Mission style burrito with meatless chorizo

We stopped by here before going to Cobb's comedy club. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean and has a cool vibe. We ordered the chips, salsa and guacamole to start. The chips were delicious, and the guacamole was also incredible. I ordered the mission style burrito with meatless chorizo. It was a good size, but lacked flavor. I give it 4 starts though because they offer vegan meats which is so great for vegetarians. If they amp up their favors I would come back.

Totally empty on a rainy Sunday, we arrive at North Beach Cantina for brunch. First off, their chips and salsa made everyone happy- best chips ever! We ordered bacon, carnitas tacos and I had a very tasty Huevos Rancheros - a little salty but full of flavor! With it, I also had a mimosa. Nice lively vibe here, which I'm sure gets packed in the evenings. Service was professional and quick.

If you're looking for some food in North Beach that isn't Italian, this spot is great! I always get a chicken burrito from here and it never disappoints. They have outdoor and indoor seating so you can take your pick! The prices are also reasonable. Would definitely recommend!

Order at the bar for both food and drinks, grab a seat, and they bring your food. Parking garage is about a couple blocks away but mostly street parking which was difficult to find. The chips, salsa and guacamole and queso was a great start to our meal. I got the fish tacos which were fantastic. Crispy not soggy at all but only corn tortillas my preference is always flour but it is wasn't an option. Tacos were a good size and were filling. Good all around meal.

We visited North Beach Cantina (1548 Stockton St, San Francisco) for the first time on a warm, sunny afternoon, and it turned out to be exactly the kind of casual, satisfying meal we'd been hoping for. We snagged a table in their parklet, which felt charming, great for people-watching, catching sunshine, and soaking up that lively North Beach energy. We kicked things off with chips and guacamole. The guac was fresh and nicely seasoned, and the chips crisped to perfection. The salsa that came with them stole some serious spotlight: tangy, a little spicy, and very addictive. I regret not finding out its name, but it's definitely one of those things I'll be coming back for. The horchata was a nice counterpoint, creamy with just the right amount of cinnamon, clean on the palate, refreshing amidst all the savory. For mains, we shared the California Burrito and their Street-Style Tacos. The burrito was all you'd want when you're craving comfort: generous portion, good carne asada, crispy fries inside, Pico de Gallo, and sour cream, hearty and hitting all the right notes. The tacos, though, those were the highlight. Three of them, each with tender, well-marinated meat, topped simply with onion, cilantro, and lime. The simplicity let the quality of the ingredients shine, no distractions, just good flavor. I picked up on some things that I think people will appreciate: the service was warm and not rushed, which made it easy to settle in; décor is polished but relaxed (wood tones, clean lines, some fun murals), so the place feels welcoming whether you're there with friends or solo; and the menu has a nice variety--so even if you don't want a big burrito, there are lighter options. Also, pricing seems reasonable for what you get, especially given the location. A bit of background: North Beach Cantina opened in 2022, taking over the former Tacolicious space. The team behind it includes folks with restaurant experience around the Bay Area (Underdogs Too, Underdogs Tres, etc.). Overall, North Beach Cantina is casual and unpretentious, yet it shows genuine care in the food and atmosphere. We left satisfied and full, and I'm already thinking about what I'll try next time. This spot is worth visiting if you're in the area and craving good Mexican food in a relaxed setting.

This restaurant has the best salad in all of San Francisco in my opinion. My partner and I order it a couple of times a month! The Southwest salad with chicken. It's a great spot on Taco Tuesday and they have a fantastic happy hour featuring $7 margaritas. In this economy? Sign me up! Their restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating in a covered little cute parklet. I can't say enough good things about North Beach Cantina!

Highly recommend the brunch and taco tuesdays! Taco Tuesday's is a a great deal! The happy hour prices can't be beat! If you're going to brunch, the dulce de leche is decadent. My husband has more of a sweet tooth and constantly craves this dish, and I love it despite being more into savory tastes. For my order, I'm a big fan of tator tots so I go with the breakfast tacos with a massive side of tots. For lunch and dinner fare - The beef flautas are delicious and come with a side salad. I'm a fan of getting the burrito bowls when it's not taco Tuesday.

    Chips & Salsa

It's my first time coming here and never really think to look for Mexican food in North Beach area. I looked at the menu beforehand and I initially was going to get the breakfast burrito. I last min changed my mind because I saw someone else's pic of the mission style burrito with carne asada. It looked delish! I wish I had gone with my gut and stuck with the bfast burrito. Chips and salsa - The chips and salsa were actually pretty good! I'm picky with chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants and this reminds me of our favorite ones out in Sonoma. Tater Tots: co worker ordered this to share with the group. Pretty good, BUT why were they not hot? Seems like they weren't made fresh and were probably sitting there for awhile. At least refry it quickly and then serve? Mission Style Burrito: I got it with no sour cream. Let me tell you, this burrito was dry. There was supposed to be guacamole in it. Could be at the bottom? I wouldn't know cause I cut off a small portion and I'm glad I did. Pico de gallo was minimal. Also, the big kicker....the menu says it comes with flour tortilla. It was not flour! It was wheat and I HATE wheat tortilla and wheat bread. So I know how it tastes like. This made the burrito even more unenjoyable. If you look at the pics for the breakfast burrito, that is flour. This, is wheat. Why use wheat if I didn't ask for it? Or at least give me the option to choose? I wish I got the fish tacos like my other co worker instead. Those looked promising. At least I got full eating the chips and some of the tots. My review is mostly for the burrito. The gentleman that took our order at the bar was super nice and helpful.

After a late night, I arrived at our office to see North Beach Cantina was catering our breakfast, I might as well have seen angels trumpeting as I entered, when the smells and the sights hit me, I immediately knew I was going to feel 10x better after I ate. I grabbed a hearty steak burrito and extra meat to get some protein #gains It was absolutely heaven sent. The chips, the salsa, it was everything I needed to revive me from my brain fog. Throughout the day I snuck to the breakroom to snack on more chips. Everything was 5/5 for us! Thank you NBC for bringing in the secret ingredient to a great work day.

    Ice coffee with horchata
    Sydney J.

I saw North Beach Cantina's stall at the North Beach Coffee & Pastry Festival so I decided to try their iced coffee with horchata. I thought it was okay, the coffee was fairly bitter and acidic so it is strong. I would say it was better toward the end since that was when I could finally taste the horchata more, though.

    Top Shelf Margarita 5/5 amazing

When you walk in to this cantina which feels super so cal, you are greeted by the friendly bartender where you also place your order. After your order is placed you take a number and sit down. Your drinks and food are delivered. I will tell you this place was fantastic. The service and food quality was on point. Amazing Carne Asada, Chicken, and Carnitas. Crazy that it is in the middle of Little Italy next to Tony's Pizza. Who would have thought some of the best Mexican food in SF would be here. I highly recommend for great drinks and food especially if you are short on time .

    Street Style Tacos

Food was great! I appreciate that you are able to choose different meats for the set of 3 tacos. I recommend the carne asada - meat was tender and nicely seasoned. The cronut churros were delicious - crispy and fluffy, pairs well with the caramel sauce on the side.

Date: Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 Time: around 7:30pm Meal: Dinner *STREET STYLE TACOS ($8): Carne Asada, Chicken, Carnitas *TECATE ($3) *SF Employer Mandates: 4% ($0.44) My group of 4 was nearby drinking and we got hungry. Decided to stop by North Beach Cantina. It happened to be Taco Tuesday, so I did their beer and taco special. For the tacos, I'm glad they let you pick and choose each taco. If not, I probably would have ordered something else. Three of the same meat would have been too much. They were all a good size. And the meat seasoned well. I adored drenching them in salsa. I just wished they had a super spicy one. Ordering was easy. You go to the counter, order, pay, get your number, and find a table. It wasn't packed at all, so we found a four top in the corner by the front. They bring the food to you based on number, but since we all ordered separately, there was some confusion. Easily remedied tho. Great spot for Taco Tuesday. REVIEW #3647

A coworker recommended this place, and now I recommend it to everyone. What stands out is the balance--everything is done well. The meat is rich and flavorful, the tacos themselves are just as good, and the consommé ties everything together perfectly. I've tried places where one part is strong but something else falls short, but not here. You also get free sides like onions, cactus, radish, and beans, which make the meal even better. I've been coming back ever since, and I can easily finish three tacos in one sitting. On my most recent visit, I had two birria tacos and tried their birria ramen. It was surprisingly good--comforting and flavorful, more like a homemade dish than anything instant. For drinks, I've tried all their jugos, and the jamaica is the standout--get it in a large. Service: Friendly, efficient, and straightforward. Orders come out at a good pace, and the staff keep things moving even when it's busy. Ambience: The space has a Frida Kahlo-inspired design, which adds character and makes it feel lively and unique. There's one restroom available. Parking: Parking can be a bit difficult in the area, so expect to walk a little--but it's worth it once you get your food. Tacos El Patron is worth the effort to figure out where to park, etc. it's not quite a hole in the wall, but it definitely is on the smaller side, and we ended up getting food to go because it was just easier. The birria quesadilla was a total surprise. It was FILLED with a very generous amount of meat. The meat was tasty, lightly seasoned, and the portion truly is a shareable. We asked about the consommé and I don't know if they just forgot it or what happened but we never got to try it. The shrimp taco was tasty and absolutely filled with again generous amount of shrimps. Ironically, it wasn't my favorite. It just was lacking the level of flavor that I really wanted. The Carne Asada was mediocre at best and not something that I would order again. The winner out of the numerous items that we ordered was the pork belly and the Al pastor. Between the two, the Al pastor is the one that you want. Incredibly well seasoned, a nice hint of light spice, the meat was juicy and tender, and the combination in the taco was outstanding. Seriously so good that my mouth is watering just thinking about how tasty it was. The chips were nothing to write home about, and I didn't really care for salsas that came with the meal. Really reasonably priced, generous amount of food, and absolute worth the push in enjoying their food! Pretty decent amount of meat. The quesadilla was also good with a decent ratio of cheese and meat. I thought the al pastor was missing that typical strong savory-sweet flavor though. They also added pineapple in the quesadilla. There are a lot of options in the area but this place is worth a try.

There's also a pickled veggie, radish, and lime bar along with 4 different (spicy af) sauces. Not sure which one was sooo spicy, I think maybe the white-ish one which is misleading haha. We came for the Al Pastor but was wowed by the Lengua. Asada quesadilla was also good, especially when you bite into a fatty piece of Carne with cartilage :D

I cannot sing the praises of this place enough and am worry that you all will ruin it by going. But I've got to give credit where it is due. Plenty of varieties of seafood dishes but it's the al pastor negro that I loooooooove! My friends dragged me here and I'm so glad I came, even though I never did when I use to live not too far away. Now, I live 30 minutes away and have to drive far over a highway to come but it's so worth it! Bravo! Gracias, Chefs Hector Ordaz y David Pacheco and Manager Norbeto Granillo (it's on their business and catering card). You can tell they take PRIDE in this taqueria!

The sauce that was on top was a cream fresh or aioli type of sauce. I really enjoyed it on my taco. The steak wasn't as good. Very mid no real flavor to the steak and I added salt to it for more flavor. The tortillas thy use for the tacos were extremely yummy , very happy with the quality of them. I added the orange sauce to my steak taco and it wasn't spicy which I was hoping for. The agua de horchata was okay it consisted a lot more of the leche condensada. I would recommend getting a different fresh water. I went today later in the day I was the only client in there so I didn't get to experience a lively atmosphere so I can only really speak on the food and wait time.
