Hands down best view of the bay here

5 stars: Most amazing view of SF and bar service from Mike- he came over and offered many drinks to our surprise it was the most hospitality and fun restaurant we have been to. It was so fun and welcoming we definitely will be back for more food and drinks when in town!! Thanks Mike and wonderful waiters

    Nachos and Birria Tacos

For the place and view it's at the good spot, but if that's the reason for the prices of each food item idk if it's worth it. If you are craving Mexican food I think it's a decent spot, but definitely there are better places for food in general. The view is nice inside and service was friendly. Food came out a bit slow and had to wave down waiters for salsas and water refill which is only a small issue. Price is a little more expensive than other mexican places with similar items. Off to the food review!!! 3.9/5 - Nachos - Overall a great nachos, the guac tasted fresh, the pickled onions and salsa added really help add the necessary acidity needed. Chips remain crunchy for a bit but eat it fast as it gets soggy with all the toppings on top of it. A great mixture of flavors and textures if you put it all on one chip and eat it in one bite. Wished there are more chips and toppings seem more than the chips itself. 3/5 - Birria Tacos Plate - Birria and the soup it came with felt luke warm. Quite disappointing and the flavor of it was only okay. Not a huge fan of the refried beans as well, but the mexican rice was quite good. With the main star and one side dish of the plate disappointing not sure if its worth the price compared to the nachos

    Burrito - No Protein

We were in the area and decided to stop here for lunch. The hubby got a Chicken burrito and I got a No Protein burrito. The menu price showed $20 for his and $18 for mine. We also split a non-alcoholic beer $7 (I've never had a non-alcoholic beer and we were both curious.) So $66 later, ugh. $4 for guacamole, 5% small business fee and of course tip and tax. Ouch. The food tasted OK, not bad, but also nothing memorable. The size of our burritos were also OK, a little smaller than a super burrito in a regular Mexican restaurant. My biggest disappointment was that there were no chips and salsa before the meal. What Mexican restaurant doesn't service chips and salsa before a meal? Anyway I do have to say that where this place shined, was our server Karla. She was amazing! If it weren't for her I'd probably only rate this place a two star. She was definitely an above average server!!

On our first night, we decided to stop by here for mexican food. The waitress was not friendly at first, but later she seemed to open up when she found out I was also a hello kitty fan. This restaurant offers beautiful views of the beach and alcatraz island; you can definitely enjoy your dinner here during a nice sunset. They also have outdoor seating. Located in the ghirardelli square, you can't miss it. FYI it is on the pricey side too. I fell in love with the cantaloupe margarita 5/5! a refreshing and delicious marg on the rocks always hits! I highly suggest this flavor. It tasted so refreshing that I ordered a second one after. Now for the food, I ordered the birria tacos which came with a side of consome (broth) beand and rice. The birria tacos were on the crunchy side and very filling with lots of cheese. The broth was on the salty side so I didn't dip my birria tacos on it. The beans and rice were decently good as well. I'd rate this plate a 3.5/5 Overall, a great experience since it offered spectaluar views of the bay/beach and alcatraz island.

4.5 Stars Enjoy Mexican and margaritas in Ghieadelli square with the best views of the bay you can get. Yes, it is on the pricey end but you are paying for the views. Margs are in the $14-16 range and are great. The salsa is chunky and amazing, the chips and thick and crunchy ($7.50 for chips & salsa). We got the carne asada plate ($32) - it came with chimichurri, rice & beans, a generous portion of guacamole, and blue corn tortillas. The steak was perfectly cooked, the guacamole was chunky and fresh, and the tortillas were warm and soft. I loved chimichurri and the salsas they served with it as well. The staff are warm and cheery - they helped us chase a bee from our outdoor table for about 8 minutes, lol!

Was here for a company party during Halloween celebration and the restaurant really came out with their best theme displays. From fun and fitting decorations to a wall for memorial of love ones. This place oozes personality, culture and tenderness. The food were excellent. It was a buffet style in the back where you can make your own taco or burrito bowl. The drinks were strong and delicious. Staff are so fun and help throughout the night. The view is amazing during sunset. A clear view of the water with the park and beach outside. Recommend visitors and tourist to stop by when they are by Ghirardelli Sq.

We were in town for Fleet Week and decided to give Barrio a try since it overlooks Aquatic Park and we'd be able to watch the air show during lunch. I imagine this little spot would be Packed if the Blue Angels were flying but sadly ... they and all other military aircraft were grounded this year. Because of this, the entire City was much less active than any year prior. But the advantage was being able to get into places like this without a reservation!! Barrio has a great outdoor patio however it was closed for a private party so we opted to sit inside. Our table was right I front of the huge floor to ceiling that overlooked Aquatic Park so we weren't complaining. When we arrived, the hostess let us know there would be a 90 minute maximum and a $25 per person minimum. Wasn't shocking since it's literally ocean side in SF but still a little high for lunch. Little did I know, we'd meet that minimum just on the pitcher of margaritas!! Ouch! Service was absolutely wonderful and the view was unbelievable. Here's what we ordered: BARRIO TRINITY: guac & salsa were tasty but the queso was pretty bland although very smooth and creamy. FREE DIPPY SAUCES: if you know me, you know I like to get ALL the dippy sauces. My fav though was the habanero. Super spicy but really tasty. PITCHER OF PINEAPPLE MARGS: as good as these were, they were definitely not $75 good for a picture that was 80% ice. BIRRIA TACOS: two of us got these and they were delicious! I would order these again for sure. All lunch entrées come with beans and rice, which both were pretty bland so the sauces drizzled on top helped. SHRIMP TACOS: I really enjoyed these in the pickled onions and mango slaw or excellent. Again, the rice and beans were lackluster. You really can't beat the View in the service. The margaritas were tasty but a little too expensive in my opinion. If the pictures were just the margarita and the ice was just in the glasses, I might be able to swallow the $75 charge. I also didn't love the fact that there was a lot of flies on the window near our table, but an extra star for our waiter who brought out a shot of tequila to celebrate my birthday. Cheers!

The food here was great! We got a seat by the window and the view of the bay is beautiful. They have outdoor seating as well with great views. I will come back here next time I go to the square! The service was ok, they did not come around to our table often and did not refill the water cups or provide ice in the water.

Great service, food was perfect and delicious, will definitely have to come again anytime around San Francisco.

Taco - Chicken Tinga, Punch Drunk Love Cocktail
    Debbie N.

Amazing view. Great service. Cocktail is really good without the strong alcohol taste. Taco have freshly made tortilla. Chicken is soft and flavorful. They have just some salsa to so with it and they are all amazing. My favorite is the red sauces that is similar to the one in the chicken tinga. The spicy one is amazing also with a hint of tamarin.

A good place to enjoy good Mexican food and beer plus a vista of the bay and Alcatraz! Good staff, fast service, and a relaxing environment! What more can you ask! This was not a planned stop for us but definitely a place to come back to!

Celebrating Father's Day at Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco's Fishermans Wharf district was a delicious gift. We played a very competitive round at "Subpar" miniature golf and worked up an appetite on a quite June 15, 2025 evening. My son and I walked around the square before discovering Barrio. Located in Ghirardelli Square overlooking the San Francisco Bay, we arrived during a spectacular sunset. We were graciously welcomed by the host and seated promptly. The resturants was full and the service staff were busy engaged with juggling multiple tables. It took a bit of time before Karla R. graciously asked if "we have been helped?" We shared we hadn't been helped yet and she quickly orchestrated getting our place settings and water service promptly. I was with my youngest son and I informed him we had been in the facility previously when the was a young child and the space was were a former "Lori's Diner" had occupied. The new resturant the "Barrio" opened in 2021. Our waitress Karla R. took our appetitizers and entrée orders. I selected the shrimp tacos and my son ordered the chicken tinga. In addition he added a basket of warm tortilla chips and freshly made guacamole which included large avocado chunks, purple onions and familiar Yucatan seasonings. My son's roommate is Mexican and felt compelled ordering the corn dish Esquite and proceeded to tell me how there were few good Mexican restaurants in Honolulu where he lives. We ordered the Hibiscus Lemonade and Pineapple Frescas respectively. They were both delicious and very refreshing! Our appetitizers arrived very quietly which pleasantly surprised my son given our initial wait time. Our Barrio entrées arrived to us warmly by Karla R. and we were thrilled to see the chef's culinary creations. They were beautiful and IMHO "out preformed" their menu written descriptions. Fresh. Colorful. Creative. Appealing. I was extremely pleasantly surprised! Wow! My son had said he wasn't feeling too hungry as we reviewed the menu, however he devoured his chicken tacos in warp speed! As you can see from my pictures the Barrio's sets the stage of an extraordinary environment for a beautiful sunset overlooking The Bay. What an amazing way to conclude a wonderful Father's Day. Thanks to Karla R. for your kindness, professionalism, smile and service promptness. Bravo! We will be back with my wife and son the next time he has the need for high level Mexican, Peruvian cusine, spectacular views and exquisite service. Gracious

i was in the area and needed a quick bite so i decided to stop by barrio to check it out. it felt disrespectful getting a burrito knowing mission burritos are so good... but i had to do what i had to do in a desperate time. it was fine but just tasted a bit homemade in my opinion. prices are high for what it is. the place seems family run so i'm glad i got to support a small business. interior has a nice vibe! i probably wouldn't go back but i'm glad i tried.

Skip this tourist trap. Overpriced and meh tasteless bland food.

The bartender then told her to "get the f*ck out of my face" and instructed staff not to let her or us in, even though my friend hadn't done anything wrong. It was so confusing and extremely inappropriate. The behavior was unnecessarily hostile and disrespectful. This bar does not treat its customers with basic courtesy, and that bartender showed zero professionalism or customer service skills.

It was founded by Anton "Tony" Nikitovich and quickly became a gathering place for the neighborhood's Italian and Croatian communities, where people came to swap stories, argue politics, and enjoy a stiff drink after a long day. And honestly, that tradition carried on well into the years when many of us became regulars. I hadn't been back for a few years until recently, when I decided to stop in again. The bar wasn't overly busy, but a handful of neighborhood folks were sitting at the counter, trading stories over their drinks. It felt instantly familiar. Not much has changed since the early 2000s when I used to come here regularly, and that's exactly what makes Tony Nik's special. Step inside, and it still feels like a mid-century film set: tufted leather seating, a long wooden bar that's seen nearly a century of San Francisco history, and that iconic neon sign glowing outside. While much of the city has reinvented itself again and again, Tony Nik's somehow held onto its soul. It's a grown-up bar without being stuffy, no loud club music, no trendy gimmicks, just well-made cocktails, a classic jukebox, and an atmosphere that feels earned rather than manufactured. The bar stayed in the Nikitovich family for decades, and the current owners were wise enough to preserve both the name and the vintage character Tony originally created. It's one of those rare places that reminds you what North Beach used to be, and, thankfully, still is.
