One of my favorite dining experiences in SF (and it's a tough category to win in)! This review is long overdue as I had an amazing experience at Trestle for a birthday dinner a whole year ago. By sheer luck, my birthday coincided with the 4-course for $45 promotion they were running for their 10-year anniversary. I had to jump at the opportunity, especially since the menu was built from the all time favorite items at the restaurant since their opening. I really couldn't think of a better way to experience a restaurant for the first time. While some set course meals have a few misses, this one was just hit after hit the entire way through. I really felt as if every course was complimentary, but different enough in their own way to stand on their own and make an impact. Tldr: the food was amazing! The icing on the cake (figuratively and literally) was just how far they went out of their way to make my birthday night special. Exceptional service, bringing out a complimentary dessert with a candle, and even leaving a personalized card elevated this experience to the next level. Would highly recommend paying Trestle a visit, and I can't wait for the next time I'm able to try their new menus myself! read more

With the new Michelin awards just announced, I'd like to throw it back to this restaurant that has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for a decade. I had a 3 course dinner here for just $39 back then in 2022. Even though it has gone up to $52 for a 4 course meal now, it is still a budget friendly option for Michelin recommended dinning. We visited around Christmas, so the cozy little space felt extra festive. The restaurant is quite small, which added to the charm, though it did get pretty loud during dinner service. As for the food, both the presentation and flavors were decent but not particularly memorable. Nothing really stood out or left a lasting impression. I really enjoyed this place. The food was very delicious. They have pre fixe menu that changes depending on what's in season. You get an appetizer, pasta dish, main and dessert. The price for quality and quantity was really worth it. On the night we went, I got the split pea soup, risotto with bacon and veggies, their steak main and sorbet for dessert. I honestly really enjoyed all the dishes, especially the steak that was cooked medium rare and the risotto. It was so flavorful and creamy. Got a glass of white wine to wash everything down. The only downside with service was that they didn't offer us a bread basket. We didn't realize this until the very end. Everyone else got bread baskets and were even asked if they wanted one. Such a great deal for a 4 course meal in the city for $52 per person. (Around $70 with tax and tip). Make sure to get a reservation in advance! Portion size was good and both my friend and I were stuffed by the time the dessert was out. They change up the menu frequently depending on what is in season which makes me excited for the next time I get to dine at Trestle. I will definitely be returning to Trestle!! Made a last minute reservation here for our anniversary dinner. Loved that they gave us a handwritten card and added little happy anniversary chocolates to our desserts! I thought the price was reasonable ($52 per person for four courses) compared to what I'm used to in Chicago, and the food seemed very fresh. We got one of everything. I love that the restaurant feels very intimate, almost like you are eating in a dining room at someone's house. The plates were small, but they filled me up. My favorite was the seared bistro steak, but I also really liked the rigatoni verde. The doughnuts with the raspberry sauce were the perfect dessert to end the meal. I wasn't super blown away by the flavors, though. I also wish that our waitress explained each dish to us after setting it down because the server who had the table next to us was doing that. I think she should have offered us bread too. We thought it was just given automatically because every table that sat down seemed to be getting it and we were questioning why we didn't get any, but apparently it was listed on the menu that you have to ask for it which was very easy to miss if you don't read closely enough. As per my other review, I came back with an open mind to give trestle another chance! I did take a look at the menu before hand I was really excited for the food. The flavors were much better for my palette, and the service was wonderful. I did really enjoy the pork, salmon and pasta (my friend and I ordered various things to share) as their flavors really complimented each other! With that said, I still feel like it misses the mark for me. Writing updates this recent to my previous one is a rare thing but I would like to commend the restaurant for my last visit. With visitors from a foreign country meeting me for weeknight dinner, I asked their cuisine and food preference since we only had this meal with their busy schedule. I made a 5:45 pm reservation on a Wednesday and the guests and arrived early. We were seated at the 2nd table to the right as the dining room started to fill. This is when things got strange (in a good way) as our waiter referenced me by my 1st name as did the host. I didn't think much of it as the experience started. It's been a long while since we revisited Trstle and it is still holding up the reputation of it cozy atmosphere, great service, delicious food and now I believe they have the most reasonable price for SF. There ia public parking lot next door, it is online paid parking and ensure you click on all the necessary button to complete the payment process as I started it but failed to push the last confirmation button and ended up with a ticket. Since I have a screen shot of my payment screen for technical error I got a reduce payment but it's sure put a damper to the nice evening. I had an incredible experience here last Tuesday night during a work trip to SF. Called ahead while walking from the hotel and asked if they accept walk ins and the manager mentioned he would save me a seat... good start already, whole staff was unbelievable professional while I dined here. 52 dollars, 4 great courses, 3 of which were some of the best bites I've ever had. This was truly a 5 star experience. I chose the panzanella salad/app and omfg this was the best salad I ever had holy shit For the second course I chose the risotto and omg dude the first two courses I had at this place were incredible, easily the best risotto and salad dish I've ever had. The entree was a bit underwhelming, if I did it again I would go w the steak as opposed to the sole/white fish it was beautiful just really light. I had the chocolate tart for the dinner and it was incredible. See the pics below, I could not recommend this place enough and would absolutely stop by again! We visited Trestle to partake in their New Year's Eve special menu at 11PM on Wednesday night (snagged the last reservation!). I had been previously and had an amazing experience, but that was several years back, so I was excited to come back and participate in the fun NYE experience. The menu was priced higher than their typical dinner menu at $95pp with an optional $65 wine pairing offered as well. Since we had such a late reservation, they had run out of the white truffle supplement. The service was very quick and attentive, and we loved chatting with our waiter. They brought out complimentary champagne and fun party props for the countdown at midnight which was so cute! On the food side, we did feel like for the higher price point of the menu, some of the dishes were lacking something - the crab tagliarini felt like it could have used more sauce, a bit of salt and more acid. The passionfruit vinaigrette on the yellowtail crudo was delicious but overpowered the fresh fish and fresh fresnos, rather than pickled, would offer spice to cut through some of the sweetness. However, the porcini risotto was so umami-rich and delicious, with perfectly cooked mushrooms. The seared scallops were also amazing and the cauliflower apple slaw was such an unexpectedly good pairing! I will always love a pavlova and the winter citrus was at its peak juiciness. The chocolate opera cake would be well-loved by chocolate and coffee lovers. While we did enjoy the menu, I'm looking forward to coming back to enjoy one of their standard menus! read more

Been to Trestle a couple times now and I've enjoyed all my experiences. Easy to make reservations via Open Table, credit card is required to book. Simple menu with great choices each time. 4-course meal for $52, just can't beat that kind of deal and experience. My most recent visit took place last weekend and I really enjoyed the gem salad and the duck. They were even able to get the duck to be crispy! Ambiance is dim inside, but not overly dark where I can't see. The tables are close together, but not elbow to elbow. Service has been great each time, genuine and courteous. I originally tried Trestle last year with 2 friends and didn't have a great experience as my food was not hot enough and the pasta dish was too hard and not al dente. BUT I'm really happy to have given Trestle and the rotating pre fixe menu a second chance! My second visit was actually really shocking from the excellent front hostess to the presentation and unexpected tastes. Tip: share everything with one other person so that you can try one of each course. Never underestimate a soup! The sunchoke soup was hot and savory with a nutty and creaminess that we've never tasted before. You can also tell the mushroom was prepared in a different way that allows its flavor to come through uniquely. Our second favorite was certainly the red wine beef risotto. The bite of beef was tender and melted in our mouth instantly. Sometimes the taste of risotto can plateau after a couple spoons but we never wanted the bowl to end. Each spoon was great. Some slight misses: the cacio e pepe was just okay with the al dente texture, but the flavor was missing in comparison to the other entree option. The duck confit was also over salted to the point we had to down our waters. Overall, considering the menu continuously changes, I applaud their R&D team for always finding innovative ways to serve similar seasonal ingredients. My party had dinner at Trestle and I had reservations for 5 at 7:30 and was seated at 7:50. I tried the squash soup, Black Truffle Risotto, branzino, and chocolate tart. The standout of the night was definitely the risotto, which was rich, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The other dishes were good and well-prepared. The environment is a bit more classy and seemed more for date nights and celebrations. Service, however, was a bit uneven. Our server, Jessica, seemed noticeably disengaged throughout the meal. When the soup was served, the bowl was set down in a way that bumped our arm, and there was no acknowledgment or apology. The soup pour was more of a splat/dump instead of a stream. The carrot bisque with rhubarb, French feta, and harissa was the hit of the night but we also loved our salmon main courses with green garlic foam, the truffle penne with charred asparagus, and a wild mushroom risotto. I've heard such good things about Trestle and was excited to finally try the pre-fix menu for dinner. The interior is dark and classy without feeling too formal, reminding me of a nice supper club. My friend and I ended up ordering different dishes from the menu so we could try all 6 savory desserts and the 2 desserts on seasonable menu. Ate here with friends on a recent trip. We had their 4 course $52 meal, and between us had all the options. The staff was excellent. I had come on a mobility scooter as my friends wanted to walk from the hotel. There was only one place it fit, but the staff was very helpful in carefully getting it out of the way. I started with the beet carpaccio, which was quite good, but difficult to pick up the slices of beet. The mushroom risotto was very good, with a perfect texture. I really liked the duck confit, with an excellent outer texture and not too dry as sometimes happens with confit, but my friend and her husband both preferred the salmon. The clam pasta was the standout because it finally introduced some acidity and balance. Service was attentive throughout, and the staff handled a blackout during dinner impressively well. This place has somehow broken that norm and made an affordable date night for all. The whole ambience of the place is absolutely gorgeous so much to look at and enjoy in a small intimate space. So happy to have finally been able to pop in and try Trestle. We made a reservation and were happily greeted and seated right away. It's sorta small but really adorable and feels a bit fancy inside. The menu is great and affordable. Not too many options to overwhelm a person. The beer and wine options were great as well. I tried the sour ale beer and was so good. Beer is bottled but a nice selection and variety. I tried the tomato soup, braised beef pasta, duck, and chocolate cake. It's $52 for 4 courses and so worth it. The soup was light and flavorful and poured table side. The pasta was cooked perfectly and beef was so tender and juicy. I'm hesitant to get duck sometimes but this tasted great and not too gamey. Amazing food and service! For their tenth anniversary, Thestle was offering a four course prix fixe menu for $45! I opted for the calamari, the ricotta gnudi, the crispy skin branzino, and the whipped cheesecake. The highlights for me were definitely the ricotta gnudi which came with cheese-filled pasta topped with prosciutto with English peas and the crispy skin branzino which came with an umami-packed sauce with clams and chorizo. The texture of the branzino was nice and crispy! The whole meal experience was a nice balance of lighter and heavier dishes and service was attentive and on top of keeping our water glasses filled, switching out the silverware, and explaining each of the dishes. Don't be fooled by what look like small portion sizes in pictures, each course that Trestle offers fresh ingredients and rich and subtle flavors that leave very few unsatisfied, me included, on any day of the week. I went on a Wednesday evening for a 6:00pm reservation. The restaurant is a cozy and charming bistro style restaurant with only about 15 tables in the main seating area. The menu changes daily, so there's an element of surprise and delight when you see what's being served. On the night I went I had the tomato bisque to start, which was a tasty and not overly creamy take on the classic soup. The second dish was the braised beef rigatoni, which was absolutely delicious with little tender chunks of beef and a classic ragu sauce for the pasta. The third dish was my favorite, a seared salmon with corn mash. It was very tender, perfectly cooked, and extremely flavorful. For desert - a beautiful and warm chocolate lava cake...thing. I forget exactly what it was but I loved it. The service was excellent, I never felt like our group was ignored, and we were one of the smaller ones in the restaurant at the time. The servers were very knowledgeable about the dishes and which drinks to pair them with. For drinks, I went with a Kolsch - a German beer made in Cologne that they actually import from the country. At this price, I honestly had lower expectations. But, everything was exceptional in the main courses. Allured by the "affordable" prix fixe meal, I was shocked to not only see a 6% health surcharge, but also was notified in person of a extra 20% service fee. Be warned, although the price advertises it as a $52 4 course meal, the total came out to be about $70+pp after all the junk fees. The food was nothing to write home about either. The starter tomato soup I had tasted like haidilao hotpot's soup base. The rigatoni was a little undercooked for my taste, but the beef and overall flavor was savory and flavorful. The salmon...is just a pan seared salmon. The corn tasted like canned corn I put in my fried rice. The duck con fit was really tender and was cooked to perfection. The dessert of a dark chocolate cake and tres leches were probably my favorite dishes, partly because none of the other ones really stood out. From a place marketed as affordable, the final sticker shock was a lot higher than anticipated. Based on opentable's reservation system you would assume this restaurant was worth the hype - but turns out the seating is just very limited. I find it hard to justify forking over $70 pp for a meal I did not feel remotely full off of, especially with a mediocre vibe and loud noise levels. Very nice tasting menu that is also relatively affordable. I love the idea of this restaurant, weekly rotating menu with a 3 course menu for $45. Optional pasta course for an additional charge but its definitely worth trying and great to share. Started with a mushroom soup that was really rich and fragrant. Steak was really well cooked, tender and flavorful. We tried both pasta dishes, an actual pasta with a ragu and a risotto. Both carbs were really good but the risotto was super flavorful and took the cake in our mind. Desserts were also very solid. Really great menu and tasty food, would certainly recommend. read more

Food was amazing; would've been 5 stars but the service was a bit off. I booked a dinner for my birthday with some friends, and I showed up ~5 minutes after our reservation started. Our waiter kept mentioning that I was late, which I found pretty rude because my leg is injured and I can't walk well. I literally went into the restaurant with crutches and a leg brace on. The service was also very rushed and my plates were taken away as soon as I finished. At the end of the meal they brought out a candle on one of the desserts, which was cute, but they gave it to my friend instead. At the beginning of the meal they did ask who was celebrating that day, and they saw that it was me. I'd hope they would've coordinated that better. Overall the meal was pleasant and we enjoyed the food, despite the misses in service. read more
