The food and ambience is delicious. it's expensive. One glass of wine is like $40 minimum. If you want an experience, enjoy for a fine dining then its a place .

Hand on heart, Verjus is one of the best gems in the city of SF! I've been here 2 times and both times have been absolutely incredible! The service is great and the menu while limited, is perfectly curated. The ambiance is romantic and vibe, and I love how every table has fleur de sel, black pepper, and good olive oil! The mussels on toast was my favorite bite of 2025! The mussels were succulent and fresh, and beautifully balanced on a crispy piece of bread. I cannot rave enough about this dish! We also tried the lightly tossed salad, which is refreshing and piled high! The manchego sausage is a good meaty bite, the bread is crusty with perfect butter, the beets were well balanced, the fondue is a must, but the pièce de résistance is the pain perdu. The first time I had the pain perdu, I actually think I shed a tear. It is absolutely perfect with no flaws. When I took my dad, he immediately ordered another one before he finished his first. I love Verjus and I send anyone who will listen there!

I WENT AGAIN and still continue to be one my my top places in sf. the dry aged duck i got last time was no longer available, unfortunately but got the confit and salmon entree. it was really good but honestly i think the appetizers at verjus are the star of the show. escargot was really great and refreshing perfect size, came removed from shell. AND DUCK LIVER MOUSE ugh she is too good. the salad was light and refreshing good touch to our protein heavy meal. OMELETTE wow such a simple dish to be executed so yummily with the crème fresh. our waiters andrew and adam were super awesome. PAIN PERDOU is the was the highlight must get. i will be back again, please recognize me

I couldn't tell you exactly what we ordered other than the fact that Verjus sticks very close to its French roots and everything is worth trying and ordering. My favorites were definitely the potatoes and the egg omelette. The ambiance, service and wines were great and delicious, I will definitely be coming back more after work as long as I can secure reservations!

Minus one star because I have not eaten here! So the rating is based on my experience with the wine bar portion of the restaurant. This place was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. The wine selection was abundant and the service was good. We did have to wait a little to be seated inside, and the way they do that is by writing your name down on a chalkboard which was interesting but at least you can keep track of who is next. Our first red was ok, But the star of the show was a Riesling that my friend picked that wasn't too sweet and not too dry! Very smooth and the vibes continued from Golden Sardine. We trickled in and still felt like we were having our euro summer in October. I'd love to come back and experience the dining before walking over to the bar for a night cap.

Verjus was absolutely incredible. From the moment you walk in, the ambience hits you -- dim lighting, a lively but comfortable buzz, and a vibe that just feels good. It's always busy, but in the best way. The staff is extremely professional, welcoming, and truly impressive. The service is impeccable. They know the menu inside and out without ever having to glance at it -- every detail, every ingredient, every recommendation delivered with confidence and great energy. Crazy how they can remember it all! I typically don't love French food, but this place is a completely different experience. Nothing is overly saucy; everything has real, layered flavor. The scallops were outstanding, and the mozzarella-stuffed sausage was unforgettable. Honestly, every single dish we tried was delicious. I can't wait to go back. This spot is an instant favorite.

Pain perdu french toast dessert $16

6% surcharge. 4.8/5: The pain perdu dessert ($16) is excellent. It's very custardy, without being mushy. The outside has a shatteringly crisp caramelized coating, and the caramel sauce is super tasty. The scoop of ice cream on top is a plus. There is no menu online on their website, and no printed menu for the mains; you have to look at the movie theater style sign for the menu.

Cute date spot with moody ambient lighting and a very cool theater style menu. We had a patient waiter who explained all their dishes to us giving details to how it's made and what he liked. It felt very natural. We both had a glass of wine, had a few oysters, pate, their monk fish 'stew', and their omelet. Food was enjoyable. Everything from the decor to the ambiance and steady flow of people reminded me of eating in Western Europe (no particular part and not even an area of France, but a more general approach to dining and eating out). If you're looking for a fun wine and dine, date spot, would recommend.

We were lucky to be seated at a counter table facing the street so we got to people watch while enjoying the food! We got the chicken liver mousse, the butter with radish and the prix fixed menu (their last day serving it) which included the omelette with Boursin and the pate en croute. For dessert we got the chocolate mousse. It was all so incredible and reminded us of Paris. The service was also really good, they put a candle on my dessert as it was my birthday.

I don't think this place is necessarily worth the hype. As a wine bar I felt underwhelmed by their choice of glass, it made the experience feel cheaper. We ordered the raw scallops, duck confit, and house pate. We also had their fresh bread. I would say the best dish of the night was the fresh bread and butter - this is the one thing I'd go back for. The pate was lackluster and the duck confit was good, but definitely didn't have a wow factor to it. The raw scallops were delicious of course, but the prices here don't really fit the rating I'd give the food.

Lost for words as to how divine the pain perdu was. Everyone says it's amazing but you don't realize how much until you get a bite of heaven. The caramel is decadent yet not overwhelmingly sweet. The toast is burnt to perfection or caramelized I should say on top. A top 10 dessert for sure, reminds me a lot of the caramel and richness of a sundae from angler. Wine was also great! We split a bottle between 5 people and had two glasses out of it. We didn't have a reservation and were able to get seated, at a communal table but we were ok with that.

Verjus is an elevated wine bar in Jackson Square! We stopped by for a quick brunch. The pain perdu was delicious enough to make me stop by again just for it.

Was finally able to snag a reservation here for a Tuesday night. Arrived a little early and were seated right away. They do seat everyone on stools, so you have to hang your jacket on a coat rack - they do have a few scattered throughout. The space is gorgeous and we were sat right by the open kitchen. One thing to note is that the menu is on the marquee and we had to crane our necks a bit to read it. We started with their special escargot which were buttery and garlicky perfection. The fondue was very funky in a good way. The liver mousse was phenomenal and the bread was perfect with it. The Boursin omelet was so creamy and delicious. We also had the duck confit which was pretty well done, but is better at L'Ardoise. The standout of the night was their pain perdu dessert. Overall, a little pricey and very loud, but a solid one to try.

    Ask the Community - Verjus

Is there a sit down bar?

Yes and they take walk ins for the bar

Does the daily menu typically includes at least a few vegetarian items?

Recommend the omelette and sunchokes, and save room for the crullers

When does the evening rush begin? Will it be crazy packed at 5:30 on a Friday?

    Assume so

Does it take reservations for 4 people?

No reservations. It's not a typical sit down restaurant. You order at the bar and their menu is listed on a big movie theater installation in the larger room.

I will say if you make a reservation (I'd recommend, it's a small place and gets busy) be sure to be prompt as part of our group was running about 10 minutes late, and the servers kindly let us know we only had the table for an hour and a half, which is fairly strict on weekends.

I also appreciated the non-alcoholic options, including my favorite Fentiman's rose lemonade. I would definitely recommend this place, especially for happy hour. My only small critique is the restroom, since the entire restaurant is so classy and chic, it would have been the perfect finishing touch if the restrooms matched the same vibe.

We started off with different wines, some that Tom recommended based on what we told him we didn't like or did like. He apologized for our previous experience and was genuinely a nice guy. Honestly it's very admirable for a business owner to take feedback to heart and want to incorporate it. Plus he's a really cool guy when you get to know him. The staff was busy running around but still made time to come check on us. Our final verdict is we came on a bad day. This time we got the actual Waystone experience. We finally got to try the chicken bites with a creamy aioli, fries with yogurt sauce, and the star of the show was the Mac and cheese. I once saw a harpist who made me feel like I was floating inside the music. No cover, no pressure, just ridiculously good musicians making the whole place glow. One thing I love: the rotating local art. The walls change every so often as new artists take over, and it completely shifts the energy of the space. You might not love every piece, but that's kind of the point--it's alive, it's personal, and it's supporting real artists in SF. And if you do love something, you can take it home (yep, everything's for sale). Whether you're here for the jazz, the wine, the art, or the people.. waystone shows up with soul. I'd give it six stars if I could.
