My family was looking for a spot to eat after an event at Herbst Theater and we saw that Bar Jamon was still open at 9pm. Even though it was closing hour, the staff welcomed us in and we didn't feel rushed at all. Some favorites from the cold tapas side were the chorizo and manchego which were served with a delicious bread. Among the warm tapas, we tried the mushroom, asparagus, and patatas bravas, which was on the saucier side but that could easily be adjusted. Lastly, the ribeye was a highlight and prepared well, with portions being just right for five people. We were served by Christian throughout the dinner who turned out to be one of the owners. Bar Jamon lowkey a whole vibe dim lighting, clean modern aesthetic, big windows w the city lights going crazy at night - it's giving upscale but still chill. perfect for a link, date night, or just kicking it w friends. energy was just right, not too loud, not dead either. whole spot felt curated fr, even the bathroom was aesthetic (peep the pics)- super clean + stylish. service was on point too, staff stayed tapped in without hovering and everything came out smooth. plus we found street parking like 2 short blocks away (gotta read the fine print on the parking spaces) so it was easy to pull up. and the owner?? awesomeee fr, super welcoming and really adds to the whole experience. Food was fire too. I had the salmon plate (pretty sure it was the wild salmon pics attached) fresh, well-seasoned, and plated clean w mushrooms + greens that brought it all together. we also tried the artichoke and that one was nice char, super flavorful. I give this place a 5/5 on their poke salmon - such unique flavors - with ponzu and almonds and avocado - fish was super fresh! The shrimp was 3.5/5 - the bread was fantastic - the lemon was too much and the spiciness was not high enough for my liking. Though they were kind enough to give me a spicy sauce. The cocktails are 5/5 - they were pretty looking, tasty and in a large quantity. We told the bar tender we had a show to catch and he made them so fast! The service was exceptional 5/5 - everyone was friendly and courteous. It was Saturday night and not many people were there - so the vibe for me was 3/5. This place has a small menu and I loved that! Driving to the city for a show and licked upon this place. Really cute place for tapas and great cocktails. We enjoyed the pan con tomate with fish on top, the salmon, the cauliflower and then tangerine sorbet. The papas bravas was pretty blah. One weird thing is our server who was u think also an owner couldn't answer any of our menu questions. Also never even tried to find out so that he could come back to tell us. What I do know is the executive chef is excellent and all of his dishes (minus potatoes) is spot on! read more

Food was great but unfortunately the service was lacking. Our server was very pleasant and sweet, but there was no greeting when we arrived and quite a delay between our tapas and the main. It's really too bad because the flavors were great but I can't recommend, especially if you're trying to make a show after dinner. read more

Located near the symphony, multiple theatres in the theatre district, concert halls, the opera, and Hayes Valley, Bar Jamon is very centrally accessible via Muni on Van Ness, the Civic Center BART station, or bike! We walked in with no reservation when we were early for a part nearby and snagged 2 coveted seats at the bar. It was bustling and busy just before 9pm on New Years Eve. We learned that they'd been open for 8 days! Service was wonderful and personable and friendly and fun. We tried the sangria and a margarita. They were reasonably-priced for SF. I cannot rave about the sangria enough! I loved the cinnamon flavor. It was unique and complex and my partner loved his margarita. There were flashing lights and cool artwork and plants and decor. The music seemed Spanish-influenced as well--"Hero" by Enrique Igleisia, anyone? Seats were plush and lush. Though we didn't try any food, the people next to us enjoyed their patatas bravas and a variety of tapas plates. With a quick glance, clientele seemed diverse in terms of ages and backgrounds. The food is excellent. This review is about service. I love the concept of Bar Jamon and hope to go there again at some point, but from my perspective, they have no business being open to the public until they fix the glaring issues with their service. We were served an alcoholic drink when a non-alcoholic drink was ordered and it happened at a table next to us as well. This kind of mistake could be a lot worse than just "getting it wrong." The gaps between courses were unconscionable and there seemed to be a complete lack of awareness of this on the part of the staff. I truly hope that they are able to make the appropriate adjustments because I am a big fan of what they are trying to do, but I will not be able to dine there again until I am convinced that things have changed. read more

Wonderful menu, delicious food, attentive service. Even if they weren't open late (which we so appreciate) we would be big fans and we'll be back often. We dropped in after Nicola Benedetti's concert at Davies Hall on Sunday night, so glad we could get dinner after the show. Chicken croquet, patatas bravas, gambas, mushrooms -- all delicious. And Albariño on the wine list (huge plus). The Mayor's Martini was a great start to the meal. We dined for years at Zarzuela on Russian Hill for tapas. Now we've found a new tapas home and I expect we'll be at Bar Jamon often. read more

Went here for a private happy hour event before Christmas. Overall, a typical bar venue and it was a smaller space to be able to mingle. This is more of a local happy hour spot if you live or work in the area, versus a destination type spot (I live in San Jose). If you are looking for a smaller venue to host your own private event, this might be an option. read more

Nice location for pre-ballet or symphony meals. The food was solid with some inventive twists to the classic tapas. The tortilla came topped with Dungeness crab - very rich. The jamon and cheeses were nice. The pan con tomate, usually one of my faves, had way too much tomato to be classic, though was ok. The mushrooms came with smoking (yes, smoking) rosemary. Drinks were solid as was the wine selection. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I do wish they had more of the classic tapas as well, though... this leaned very rich. My stepmom & I had an INCREDIBLE experience last night. Craft cocktails were brought to our table as a welcome. We went with an assortment of "small plates" --they were plentiful and not small really. Everything was GORGEOUS and TASTY. The decor is pleasing and the acoustics are great for conversation. I stop at Bar Jamon on my way to a theater production across the street (New Conservatory Theatre Center). I was greeted and shown a seat at the bar. Staff advised me of a few options since I didn't have a lot of time before the play started. I ordered the Patatas Bravas which were delicious. The staff especially the bartending staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is beautiful and comfortable and I will return. read more
