Please don't waste your money here. We felt so disappointed with the food. The staff were friendly and the overall vibes of the restaurant were pleasant but ultimately the food needs to taste good in order for customers to come back. Unfortunately, the steak skewers tasted old and reheated, not fresh at all and very greasy. We ordered the uni tagliatelle and did not taste uni at all. It had like an essence of seafoody flavor but definitely not uni. I got the Tokyo bubbles as a drink but tasted like flat sparkling water with a shot of straight ethanol. So disappointing because we really wanted to like this place, the interior was really cute. Won't be back sorry :(

Came here for SF restaurant week to try out their $60 four course meal and it exceeded my expectations! My friend and I just shared 1 of the set menu options and added and okonomiyaki pizza. My favorite was definitely the pizza and Japanese curry bucatini. They gave full size portions of every dish so it was more than enough for the two of us. Service was a bit slow and it took a while for our drinks to come. It definitely got more crowded as the night went on and looks good for a date night spot or a big group dinner too. Overall would definitely come back and try their other dishes.

First off, love the style and feel of this spot. Super fancy--I almost felt out of place! I came here for a group dinner of about 12 people, and they had a nice long table for us in a spot that felt a bit secluded from the rest of the restaurant, which was really nice. We started with their Tempura Misto Mediterraneo (basically calamari with shrimp and veggies). It was very good. The battered asparagus was one of the best things I ate. Still some crisp to the asparagus while being soft, with a good crunch from the batter. I got the Tokyo-Burger Toscano. I always love trying burgers from fancy places. This one was good! The brioche bun was so good, and the burger itself was cooked perfectly with nice seasoning. The house "secret sauce" was pretty good--very tangy and a bit spicy. But it did really overpower the burger, to the point where I was getting sick of that flavor by my last few bites. The potato wedges were very good but nothing too special. Everyone else really enjoyed their dishes from what I could tell. This is a pretty good spot! Definitely upscale and pricey, but I think worth the experience for sure.

I'm really into the idea of a unique meal so the fusion between Japanese and Italian food sounds super interesting. I was very interested in coming here to drown my sorrow in a shitty day of work For appetizer - I got the Focacciapan. It was the highlight of the night. It was hot - fluffy - lightly sweet. Just the biggest hug you ever need. For the main - At first I really wanted to get the uni pasta. Anything uni is my favorite - unfortunately previous reviews seems to indicate the uni is quite sparse for the dish so I switched to the Maremiso Maltagliati: clam pasta. So I was excited because it looks great but then I don't think it agrees with my taste buds like it was quite rich and somehow both salty and bland at the same time. I'm like is my COVID tongue back because why don't my tasting gland understand what is going on . There's one fried shrimp that is fat and plump but it's also kinda bland and the coating feel apart when you cut into it. The clams were ok - at least they were fresh. I tried to finish but I didn't really enjoy it. Kind of a risk for fusion food - I'm sure maybe others could like it but not for me. Then come to dessert - I was trying to decide between the matcha bomb and the sesamesu. I thought the idea of ice cream some nice so I got the sesamesu. So the ice cream was a really light sesame I actually quite like it and it came with a light wafer cookie that was also pretty good. I guess I'm not a tiramisu person since the rest of the dessert was too sweet and too chocolatey for me so I didn't finish. Next time I be sticking to just ice cream Service was phenomenal. My server is the sweetest and was super attentive. And gave also all the nearby table here utmost attention equally. They also gave me like constant refill on my ice tea which other spots in the city would have charge extra for so I appreciated that The food is a hit and miss but the menu is creative , with great service so there are stuff I wouldn't mind coming back for. Damn I should have gotten another focacciapan togo that one is a must get

Another great meal at the open kitchen/chef's table. We had a great time here last time that we asked for the same table. The kitchen is open anyway, but this table gives you a real view into the kitchen. We started with a complimentary bowl of roasted peppers and olives. The peppers were tasty, but the warm seasoned olives were fantastic! We ordered a few drinks, including the lychee raspberry martini and the spirited away. Both were amazing! We went with the focaccia, the tokyo Caesar salad, the special lobster roll, the shrimp and burrata roll, the okonomiyaki pizza, and the curry bucatini. The focaccia was drizzled with truffle oil and served with a truffle butter with honey and a sprinkle of salt. The butter combo made the focaccia really unique. The tokyo Caesar salad looked overdressed but it was perfect. The lobster roll was just okay, but the shrimp tempura and burrata roll had a charred piece of citrus that made a great flavor profile. The okonomiyaki pizza has great flavor and a great crust. The curry bucatini was solid. Dessert was the chocolate whisky gelato and the sesamisu. They brought us the Japanese whiskey gelato as a complimentary item. With some extra wafers. The desserts were all great. We also had the Executive chef/owner give us some insight into some of the dishes and we also got a kitchen tour. Overall, a great experience!

Stopped for dinner and enjoyed the experience. Service started out great, but fell off as the evening went on. I don't blame our waiter as he was working hard, but similar issue of being short staffed. I was fine with waiting, but hubby was getting impatient. Very impressed with oysters, they were fresh and not a single grain of sand. Food came out hot and delicious. Apparently the chef is a renowned pastry chef so our dessert was different and very good. Also, like the ambience, very trendy and clean.

This restaurant was extremely mediocre and we were unimpressed, to be honest. It takes a lot for me to give a 2 star review. Mostly the low review is for the food and waiter service. I'll start with the few redeeming factors: decor was lovely. The restaurant is not in a great area but inside was nice and felt safe. The hostess and plate runners were very nice and helpful. That last bit should tell you everything you need to know about the waiter. He was not patient, barely came over to help us, and was hard to flag down. I felt like I was annoying him and I was uncomfortable when I was ordering. Finally, the food: WAY overpriced. The sirloin yakitori tasted like fat and deli meat. The hanger steak was too smoky and the potatoes/mushrooms very, very salty. The margarita pizza was watery, thin, messy and bland. Mushroom sushi was quite basic. Uni pasta does not have fresh Uni on top (despite recent pictures) Hope they are able to improve a bit because the decor is nice and the idea is unique but it was a never recommend never return for me.

Itameshi Tagliere $36++ Expensive & mediocre

I came to Ciaorigato for the first time mainly because of the interior -- and I have to admit, it is very Instagram-worthy, that makes a great first impression. Unfortunately, that's where the highlights ended. From the start, expectations didn't match reality -- especially given the pricing. Everything here is quite expensive, so naturally I expected elevated quality across food and drinks. That didn't happen. Drinks: I told the server I don't like sweet drinks and usually go for an Old Fashioned. He recommended the "Ronan," assuring me it wasn't sweet. It turned out to be extremely sweet -- honestly like drinking a glass of sugar. I later found out it contains ume plum and probably plus additional sugar as well, which explains it, but this should have been communicated. It felt like the staff didn't fully understand what they were serving. We also ordered a Lychee Raspberry Martini, which leaned on the sweeter side as well. Food: Itameshi Tagliere ($36++ for 2) -- Beautifully presented in a boat-shaped plate. Portion size was generous (honestly enough for 4 people), but flavor-wise it was just okay. Nothing memorable. Tempura Misto Mediterraneo ($22++) -- This was disappointing. The batter was thick, oily, and dark brown -- nothing like a light tempura, this is absolutely not tempura batter, and the name is misleading. Easily one of the worst dishes we ordered. Okonomiyaki Pie 4 Formaggi ($26++) -- Creative concept, but execution didn't work. It tasted overly sweet and didn't resemble okonomiyaki (no bonito flakes, missing key elements). Another miss. Uni Tagliatelle ($32++) -- Probably the best dish of the night, but still very mediocre for the price point. The pasta tasted very ordinary, nothing special. Service: Service was okay but surprisingly slow considering the restaurant wasn't busy on a Friday evening. One nice touch: a PR staff member filmed our table (likely for social media) and gave us a complimentary tiramisu, which I appreciated. Overall: Beautiful space, but the food and drinks don't justify the price. Between the overly sweet cocktails, inconsistent execution, and underwhelming dishes, this was a disappointing experience. I wanted to love this place -- but I wouldn't come back.

Very mid food would prob not come back again. Pasta lacked flavor, the other dishes ordered weren't that much better. Inside was nice though, good for corporate dinners

Ciaorigato is a portmanteau of Ciao (Italian hello/bye) and Arigato (Japanese thank you). Located inside Hotel Bijou, this is a relatively new Japanese and Italian restaurant. It also has a sister restaurant focusing on Italian and Mexican food. We came here to celebrate a birthday, and were seated immediately since we had reservations. Not sure if most of the diners were hotel guests, but it was full for a weekday. Our order: Crudo al Mirtillo ($20.00): +Beautiful: The flower-shaped pickled daikon, herbs, petals, and vibrant colors made it hard to dig in. +Loved the different textures and flavors -Hamachi was kinda fishy. -Tiny & pricey: You know that shocked Pikachu face? That's how we were when the server put the bowl down. We counted 6 small pieces of hamachi. Focacciapan ($9.00): 4 rolls +A baby of Italian focaccia and Japanese milk bread, the rolls were fluffy, warm, and soft. +The truffle butter and organic honey were perfect pairings, creating a party of flavors (buttery, earthy, floral, savory, sweet) -Didn't taste the herbs de Provence Hanger Steak Tagarashi Yuzu ($32.00): +Herbs and petals added much needed color and freshness to the dish. -Steak was super salty: It was probably marinated too long in the miso-Clabrian marinate. -Not sure if it had already melted, but we didn't see or taste the togarashi yuzu butter. -The least salty part of the dish, the butter lemon roasted potatoes tasted like regular roasted potatoes. -Instead of the fennel listed on the menu, there was a pile of sliced onions. Uni Tagliatelle ($32.00): +Tagliatelle was al dente. +Herbs and petals added much needed color and freshness to the dish. -Very salty w/no uni in sight: Pictures from previous reviews showed actual pieces of uni on top of the pasta. However, they were nowhere to be found on the plate we received. When we asked a server, he said that it was changed to salmon roe tagliatelle. I told him that the menu said uni and he brought over another server. She told us that they changed the recipe and it's now incorporated into the sauce. Side notes: 1.) Hot water available upon request. 2.) 5.75% SF Mandate added to all purchases. 3.) Walking distance from Powell and Union Square Stations *Verdict: Thank you, next Even though we put down we were celebrating a birthday, no one even said happy birthday. In addition, staff tried to take away dishes before we were done, and they kept bumping into our chairs. The oddest part was when we asked for a receipt and the server said the printer was broken. However, she was able to print one after I insisted because we wanted to have it for our records to make sure we weren't overcharged.

Came in for a casual Tuesday night dinner with no reservation and was seated right away. This is a great place to come catch up with a friend over some drinks and food. There's a lot of variety on the menu, carbs, fried, salad, fish, meat, etc. The $19 "TEMPURA MISTO MEDITERRANEO Lightly battered prawns, squid, and seasonal vegetables, fried crisp. Served with induja aioli and a fresh lemon wedge" was well worth the price. The prawns were cooked perfectly, not chewy and overcooked. The $9 "FOCACCIAPAN & Fresh-baked herbs de Provence milk bread served with truffe butter over organic honey (Italy's focaccia meets Japan's milk bread)" was so good that I would come back just to eat an order of this myself. The bread was fluffy. The truffle butter paired will with the honey and bread. It all melted together. The $32 "UNI TAGLIATELLE Hand-cut tagliatelle with sea urchin cream, tobiko, and leek's gremolata" was unlike anything I've had before. The way the pasta was cut added incredible texture to the pasta. The sauce clung nicely to each noodle. It had a deep creamy flavor. Pass on the $26 "TOKYO-BURGER TOSCANO American wagyu patty, scamorza affumicata, heirloom tomato, baby gem lettuce, caramellized onions, and house "secret sauce", on a brioche bun, served with rosemary fries". The flavor wasn't there and the burger was a bit dry. I would take an in n out double double over this. I loved the potato wedges though.

I took my partner to this place for their birthday dinner and we both enjoyed it a lot! I think something has to be said right off the bat about the staff though -- they were wonderful! I am looking at our receipt now and the woman who helped us is named "Oana E.," and Oana, you really made us feel welcome and special! She was so sweet and personable, and it felt nice to still see sweet people in the food industry. I hope your boyfriend puts a ring on it soon, Oana, you deserve it! (She talked with us about how it was cute that we were married and happy, and how she hoped her boyfriend would propose soon - since it had been a long time since they got together!) The open kitchen and bar was just gorgeous. I find it so calming to be able to see our food being prepared! (Plus, the whole place was spotless - including the kitchen!) We ordered the focacciapan as an appetizer and gobbled it up very quickly. It was delicious. Something about the butter it was served with reminded us of not-so-basil-y pesto? I don't know, but we loved it! I ordered the bucatini tsukune curry as my entree and my partner ordered the ciaorigatoni as their entree. We loved our dishes and sampled from one another! The ciaorigatoni was delicious and it felt so authentically cooked - like, just very fresh! My bucatini tsukune curry had a bit of spice to it, and the chicken meatballs were SOOOOO good! I felt sick for a second while eating because I ate it too quick - everything was too good to be slow about! My partner got the lychee raspberry martini with their meal and I ordered a yuzu spritz with mine. I am so thankful I did! The lychee raspberry martini was kind of bitter to me, but it was still a lovely drink. I favored my yuzu spritz and was very happy with the leaf on top of the glass. I loved the presentation of the food - it gave off the vibe they were looking for: Japanese and Italian fusion! Lastly, we were given the dessert menu and got one order of matcha bombolini and one order of the seasonal sorbet. The flavors were mandarin (one scoop) and lemon-ginger (the other scoop). I REALLY didn't care for the mandarin one and neither did my partner - but we understood why. It tasted very fresh and VERY heavy of orange peel. Hey, at least we know the reason for it being bitter was because it was so authentic. The whole restaurant sang happy birthday to my partner and it was super sweet - some of the other customers also joined in. I loved this restaurant, and while it WAS pricey and something out of our comfort zone (flavor and texture wise), I wouldn't have changed it! Altogether, all of our food and drinks were $129.02 and since we were short on money after that, we could only get the bill up to $140.16 with tip. I promise I would've given a heftier tip if I had more money to play with, this restaurant deserves it. * I think for "picky eaters," the focacciapan and ciaorigatoni would be the best options. Very simple ingredients, especially if you ask for no mushrooms on the ciaorigatoni, as my partner did. Thank you for making us feel welcomed, Ciaorigato!

If you're in the mood for something bold, fun, and memorable--not strictly authentic but definitely adventurous--Ciaorigato is worth a visit. The okonomiyaki pizza alone makes it: it's probably one of the best single expressions of their fusion approach, balancing tradition and novelty. If I were you, I'd go with a couple of shared plates, include that pizza, maybe the Nero di Tokyo, and take your time with cocktails.

The first time I came here, I got the strawberry matcha latte with my friends. We ordered it via delivery on DoorDash, and I'm not sure if it's just the whole delivery part, but I could not taste any part of the strawberry! It just tasted like regular cream on top. Typically I'm more of a coffee person than matcha, so I'm not a great judge in whether this was good matcha or not. But I guess it did taste ok in my opinion. The funny thing is, my coworker also said the same thing when she ordered the strawberry matcha latte a separate time! Disappointing. A separate time, we also ordered from them via delivery. This time I was eager to try their food items instead, since they have a pretty interesting selection, like those cake sandwiches and various Japanese items. I got the spam masubi, which I thought would be a solid choice. It did arrive warm, but the slice of spam that was in the masubi was so thin! It was the thinnest piece of spam I had ever gotten, and I've gotten spam masubis at a variety of places including ABC stores and other places in Hawaii, and even various stores in the States. The rice was okay, some brown rice thing with seasoning, that was decent but not my preferred white rice. Overall my two times here have been disappointing. I will really never line up for this place in person, nor will I understand why people do.

What we ordered: + San Ten Mori (assorted sashimi) [4/5]: The highlight of our meal was the yuzu wasabi that came with the salmon + amberjack in this set. It was sooo delicious and spicy. The fish were plated beautifully, and the quality was pretty good. + Shungiku Kama Sarada (chrysanthemum greens & duck breast) [6/5 - would recommend]: WOW. I was so pleasantly surprised by how fresh, crunchy, and acidic this salad was. The greens are amazing. On top of that, the duck breast was so tender and delicious-- I just wish the dish came with a few more slices. + Chicken Oyster [4/5]: I really loved how juicy this was. I normally don't like chicken because of how dry it is, but this was a great skewer. I wish the skin was a little less burnt. The chicken was also so thick that while the outside was juicy, the inside was a little drier. + King Trumpet [4/5]: Wow! These looked amazing when they arrived. I thought the flavor was great but the texture was a bit rubbery. + Kama Tama Udon (carbonara) [4.5/5]: Delicious! I couldn't stop eating this udon slathered in amazing thick sauce. + Chiizu Tori Katsu [4/5]: This was sooo good. I wish the cheese ratio was 3x as much, but the flavor and tenderness of the katsu is delicious. Huge props to Rintaro; my Resy reservation was initially cancelled due to an accident in booking, but the staff was so friendly and went above & beyond to help me get my reservation reinstated at a similar time.

The smells are incredible from smokey fish as they sear the final touches with a blow torch, to the sizzling goodness from the yakitori grill. It's such a fun place, and the freshness (especially the fish flown in from Japan) is unbelievable. The service was pretty good. Our waiter was a bit forgetful, but it could be because he had a packed bar of guests. We had an incredible experience, and will be back again!

The beautifully presented board comes with katsu in your choice of salmon, tuna, crab, or roe, paired with the creamiest delicious tamago I've ever had, carrot & purple slaw, miso soup and potato salad topped with a delicately carved carrot in the shape of the letter "B". And to finish, chocolate mochi rounds out the meal. The only thing I'm upset about is I forgot to take a photo of how nice the brunch set looks before I ate it. I was too excited! But I'm sure other Yelpers will pick up my slack. In addition to the brunch set, I tried the matcha latte made with oat milk. I'm not a big fan of milky drinks but thought I'd give it a try anyway. Whoa! That was my initial reaction. I would go back here just to get the matcha latte. It's really that good! And the service was impeccable. Kind, attentive, informative. I think we could all use a little Bon Nene in our life.

My party of 4 was seated right away on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm. Small cozy restaurant with…read morefantastic ambience. We shared the yaki onigiri, chicken karaage, original mushroom potstickers, katsu curry rice, and the mentaiko spaghetti. Our favorite was definitely the mentaiko spaghetti - it was the highlight of the meal. Flavorful, hearty, and unique. The chicken karaage was also pretty good and came with a delicious spicy mayo, though the chicken wasn't as warm as I'd hoped. Yaki onigiri was good as well, the soy sauce flavored rice had good flavor but I personally would've preferred a filling inside. Original mushroom potstickers and katsu curry rice were both skips from me. The potstickers didn't have that much flavor to me, and they were really flimsy and fell apart upon picking up. I had higher expectations for the katsu curry rice as well but maybe it was an off day, as the chicken was dry and stringy and the curry didn't have the classic rich/deep flavor I was expecting. Overall glad I got to try Bon, Nene once! Definitely worth trying the mentaiko spaghetti here.

What an experience! We were celebrating an anniversary and planned a bit last minute, but were able…read moreto snag a reservation here pretty easily. Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

Our server was so attentive and thoughtful and really helped make the entire experience so much fun. This was also some of - if not the best - sushi I have ever had. Everything was extremely fresh and the fish melted like butter in my mouth. Every course was extremely flavorful and just truly deliberate; there was a story behind everything. They also have a really great sake list and our server recommended delicious pairings that went well with each course. I genuinely cannot wait to go back and experience another Omakase here!
