I stayed at the hotel for 10 days and genuinely looked forward to breakfast each morning at "The Third Floor." The selection was excellent, with a wide variety of healthy options to choose from. The team had a perfect balance between being relaxed and highly professional. They were also very accommodating--happy to customize dishes beyond the menu to suit personal preferences and dietary needs. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Third Floor for helping me organize our company offsite. Zoe was incredibly helpful and responsive within a short timeframe. From changes in the menu to headcount, she was so receptive and gave great recommendations. Everyone was thrilled with the venue and food selection. Everything served was delicious and well appreciated. My personal favorite were the raw items- the beef tartare, sushi, and oysters were divine. The beef tartare had such a thoughtful presentation, as it was served with Asian pear upon a delicate rice cracker. I also loved the french fries and housemade potato chips that were ordered! The truffled ham and cheese croquettes had a delightful creamy spice to them due to the harissa inside them, it was so savory with a layered flavor to them. I also loved the chicken tsukune, everything was amazing to lay our eyes on and to eat. I think my very minor issue would be that I ordered non-alcoholic beverage packages for my entire party and alcoholic beverages for a few, and I would say that the selection could be a bit more expansive and also elaborate upon what beverages there are to choose from. We visited on a Friday for lunch, and we made a reservation beforehand. We were greeted by the waiter and were seated right away. Right outside of the dining area there were sofa and lounge area, which was a very comfortable setting for having a drink. The dining area was spacious and comfy too. Espresso Martini $16 I got the espresso martini which was made with Ketel One Vodka, freshly made espresso, and Demerara. Love the creamy and foamy texture of the espresso martini. Potato Leek Croquettes $14 Four pieces of the potato leek croquettes with herbed creme fraiche on the side. Roasted Beets $18 We ordered a salad with beets, mixed greens, whipped goat cheese, candied pecans, and blood orange. Great service once seated, so-so food. We had a reservation and only a handful of tables were seated at 7:20am on a Sunday but they had us wait for about 10min before we could grab our table, likely because only 1 server was working. Her name was Cathy and she was lovely. Went there for breakfast, the standard Third Floor breakfast with two eggs, potatoes, meat and bread was dependable. Ordered the açaí bowl for our kids and it didn't mention it would have Greek yogurt on top which ended up being uneaten because my kids are sensitive to dairy. Same goes for the highly recommended chef special smoothies that tasted mainly of dairy and nothing else. Came here for the weekend AYCE yakitori and it was such a good experience! The ambiance was fantastic and the food was all really good! I saw the AYCE a few times on instagram, and was thrilled to see it was happening on a weekend that I happened to be staying in the city. It started out only being every other weekend, but when we were in they said it had become so popular that they were doing it every weekend while the weather was nice. For AYCE skewers and sides it was $57, which included tax and gratuity. Drinks were not included, but the bar was open and you could order cocktails, sake, and wine. The yakitori was buffet style, but for drinks (aside from water) the servers came out and took your order. There were six different skewer options - chicken meatballs, chicken thighs, short rib, pork belly, mushroom, and shrimp. I got all on my first round, then picked my favorites for the next visits to the food table. All skewers were good, but my favorites were the chicken thigh, pork belly, and beef short rib. I got sides on my first visit to the table too, but skipped them the next visits because I wanted more room for the meats. Favorite of the sides was the seaweed salad. I wished I hadn't gotten full so quickly because I would've loved to stay up on the terrace longer. It was such a pretty space with a very relaxed yet nice vibe. This review is for the Yakitori on the Terrace! We loved the setting and idea of this rooftop concept and wanted to give it a try! Easy to get to (10-15min walk from the ferry or ~6-8 min by uber from the ferry building). The staff was kind, prompt, helpful prior to service. It seemed a little chaotic once on the rooftop but everything was self- serve so it makes sense. The DJ was a nice touch. Skewers were delicious, our favorites were the short rib, mushroom, chicken meatball. Taste best fresh off the grill! But you can always ask them to reheat if they feel cold. We wish there were more sauce / side options (some of the sides were cold). Ie: in Japan we'd always have chicken meatball with an egg yolk! (Just a nit-picky suggestion). Lunch for two at the Yakitori on the Terrace event on a recent Saturday. We saved our appetites for this all you can eat experience and I'm glad we did. We left stuffed! My highlights include the pork belly and short rib skewers - so flavorful and grilled perfectly. The salads were also a refreshing counterpoint to all the proteins. We also enjoyed a sake flight and learned more about sake in the process. The atmosphere was convivial as there were several groups (4-6+ people) dining as well. We ordered the sourdough bread early, but it came pretty late and without butter. When we asked, they brought a tiny portion, then randomly brought a full container when we were nearly done. It was a nice gesture, just weird timing. The food was decent but nothing standout. The black cod was a little too fishy for our taste. My boyfriend and I came here for a nice brunch date after reading great reviews and being drawn to the Japanese-inspired menu. Unfortunately, our experience was just okay. Even though we had a reservation, we still waited about 20 minutes--and the restaurant was only half full. I ordered the omakase set, which included rice, miso soup, corn arugula salad, miso cod, pickles, and two soft poached eggs. The miso soup had an odd sweet flavor, the pickles lacked any real taste, and the poached eggs were bland and under-seasoned. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was tiny--just two small slices for $28. My boyfriend ordered the pork belly Benedict and was also disappointed. The dish was unexpectedly sweet, and the pork belly was ground instead of sliced, which took away from the texture and flavor. This review is for the Saturday yakitori AYCE only. The layout is a little confusing but you need to go to the third floor of the hotel and check in with a host to get a wristband. The vibes of the terrace are super nice - because it's not actually that high up, there wasn't any wind when we visited and the temperature was really nice. The rooftop is beautifully laid out with comfy couches and water stations throughout. You can also order sides or drinks (for extra cost). The food itself was alright - the selection is pretty small, and the food gets cold really quickly since they don't use heated trays or lamps to keep the skewers warm. If you get a freshly made skewer, it's good though. Overall I would say the vibes here are great and would be nice for drinks, but the AYCE skewer experience was just alright. read more

The coffee is also excellent; they use beans from Equator Coffee Company, which really takes things to the next level. What really stood out to me was the atmosphere and design. The space is modern, with lots of thoughtful details. Light wood adds a cozy touch, and the big windows bring in so much natural light -- it feels bright and welcoming. The staff are incredible: very attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely kind. They made sure I was comfortable the whole time and were lovely to talk to. You can sit inside or enjoy your meal out on the patio, which feels like a peaceful escape right in the middle of the city. Stayed here for Valentine's Day. The hotel itself is gorgeous, but unfortunately the restaurant was a huge letdown. This review covers both dinner and breakfast. We arrived right at 5:30 when the restaurant opened, since we were told it was fully booked for Valentine's dinner and could only possibly accommodate us at opening. Fair enough. We were seated behind the bar at tiny tables, even though the restaurant was mostly empty at that time. Service was minimal. Our server rarely checked on us. We ordered the duck noodle and chicken sandwich. The taste was fine, nothing memorable. The food took a long time to arrive, and getting the check took even longer. We eventually had to wave down the manager just to pay and leave. By the time we left around 6:45, the restaurant was still mostly empty. Breakfast was unfortunately more of the same. The server was not very helpful and came across as having an attitude. Food took a long time again. The manager stopped by and comped us a fruit bowl, which still took about 10 minutes to arrive. Our actual food did not come out until more than 45 minutes after ordering, and it was disappointing. The burger had unmelted cheese and an odd patty to veggie ratio, with huge pieces of lettuce and thick tomato slices. I would rather go to Super Duper or In-N-Out. The omakase was also a letdown. The fish portions were tiny and the composition felt strange. There was a large portion of pickled radish and a bowl of miso soup with more onion and seaweed than soup, plus the wrong type of tofu. The cherry on top was getting diarrhea shortly after breakfast. My guess is the comped fruit bowl. Overall, a huge letdown for our Valentine's Day experience. We would not come back. TLDR: Food was not memorable, service was slow, and the overall experience felt overpriced and underwhelming. Recommend going elsewhere if you are staying here. read more

We really like this place. We even liked it back in the day when it was at street level and called Bar 333 in the Le Meridian Hotel. Now it's on the third floor (hence the name) and the hotel is The Jay. Might even like the new version better. It's a little out of the way so a few less tech/finance bros all wearing the uniform. You know, beige/tanish pants with blueish shirt with or with out white pin stripes under a Patagonia puffy coat. No originality in dress in the FiDi. Anyway, moving on. Nice new bar and cozy seating areas. Less hustle and bustle. Very relaxing. Check in to the hotel is close by so lots of travelers stopping in before hitting their room or the SF sights. When you go get The Dips. Roasted pepper pine nut spread and sweet potatoe humus with pita bread triangles and an assortment of veggies. I could take a bath in this stuff. We dropped in here this time before we had dinner elsewhere. I would say almost anytime we are now in the city we stop in here. If you look it up on Google or other searches it appears they open and close all through the day. Not the case. Open from 6:30am to 11:00pm everyday. The time splits are for breakfast, lunch, happy hour, etc. Excellent drinks food and service. read more

I'm very particular about the type of hotel bar I prefer - good for solo, couple, or group, premium spirits and well curated wine list, bar bites that are substantive enough if you missed a meal, and NO TVs. 3rd Floor? check, check, check, and check. The bar itself is small (~6 chairs), but huge lounge area, including a really nice outdoor patio area. Couches and chairs are all super comfy, but enough structure if you need to have a business meeting. Their custom cocktails were creative and tasty, avoiding the overly-sweet tendency that so many bars defer to. Solid selection of premium spirits. I will definitely be back. read more

The ambiance here is so chic- inside and outside, very cool and modern. We didn't take advantage of the cocktail hour or midday menu but I did get cocktails with friends in the evening. Espresso martinis and margaritas- everyone enjoyed them. The breakfast was really good! The restaurant wasn't crowded and all but we enjoyed breakfast. My plate didn't look appetizing in its plating but was really good. Another pointer was that the bacon wasn't cooked great though- it wasn't crispy at all- not my preference. I was really excited to try this restaurant but ended up quite disappointed. I've dined at many high-end restaurants and expected a similar level of service here. When we arrived, the hotel doorman was very welcoming, and we were seated immediately. Our server brought us water, gave us time to look over the menu, and took our order. After our food was delivered, he completely disappeared. The server never checked back in, and we were left waiting for quite a while once we finished our meal. What made this more frustrating is that we were basically the people in the restaurant, so it felt odd to be so overlooked. At one point, we were even wondering how we were supposed to get the check. I eventually got up to use the restroom, and only after I returned did the server finally come back with it. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and given its upscale atmosphere, I expected attentive service. Enjoyed yakitori on the terrace and was so impressed with the service that we came back for happy hour later that day. For yakitori, the trumpet mushroom skewers were my favorite. They also had pork belly, steak, shrimp, 2 kinds of chicken, 2 types of salads, and a rice dish. The service was top notch. Such friendly staff. For happy hour, the milk punch was incredibly smooth and the charcuterie board delicious. The terrace has fire pits and comfortable lounge seating. Great place for a casual hang. BEWARE: if you look at the menu online, some of the pricing is considerably lower than in person. For example, the olive oil martini is listed as $20 but we were charged $23. Adds up when you're paying for a round. I wish I would've realized it when we were given the check but I went home thinking our grand total couldn't be right until I pulled out the receipt and saw that we were over charged. Truth in advertising: The Third Floor is literally on the third floor. They could also have called it "The Place With the Rooftop Bar" and though they'd win no awards for creativity they'd not be lying. The Third Floor is a bar and restaurant in The Jay (formerly Le Meridien), a high-end Marriott property in SF's Financial District. The space can be rented out for private events which is what brought me there: a Neo Soul House Party afternoon-into-evening gig which overtook the indoor and outdoor space and featured a DJ followed by live (indoor) music. During this time, the bar and restaurant were open for service allowing me the opportunity to partake in all aspects of The Third Floor. After receiving little hospitality from the bartender during my first round of drinks I moved to the rooftop and had excellent food (fries, $11) and drink service for the rest of the evening. The Jay's rooftop patio sits on the 3rd floor, flanked on one side by one of the Embarcadero's high-rise towers. As such, there's no real views from the space but it's creatively designed and features a nice, clean, and uncluttered ambiance (space heaters, fire pits, plants). San Francisco has very few rooftop bars and knowing of this somewhat under the radar space will definitely up your street cred. Live music was performed indoors, in a room in which some people had reserved their tables. Those wanting to watch the performers were left standing in the wide doorway on the side while also being advised not to block said doorway. It was a slightly odd arrangement (though not all were there to watch the music). I think live performers would be better enjoyed if they performed outside on the rooftop, or even in the other indoor space. Regardless of a few blips or grumbles about things I had a great time here and wouldn't hesitate to go to another event at this venue or - though I'm not generally in the habit of drinking at hotel bars - return for an al fresco cocktail before dark on a long summer day. read more
