Writing updates this recent to my previous one is a rare thing but I would like to commend the restaurant for my last visit. With visitors from a foreign country meeting me for weeknight dinner, I asked their cuisine and food preference since we only had this meal with their busy schedule. I made a 5:45 pm reservation on a Wednesday and the guests and arrived early. We were seated at the 2nd table to the right as the dining room started to fill. This is when things got strange (in a good way) as our waiter referenced me by my 1st name as did the host. I didn't think much of it as the experience started. The format remains the same with a set menu for a four-course meal with two options for each course. Just as a teaser, here is what I enjoyed. (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=72&select=mlOTp-ts6sk78BRSuZ6Yjw) - presentation was fine dining style, (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=72&select=WcbGi9YqoqsxqUOm4OgKuQ), (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=72&select=4e32dU3Pa6DLvphkU9lxdQ), and (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=72&select=hrhewclMcb1AUOLpgype1Q). My apologies for forgetting to photograph my chocolate layer cake. As usual, everything was delicious. Kudos and big thanks to Charlie who waited on our party and was very upbeat and helpful, definitely above and beyond. Also, shout out to Lucas, who managed the front of the house. Also, thanks to Jian for rewarding me for my loyalty to this group's restaurants. I still need to try that place near J Town, hopefully sooner than later.

It's been a long while since we revisited Trstle and it is still holding up the reputation of it cozy atmosphere, great service, delicious food and now I believe they have the most reasonable price for SF. There ia public parking lot next door, it is online paid parking and ensure you click on all the necessary button to complete the payment process as I started it but failed to push the last confirmation button and ended up with a ticket. Since I have a screen shot of my payment screen for technical error I got a reduce payment but it's sure put a damper to the nice evening. Overall, everyone in our group were very happy with their dinner choices. We appreciate the warm service and professionalism from the entire team. We will be back this time sooner.

3.5/5 Perhaps the day I went just didn't hit as hard b/c my friend has been here 5+ times and she said this menu was the most mid yet... My friend and I had a reservation for 7:30pm on a Tuesday. We were seated quickly and then ordered the entire tasting menu ($104 + they also have an automatic 20% service + automatic 6% SF fee). The menu is seasonal! We had gotten: Waldorf Salad (3/5) Walnuts were yummy but overall just a standard salad Roasted Chicken Soup - (2/5) I fear I did not like this one it was just chicken soup Saffron Risotto - (3/5) very heavy and rich but in a way where I didn't want to finish it. Mushroom Stroganoff Pappardelle - (4/5) creamy & pasta was al dente! Crispy Pork Schnitzel (3/5) - was indeed crispy but the dish itself was not unique for me Seared Ling Cod (4/5) - the cod itself was seared nicely and the skin was crispy but the star of the show here was the Herb Spatzle with the Beurre Rouge; the spatzle was chewy and the beurre rouge was so smooth and rich). Vanilla Pot de Crème (3.5/5) - Brown sugar tuile was yummy in combination with the custard: not too sweet. Chocolate Layer Cake (3/5) - Peanut butter with the chocolate was yummy but I personally don't like cherry in cakes so that lowkey ruined it for me. Overall, I would go again for another menu but not the current one.

I had an incredible experience here last Tuesday night during a work trip to SF. Called ahead while walking from the hotel and asked if they accept walk ins and the manager mentioned he would save me a seat... good start already, whole staff was unbelievable professional while I dined here. 52 dollars, 4 great courses, 3 of which were some of the best bites I've ever had. This was truly a 5 star experience. I chose the panzanella salad/app and omfg this was the best salad I ever had holy shit For the second course I chose the risotto and omg dude the first two courses I had at this place were incredible, easily the best risotto and salad dish I've ever had. The entree was a bit underwhelming, if I did it again I would go w the steak as opposed to the sole/white fish it was beautiful just really light. I had the chocolate tart for the dinner and it was incredible. See the pics below, I could not recommend this place enough and would absolutely stop by again! I plan on coming back when I'm in town for work again in June. Great service, ambiance and food!

We had a party of 5 on a Friday night. After all these years, this place definitely continues the neighborhood joint vibes--warm, welcoming, and very attentive wait staff. The prix fixe menu is a wise approach to the menu which provides choices but certainly isn't overwhelming. At $52 per person, undoubtedly a great value for delicious food and cozy atmosphere.

Tres leches with a hint of frangipani and fresh berries

Waitstaff were attentive and professional -- this was just a lovely experience top to bottom. The carrot bisque with rhubarb, French feta, and harissa was the hit of the night but we also loved our salmon main courses with green garlic foam, the truffle penne with charred asparagus, and a wild mushroom risotto. Dessert was special with tres leches cake with a hint of frangipani and fresh berries. Some French press coffee on the side rounded out the end of our meal. It was just the right amount of food for us -- perfectly timed courses with attention to detail. The concept of a rotating menu and communal family-style experience is lovely but I'll be dreaming about that carrot, rhubarb, feta, harissa flavor combo and wishing I could order it whenever I want. We'll be back! Highly recommend for an affordable, Michelin-level experience!

We visited Trestle to partake in their New Year's Eve special menu at 11PM on Wednesday night (snagged the last reservation!). I had been previously and had an amazing experience, but that was several years back, so I was excited to come back and participate in the fun NYE experience. The menu was priced higher than their typical dinner menu at $95pp with an optional $65 wine pairing offered as well. Since we had such a late reservation, they had run out of the white truffle supplement. The service was very quick and attentive, and we loved chatting with our waiter. They brought out complimentary champagne and fun party props for the countdown at midnight which was so cute! On the food side, we did feel like for the higher price point of the menu, some of the dishes were lacking something - the crab tagliarini felt like it could have used more sauce, a bit of salt and more acid. The passionfruit vinaigrette on the yellowtail crudo was delicious but overpowered the fresh fish and fresh fresnos, rather than pickled, would offer spice to cut through some of the sweetness. However, the porcini risotto was so umami-rich and delicious, with perfectly cooked mushrooms. The seared scallops were also amazing and the cauliflower apple slaw was such an unexpectedly good pairing! I will always love a pavlova and the winter citrus was at its peak juiciness. The chocolate opera cake would be well-loved by chocolate and coffee lovers. While we did enjoy the menu, I'm looking forward to coming back to enjoy one of their standard menus!

Decided to try trestle for a joint bday dinner with the bf. Reservations were pretty easy to get. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. Wood floors and high ceilings meant a pretty loud atmosphere at peak dinning hours. They give you a selector of 2 options for a 4 course meal. My bf and I have completely different tastes so we got opposites. Highlights were the shrimp risotto. Would recommend for a nice dinner for 2 at a new spot in the city.

I originally tried Trestle last year with 2 friends and didn't have a great experience as my food was not hot enough and the pasta dish was too hard and not al dente. BUT I'm really happy to have given Trestle and the rotating pre fixe menu a second chance! My second visit was actually really shocking from the excellent front hostess to the presentation and unexpected tastes. Tip: share everything with one other person so that you can try one of each course. Never underestimate a soup! The sunchoke soup was hot and savory with a nutty and creaminess that we've never tasted before. You can also tell the mushroom was prepared in a different way that allows its flavor to come through uniquely. Our second favorite was certainly the red wine beef risotto. The bite of beef was tender and melted in our mouth instantly. Sometimes the taste of risotto can plateau after a couple spoons but we never wanted the bowl to end. Each spoon was great. Some slight misses: the cacio e pepe was just okay with the al dente texture, but the flavor was missing in comparison to the other entree option. The duck confit was also over salted to the point we had to down our waters. Overall, considering the menu continuously changes, I applaud their R&D team for always finding innovative ways to serve similar seasonal ingredients. There are some misses here and there, but for a $52 pre fixe, it's still worth it to come every once in awhile to try different dishes.

Trestle's been on my list of spots to try for a while now, and I wasn't disappointed! Tried their 4 course $52 meal, and learned that it constantly changes to whatever is in season. Beet carpaccio, carbonara, steak, and panna cotta made for a surprisingly filling meal! I wanted to shoutout the amazing service here too. We had 3 folks drop out of our larger party and they accommodated immediately. Waiters were also very knowledgeable about the dishes and wine selection!

Ate here with friends on a recent trip. We had their 4 course $52 meal, and between us had all the options. The staff was excellent. I had come on a mobility scooter as my friends wanted to walk from the hotel. There was only one place it fit, but the staff was very helpful in carefully getting it out of the way. I started with the beet carpaccio, which was quite good, but difficult to pick up the slices of beet. The mushroom risotto was very good, with a perfect texture. I really liked the duck confit, with an excellent outer texture and not too dry as sometimes happens with confit, but my friend and her husband both preferred the salmon. The chocolate cake was delicious, and I loved the chocolate pearls on top. A perfect way to end this meal.

Been to Trestle a couple times now and I've enjoyed all my experiences. Easy to make reservations via Open Table, credit card is required to book. Simple menu with great choices each time. 4-course meal for $52, just can't beat that kind of deal and experience. My most recent visit took place last weekend and I really enjoyed the gem salad and the duck. They were even able to get the duck to be crispy! Ambiance is dim inside, but not overly dark where I can't see. The tables are close together, but not elbow to elbow. Service has been great each time, genuine and courteous. One of the staff mentioned the menu changes every 2 weeks or so. Looking forwad to another visit in the near future. #39/2025

My party had dinner at Trestle and I had reservations for 5 at 7:30 and was seated at 7:50. I tried the squash soup, Black Truffle Risotto, branzino, and chocolate tart. The standout of the night was definitely the risotto, which was rich, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The other dishes were good and well-prepared. The environment is a bit more classy and seemed more for date nights and celebrations. Service, however, was a bit uneven. Our server, Jessica, seemed noticeably disengaged throughout the meal. When the soup was served, the bowl was set down in a way that bumped our arm, and there was no acknowledgment or apology. The soup pour was more of a splat/dump instead of a stream. It created an odd tone for the rest of the experience. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but the service left us unsure if we'd return, especially for this price.

    Ask the Community - Trestle

Is it noisey for early (6pm-ish) dining?

Low noise early. Only raises to moderate as the dining room fills.

Is the 20% service charge applied to the pre- or post-tax amount? TIA.

    Pre-Tax

Do they do walk-ins? I tried to book for SFRW but found they do not take reservations for parties under 2. aka... party of 1. Thank you.

I walked in but it was late, closer to 8:30 and I had to wait until almost 9 to be seated but they did accept me. They will take your name down and text you.

    Do they take walk-ins?

Yes, we allow walk-ins, however please keep in mind we're a small restaurant and are often fully-committed with reservations. We always recommend trying to make a reservation first.

Corkage fee? Wine list viewable online?

Trestle's corkage fee is $25/bottle for any bottle not on our current wine list. Please contact us at info@trestlesf.com and we'd be happy to email you a copy of the wine list.

Does this place take reservations? I looked on the site but could t see an option but wanted to double check

Hello. Yes, we accept reservations at Trestle. Please visit trestlesf.com. You’ll find a reserve button in the top right or a reservations widget on the the center of the page. We hope to see you soon.

How often does the menu change?

We update the Trestle menu daily.

What was at this location prior to Trestle?

I believe it was an old Chinese restaurant (Great Hunan?) that had been there for ages.

Where can I view their wine list?

They have it on a separate paperwork.

Is there a bar seating at the new location?

No there isn't. Beer and wine only.

    Do they have outdoor seating?

No. The Vault, their sister restaurant does.

    Is there a corkage?

    A whopping $45.00!

Do they have a separate menu for vegetarians?

Separate no. Most restaurants don't have a unique vegetarian menu. But as you'll see from their standard menu from their website, they have at least one item per category that's vegetarian.

Is this inside or outside? So tired of outside.

    Inside. The Vault is outside.

How much time should I expect to spend here for a meal?

I would allow at least an hour. It really depends on if you are having wine and how long it takes you to eat each course. The service is very fast and efficient

Are there vegetarian options? What about for the tasting menu?

When I went there, the menu did not have an true veggie entree options, but the restaurant was able to accommodate. However I would not plan to go here if you are vegan or strict on diet- the menu does constantly change though so you never know!

Will you be able to accommodate dairy-free alternatives for all dishes/courses?

Better check with the restaurant. They only offer pre-fixe menu so not sure if they can accommodate.

Seems like I'm not able to get a reservation online. They don't accept reservations for parties of 1..anyone else has had this problem? Do I need to call them?

    It's a small restaurant. I would call.

    Is there a corkage fee?

Yes. $20 a bottle as of July 2017. Call to confirm.

Are there any gluten free options?

    Yes. Numerous dishes are available.

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

It felt much more balanced and grown-up than the usual sugary version. The pastry I tried was also nicely done.. rich, layered, and satisfying without being too much. What stood out most to me, though, was the whole atmosphere. It feels part café, part chocolate boutique, part tasting experience. Even just browsing the bars and beautifully packaged products was fun. A really nice place if you enjoy thoughtful desserts and want something that feels a little more elevated than a typical coffee-and-pastry stop.

I…read morejust know Dandelion by their lofty reputation and that it rests on their approach, a pure mix of cocoa beans and sugar without the need of extra cocoa butter. Last year I saw how insanely popular their Tokyo store was, so I finally tried this cafe for the first time because it was unusually empty as I was passing by. I had no idea what to order because the menu wasn't conspicuous to virginal visitors. Only later did I notice the drink menu on the left wall. The openly exposed desserts are what really caught my eye first. I decided to order the $6.75 Frozen Hot Chocolate because it frankly reminded me of the decadent monstrosities at the legendary Serendipity 3 in Manhattan's Midtown East (Photo 8). It was similar but not nearly as huge of pricy. I liked it a lot though with a generous dollop of whipped cream, it was more a mid-afternoon dessert. That should've been enough, but the confections on display were too inviting. Filled with 70% Takyikrom and Ghana chocolate ganache, the $8 Apple Donut was freckled with candied apple bits and tossed in spiced sugar (Photo 9). Delightfully decadent. FOOD / DRINK - 5 stars...definitely in a class by itself AMBIANCE - 4 stars..,I sat at the solitary counter that provided a view of their prep area SERVICE - 4 stars...they appear to work efficiently together TOTAL - 5 stars...when you feel deserving of the decadence RELATED - Exploring the Mission? Turns out she was right. I had a matcha latte half sweet, and it was delicious- high quality matcha, not too strong or sweet. We did wait about 10min for our order, service is kind but busy. This is a stand nestled in the middle of the Japan Center Mall, so recommend grabbing a sip here and wandering around. Just heads up that many stores don't allow outside drink.

Surprisingly, I only waited about 10mins to order and another 5-10mins to get my drink. I ordered a Hojicha Latte + Snow Top for myself and Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve for my hubby and baby to share. The Hojicha Latte was delicious, I finished it all in one sitting (which is rare for me). The soft serve was creamy and delicious. Worth the hype IMO,, I'll be stopping by every time we go to Japantown from now on.

Delicious, and this place blew my mind when I tried it out…read more First off, very surprised at all the flavors you can get and try, including horchata, Thai tea, and ube! To be honest, when I came here, I did not expect much. I typically am not the type to get snow or anything icy, since it is not the first thing that comes to my mind when it comes to dessert, but I am so glad I got to experience this. When I came on a Wednesday night, it was not too busy, and my friend and I were able to get our food within 10 minutes. The spot itself is pretty small, with not a lot of seating, but some limited spots outside. I got the black sesame with condensed milk, and my friend got the mexican hot chocolate. What makes this place stand out so much is the texture of the dessert, which was fluffy, soft, and melted in your mouth. Overall, I want to come here again and try the other flavors!

I loved this so much, it had such a fantastic texture of being creamy but also light and fluffy. Probably one of the best shaved snow texture I've had. Tried some of the matcha snow and earl grey snow as well, and both of them were solid too. My favorite was still the cereal snow because I have more of a sweet tooth and the matcha and earl grey were less sweet. I would absolutely return to try more snow flavors! Service was really friendly and our 3 bowls were ready within a few minutes. Only one small bench inside and some outdoor seating.
