Came here for a first date, so the restaurant had some serious pressure. Thankfully, it understood the assignment. The setting is hard to beat, right on the water with an incredible view of the Bay bridge that basically does have the flirting for you. The ambience strikes that perfect balance between classy and relaxed, making it easy to have a conversation without shouting across the table. The food? Absolutely amazing! Every dish made me wonder if I should be paying more attention to my date or what was on my plate. Fortunately, both were worth the attention. The conversation flowed, the service was great, and by the end of the night I couldn't tell if I was falling for the person across from me or the chef. Either way, I'd call that a successful evening. Chefs meat and cheese, delivered to us without information on what was presented on the dish (type of cheese, type of meats). It was overall delicious the jamon itself was worth every penny. Goodbye to our old friend Coqueta Although SF has many very nice restaurants, we've kept touristy Coqueta in our regular rotation while visiting from Paris and NYC for many years, primarily due to an incredibly welcoming staff. Due to a physical challenge, I am accompanied by a trained service canine. During an empty Thursday evening at Coqueta, general manager Harry Tanielian approached my service canine, distracted her, and proceeded to lecture me, due to the fact that she had simply gotten up to stretch as we were preparing to leave past closing time. He took great issue with the fact that she had stood up. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, a legitimate service dog can only be denied if the animal is out of control, not housebroken, or poses a direct threat to health and safety, none of which apply to my specially trained canine. Mr. Tanielian's actions were especially concerning, given that the restaurant was empty and no concerns were raised by the few patrons or friendly staff, yet he went out of his way to eviscerate me. No complaint has ever been lodged during my 20+ years of global travel with a service canine. In fact, I am accustomed to compliments related to my service canine, and even received a nice thank-you letter from the flight attendants on our recent transcontinental flight to SF. Not only is discrimination unacceptable and ugly, it is illegal. I assume Michael C. would have been disappointed by Harry Tanielian's actions. I plan to submit an ADA complaint with the U.S. Justice Department, elaborating my experience with Mr. Tanielian. read more

Lovely restaurant in the SF harbor. My colleagues and I stopped by for some pre-dinner drinks in their indoor glass covered bar area. I opted for the simple yet delish Work Vineyard Rose. Came here with a friend for lunch and absolutely loved the ambiance and service here. We weren't super hungry when we arrived so sharing an assortment of smaller tapas was perfect. Stuffed Medjool Dates Skewers / Pintxos ($4 each): Loved the cheesy date flavor on these but these were definitely on the smaller size for the price. I would get if you want to try something unique, but not if you're looking to be full by the end of the meal. Salmon Ahumado ($16): My favorite tapa of the meal. The amount of smoked salmon was generous with the perfect drizzle of honey and truffle. It was such a yummy combination. Asparagus ($17): The Romesco sauce definitely had a kick to it! This was good, but didn't feel super special and the sauce was hard to coat properly. Pulpo ala Parilla ($24): The octopus was grilled really well and had a really nice charred flavor, but it was seasoned to be on the saltier side for me. It also felt like it was a bit on the oilier side. Gambas Negras ($20): Yummy shrimps and the bread paired well. One of our go-to spots when we visit SF and can't make up our mind on where to go last minute. It's right on the pier which makes it convenient. We've sat at the bar area each time which is a bit small, but it works. You get nice views of the bay and windows for people watching. The food is really good- we got the same thing we got months ago and noticed some serving differences in size and taste- good but could be better. We've gotten multiple drinks; there were some inconsistencies but they were tasty. They're always busy, but staff and service are wonderful when they are available. Dined here for NYE and the ambiance was top notch, it definitely feels bougie... because it is! We had 8 PM reservations since we wanted to catch the fireworks by the bridge. We arrived a little early, but they were very accommodating, which we appreciated! I will say this isn't really a kid-friendly place. We had our nephews with us and they didn't have a high chair available. It's understandable given the vibe of the restaurant, and it wasn't a huge issue, but it would've been nice if there was an option. We ordered the seafood paella and the tomahawk. The seafood paella was GOOD 10/10 very flavorful and definitely a highlight. The tomahawk, though expensive, was a bit underwhelming... The reason for my 4 stars: the drinks were really good, and the staff truly elevated the experience especially the bartenders. It was opened back in 2013 with the lead of Michael Chiarello. Combining local California ingredient with Spanish tapas cooking. 2018 Cvne Tempranillo $18 Our friend got the tempranillo from Rioja region in Spain. Guava Mojito $17 Husband got the guava mojito made with minted charged white rum, lime, and minted cane sugar. Sweet and sour with thick guava foam on top. Paradise Gardens $17 I ordered the paradise gardens made with lemon and basil vodka, mango liquor, pomegranate, lemon, and dragon fruit air. The taste of pomegranate was very forward and very refreshing. 2023 Work Vineyard Rosé $18 This Rosé is from Napa Valley. Our friend ordered this to pair with tapas. Jamon Iberico de Bellota "5 Jotyas" $45 We got the nice jamon from Iberico. This jamon was just carved, on top decorated with pure bread and made with acorn-fed jamon iberico. Gambas Negras $27 Four pieces of gulf prawns was poached in olive oil and with black garlic chili sauce. Pulpo a la Parilla $23 I also ordered the Spanish octopus legs wood grilled with red sauce and Pimeton confit potatoes on the side. I was visiting San Francisco for the first time from out of town, and Coqueta was hands down one of the best dinners of the trip. The cocktails and wine set a perfect tone, and the arroz negro was the showstopper of the night. Jet black squid ink rice loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams, roasted red peppers, and peas served in a classic paella pan. It looks dramatic but trust me, it is NOT burnt. Rich, perfectly executed, and absolutely delicious. Dessert was equally impressive, a caramelized cheesecake with shaved coconut and edible flowers paired with strawberry sorbet and berry compote. We live in Rocklin but Coqueta is worth a drive going to San Francisco. Every year we celebrate my birthday here. The food is really good, great ambiance because of the cozy setting and of course great staffs. Our first visit to Coqueta, and as San Francisco locals, we're glad we finally made it! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy the waterfront. The drinks were excellent--I highly recommend the Watermelon Mojito. It was refreshing and one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. We ordered the cheese and charcuterie board, which was delicious, but I do think it could use a few more slices of bread or crackers. Four pieces just weren't enough for everything on the board. Went to Coqueta for a bit of pregaming with small bites and drinks before a birthday party. I've been on a mission to find delicious grilled octopus and Coqueta almost delivered. The octopus itself was prepared very well. The texture was not chewy and the meat was soft, but the taste was a bit too salty for me. We also tried their chicken croquette. The space is welcoming and festive. Would totally come back here again and highly recommend it. I had a mushroom dish and an eggplant dish, both of which I would highly recommend. Of course, we had the cheese selection to share and he had the jamon iberico and croquets. They even brought him some churros as a birthday surprise. If I came back, I would order the crème brûlée. Had a get-together with cousins who were coming from different parts of the Bay Area so we converged here. It's been about 10 years since I last dined here for dinner with the family. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with a slight chilly breeze but being seated inside it was nice and warm. We sat near the kitchen but by the West side wall which was nice and sunny. Our server was Alan and we had a table of 4. We decided to order a "Porron" of Red Sangria which was quite pricey at $49. It's a traditional glass wine pitcher that has a spout used for communal wine drinking. IMO it seemed smaller than a traditional Sangria Ceramic Pitcher which usually holds more volume. The Sangria had a tang and the Ginger was pronounced. I don't think the Ginger added anything and I couldn't taste the berries nor apples? My cousin thought it needed some fizz so she asked Alan to bring some Sparkling Wine which was a glass of Brut Roederer($14). I thought it needed some sweetness as it didn't seem like the fruit was well-incorporated and soaked in so I asked for some Classic Syrup to sweeten it up. Alan brought a small glass of syrup and it tasted much better with the Sparkling Wine and just had a pizzazz to it. We ordered Patatas Bravas($14), Pulpo a la Parilla($23), Gambas Negras($20) where the waiter added another piece of shrimp(Gamba +$7) since one order only had 3 pieces. We ordered the Paella Tinta($72) and for dessert my cousin ordered Churros Fantasia($14) and an Americano($5). I really enjoyed the Patatas Bravas, Pulpo and the Paella was fine with perfectly cooked seafood. We just wished it had a crispy crust on the bottom. It came with a grilled lemon half, lemon aioli and pickled green peppers as condiments. I wish we had a carafe of water because it seemed like we had to ask a few times for refills. Just know you're in the Bay Area and Wharf area if you have sticker shock with some of the prices like the Paella and Sangria Porron. Plus, there's a 5% Service Charge for SF Mandates tacked onto your bill when dining in San Francisco. We parked across the street using the pre-paid parking lot we paid online which was cheaper than paying on the spot or at other lots. It got full by the time we got back to our car. We had fun catching up so you can't put a price on that and YOLO so you have to splurge sometimes. read more

The food was honestly pretty average and a bit on the pricey side, we ordered a variety of tapas, the potatoes, calamari, and grilled octopus were all solid. The rest of the tapas were all more cheese/dairy leaning, which I don't tend to enjoy as much (personal preference). The paella was good, but wish there were a bit more scallops. The building has blended heavy beamed indoor architecture with a classic and customer friendly outdoor seating area giving most any seat a decent city (Coit Tower) view or bay view. We had an 8:15 reservation and we arrived 2 minutes late but were seated immediately. No more than a minute after being seated we were offered water, 3 minutes after that we were asked whether we wanted drinks, not hurried, just attentive. Drinks: I don't usually go places because of the drinks, but Coqueta did some magical stuff with the Gin drink I ordered. We ordered 3 tapas: Deviled eggs, Octopus, and the beet salad. All three were great with the beet salad being the winner, so fresh, the beets were sweet, the whipped goat cheese as dressing and the hazel nuts made this a really amazing salad. The octopus was grilled perfectly and was so tender, and the baby potatoes were amazing. The deviled eggs were good, but maybe not quite enough for the price. The main course, yes, of course we ordered a paella, we're not Barbarians. As my wife is vegetarian we order the veggie option and 12 hours later I'm still thinking about the flavors in that rice. The veggies were good, but the green cauliflower didn't work, undercooked and blah. We would order that paella again in a heart beat! Finally, we wrapped up with dessert. We ordered the Crème Catalan (basically a Spanish version of Crème Brule) and it was fantastic, so creamy, just enough cinnamon and not too sweet, except for the caramelized top, my wife and I fought over that, very sweet, but oh so tasty.
