    Escalivada - eggplant, onions, pinenuts

Bota Tapas and Paella Bar is a really good Spanish restaurant located near Union Square. They have an extensive menu of various Tapas plates you can share. Here's what our party of 3 had: Jamon de Bellota (aged Iberico ham), *Brussels Sprouts, *Bacon wrapped dates, *Garlic prawns (really delicious in a garlic sherry sauce to dip bread in), * Spanish Meatballs made of beef & ham with cheese, Escalavida which is an eggplant, onion, pine nuts etc. mixed all together. Then we shared the "Regular" size seafood paella which was perfect for 3 people if you are also having tapas. They made the rice just right, crispy. Dessert - we shared the San Sebastián cheesecake, I think I would try one of the other desserts next time Wine - good list of Spanish wines, I had a glass of albararino, excellent. Restaurant is nicely decorated and service is good -- will definitely be back.

Planned a Friendsmas and decided to head downtown to check out BOTA. BOTA is a tapas and paella bar with a spacious vibe and a menu packed with great options. We kicked things off with pear confit, a charcuterie board, patatas bravas, Brussels sprouts, grilled octopus, and grilled eggplant that totally reminded me of a tartare. Then came the oxtail and, of course, the seafood paella. Verdict? Uber delicious. Definitely not your average tapas spot. The amazing service and even better company made the whole experience unforgettable. Check out my photos.

Service was great and food was delicious. Ambiance of the restaurant was great. We loved the bacon wrapped dates and charcuterie board. Garlic prawns- 5/5 Meatballs- 4/5 Bacon wrapped dates: 5/5 Patatas- 3/5 (too much seasoning) I would come vacj

Came here for Father's Day and it was pretty good. We got quite a few tapas and then two of their paellas. The tapas we got were the meatballs, mussels, chicken cannelloni, and oysters. The paellas were the seafood one and the squid ink. Dessert was the Creme Catalan as well as the churros. All four of the tapas were perfect. I do wish the oysters were bigger though. There were plenty of mussels otherwise and the chicken cannelloni was really good too. The meatballs were amazing and with the extra sauce, it was easy to use bread to soak it up. The restaurant overall was a bit quiet since we came during lunch, but it was perfect for my parents. Our server was also extremely attentive and got everything we ordered in a timely manner. Overall, definitely would come back if I had a craving for Spanish food in SF.

Stumbled upon this gem while staying at the hotel across the street. The paella is absolutely devine - loaded with fresh seafood, giant prawns, squid, calamari, mussel. The paella right is perfect, you can taste the saffron, complex umami lightly smokey flavors. My 5 year old ate iit non stop too. Very nice adult restaurant but kid approved deliciousness lol

Stopped in for dinner before a show. Definitely not a spot for cocktails, but they had a good wine list. All of the food was very flavorful and we enjoyed it a lot! We decided to stick with tapas instead of paella, and it was more than enough food. Highly recommend the octopus and shishitos. We also had the patatas bravas and the steamed mussels. Our server was attentive, and answered questions. This spot is in a hotel, but doesn't give that vibe. The only odd thing is the bathroom is downstairs in the hotel.

Very good! We love Spanish food and wine, so we were looking forward to trying this restaurant almost directly across from the Curran Theater. We made reservations but almost had the place to ourselves at 2:30 in the afternoon after a Saturday matinee. The restaurant is in a lovely space attached to the lobby of the hotel next door, and although it was quiet during our visit, I'm pretty sure it's bustling during normal meal hours. We weren't quite hungry enough to taste all we would have liked, but enjoyed some tapas recommended by our kind waiter -- Secreto Ibérico, Oxtail, and Grilled Prawns -- along with grilled bread and a delicious bottle of Tempranillo. Note -- if you plan to have 2 glasses each, it's worth it to get a bottle here. The prawns were very slightly dry, but the meats were outstanding. Overall the food was rich and succulent, accentuated with lots of Spanish olive oil and garlic. We'd definitely return and I'd love to try more dishes next time. Delicioso!

Dio was an exceptional manager and provided the most enchanting night for my and some good friends. The paella and ambiance were exceptional, can't recommend enough. Keith always made sure we had a great night.

Picked this place based on the rating and quick skim of reviews, not realizing it's a hotel restaurant. That doesn't matter because it's a good restaurant on its own! We enjoyed the Squid Ink Paella--there were only a few pieces of shrimp but lots of mussels. The flavor was complex and the rice was a nice accoutrement. Does "accoutrement" work here? Maybe "accompaniment." We also enjoyed the Bacon Wrapped Dates appetizer and Brussels Sprouts side. The chocolate ganache dessert was rich, sweet, and good. Service was kind, fun, and funny.

Overall the food is of good quality here, the service is professional, and ambiance is classy. However the menu is limited and there isn't much of a cocktail menu either. F O O D: Paella 3.5/5 stars Taste and presentation were great but the seasonings lacked despite seeing that they used real saffron flower strands that were visible in the rice. A good paella but not one I would drive into SF for again. Bacon wrapped dates with manchego cheese 5/5 stars This tapa only comes with 5 pieces so there's that awkward who takes the last one whether it's 2, 3, or 4 people... why do restaurants do this??? It's probably more irritating since it was so delicious. The perfect pairing of sweet dates with the savory flavor of bacon and melted manchego at the center. I also loved the attention to detail in plating it with greens and edible flower petals. This is a mouthwatering dish. I would definitely order this again. Brussel sprouts 4.5/5 stars Crispy, tasty, a bit oily but great nonetheless. It also is a small portion. S E R V I C E: Sometimes it was hard to get a hold of the server so we asked the other server attending the other table near us (we were the only two couples on this half of the restaurant) but I like that they weren't overbearing in their presence either. They refilled the water glasses in a timely manner too. A M B I A N C E: Lovely atmosphere with thoughtful curated design. Great place to take a date.

Fantastic ambiance and incredible service from our waiter, Keith! Highly recommend the potatas bravas, Brussels sprouts and shrimp, so delicious! Location is perfect for a bite after a show at one of the many theaters. It's in a gorgeous hotel so a great place to grab a drink before heading out for the night!

    Churros

The meat paella was a fabulous introduction to Spanish cuisine -- the chicken was juicy and the rice was texturally balanced. I also highly recommend the patatas bravas and caramel churros! Finally, the customer service was attentive and welcoming. We'd come here again!

And I was tired of the typical American or Italian fare. Abrazo popped to the top so I booked the reservation for 7:30. When we arrived, we seated at a wonderful table in the corner of the restaurant. The main dining room is boutique sized, but they don't overstuff it with tables so you do not feel like your neighbor is breathing on your food or listening to every word you say. Ha. Ha. The service was impeccable. They treated us like guests. We chose to eat from the small plate portion of the menu, although the main course meals looked incredible as well. Every dish was delectable. From the brussels sprouts (which would not be one of my typical selections - but which was mouthwatering ), to the Salmon (which is much more closer to lox than American Salmon), to the meatballs, to the garden salad, every bite was flavorful, fresh and brought smiles to our faces. And don't forget to order their fresh bread. And did I mention the service? Home style, friendly, attentive.... Like great local restaurants used to be. I highly recommend Abrazo - both special occasions and for a "let's try something different" week night. We had a reservation and was shortly seated after a few mins of waiting. The restaurant was small and cosy. We got the croquetas and house-cured salmon. Both were very delicious and finely curated. The croqueta tasted like what I had in Spain in fine restaurants. The aioli had some truffle taste to it and it's not overwhelming. Normally I stayed away from truffle tasted dishes but this was good. The salmon was very good - it's perfectly salted and the beet puree and dill-yogurt sauce go so well with it. The depths of flavors and texture were perfect. The highlight was the paella. I can confidently say it's authentic - socarrat at the bottom and I'm very happy that it's not salty! The taste of the paella suits my palate so well.. and the shrimp on the paella was incredibly - cooked so tender and fresh that salinity in the shirmp shines on its own. If I had to nitpick I would suggestet having extra salt on the side of the paella and aioli to go with it :) Service was average - staff seems to have different responsibilities and were pretty busy. The food was the best part of the experience. Bravo Abrazo!

Not sure how long it has been up, but hopefully they reopen soon because this place is great! Now, despite having bookmarked them a while back, I have to admit it took news of The Spanish Table's longtime Berkeley location closing a few months ago to finally motivate me to check them out. However, that's on me, as I had heard nothing but great things from friends who had been here before. As soon as you step inside, you're immediately met by a whole slew of products from Spain - racks of bottles of wine, kitchen staples like dry goods, rice, canned seafood, and spices, a table with samples of olive oil, fridges chock full of cured meats and cheeses, shelves of earthenware, cookbooks, and even paella pans in a whole range of sizes. As awesome as their retail/market selection may be, though, the food counter here is what really caught my eye. Whether it be one of their hot paninis or cold Bocadillos, everything sounded so good (they also have a mix of coffees and teas). Yet, after reading through all of their options, THE PIG & FIG panini sounded too good to pass up. Filled with Jamon Serrano, Campo de Montalban Cheese, Orange-Fig Jam, and Arugula, this was terrific! The jam and jamon made for a sweet and salty pair, the cheese was delicious, there was a fair amount of meat and arugula, and the bread was soft and lightly toasted. That being said, presumably because the ingredients are imported from Spain, the overall portion felt a little light for how much it costs (~$15) when compared to your usual sort of large deli sandwiches. Given how the challenges and obstacles that forced them to close their Berkeley location (and their Mill Valley outpost earlier this year) are likely present here as well, it wouldn't be surprising if this temporary closure becomes permanent. Unsurprising, but certainly no less unfortunate. Here's to hoping that doesn't end up being the case, though, because I'd love to come back again! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

I got the white sangria, which was light and refreshing, while my friend got the Rosa wine - though it came out looking like a white wine so not sure if we received the right thing. Regardless both were tasty. We opted to get 2 orders of croquetas and 2 orders of the bacon wrapped dates - each order comes with 2 of each, as well as a trio of churros which came with chocolate dipping sauce. While everything was good, nothing stood out or was super memorable, and we were definitely still pretty hungry afterward. We ordered one beet and chorizo flatbread, which was pretty disappointing since it was cold, and the flatbread felt like it could be storebought and put together at home - we actually didn't end up finishing it. The mushroom skewers were a bit more unique and we enjoyed the pickled minced veggie topping that it came with, and the mushrooms had a good texture. After adding on the flat bread and skewers to the $45 Happy Hour deal, our bill came out to about $120 for two, and we weren't too full - since the food didn't really standout I can't say that I'd recommend coming here.

The Hueso Asado was scrumptious, buttery and full of flavor, but half of a bone marrow was too small for an appetizer and only served with 4 small thin crostini. For entree we had the Ojo de Bife and Malbec short ribs. The Ojo de Bife which is the rib eye was delicious and grilled perfectly. The meat was not as tender, but the meat itself had a lot of flavor. The short ribs were excellent! Very tender and scrumptious. I would order this again. They should bring back the beef tongue or Lengua. I heard it is a must try. Anyway, we had a great time. It was a great atmosphere and love the vibe on this place. Would definitely come back!
