We decided to go here again. And they only had the hightop in which we sat in last time and the stools have no backs. So, they were able to move us to a booth when one became available. The food was good and the portions were large. The service was okay.

We did our company party here. They worked with our very sad budget of $25 per person-yes $25 per person in SF - other venues in the area wouldn't even let us walk in the door with that budget but they worked with us. The food was OK nothing too exciting, drinks were good. The staff was amazing, very friendly very helpful and kept up with our large party. I haven't been here besides for our company party so I don't know how it is for a regular meal but I am sure it's just as nice.

The food here was pretty good, albeit on the heavier side, more akin to bar food than a nicer sit-down meal. Our table shared the gnocchi, mussels, garlic bread, and some cocktails which were overall very flavorful and well portioned. The ambiance was a little weird - we were seated upstairs which was tackily decorated in multicolored wall-draped string lights. It very much felt like a low-end corporate team building event venue than a proper restaurant. The music choice was also off (EDM covers of pop songs that charted 10 years ago - think Ed Sheeran, the Weeknd, and Clean Bandit on repeat) although we noticed the downstairs speakers were playing something different so maybe this was a technical one-off. I suspect being seated upstairs also contributed to the slower service. We had to ask for more water, dessert menus, and the bill, and other tables around us did the same. I would come back here to try their other food and drink offerings but for first-timers would advise to set your expectations lower than what the pictures and menu online telegraph.

Total disappointment. We came here in NYE. We made a reservation with a 24 hour credit card cancellation fee, which would've been totally fine if it were actually a cool place, but it was so very not. There was no one there, maybe two people downstairs and two people upstairs. We had a group of 7 and reserved bar seating. The bar was completely empty, but they still brought us upstairs to a table next to a couple, who were the only people up there. It was super awkward because there was no music. It was completely silent and empty. It almost felt haunted or like we were being punked. Ok whatever. We asked to move so they moved us to a high top downstairs. Don't forget that there was basically no one there it was a little early, 6:30 PM, but it's not like it was 2pm. OK, whatever, let's make the best of it. We were excited about the $1 Oysters, it was basically why we went there. They had the sign out, we were ready to go. No oysters. It's not like they could've run out when there was no one there, and if they didn't want to serve the dollar oysters on New Year's Eve because it was "so crowded," I get it... But bring the sign inside. We all had a drink and shared some sweet potato fries, and garlic fries. I only tried the sweet potato fries, and they were pretty darn good, and I heard that the garlic fries were good too. I don't even remember the drink, so it clearly didn't stand out. I'm not sure why I gave it three stars. Now that I'm reading all this if it's more like a two star, but I like to give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having a really, really, really bad day. Standouts: the fries.

It was easy to make a reservation through OpenTable in advance. They let us choose where to sit when we arrived on a Friday evening. The place had a welcoming environment, with bar seating as well as indoor and outdoor dining tables available. Service was great, the staff was friendly and professional and didn't neglect us even though we were the only ones sitting outside. It took about 15-20 minutes for our food to be ready. Got the crispy fried chicken with roasted potatoes and jalapeno coleslaw, and the king salmon plate with a delectable lobster cream sauce, mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus on the side. The asparagus was a bit tough, but the rest of the salmon dish was pretty good. The crispy fried chicken was okay, a bit on the dry side though I appreciated that the fried batter/skin wasn't oily nor too heavy. I enjoyed the roasted potatoes for sure, slightly browned on the outside, just a nice texture and taste. The fried chicken dish also came with a side of ranch which I took advantage of to add flavor to my items. I'd return to try something else, maybe for a special occasion or when we have a reason to splurge, as I'm pretty sure the best items on the menu are the priciest.

$1 Oysters should bring everyone to Toy Soldier.

Fallout from the pandemic and its aftermath wrought the demise of several Belden Place restaurants but a handful survived. Toy Soldier is one and - based on a recent weeknight visit - they're doing everything they should to remain open. By this I mean: * $1 oysters Monday - Friday from 4 - 6pm; * Some of the best Garlic Parmesan Fries ($12) ever; and * Bottles of red, white, and rose wines priced as low as $28 Need more of a reason to go? Even when I worked nearby I was never enamored of the alley that comprises Belden Place. I'm still not; I like the indoor space more. Toy Soldier's interior is simple and small, and I enjoyed what they had to offer from a seat at the bar.* There I was able to watch the US Open (2 televisions) while enjoying wine, those fries, and Roasted Brussels Sprouts (with red onion and brown butter, $12, also delicious). Had I known of the oyster happy hour deal I'd have been enjoying those as well. Toy Soldier was the perfect place to while away a couple of hours and I was surprised that workers in the area weren't flocking here for the deals. I mean: were I still working it might've been the sole reason to stop working from home. Sadly, the iconic Honey Bear mural that Toy Soldier's owners commissioned (from the artist Fnnch) were vandalized and subsequently removed, but the fact that they existed at all says good things about this place. With their stellar wine and oyster deals and delicious fries, the bar here deserves to be full when the workday is done. * Toy Soldier's upstairs is available for rental.

Where to begin? To be fair, this was during the incredibly busy JP Morgan conference week, so some grace is warranted. That said - party of 9 with a reservation. We were seated in the outdoor tent area. Not horrible, but definitely chilly. The tables were all on a decline, so water bottles and plates weren't stable and spills happened. Reservation was at 7pm. It was 745 before our first round of drinks arrived, 815 for appetizers. Dinner came just after 9 (everyone was SO hungry at this point)- for me, it was undercooked, lacking some of the ingredients for the dish, and overall cold and not good at all. Servers all had to be chased down (only reason our drinks came was someone from our party had enough and went to find someone). Ultimately, poor service, poor food, and wouldn't come back.

Came here for the happy hour $1 oysters from 5pm - 7pm. They're still working on the happy hour full menu coming out next week but the oysters were deliciously chilled and fresh. Thank you Allen for taking care of me. They have a nice bar area and booths and if you come with a big group, they even have an upstairs section and another little bar area with all the things needed for cocktails and beers.

Super disappointed. When my boyfriend and I arrived for our anniversary dinner, there was a dog just walking around inside. Super inappropriate to just have it NOT on a leash. What kind of place is this? We decided to leave after about 10 minutes of not receiving any service.

Bar area rented out for a private party

Came here for an engagement party they rented out the space for. Cute ambiance and they set up a pop up tent outside for people to come in and out to. Bar service was decent. Little slow to get to everyone at times and either ran out of things at the bar or had to run to a different part of the restaurant to get it. I didn't deal with any of the renting specifics, but as a guest had a nice time.

My friend reserved a room for a large birthday event at Toy Soldier. They offer four private event options, and I believe we were given "The Deck." It was very spacious, with a large open area for dancing, two bathrooms, and outdoor patio seating. There was also a bar exclusively for the event. The manager, bartender, and other staff were friendly and attentive. You can connect your phone and control the music, which was a nice touch. What I especially liked about the reservation was that there was no down payment required--we were just given a minimum spend of $750 worth of drinks. We only had about 30 people, but reaching the $750 minimum was very easy. The only issue we encountered was that the other room we were supposed to be in (The Canteen) still had customers, so we were moved to The Deck. Honestly, this "issue" worked out in our favor since we got a larger space, so I have no complaints. The staff handled it well, and we had an awesome time!

We were warmly greeted on arrival at the restaurant by Mariana - the charming hostess, & led to our table at the far end of the restaurant. The space is not too big so the tables are strategically arranged, making it a little narrow squeeze navigating between tables when people are seated. The sauce that accompanied the momos was so delectable, I had to request for another serving of bread to sop it all up! We also ordered the charred brussel sprouts & toasted grape salad and the gems of California beets salad - both were beautifully presented & combined a delicious blend of flavors. The food was amazing, the service attentive! We didn't want to have too big of a meal since we were heading to a show at the Herbst Theatre after dinner so we didn't order entrees or desserts. We plan to go back again soon. I would recommend trying out this neighborhood gem.

It seems like this place is an asian fusion brunch place incorporating french dishes into thai/asian themed dishes which is up our alley. We decided to get the Alcatraz Escape and the Brioche french toast which were recommended by the wait staff. The staff was generally friendly and accommodating but I can tell they were swamped and stressed out with all the people they were trying to serve. The food itself tasted decent, the Alcatraz Escape had a tasty flavor which incorporates tom yum paste (sweet, sour, tangy flavor) into their scramble with about 4 shrimps. The side of crispy chicken was good but nothing that stood out to us. The brioche was soft but there wasn't much flavoring besides the fruits and caramelized banana. It was served with evaporated milk which made the brioche soft but not adding much flavor to it. The price however was quite pricey. For two dishes as a side we paid around $78 with tax and tip.

The San Francisco burger scene has caught up, and Nopa's burger has lost its specialness...but that doesn't mean Nopa has. Nopa opened in 2006 inside a converted bank - high ceilings, a massive bar, a communal table, just - awesome vibes. From day one it became an industry restaurant - One of the few spots in the city where you could show up late night, order off a menu that changes daily, and know the food is going to be dialed in. They specialize in wood-fired cooking, which is why their thick cut, brined pork chop with baked beans is so popular - and...it's good, but their fried chicken is quickly becoming their best seller and THAT, was PERFECT. Crispy skin, juicy underneath, seasoned beautifully. But the dish that so perfectly encapsulates what Nopa is...was this salad. Just trout, and whatever was good at the farm that week. That's Nopa. Bartender wasn't present so the only drink options that morning were a mimosa or a bloody mary, but if you're there when the bartender is then definitely give their cocktails a try. They're good!

The hotel is unfortunately across from the shady tenderloin, but once you enter the lobby everything feels high end. Once on the rooftop we had a great spot with a great view. The service was spotty but the food was great. Especially the fried chicken. Order it! We hit this spot before a concert at the Warfield. The line for the Warfield wraps the block all the way to the front of the hotel. As we finished dinner we got right in line.

Overall very tasty! I really enjoyed the Mushroom Bao - definitely my favorite dish we ordered. The…read morebao was warm, the mushroom was crispy, and I enjoyed the pickled toppings. It was a bit spicy. The beet poke was an interesting combination - I'm impressed they were able to capture the essence of poke! The spicy sauce pizza was good - you can't tell it's vegan at all. The restaurant was very cozy and intimate. The staff were all really friendly! The food came out pretty quickly.

This is a really beautiful, upscale vegan option in San Francisco near Fort Mason. I took my mother…read morefor Mother's Day. I realized I had not added seating accommodation to my reservation and tried to call, but no one answered. When we arrived, the hostess told us we would not be able to sit in any of the currently empty booths because reservations were coming in later. We were seated at a table off the dining space near the kitchen, my mom was a little too chilly and the booth didn't have enough neck support. I expressed to the host that though I was sorry I had forgotten to add accommodation, that this was just not the way to handle the problem. I was able to speak to the manager, who had been outside taking orders and was clearly working very hard that day. (Her name is quite uncommon so I'm just going to call her M, but I really appreciate your help!) She asked me what my concern was, and I told her, at which point she asked me to wait nearby while she figured out if she could rearrange some tables for us. The bartender was incredibly kind and served me while I waited, and distracted me from imminent tears by sharing intricate details about each drink he was making. I learned do they have a myriad of health oriented cocktails, with ingredients like turmeric, ginger, and aloe liqueur. The manager returned and said that she had already seated my mother in a new space and escorted me to the table, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the meal. At the beginning of the menu, they list the ingredients that are currently in season, and at the back of the menu, there is a color wheel, telling you the benefits of the colors of food. (Purple foods can assist with memory and brain function!). We ordered the asparagus, which was in season, spicy cucumber, and the Aji grill for two. The tofu that came with the grill for two was my favorite thing that we ate. I think you can judge a vegan / vegetarian restaurant by their treatment of tofu. Perfectly seasoned with a crispy outside and I would come back just for this. The cauliflower steak was also pretty tasty. The cocktails are excellent, we tried the BLACKPINK and my mother tried the espressotini and we were really happy with both. I don't know how popular their bar scene is, but I imagine it would be a nice way to meet other vegan and vegetarian folks over light bites. Our waiter Daniel made sure to give us the Mother's Day special dessert the restaurant had created, which was an avocado Grenache with fresh berries. If the experience had started with less stress, this review would be five stars, but I'm very grateful to the staff for doing what they could to correct it and ensure that we had a great Mother's Day! I would love to visit again and update my review :)

Cilantro?thyme?) or some arugula, something to balance it out. Would be best to come with someone else (if you have someone to go with you, I didn't) and share more dishes, I think. The marinated artichokes were good, not amazing, but a large portion and pleasant enough. I wish they had more veggies or a salad option. The seats are not comfortable, this is not a place to come and relax with a book. The parklet seating is nicely sheltered from the breeze, but can be noisy. The music, outdoor setting, and service are all good. Flatbread was lovely and soft when hot, hardens to a crispy cracker when it cools. The Woody's sparkling N.A. rosé was a bit flat (flavor wise). I've had better ones (especially for the price). I'd definitely come back with a friend or a date. It was a depressing spot for dining solo, and it would be hard to come here with a bigger group.

The outdoor parklet was the perfect synthesis of indoor and outdoor. I'll definitely be back to try their "cheeky" hour with select discounted bites and drinks.
