This is a beautifully decorated restaurant with a floral wall surrounding the restaurant with beautiful lights and decorations what's the time which makes this place a great date night or casual hang out the waiter was good at welcoming us and having our food served to us. Let me start with the best, the empanadas!!! 5/5 Wow, these were fantastic. great flavor, great presentation, these were definitely the highlight of the meal!! Lomo saltado: 3/5 honestly, I was kinda expecting a little bit more. The steak was a little bit more tough than I would've liked, the guy said that it was tender however, I would kind of agree, but I think that it was a little bit short of tender. I would say it was soft enough, but I had to chew and work for it more than I would've liked. The flavor was a tad salty, but overall it was good balance with the rice and the fries. Overall, it was a bit more expensive than I would've wanted but willing to come back for those empanadas!
Came here on a Wednesday afternoon. Really enjoyed my pisco sour, and vegetarian dishes. The tropical salad was so delicious and refreshing!! And the service was great and fast! I will definitely be back!
My partner and I came for dinner on a Saturday. It was just starting to fill up. The restaurant is very ornate and cool vibes, with upbeat music. Staff are very attentive and friendly. We ordered three dishes to share and all were delicious. The ceviche was perfectly citrusy with warm chips on the side for dipping. We also had the empanada sampler that includes beef, chicken and veggie. The chicken was my favorite for the delicious spices, but all were crispy and flavorful. As our main we had half a chicken with a side of salad and sweet potatoes. I was incredibly full after everything and we really enjoyed our experience.
Great food, excellent environment, friendly and accommodating staff! The shrimp pasta was delicious with a great peppery taste, and the empanada sampler was tasty, made with flour for a perfectly crunchy and flaky experience. It was my first time ever having beef heart on a skewer; I'd rate it as okay, keeping in mind I don't have another reference point, but it was a bit tough in my opinion. There was a bit of a lull between our drinks and actually ordering, which stalled the momentum, but it did remind me of the importance of being in the moment and not feeling hurried to dine and leave. Overall, it actually made for a good experience. The drinks were great, there was excellent latin music selection and the floor to ceiling windows make for great people-watching!

We were seated right away and got our orders in quickly. I think we were in and out in about 45 minutes which was great for us because we had a show to attend. The food: Fried rice: It was my first time having fried rice from a Peruvian place. I didn't find it spectacular but there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with it. It just wasn't a flavor profile to remember. Empanada sampler: great portions. Good flavor. Would order again. Drinks were delicious and staff was excellent.
Food is good, really good. The restaurant itself and the ambience are nice. Waiter was very attentive and explained the menu properly and patiently. In fact, I was about to order two dishes that were very similar to each other and he corrected my decision by walking me through it. I really appreciated that. The passion fruit cocktail we got was incredible. Perfection. Overall, very happy.
Fantastic! Staying at the Marriott Marquis so this was about 2 blocks away! Super convenient. I went with the shrimp pasta and it was VERY good. Large, meaty shrimp, good portion of noodles and vegetables, and creamy pasta sauce. I also got the chips, guac, and salsa. Honestly didn't care for the guac too much - was kind of flavorless. But it was some of the best salsa I've ever had. If I was far away I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come back here. Mostly because there's so many other great options in the bay area. But if I was reasonably close then I would certainly swing by again!

I wouldn't recommend this to be here after dinner coffee place but if you just need a simple pick you up it's perfect. The restaurant was so cutely decorated and we definitely wanted to come back and take photos. Unfortunately we ran out of time but will definitely come back to take photos again.
I came here without a reservation with a friend on a Monday night. We were able to get seated immediately in a corner, next to a bright butterfly and naturey display. We decided to share their Arroz Chaufa and Anticuchos de Corazon. Our order came out within 15 minutes. Arroz Chaufa: This was flavorful and well-balanced. The portion size was a bit smaller than expected, but we both appreciated the texture of the rice and didn't feel it being too greasy or heavy. Anticuchos de Corazon: The meat was tender and well-cooked. Again, the portion size was on the smaller side, but the meat went well with the side vegetables and was not too chewy. It was definitely more on the expensive side for its portion size, but the quality of the food is good.
Came twice while in SF got conference. Once for dinner once for lunch. Service great both times. The fried chicken appetizer was delicious not chewy. Dinner: The rice that comes with the pollo à la brasa was quite flavorful. I preferred it to the cilantro rice from the arroz con pollo. I loved the chicken from both chicken dishes (we shared meals). Friend said steak was delicious. She shared with her son. Lunch : I got the veggie skewer and it was so delicious. The bed of saureex potatoes was perfect. Only complaint was that there wasn't enough of them. :). My boss got a chicken pasta dish - cant remember name. She enjoyed. Nice searing and beautiful butterflies all over. We loved the angel wings and halo, too. If you are staying near Moscone center don't miss out.

Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. The basics like ceviche and empanadas were delicious. But items like the quinoa chicken dish blew us away. And you must order the plantains for dessert. Love the island vibe and the "grass" floor. Really prompt service. Great choice before a movie with friends because of the turnaround on entrees.
Was happy to get a table without a reservation as the place was packed to the brim with larger parties during a busy weekday lunch. Despite the challenges of serving a packed restaurant with limited staff, they took our order and brought out everything fairly quickly and correctly! Would definitely recommend if you want some pretty good tasting well price Peruvian cuisine!

So happy I found Mariposas. I've always like Peruvian cuisine and it is great that it's close to my work. Tonight I had the Chicha Morada purple corn drink, Mariposas Pasta - linguine with shrimp in the extra creamy aji amarillo sauce. For dessert the Lucuma fruit ice cream that tastes like caramel! Everything was delicious. I had friendly service, more than one person served me but my interaction with Ivan at the end was especially nice. Mariposas means butterflies and the decor is whimsical with lots of butterflies around for photo ops. read more

So this past weekend we got the chance to grab a quick bite for brunch. We were staying close at Hotel Zelos, this was literally 5 minutes walking. The place is small, but so decorative, from the floors to the walls, the entire place is nice. We tired the empanada trio, which was one beef, one chicken and one veggie. All were GREAT!!! The meat was seasoned and juicy, we loved it, the sauce on top was great too. Along with that we tried some plantains, tasted great, perfectly cooked. For drinks I just had a coke, but my wife had the cucumber water and I even loved it...so refreshing. If you come to SF, this is a definite go to!!!! read more

Insanely delicious chicken. I went for dinner and was so pleasantly surprised by the fun decor, light up butterflies, and faux grass flooring. The food did not disappoint in fact it WOWed. I got the half chicken with fries and a salad and that was some of the best roasted chicken I've had in forever. My friend got the arroz con pollo and loved it too. Service was SO fast and easy. Food was pretty decent. We ordered the Ceviche caritierillo, lomo saltado, half chicken sub for fried rice and arroz con pollo. There was a lot more rice than chicken than I expected but the rice was a little more wet than I had anticipated. The flavors were overall good, my chicken was pretty juicy. The half chicken was also pretty good with the sauces it came with, although the fried rice was great. I would definitely go again for that. The fries were good but once they were chewy. The ceviche had a nice acidity to it but it was less saucy than anticipated. The seafood in the ceviche though was a nice combination with the corn and nuts. read more

Went here for lunch on MLK day before catching a movie at the nearby Metreon. Really like the interior of the place, great wall deco and cozy vibes. The place was not super busy, but I think they were a bit understaffed. Took a while to get us seated and I noticed a few tables that weren't cleaned yet. We ordered a mango and passion fruit lemonade, a ceviche and the lomo saltado. They also wanted to get us some water, but it never arrived. The lemonades were good, just a bit too sweet for my taste. The lomo saltado was great, really nice flavors, well seasoned and the meat was really tender. Together with the fries made for some great bites. The ceviche was also good, nice mixture of seafood and a nice light dish. The servers were friendly, but I think they were stretched thin and things were a bit slow overall. Would definitely give this place another try. read more

Delicious everything. Very cute , Instagrammable decor. My favorite was the pollipapa , which is fries topped with roasted chicken. Mmm I will have to get the pollo a la brasa next time. The chicken is sooo good! Chicharrones de pollo was also good. Classic ceviche yum. And the pisco sours were delicious. There was a passionfruit mojito that was also yummy. Service was very good. We went for lunch on a Sunday and were seated right away. It's good location close to Metreon. We'll be back! read more

We came to Mariposas because it was closed to our hotel and it was labeled "Peruvian". The place is nicely decorated and fun. Service was pretty quick, friendly and quick. We ordered "arroz chaufa" and "arroz con mariscos". Both were good, and beautifully plated, but nowhere near the real Peruvian traditional flavors. To be fair, my husband made a change to his chaufa (originally made with chicken in this restaurant) and requested beef instead. The meat was delicious! Juicy, and perfectly cooked. But again, it didn't really taste Peruvian. He was somewhat disappointed, since he is from Peru. Nice meal, but it didn't blow our minds. read more

Food is amazing. Food feels real and fresh, not processed or oily. Presentation was also beautiful. Such a comforting and flavorful meal. Had the arroz con pollo, the chicken was super soft and the rice was bursting with flavor. Absolutely loved the mixture of flavors. Tres leches was super moist and yummy. The staff and owner are extremely kind and friendly, and this place feels very comforting and inviting. The atmosphere is very lively, a fun place to sit and enjoy on a night out on the town. The restaurant itself is very cool looking, super vibrant and pretty. Had such a pleasant experience, will be coming back!! read more
Found myself in SOMA one night, determined to have Lomo Saltado. Yelp pointed me to Mariposas. I wasn't expecting much, Mission Street after all, but wow, whimsical space. Music! Butterflies! Neon! Very welcoming place. So of course i ordered the Lomo, seriously the best of Peruvian restaurants IMO. Tender strips of steak, just the right amount of onions & tomato, not too heavy-handed with the balsamic, not too salty with the soy sauce. And there's plenty of sauce. I usually don't order delivery since all those convenient Grub Hubs, etc charge the restaurant 25%. My excuse several times has been i'm tired, I don't feel well, it's rush hour, blah blah, guess that ship has sailed. I'm now ordering delivery. My only complaint with the meal is the small amount of rice. The Lomo Saltado is large enough for two, the rice barely one serving. Anyway, Mariposas is definitely destination-worthy. The vibes inside were great! The decor was so fun and my friend and I sat in the cage type chairs close to the window (prime people watching)! The service was great as well, super attentive and helped answer some of our questions. The food was okay, I personally didn't like the lomo saltado because the fries were more soaked than usual. The chicarron de pollo was delicious but was just chicken and a dip, no additional items were included with this so it felt like an appetizer. read more

We came here for our pre-New Years dinner with our friends. This restaurant looks small from the outside but has more seating in the back for bigger groups. It has such cute decor and the staff are very friendly and accommodating by describing the different foods. Here is what we had: Chicken and beef empanadas: Nice crispy shell, packed with meat... definitely one of the best empanadas I have had in awhile Ensalada mixta: regular salad but delicious. They have salad dressing to go with it, but I loved it just with the lime and olive oil. Refreshing! Chicharron de pollo: like chicken nuggets but on another level. Paired with lime squeezed on top and their special dipping sauce, totally a pleaser for both young and old Half chicken: I believe they are known for their roasted chicken...I have to say it tastes like the ones they make in the Philippines. Nice and juicy with flavor throughout Lomo Saltado: Wok-fried succulent strips of beef, sautéed with vibrant vegetables and zesty spices, over french fries. Served with jasmine rice - this was good, the meat was nice and tender. Although the sauce was a little overwhelming for me, if paired with rice it is perfect. Platano Frito: plantain bananas that adds a nice touch in between all the different foods we tried Arroz con leche: the best Peruvian dessert I have tried. They told us it is a homemade recipe. This has a unique taste that brings back memories of my own Philippine dessert called suman. Definitely worth having at the end of your meal. Overall I will definitely go back and suggest you try it out if you are in the area. read more

What drew us to this place, were the birdcage chairs, I want one of those in my work office! And then we looked further in to see these large topiary green walls with largely lit butterflies. We did a quick check online for food/drink pictures and saw some drinks with butterflies in them and we were sold. When we got there on a weekday, there was a lath party of 14, a few other couple and us, not too crazy busy. We quickly got our drink orders taken in addition to our food orders. The ceviche came out first, fresh, lemony, zesty. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the chips were nice and crunchy. The drinks came and then our main courses shortly after. The rice in the Arroz Con Pollo was flavorful but not too overpowering, and the chicken seasoned well. As for the Lomo Saltado, the meat was IT! Seasoned well, meat was nice and soft, though I didn't quite care for the fries that were served with it, as they were mushy and soft in texture. I'm used to a more firm fry, and grabbed some of my colleagues' rice to eat with this particular dish. My colleague ordered another drink in the middle of our entrees, but didn't quite receive that, until we mentioned something to the server. So then, the server came to give us that drink plus another one, to try out. But, by then we were quite stuffed. Overall, the service was alright, had it been a little tighter, would've given this a 5-star, but it may have been that they were a little short-handed with the large party taking up majority of the restaurant's attention that evening. read more
Burger was surprisingly good! Stopped her for a casual weekday lunch and overall was impressed by the place. Interior decorations are a bit intense, but the place hits home on the food and service. Mariposas burger was pretty solid, and I really enjoyed the egg on top. Fried plantains had a nice crisp to it as well. Two other people got Lomo Saltado which is one of their popular items. Staff was pretty friendly and prices are reasonable. Wait was pretty reasonable for lunch. Surprisingly the place only had 2-3 other tables at 12:30 -- not sure if thats par for the area, or if the diner next door pulls in all the local business. read more
