Cocktails

Had walked quite a bit and was ready for a refreshing cocktail and an app so decided to pop in here to check it out. Its a pretty nice spot with elevated drinks and bar bites. We just walked up to the bar and it was friendly greeted and handed some menus. After perusing we opted for fried chicken bites and a couple of cocktails to fuel up and keep walking around. Both cocktails were expertly prepared and very tasty and balanced. Fried chicken bites hit the spot just right as a late afternoon snack. These were coated in a sweet sticky sauce that made them very delicious and couldn't stop eating them. Overall its a nice spot and a welcoming environment with craft cocktails and inventive bar bites. Stop in!

Tucked away in an alley from the Main Street, this bar can be easily to be missed. The inside is spacious with high ceiling, rustic feeling and plenty of casual lounges. The drinks were fine. The staff were helpful.

Came here twice this year--once for a friend's surprise engagement party, and another time for drinks when some friends were in the area for work. For the engagement party, there were special unique cocktails for the happy couple! The food was also yummy--bar food, chicken, sliders, charcuterie, mac n cheese... Service is friendly and helpful. Vibes are kinda dark academia--there's lush leather couches and the bar area is dark with lights from the drinks on the wall. Will be back with groups!

I recently held my 50th birthday party at Heartwood, and could not have been more thrilled with the event. The staff was professional, warm, and organized from inception to execution. The food was delicious, and then even let me personalize the cocktail list! They have space for a DJ, have multiple screens if you want a slideshow, and offer a Financial District location that is centrally located but also on a quiet side street to offer a little privacy. I can't recommend highly enough!

I work in HR at an office in the financial district so we decided to host our holiday party here! This is my third year coordinating our annual party and I have to say, working with Heartwood was the easiest/smoothest experience I've had so far!! They were super communicative, accommodating and overall kind. Our employees raved about how amazing the staff was and how great the drinks/appetizers were. I felt like I was truly able to enjoy the party as an attendee instead of working the whole time. Everyone had a great time and I owe it all to the team at Heartwood!

Date of Visit: 2/6/2025 Having a great Happy Hour drink with friends is one of the most relaxing things to do after work. Visited the Heartwood located in financial district in San Francisco on a Thursday evening, and it was tucked in the Commercial Street with outdoor table and nice and cozy bar and sofa area. We were sat at the table closed by to the window, which has nice day light to take photos. Apple Propaganda $18 I got the gin based cocktail with green apple, juniper, pisco, bay leaf and elderflower tonic. The cocktail is very refreshing and not too sweet. Leaf Water $18 My friend got the tequila based cocktail with Jasmine green tea, honeydew shiso cordial, citrus, and shochu. There are a piece of shiso leaf in the glass, which added some flavor. Both cocktails were great!

Perfect venue for professional events with incredible atmosphere. Attended a Grammarly mixer at Heartwood and was thoroughly impressed by this Commercial Street gem. The industrial-chic design with exposed brick walls, beautiful tin ceilings, and warm wood accents creates such a welcoming yet sophisticated atmosphere. The space strikes the perfect balance for networking events - intimate enough for meaningful conversations but spacious enough to accommodate a crowd comfortably. The bartenders are clearly passionate about their craft, and it shows in every drink they prepare. Heartwood has that rare quality of being both professional enough for corporate events and inviting enough that you'd want to return for a casual evening with friends.

One gun martini and one vodka martini. This size was the free one with lunch a little smaller than a typical one.

The lunch special of buy a salad or sandwich and get a "free" = 0.01 martini was amazing! My friend and I really loved the salads we ordered. Especially in a city where eating out is so expensive these hearty and filling salads were a pleasant surprise. Full disclosure I went only because I saw an instagram reel but I would recommend anyone else check it out if you are already downtown. The one star off was due to a smell of ammonia when tables were being wiped down between patrons. It was really strong and my friend and I were so confused the first time the smell arose. It eventually faded away until the next table was wiped down.

Newer spot nestled in an alley closed off to traffic so you're in for a treat to slip into some trouble where you can't be easily traced. Heartwood offers a great lounge feel in the heart of FIDI that you can pop into with a large group on a Friday afternoon to start your day. Service was great and quick. Drinks more than just appetizing, very tasty with good quality. While we were here there wasn't a type of music that would define this but they did play some RNB at a light volume so conversation can still be had. Overall cool little spot, I recommend coming for cocktails and some small bites (sliders and calamari were solid options). I'll be back to slide through for the Órale and Oasis cocktails! Yum

very cute bar for happy hour! no actual hh prices, but it's not bad for fidi area. the food and drinks were all really good - smashburgers were my fav!

We walked in on Friday evening for some food and drinks. We were surprised to find the place empty. While we were there, a few other people came in, but it wasn't very busy. The food was decent overall. However, the fried chicken bites were way too salty, the smashed burger was dry. The Treasure Pig in a blanked was delicious, and I'd definitely order it again. The Avocado & Crab was interesting, but we couldn't taste any crab. It actually tasted a lot like canned tuna. The cocktails and wine were delicious, and the ambiance was great. The service was also friendly. We'd probably come back for drinks again, but the food was a bit hit-or-miss.

My friend and I got the lunch deal (1 lunch item plus a free drink). I got the Caesar salad and an espresso martini. Both were good! Would come again for a work lunch. Don't think I would come for dinner but it was great for catching up with a friend over lunch.

Dirty martini

Free martini at lunch? Yes, please. Was pleasantly surprised that both the (dirty) martini and the Cobb salad I ordered were to my liking as well. The atmosphere was open and easy to converse in, with cozy tables.

While we were outside, we made friendly conversation with a bartender. I overheard another bartender come out for a cigarette and call him by name, so I jokingly used his name while asking if we could come in. At that point, the bartender became extremely aggressive, got in my face, and said, "Say his name one more f*cking time," repeatedly. I was genuinely confused and asked what she meant. Shortly after, a friend who was already inside came out simply to check on us and see why we were still outside. The bartender then told her to "get the f*ck out of my face" and instructed staff not to let her or us in, even though my friend hadn't done anything wrong. It was so confusing and extremely inappropriate. The behavior was unnecessarily hostile and disrespectful. This bar does not treat its customers with basic courtesy, and that bartender showed zero professionalism or customer service skills.

The Pomegranate Nice with non-alcoholic gin instead of non-alcoholic tequila, Negroni Sbagliato, and Blood Orange Gimlet were solid. I first walked through its…read moredoors in the late 1990s after moving to San Francisco, but the bar itself dates back to 1933, opening right as Prohibition was ending. It was founded by Anton "Tony" Nikitovich and quickly became a gathering place for the neighborhood's Italian and Croatian communities, where people came to swap stories, argue politics, and enjoy a stiff drink after a long day. And honestly, that tradition carried on well into the years when many of us became regulars. I hadn't been back for a few years until recently, when I decided to stop in again. The bar wasn't overly busy, but a handful of neighborhood folks were sitting at the counter, trading stories over their drinks. It felt instantly familiar. Not much has changed since the early 2000s when I used to come here regularly, and that's exactly what makes Tony Nik's special. Step inside, and it still feels like a mid-century film set: tufted leather seating, a long wooden bar that's seen nearly a century of San Francisco history, and that iconic neon sign glowing outside. While much of the city has reinvented itself again and again, Tony Nik's somehow held onto its soul. It's a grown-up bar without being stuffy, no loud club music, no trendy gimmicks, just well-made cocktails, a classic jukebox, and an atmosphere that feels earned rather than manufactured. The bar stayed in the Nikitovich family for decades, and the current owners were wise enough to preserve both the name and the vintage character Tony originally created. It's one of those rare places that reminds you what North Beach used to be, and, thankfully, still is.
