat & dairy ok), one for pescatarians (no red meat), vegetarian (dairy ok), and vegan (no meat/fish/dairy/eggs). It is 7 courses, with an optional 8th with an added fee (which I did). Everything is an explosion of flavor! We started off with this trio of canapes, and those had to be some of the best small bites I've had in any restaurant. We went through course after course, highlighting traditional Indian ingredients but cooked and presented in a modern and elevated way. Loved the mushroom Momo and the Edamame & peas skewer. We ended with a dessert of coconut payasam and a few bite-sized sweet treats. I also opted for the wine pairing, and they did an incredible job matching and blending wine flavors to the dishes. Not only is the food incredible, but the restaurant itself is beautiful and elegant. It has rich, warm colors throughout and makes you feel royal but comfortable. Service is very attentive, and we felt very taken care of. They brought out a candle and a card for me at the end to celebrate my birthday! A very nice and memorable gesture. Overall, I had a spectacular meal from start to finish, and I highly recommend Tiya to anyone looking for a fine dining tasting experience that is vegan-friendly!

I was disappointed with our birthday experience at Tiya last week. I had such high hopes for this restaurant--it had been on my list to try for a long time. I made an early 6 p.m. reservation for a Thursday night and noted that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived, the host at the entrance acknowledged it and said, "Oh, you're celebrating a birthday," which made us hopeful for a special evening. We were seated in the front by the bar. Service was attentive, with multiple staff members each handling different roles--a water person, food runners, our main server, and even someone who came by just to close the blinds behind me. That level of coordination isn't surprising for a Michelin-recognized restaurant. We asked for suggestions from the à la carte menu and started with drinks. My gin and tonic was mostly ice and bitters with a splash of gin--more like a light summer refresher than a proper cocktail, which felt disappointing at $21. My partner ordered a beer, and the glass it was poured into had something questionable in it. The food runner didn't see anything and almost laughed. For food, we began with the pea "kebab" and the chicken tacos. The kebab turned out to be more like a curry patty topped with green sprouts and an edible flower. It was pretty, but definitely not what I expected from something described as a kebab. Next we shared the paneer and the dumplings. The paneer, listed as a "large plate," unfortunately tasted like dish soap. It was not at all what we had hoped for and left such a bad taste that we had to send it back just to clear our palates. To their credit, someone did come by to apologize. After that experience we decided to skip dessert and end the meal early. There was no further acknowledgment of the birthday, which felt like a missed opportunity given that it had been noted in the reservation and mentioned when we arrived. Overall, it was a bummer of an evening. Reading other Yelp reviews afterward, our experience unfortunately seems to line up with some of the same issues others mentioned.

10/10 food and dining experience! We got a last minute 9:30 reservation for 4 on a Friday night. We got a round of cocktails that were all incredible! Special mention to the mission district cocktail and Japan town! I don't like whiskey usually but was pleasantly surprised with their take on a hi ball. For vegetarians, I got the jack fruit tacos which were INCREDIBLE. Would come back just for that! I also got the main paneer dish which was super unique and yummy. Overall I had the best meal and will be back for sure!

Tiya is green, elegant, and modern. The bar and wall decorations are gorgeous, and even the scented soap in the restrooms left an impression. But even more memorable were the delightfully creative plates of new Indian food, all served family style and perfect for sharing. For our small plates, the Cauliflower Pakoda were breaded cauliflower florets, colorfully plated with yogurt, chutneys, and pickled vegetables. The Tandoori Avocado was a Californian-influenced half avocado roasted with spices in a tandoor oven, served over green chickpea hummus and with a rolled dosa crisp. The Lamb Keema was a mixture of spiced ground lamb and peas, topped with a poached egg and crispy shredded potato, served with masala babka, a light and soft bread loaf layered with swirls of spices. While the small plates made for tasty appetizers, I was an even bigger fan of the large plates. The Roasted Squash & Potato Dumplings came with two hard and crispy fritters made of squash and potato, served over a green saag (pureed spinach) gravy, topped with carrot chutney and lotus crisp. The Sach Paneer Pollichathu was made of layered sheets of paneer, cooked in a banana leaf and topped with Malabar curry. Both of these vegetarian dishes were on the mild side, and my favorite component was the addictively creamy coconut Malabar curry. The non-vegetarian mains were even more delicious. The Bhekti Paturi was a beautifully presented barramundi fillet served over a rice cake and paired with a creamy, mild Bengal mustard curry. The most substantial dish was the Lamb Shank Roast, a whole tender braised lamb shank served over spiced biryani rice mixed with caramelized onions, cashews, chilies, and dried fruit, all topped with a nihari bone marrow sauce, which added a deep, decadent, unctuous flavor and texture to the rice. Finally, my personal favorite (and a crowd pleaser) dish was the Butter Chicken, made of tender, juicy, smokey, boneless chunks of tandoori chicken in an unbelievably smooth and silky tomato cashew smoked red pepper makhani sauce. The sauces in the dishes paired perfectly with the sides of Naan and Laccha Roti, a flaky layered flatbread that soaked up the curries nicely! Finally, the Doodh Jalebi was a lightly sweet dessert made of panna cotta, topped with a sweet and crunchy jalebi, topped with cardamom ice cream, and served with saffron milk, which brought the components together. Overall, this was an incredible meal, and every dish was flavorful and artfully presented. The refined service was attentive and on point, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was elegant and beautiful.

I'm giving it a 4 because of the effort that goes into Indian cuisine that people seem to disregard when they rate a place low for $ naan and pay thrice as much for store bought pita. We went in on a Friday evening and had their vegetarian/ pescatarian tasting menu. They also accomodated my partner's mushroom allergy. It has 6-7 courses and we tried some of their beverages as well. Overall, while the food requires a lot of skill to execute, having grown up in India, it falls short on flavors. Also all dishes were consistently cold, not warm or hot or lukewarm just cold. Which is a bummer. Indian dinners are meant to be hot both temperature and spice wise! Where's my hot dal... Service was excellent, they checked in multiple times and also replaced some courses we did not enjoy. The place has potential, if they could work on the issues like the cold state of things and also tying the menu into one cohesive meal, then they'd be unstoppable.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night with a few friends and had such a great time. We started with a round of drinks, I got the matcha colada - sweeter than expected, I wished this was less sweet. For appetizers, we started with: cauliflower pakoda - the sauces it came with really brought the pakoda together Malai chicken - probably the best thing I had - so soft and juicy and had an oil filling which tasted so good. The cheese fondue it came with was such a good pairing. Tandoori avocado - this was alright, I liked everything on the plate except the tandoori avocado - maybe it's me, but my friends liked it. Pork belly - this was way sweeter than I expected it to be. Good but I would skip this. Lamb kheema - this was really good and tasted rich with the butter slathered brioche it came with. Our apps alone made us quite full. We then got the black dairy daal, butter chicken and laccha parathas to share. The star was the black dal - it took me back home! So perfectly made, I cannot recommend this enough to anyone making a reservation out here. For desserts, we got the jalebi rabri- the best - the crunch was so satisfying and the chocolate pave - this was good but I liked the jalebi better. Overall, I can say that this was one of the nicer Indian restaurants I have dined at in a very long time and was content with the food I ate. Ambiance is dim light and elite. Service is attentive! Highly recommend making a reservation if you're in SF.

The restaurant is frequently booked, but we got a seat at the bar as a walk-in. This isn't your typical Indian tandoori spot. I usually start a review covering the food, but the two male bartenders provided such great service that it warrants big kudos. Watch 'em work, flashes of Cocktail (Tom Cruise). These guys added extra joy to our anniversary. The recommended Mezcal-based Embarcadero was a definite worthy cocktail. We went gringo style and ordered the Butter Chicken (kinda like ordering the California Roll at a renowned sushi house.) It was excellent. A complex paneer dish layered like lasagna and cooked in a banana leaf was a first time try. So good. The carefully poured chai and homemade light buttery biscuit provided a great setup for a delightful panna cotta-type dessert. It was light and full of flavor with a semi-sweet saffron anglaise base. A big recommend: Tiya is winner on many levels.

Had an incredible meal at Tiya! We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I made this reservation about three weeks in advance because I was worried that they might sell out for Saturday night. Right from the start the hospitality was 10 on 10- because we were celebrating an anniversary they set up a private table for us (tucked away on the side, away from the crowds) We had signed up for the Indian restaurant week prefix menu. Everything was so delicious including the cocktails! This is definitely a special occasion kinda place and we went home with our hearts and tummy full.

The restaurant is beautiful. Everything is set to just the right conditions. We were seated in a semi private area that was lovely and comfortable. Even the restroom stalls are spacious, set with mood lighting. Quality hand towels line the sinks. Conscientious servers catered to our needs. Asking for allergies right away and were quick to refill water. I never had to ask. The restaurant had good acoustics. Light music you can hear conversations over. All that leads to the food which was impeccable. I tried the Pescatarian Tasting Menu and my friend had the Vegetarian. We shared the supplemental courses and wow were they incredible! Totally worth it in my opinion and not driving us overboard on fullness. My one note is it got really cold mid meal. Don't know if it's because we had a secluded area but it got so chilly! Tiya Spritz Beautiful presentation. Fresh, citrus taste. Pani Puri So delicious. Liquid is a tad spicy. Pyaaz Kachori Refreshing crisp and ginger gel. The notes really come through. Also a little spicy. Nice blend of textures. Baingan Bhatt's Cornetto Eggplant and carrot blend well together. Also a little spicy. Shiso Chaat A good crunch and soft bite textures. The raspberry adds a bit of sweetness. Slight kick at the end. Heirloom Roots Pepper Fry Spice sneaks up on you. Nice creamy base and solid root vegetables. Edamame and Peas Kebob (Supplemental) Warm and refreshing. Not spicy. Octopus Xec Xec (Supplemental) The octopus is not overly chewy. It's really well cooked. Slight spice. Scallop Balchao Tenderly cooked scallop. Delicious creamy sauce. Tiniest hint of spice. My favorite dish. Barramundi Kizhi The fish works well with the sauce. The shrimp taco has a nice mix of textures. Tomato garnish was fantastic! Tart and juicy. The dal and garlic naan are terrific too. Carrot Halwa Pave Unique combination of flavors. A nice light dessert. Amraas Bonbon Filled with cool liquid. Refreshing. Paan Cannoli Light on the chocolate, just slightest bit of crunch.

What an amazing and heartwarming experience for our Anniversary!! We arrived a little late for our reservation due to traffic, but Madison, the amazing manager, welcomed us so warmly and made us comfortable right away. Her kindness truly set the tone for the night. We decided to sit at the bar and were blown away by Umesh. He was polite, friendly, and so thoughtful in helping us choose the best drinks and food. His guidance made the experience feel really special. Izler crafted our drinks to absolute perfection -- balanced sweetness and a fun suggestion to taste the leaf for the full flavor experience. Such attention to detail! And then came the star of the night: the Doodh Jalebi. The perfect dessert to end our anniversary celebration. Overall, an incredible experience from start to finish!

Tiya is an upscale Indian restaurant (part of a trend of fine dining Indian spots in the Bay Area) that distinguishes itself with subtle flavors and beautiful presentation. There are multiple tasting menu options available, as well an a la carte menu for those who prefer. For Restaurant Week, there was a special deal - and I jumped on it. Service was quick; we were seated with no problem and the tables are well-spaced apart. Some of the dishes were fantastic - the pani puri was divine, and the uber-popular Tandori Avocado (from the a la carte menu) is outstanding. Other dishes were "just very good," thus the four rather than five stars. It's a matter of taste and flavor preferences - I like bolder flavors. My dining companion (who has a more subtle palate) adored this place.

This is for the bar only. No food. This charmingly decorated and inviting bar and restaurant is a visual dazzler. Can double as a movie backdrop. We were greeted by a friendly bearded bartender named Izler. Izler develops concentrations of syrups, condiments, flavorings and infusions to specialize his cocktails as seen behind the bar. Before we ordered he offered a short tour of the opulently furnished white tablecloth dining room for the tasting menu. Although the list of specialty cocktails are named after SF neighborhoods, he gladly prepared a Melon flavored cocktail for me after asking what booze I enjoyed. It was an exquisite and expertly prepared cocktail with Midori and served it in a Collin's glass with one long rectangular block of ice. The Bro ordered a very nice light flavorful "Marina" cocktail with rum. We discovered (he actually disclosed after making our custom drinks) he was named best bartender of the year.

Definitely try the tuna tataki, which comes out sizzling hot with crispy rice and fresh fish. Try the toro cakes for sure, their classed up version of a crispy rice spicy tuna except it's crispy rice and toro. Yummy. We also had the Hotsui which is a roll with snow, crab, butter, fish, yellowtail, black pepper, and a sizzling sesame chili oil. The people who work here were also amazing, they know their dishes well and what makes them unique and delicious. Truly felt the love for their food.

Everything was served on time right after another and the table was cleaned almost everytime. We enjoyed our dinner so much. The appetizers were incredible. Poke tacos 5/5: crispy, tasty, buttery, fresh, lots of fish, so yummy Tonkatsu sliders 4/5: really good, the tonkatsu is crispy and juicy and easy to bite. The buns were soft and warm, slightly fluffy Tanpopo 5/5: I'm not a huge fan of spicy tuna but this roll was good tempera style. My bf enjoyed it so much he got a second roll. Lots of sauce and flavor. Dojo 5/5: my favorite roll of the 3 that we tried. I love eel and the bbq eel was so delicious. I love the addition of the crunch. Killed the whole roll to my self Hantui 2/5: I can see how its buttery and melts in your mouth but I felt it wasn't as flavorful to me and I didn't enjoy it as much. It's still really fresh and buttery but also simple. Cookie dough roll 4/5: we had to try!!! Insane with the chocolate chips and the sauces drizzled. I loved the ice cream. The cookie dough is yummy but can be a bit much after a few bites, it's pretty chunky. I enjoyed it though, super sweet!

Tried a number of desserts including gelato, tiramisu and I believe Pandoro. For starters I took Burrata and it was light, delicious and refreshing. Very good job. The second best Burrata (I am biased towards Spark Pizza's Redmond). For the main I went with Raviolini Fonduta and it was super Creamy and rich. Definitely stands as one of best Veg Italian recipes that I have tried. The service is excellent, the ambience is amazing - this place deserves a 5 start. I would definitely want to come back here !
