Comstock is always a fun time, so long as you can get in! Located next to North Beach, it's almost always crowded especially on a Friday night as folks roam around for a fun happy hour. The interior is quite large, with wooden booths and a mix of other seating, including at least a couple of lounge seats and the usual bar style stools. In addition to the great drinks, the biggest draw at Comstock is the live music! The interior gets pretty loud at times, but you can still hold a conversation across the table if you try. Probably not the best for a date night conversation spot. Servers are attentive and friendly. For this visit, I snagged a booth with five other friends on a Saturday evening. We got a round of drinks, and my Pisco Punch was great. First time trying it, but it's just like a pisco sour with a bright crisp tang to it. The french fries were great to share. We also got a bourbon vanilla pudding to share but it was pretty small and better for two people at most. The space right at the cross between Chinatown and North Beach is historic. Comstock serves classic cocktails, beer, wine and food. There is even live music most nights. This place deserves 4.5 stars This was the third time I have been to Comstock. I come here with my colleagues every time I visit San Francisco. I love the ambiance. The space is well laid out with comfy seating, a large bar and live jazz. It has all the ingredients for a great night. The servers are always great. Came here when a dinner I went to was as disappointing and I was still hungry. The service oscillated between gruff and somewhat aggressive (the host) and downright quirky (the server). We got a bunch of small dishes, with the highlights being the bacon covered dates and the oysters. The Brussel sprouts were way too sauced, but otherwise pretty good as well. I went here on a Friday night with two of my girlfriends, and overall, I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5! The music was amazing, the ambience was spot-on, and the drinks were great -- exactly the kind of vibe you want for a fun night out in the city. The only reason I'm knocking off one star is because of the service. Our server seemed a bit irritated that we only wanted drinks and didn't order food. As soon as we asked for the check, they immediately placed a "Reserved" sign on our table, which made it feel like they were eager to move us out for the next party. That said, the overall atmosphere and quality still make this place worth visiting. Next time, I'll definitely sit at the bar instead of a booth -- I think it would be a better experience -- and maybe even plan to stay for dinner since the food coming out looked great! Stopped into Comstock Saloon for a couple drinks while bar hopping in San Francisco's Chinatown. When you entered there are two entrances, the first entrance being for the restaurant, and the second entrance leading to the bar. Also, the bar is very much New Orleans/jazz themed and they even had a jazz band performing upstairs. For my first drink, I ordered the Barkeep's Whimsy (scotch, sweet vermouth, orange, cherry brandy) which was smooth and had hints similar to an old fashioned. We came here for the Pisco Punch after my friend saw something on a show month's prior and knew we would be visiting the area on our girls trip. When we arrived, the place was really busy but as fate would have it, there were three bar stools (and three of us) along the wall near the entrance. We sat, and we ordered our Pisco Punch. YUM. Best. Burger. In. SF! I've been back to comstock many times and while it is still one of my favorite cocktail bars in the city, it is now my favorite place to get a burger! I was in the area to see the illusionist at the palace theatre and had planned to get a nightcap here afterwards. We were feeling a bit peckish so we ended up ordering the burger.
