A tasty waterfront restaurant with specialty cocktails and lots of tapas to choose from..despite Saturday crowds, we were seated right away on their patio, and there were also seats abailable in the bar and restaurant areas. Their patatas bravas are excellent, our friend enjoys their quirky gin and tonics. I enjoyed my sangraia, and my husband enjoyed his negroni. We had a leisurely enjoyable time on a sunny day on their patio. Olives were good too!
I always would walk by Coqueta whenever I was in the area and finally made the choice to stop by 30 minutes after they opened on a beautiful Saturday morning. Seated outside we proceeded to look at the menu with our server, Michael explaining the sections of the menu. Everything was so good and the sangria was just right as the temps outside were in the high 70s. On my next visit and having looked at the pics on Yelp I want to order that platter of seafood paella as it Spiers's the rice is prepared slightly moist unlike when I had paella in Barcelona where it is prepared dry. 5 solid stars for our first time visit.

If you are ever in San francisco I highly recommend this establishment at Embarcadero. They specialize in tapas but we ordered their seafood paella and were extremely satisfied. What an experience to have tapas at Coqueta. The service was phenomenal! Our server was extremely nice attentive and not overbearing. The food menu is exquisite. The taste is great. I particularly want to bring attention to the huevos nacionales and the duck and pork meatballs which were delicious and could be shared with a friend. Overall great meal and I would definitely come back!
This remains a top restaurant in SF - the setting is gorgeous, service is consistently great, and the food is delicious! This last time we went and I really enjoyed our meal, but I can't say I was "blown away" by anything. The eggplant bikini brioche remained a favorite and was exactly how I remembered from years prior, and we really enjoyed our meal. The hamachi crudo was also great. The gin and tonics were creative and unique as well. I would definitely be happy to return, but can't say I was absolutely amazed as I remember being in the past. But overall excellent spot for a nice meal!
Entire staff were very friendly with a great sense of humor. Very welcoming. We ordered little bites to share - and all were very delicious Pan con Tomate - although not prepared exactly like they do in Spain, it was still very good. Gambas Negras - this was my favorite... shrimp was soft and flavorful.. and the oil they cook it in - be prepared to dip your bread in it. So good Patatas Bravas - yummy little pillow bites with a crunch Pulpo a la Parrilla - prepared very well... tender and delish! It is a very lively spot - they have a bigger restaurant area to the right when you walk in and a smaller venue to the left. Outdoor seating is also available and when it gets cold - they have heat lamps, but you should still bring a jacket as it gets really cold in the city at night. They really have a great spot! Would I go back? Yes!
We came here for lunch on Saturday. We started with drinks- Sutter smash and Carajilo. The sutter smash was bright and fresh whiskey based drink and tasty. The carajilo was a stronger espresso martini taste. We moved on to the Salmon Ahumado- large amount of smoked salmon resting on queso fresco and crouton. It was the best tasting item we had- perfectly balanced flavor. Next was the kale salad, which was light and well balanced flavors. We ended with Patatas Bravas, which could have used more salt. The service was excellent, overall good experience
.This is a Spanish tapas spot is right on the SF Embarcadero waterfront. The tapas are all authentic and high quality. Between the three of us we ordered: -Pan con Tomate ($6) -Boquerones ($3.99 each) -Patatas Bravas ($14) - OMG these were so unique! I haven't had them as mini potatos before -Pollo Croquetas ($15) - nice but not a standout -Pluma de Iberico ($46) The interior is stylish and the staff are polite and attentive.
Made an online reservation for our anniversary lunch. Turned out to be a beautiful day- checked in and we were seated immediately. Our server, Alan, was friendly and efficient. We received two complimentary flutes of champagne. Started with a Smokey Old Fashioned cocktail; very nice. Our Patatas Bravas was very good... nice aioli and red pepper sauce were good. Had the usual Gambas and the Pulpo dishes. Gambas were excellent; Pulpo was a tiny bit salty. Had the grilled baby squid special, which was tasty. The Mar Y Montana paella was nice and crispy. Dishes were delivered at a good pace. Overall, service and food were excellent.
Coqueta is perfectly situated right on the Embarcadero which adds to already beautiful ambiance of this restaurant. I made a reservation for a party of 4 through Resy and the process was super easy. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends, as it can be difficult to get a table as a walk-in. I tried once on a Friday night and my friends and I ended up dining at the bar side instead. The cocktails were fantastic but what really stood out was the service. One of our friends has celiac disease and cannot have any cross-contamination with gluten. The staff was exceptionally accommodating and knowledgeable. Huge shout out to EVERY server - we were definitely impressed that they knew the menu up and down, inside and out and could confidently answer all of our questions without having to check with the kitchen. That level of knowledge gave us, especially our gluten-free friend, so much peace of mind. For food, we ordered the deviled eggs, beet salad, grilled octopus, potatoes, pork shoulder and squid ink paella. Every dish was flavorful and nicely plated. We ended the meal with two desserts: the bread pudding (not gluten-free) and the crema catalana. Both were the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful dinner. We definitely left full and enjoyed taking a walk along the Embarcadero afterward to burn off a little bit of those calories :) Between the beautiful waterfront setting, excellent food, attentive service and exceptional accommodation for dietary restrictions, Coqueta is definitely a restaurant I'll be returning to and would highly recommend!
Came here for a first date, so the restaurant had some serious pressure. Thankfully, it understood the assignment. The setting is hard to beat, right on the water with an incredible view of the Bay bridge that basically does have the flirting for you. The ambience strikes that perfect balance between classy and relaxed, making it easy to have a conversation without shouting across the table. The food? Absolutely amazing! Every dish made me wonder if I should be paying more attention to my date or what was on my plate. Fortunately, both were worth the attention. The conversation flowed, the service was great, and by the end of the night I couldn't tell if I was falling for the person across from me or the chef. Either way, I'd call that a successful evening. If you're looking for a spot that stacks the odds in your favor for a first date, this is it. Just don't blame the restaurant if your date still talks more about the food than about you. jk.
Came here with a friend for lunch and absolutely loved the ambiance and service here. We weren't super hungry when we arrived so sharing an assortment of smaller tapas was perfect. Stuffed Medjool Dates Skewers / Pintxos ($4 each): Loved the cheesy date flavor on these but these were definitely on the smaller size for the price. I would get if you want to try something unique, but not if you're looking to be full by the end of the meal. Salmon Ahumado ($16): My favorite tapa of the meal. The amount of smoked salmon was generous with the perfect drizzle of honey and truffle. It was such a yummy combination. Asparagus ($17): The Romesco sauce definitely had a kick to it! This was good, but didn't feel super special and the sauce was hard to coat properly. Pulpo ala Parilla ($24): The octopus was grilled really well and had a really nice charred flavor, but it was seasoned to be on the saltier side for me. It also felt like it was a bit on the oilier side. Gambas Negras ($20): Yummy shrimps and the bread paired well. Churro Fantasia ($17): Chocolate raspberry is one of my favorite combinations and I loved how their was a raspberry powder to also dip the churros in. The churros were also really nicely fried Would definitely come back and I'd want to bring more people to try their paella! This place is definitely on the pricier side, but makes sense for the location on the water and ambiance.
Delicious delicious delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed each tapas, and I probably could've eaten five more deviled eggs by myself. Both the prawns and the fish was cooked perfectly tender. The service staff were kind and attentive. The restaurant was bustling on a Thursday, but the atmosphere was still great for our date night. Will definitely come back again!

Tucked away on Pier 5 along the Embarcadero, Coqueta San Francisco captures a distinct charm that flirts somewhere between a Barcelona tapas bar and a classic San Francisco waterfront warehouse. Coqueta's Gambas Negras is an absolute showstopper and a culinary masterpiece in how to elevate a Spanish classic. Instead of the standard sizzling garlic oil of traditional gambas al ajillo, Coqueta poaches head-on Gulf prawns in olive oil infused with a deeply savory, umami-rich black garlic and chili sauce. The prawns arrive incredibly soft, snappy, and dripping with flavor. The hidden magic, however, is the sauce left behind in the dish. It is dark, rich, complex, and slightly sweet from the fermented garlic. Make sure you ask for additional grilled country bread just to soak up every single drop of that oil, and last but not least the Pulpo à la Parrilla. The wood-grilled Mediterranean octopus is a flawless execution of texture and smoke. In my experience octopus is notoriously easy to overcook, but here it is charred to perfection on the outside with a light crust, while remaining beautifully tender and meltingly soft on the inside. It's served over a bed of freshly dug pimentón confit potatoes. The potatoes act like sponges, absorbing the rich, smoky pimentón (Spanish paprika) and olive oil. It's a rustic, deeply satisfying dish. The topping for this visit was the staff, Alan was very attentive and made choosing items off the menu easy with his recommendations. read more
I love their outdoor bar area, so I decided to stop in for some apps and a drink. I ordered the heirloom yellowtail crudo, and unfortunately, it wasn't the best. I had a hard time finishing it. There was a lot of sauce and a lot of different flavors going on. Yellowtail is already a very soft fish, and adding the tomatoes just didn't work for my palate. The overall flavor profile was just a little too much for me. I also tried the deviled eggs, which were decent. I'd definitely come back for drinks and to enjoy the outdoor bar, but I probably wouldn't order the food again. read more
We were here last night and the space was crowded with people. The waiter was very nice to us. He's very informative. Even though the space is full, it's not overly loud so you can still talk. Everything that we got was just perfect! I love the salmon and the paella was really good. They serve it really fast as well even though they said it might take up to 40 minutes. It's not overly salty. I also recommend the pink sangria. It's definitely strong, but it taste really good and sweet. I recommend this place but make sure to get a reservation! read more

We sat at the bar and it was fun! The bar is like a glass box with view of the Bay and the bridge. The guys at the bar were fun and entertaining. Negronis were delicious 20 dollars a pop. Octopus was perfectly cooked and had a great sauce. Bread pudding was also great. Fun, delicious time for a hundred buck (total bill with tip) I'd say not bad in SF. read more
Dined here for NYE and the ambiance was top notch, it definitely feels bougie... because it is! We had 8 PM reservations since we wanted to catch the fireworks by the bridge. We arrived a little early, but they were very accommodating, which we appreciated! I will say this isn't really a kid-friendly place. We had our nephews with us and they didn't have a high chair available. It's understandable given the vibe of the restaurant, and it wasn't a huge issue, but it would've been nice if there was an option. We ordered the seafood paella and the tomahawk. The seafood paella was GOOD 10/10 very flavorful and definitely a highlight. The tomahawk, though expensive, was a bit underwhelming... The reason for my 4 stars: the drinks were really good, and the staff truly elevated the experience especially the bartenders. They were super friendly and even let us stay at the bar while waiting for the fireworks, which made the night extra special. Overall, a great NYE spot with amazing vibes and service! read more
Lovely restaurant in the SF harbor. My colleagues and I stopped by for some pre-dinner drinks in their indoor glass covered bar area. I opted for the simple yet delish Work Vineyard Rose. It was delish as I already mentioned. Service was great. My coworker let me try her mocktail which isn't listed currently on their website but it was ahhmazing and refreshing. I would recommend that one but again it's not listed. read more

Delicious! Finally tried coqueta and wish I lived closer because I would probably come here all the time. Came for a friends birthday and we sat at the Kings Table. This is perfect for large parties because it's a set menu and you're in the middle of the restaurant. We got to try a lot of the menu but some of my favorites include: - smoked salmon bite (not sure what it's called but it was heavenly) - patatas bravas - vegetarian paella - churro Would come back if I'm in the area. Drinks are also good and there's a parking lot across the street! read more

We love this place. We have tried almost the entire menu and we have not been disappointed. Food is delicious. Last time I had the T-bone steak. Man honestly the best spot so far where I've had a T-bone! Drinks & Dessert were excellent! Service was very good. Even during dinner hour. Date of Visit: 11/28/2025 This is my second visit to Coqueta SF located at Pier 5. The restaurant located right next to the bay with nice view. It was opened back in 2013 with the lead of Michael Chiarello. Combining local California ingredient with Spanish tapas cooking. 2018 Cvne Tempranillo $18 Our friend got the tempranillo from Rioja region in Spain. Guava Mojito $17 Husband got the guava mojito made with minted charged white rum, lime, and minted cane sugar. Sweet and sour with thick guava foam on top. Paradise Gardens $17 I ordered the paradise gardens made with lemon and basil vodka, mango liquor, pomegranate, lemon, and dragon fruit air. The taste of pomegranate was very forward and very refreshing. 2023 Work Vineyard Rosé $18 This Rosé is from Napa Valley. Our friend ordered this to pair with tapas. Jamon Iberico de Bellota "5 Jotyas" $45 We got the nice jamon from Iberico. This jamon was just carved, on top decorated with pure bread and made with acorn-fed jamon iberico. Gambas Negras $27 Four pieces of gulf prawns was poached in olive oil and with black garlic chili sauce. Pulpo a la Parilla $23 I also ordered the Spanish octopus legs wood grilled with red sauce and Pimeton confit potatoes on the side. Setas al Ajillo $16 My favorite was the sauteed wild mushrooms basted with garlic chili oil and amontillado sherry orange dressing with garlic chips. Paella Mar y Montana $69 For the large portion paella, we got the one with head-on Gulf prawns, clams, mussels, chorizo, English peas, atop bomba rice cooked in fire roasted tomato sofrito and shellfish broth. Churros Fantasia $14 For dessert we got the churros with chocolate sauce and raspberry powder. read more
Solid spot along the waterfront! Wow all the dishes I found the paella, octopus and the churros to be standout! The paella was crispy and the rice was plump and full of flavor. The octopus was cooked to perfection, tender and not overly chewy. For dessert the churros were light crispy and not too heavy. The raspberry powder helped cut through some of the sweetness and oil. Nice vibes on a warm day... delicious non alcoholic sangria but not sure it's worth the price for an NA drink. We ordered the. Chefs meat and cheese, delivered to us without information on what was presented on the dish (type of cheese, type of meats). It was overall delicious the jamon itself was worth every penny. The deviled eggs were nice and the coquetta was very flavorful, creamy and crispy. The best dish is definitely the friend calamari. Lots of places cannot execute a clean oil taste like Coqueta did. Thoroughly enjoyed the light airy aspect of the calamari. Would recommend again but only 3 starts because service was below averaged even when they had ample staffing and this meal was $160+ so it was rather expensive for the quality and quantity of food. read more

Always a great time at Coqueta! They have a lot of options on the food menu and a great drink selection too. The Paella is always a great option. The pulpo and croquettes are great starters. They have their own spin on the construct of patatas bravas. The staff are very friendly and attentive as well. read more
Beautiful water views, mouthwatering tapas, and polite and welcoming service. I would highly recommend their sangrias and their take on patatas bravas. I honestly think all their flavors are spot, produce is fresh, on and you won't be disappointed on anything you order. read more

After visiting the exploratorium we were ready for lunch. Not too many places close to where we were except for Coqueta. We decided to try it.. food with a Spanish flare. Service was good, it was lunch time so it got pretty busy...server checked on us a few times from what observed they work as a team... manager brought our main entree.. read more

I was visiting San Francisco for the first time from out of town, and Coqueta was hands down one of the best dinners of the trip. The cocktails and wine set a perfect tone, and the arroz negro was the showstopper of the night. Jet black squid ink rice loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams, roasted red peppers, and peas served in a classic paella pan. It looks dramatic but trust me, it is NOT burnt. Rich, perfectly executed, and absolutely delicious. Dessert was equally impressive, a caramelized cheesecake with shaved coconut and edible flowers paired with strawberry sorbet and berry compote. Light, elegant, and the perfect finish. The waterfront setting at Pier 5 makes the whole experience even better. If you have not been, go. read more

One of our go-to spots when we visit SF and can't make up our mind on where to go last minute. It's right on the pier which makes it convenient. We've sat at the bar area each time which is a bit small, but it works. You get nice views of the bay and windows for people watching. The food is really good- we got the same thing we got months ago and noticed some serving differences in size and taste- good but could be better. We've gotten multiple drinks; there were some inconsistencies but they were tasty. They're always busy, but staff and service are wonderful when they are available. We will for sure be back again! read more
I was looking for an Octopus dish and this showed up. I compared with a few other places but this looked the best. It lived up to expectations. The smoked salmon was also delicious. It had fresh cheese and a honey drizzle. The mushrooms were good as well but not the favorite. The drinks were amazing and strong. Service was prompt. The location is beautiful, right by the water. We live in Rocklin but Coqueta is worth a drive going to San Francisco. Every year we celebrate my birthday here. The food is really good, great ambiance because of the cozy setting and of course great staffs. Salmon Ahumado is my favorite appetizer it is really good, it has cream cheese, truffle oil and salmon, we also love their Gambas really good and really fresh tasting, Their tomahawk steak is also bomb and so flavorful. Their dessert is good to but since it's my birthday when we went there its complimentary. I really love this place that's why we keep coming back every year. Went to Coqueta for a bit of pregaming with small bites and drinks before a birthday party. I've been on a mission to find delicious grilled octopus and Coqueta almost delivered. The octopus itself was prepared very well. The texture was not chewy and the meat was soft, but the taste was a bit too salty for me. We also tried their chicken croquette. The croquettes were delicioso! It felt like you biting into a fish croquette, but it was chicken. Their drinks were also on point. Goodbye to our old friend Coqueta Although SF has many very nice restaurants, we've kept touristy Coqueta in our regular rotation while visiting from Paris and NYC for many years, primarily due to an incredibly welcoming staff. Due to a physical challenge, I am accompanied by a trained service canine. During an empty Thursday evening at Coqueta, general manager Harry Tanielian approached my service canine, distracted her, and proceeded to lecture me, due to the fact that she had simply gotten up to stretch as we were preparing to leave past closing time. He took great issue with the fact that she had stood up. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, a legitimate service dog can only be denied if the animal is out of control, not housebroken, or poses a direct threat to health and safety, none of which apply to my specially trained canine. Mr. Tanielian's actions were especially concerning, given that the restaurant was empty and no concerns were raised by the few patrons or friendly staff, yet he went out of his way to eviscerate me. No complaint has ever been lodged during my 20+ years of global travel with a service canine. In fact, I am accustomed to compliments related to my service canine, and even received a nice thank-you letter from the flight attendants on our recent transcontinental flight to SF. Not only is discrimination unacceptable and ugly, it is illegal. I assume Michael C. would have been disappointed by Harry Tanielian's actions. I plan to submit an ADA complaint with the U.S. Justice Department, elaborating my experience with Mr. Tanielian. read more
Had a get-together with cousins who were coming from different parts of the Bay Area so we converged here. It's been about 10 years since I last dined here for dinner with the family. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with a slight chilly breeze but being seated inside it was nice and warm. We sat near the kitchen but by the West side wall which was nice and sunny. Our server was Alan and we had a table of 4. We decided to order a "Porron" of Red Sangria which was quite pricey at $49. It's a traditional glass wine pitcher that has a spout used for communal wine drinking. IMO it seemed smaller than a traditional Sangria Ceramic Pitcher which usually holds more volume. The Sangria had a tang and the Ginger was pronounced. I don't think the Ginger added anything and I couldn't taste the berries nor apples? My cousin thought it needed some fizz so she asked Alan to bring some Sparkling Wine which was a glass of Brut Roederer($14). I thought it needed some sweetness as it didn't seem like the fruit was well-incorporated and soaked in so I asked for some Classic Syrup to sweeten it up. Alan brought a small glass of syrup and it tasted much better with the Sparkling Wine and just had a pizzazz to it. We ordered Patatas Bravas($14), Pulpo a la Parilla($23), Gambas Negras($20) where the waiter added another piece of shrimp(Gamba +$7) since one order only had 3 pieces. We ordered the Paella Tinta($72) and for dessert my cousin ordered Churros Fantasia($14) and an Americano($5). I really enjoyed the Patatas Bravas, Pulpo and the Paella was fine with perfectly cooked seafood. We just wished it had a crispy crust on the bottom. It came with a grilled lemon half, lemon aioli and pickled green peppers as condiments. I wish we had a carafe of water because it seemed like we had to ask a few times for refills. Just know you're in the Bay Area and Wharf area if you have sticker shock with some of the prices like the Paella and Sangria Porron. Plus, there's a 5% Service Charge for SF Mandates tacked onto your bill when dining in San Francisco. We parked across the street using the pre-paid parking lot we paid online which was cheaper than paying on the spot or at other lots. It got full by the time we got back to our car. We had fun catching up so you can't put a price on that and YOLO so you have to splurge sometimes. read more
Another delicious meal. We ordered 1) Pan con Tomate 2) Jamon 3) Chicken Croqueta 4) Calamari 5) Octopus 6) Huevos Rotos My favorite were still the Croqueta. The place is a lovely, lovely restaurant on the waterfront with stunning views and indoor and outdoor covered patio space for plenty of seating. Inside, it feels like a rustic restaurant in the middle of Spain. The tapas are delicious from the fresh salads to the croquettes to the paella. Everything made our mouths water and were instantly devoured. We even had a delicious dessert to end the meal for my friend's birthday. The vibe is definitely unique and one to check out if you're celebrating a special occasion. read more

How is parking at this restaurant?
There is a lot across the way, or you can try to find street parking which isn't the easiest. I'd recommend taking public transportation or Uber over driving and parking.
How many people does a paella feed?
The paella is fairly large! I went with a party of 4 (myself included) and there were still leftovers.
Can we dress in jeans (nice ones)? Dressy shoes, shirts, jackets as go with.
Yes, I was there a couple weeks ago for dinner and wore jeans, nice shoes and a nice sweater and was fine. I would say this place is definitely nice casual.
Do you need a Covid vaccination to eat outdoors?
No, they do not require it for dining outside, only for indoors.
Is the patio/outdoor seating going to open soon?
Outdoor dining is now open and reservations can be made on opentable!
What were the vegan dishes that people have ordered?
We sat at the bar and the restaurant manager marked up half the menu via different variations of the dishes in order to accommodate my vegetarian dietary restrictions. I'm sure they can do the same for vegan.
Are there good vegan options?
I doubt it. it seems most dishes have either meat, fish, shellfish, egg, or cheese in them. Sorry!
Is there parking nearby?
Yes , paid parking right on the corner of Broadway and Embarcadero or you also can find street parking.
