Let me start with my party and I arrived early for our reservations and was carded walking in. I checked in with the hostess and she said our table wasn't ready but we were checked in. While waiting I noticed that the security guy at the door who was "carding" people wasn't carding everyone. Granted my party's age is 35+ so was annoyed that we got carded while others weren't. When our reservation time came, nothing from the hostess. While she sat other parties, I finally had to go back up and ask when our table was ready and of course it was. The place looked like the pictures however the pictures make this place look a lot nicer than what it actually is. And most of it looks better at the bar area than the actual seating area. Came for dinner with some friends right before the holidays, 6 of us total. Food was very much just okay.. really nothing special. There was 6 of us and no one really LOVED their food. Nothing was bad, but also nothing was great. Drinks were good, good variety of cocktails. Service was good as well, again- nothing crazy special. Server was nice, food came out timely. Came here twice now and both times have been pleasant experiences. 1st time was with a girlfriend and we had no reservations but was immediately seated and served. Avoid this venue if you are hosting a large group--they will absolutely overcharge you. When our group questioned the incorrect charges on our bill, management refused to handle it professionally. Instead, security immediately escalated the situation, and a bouncer physically grabbed me by the collar to force us out. Completely unacceptable, aggressive, and dishonest business practices. We just left the place and I have to say, the ambiance was super cute and I loved how the restaurant was super chill and played good music, We sat at a 2 top by the bar and we ordered deviled eggs, truffle Parmesan fried, and 2 vodka soda drinks (all but the fries were from the happy hour). We got our things, and we enjoyed our meal. The food was really good. The service however, it was not a good experience for me. The waiter did not come check on us once, I even made eye contact with them to get their attention but was unsuccessful. It took about 30 mins to get our check and it was the bartender who finally came to check on us. I was displeased how the service was because the server did not ask us if we would like refills on alcohol or our water. Popped in on a Sunday before a show and was pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. The Harlequin has that polished mid-century vibe without feeling stuffy, and the happy hour is absolutely worth a detour. It was busy with the convention crowd in full swing, but we still managed to snag a table and settle in for a drink and a bite. We popped up to the bar to get drinks and place food orders, and that was fine by us. Everything came out fairly quick given how busy it was. The steak frites were flavorful, but the cook temperature was inconsistent, with some spots being medium-rare and others medium-well (seems to be a thing if you see some other reviews), but I'd get it again. I was staying at a hotel next door and ended up coming here every night of my trip. The atmosphere is trendy and welcoming, and the bartender--shoutout to Manny--was the best. He made sure we had a great time every time we visited. Their happy hour from 4-6 has amazing oysters for $2 each and a good selection of cocktails. From the regular menu, the charcuterie board is generous and nicely presented, and all of their pizzas are tasty, especially the seafood one, which I didn't expect to like as much as I did! Overall the food & drinks are pretty good and atmosphere is nice. But holy wow the service is SLOW. They perhaps are short staffed? While I admit we had a group of 8 with us; I saw other tables have similar issues. 20-30 minutes for drinks to come out or simply forgotten. No stopping by to check in...we constantly had to flag someone down. Pros: Deviled Eggs, Truffle Risotto, Burrata Cheese...all quite delicious and plenty of flavor. Upon entering we realized we have been here before multiple times back in the day when we were always in SF. Nice place. My partner had a couple of Lemon Drops and I had a tequila and glass of red wine. Too bad the kitchen was closed since a midnight snack would have been good. More drinking establishments need to have some kind of food or packaged snacks to go along with drinks. If there was some snacks we would have stayed longer. Firstly -- I think I made a mistake visiting during Santa Con, secondly -- maybe SF just has too many other good bar options, but I was quite unimpressed by the overall vibe of this place. The overall atmosphere felt a little unclassy and the drinks were just ok. Nothing super original nor would I write home about them.
