I've been coming to this place for years, probably twenty plus years at this point and it's always been consistently good. Asian fusion with a leaning toward some Indonesian dishes. The menu is broad with many tempting options. Inside the restaurant has always been maintained in a pristine manner and very indicative of a tropical themed environment. Not kitchy but contemporary with a Southeast Asian bend. Four of us came and had a delightful dinner. We started with an order of Indonesian corn fritters which were fantastic, with a sauce. They are always consistently good. For my entree I had the Cumin Braised Lamb with noodles and it was equally enjoyable. The lamb was so tender, pulled, and fragrantly braised. The broth, green beans and other ingredients were spot on, along with the delicious glass like noodles. The bit of spiciness was spot on. It comes in a bowl. I usually get the Dandan noodles and two others got it and enjoyed it. We also ordered a side order of Brussel Sprouts, flavorful and tasty. For a drink I had the Tumeric Lemonade. Wow, it was so refreshing. I typically get a beer but this was worth trying. Others had an Arnold Palmer where you can customize the tea selection. This place used to be excellent in its early days. Tonight it was incredibly disappointing. My husband ordered the Butternut Squash dumplings and Pad Thai. He added shrimp to the Pad Thai for an additional price. There were only two shrimp. The dumplings were too spicy for him. He couldn't taste anything but the chili. It permeated everything. The Pad Thai was uninspiring and he didn't even finish it. I had the corn fritters which were great! I should've stopped there. I ordered beef and garlic noodles. It was okay. The beef was a little tough and tasted off This meal came to 200.00 with tip. A lot of money to pay to be so disappointed. If you choose to eat there, hope the food is better. My family and I came here with a large group after we watched the Odyssey at the Metreon. It wasn't a long walk to get here! They have a pretty good happy hour if that's up your alley. I enjoyed my Dandan noodles. They were filling and had a nice portion of vegetables. I liked the sauce flavor. Others enjoyed the chicken katsu sandwich. We also shared salt and pepper calamari, buns, butternut squash dumplings, oysters, and buns for appetizers. My favorites were the butternut squash dumplings (so unique! So fresh! So fun.) and the oysters (good flavor.) For cocktails and drinks, I liked the Kimchi Bloody Mary and a friend enjoyed the Pea flower cocktail. I love a Bloody Mary and this was a good one. The food was solid, but it really didn't wow me like a destination place. Famous Indonesian Corn Fritters: The highlight of the meal, I can see why these are famous. Crispy batter surrounding tender corn kernels. Also, a nice umami heavy sauce. I could have eaten a whole plate of these myself, instead of sharing! Indonesian Fried Rice: It was a large portion with lots of char siu pork. Though the pork was in large chunks and a bit too chewy; smaller cuts would have been better. It didn't seem as flavorful as the nasi goreng I've had elsewhere. Roasted Char Siu Black Cod: Small portion of fish, despite being one of the more expensive items on the menu. At check-in, the hostess acknowledged the birthday, yet when dessert arrived there was no candle or any recognition. When I mentioned it on the way out, the response was simply, "Oh well, I can let the manager know," which felt dismissive. Overall, the food and service were average at best (3/5), while the ambiance was disappointing (1/5). The décor looks unchanged since opening and feels dated. The women's restroom was also poorly maintained--no seat covers in any stall and a wet floor. With so many better options available nearby, go somewhere else as I would not recommend. read more

My wife and I went in on a Friday evening for happy hour and enjoyed the whole experience. Not crowded at all but we like to sit at the bar and had very attentive service from a super happy and super polite bartender. $9 Old Fashioned's were well made and a great price. Because this was our first timing dining at E&O, we went with the Kamayan Platter. This turned out to be a great decision, as it allowed us to sample many flavors and items from the menu. The star of the platter was definitely the steamed pork buns. WOW... so good! Looking forward to going back next time we are in town to explore the rest of the menu. read more

Such a yummy dinner at E&O tonight from the moment we walked in, the energy was warm and welcoming. Came here for the first time on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn't crowded at all. The interior and ambiance was really nice. We ordered the Pad Thai with chicken & Indonesian Corn Fritters. I also ordered the Jaded Buddha drink too. The pad Thai was alright, noodles were a bit thin and the chicken was a bit overcooked/burnt (forgot to take a picture of it). There's corn fritters were fine too, but the sauce that came with it made a huge difference, otherwise, it would have been plain. It had a crunchy chip like texture. The jaded Buddha drink was good but had too much ice. Service was fine. Restrooms are downstairs and there were 4-5 stalls. It was clean. Barely any parking nearby. E&O Kitchen totally surprised me in the best way. I didn't expect the food to be this good--everything we tried was creative and full of flavor. The Shokupan was incredible, honestly some of the best I've had anywhere in the U.S.--soft, fluffy, and perfectly toasted. My friends and I decided to head over here for happy hour after a girls day out enjoying sights at Embarcadero and seeing a new exhibit at SF MOMA. It was a family style dinner and some of the plates were : ceaser salad (very good, the best dish in the meal ), sliced bedf (too fatty) , salmon in the oven (not great , way too overcooked ), chicken in green curry (pretty bad , chicken was not marinated enough ). The food here was definitely worth the price. The beef and garlic noodles was my favorite tonight, beef so tender and full of flavor from the dish. The green curry chicken was a very close second, you can eat this with rice all day. We love eating papaya salad spicy, I'm not sure if there was an option here and I forgot to ask. When it arrived, it tasted so light, fresh, and crisp. We liked it as well. The pad thai with chicken was not bad here, I'd say I have had better, and it could just be our personal taste. This place is nice with a cool bar, decor is modern and comfortable, and the restaurant is huge with plenty of space for large parties. Food was good. The cha siu cod was amazing! Perfectly cooked and buttery with a savory sweet finish. And the watercress or spinach that came with it was delicious too. It took a long time to prepare though so don't order this if you want a quick meal. We also got some small plates: satay beef, crab empanada, and lettuce cups. All were good but not next level delicious like the cod. And the price point was a bit high for these. They do charge the employee service fee. This was disappointing to have to pay, especially given that service was slow. The staff were really nice but attention tapered off on refilling water and checking on us when we waited so long for the main dish. I would definitely recommend coming here for the cod dish because it eases good, but maybe try some of the other small plates next time. read more

The restaurant is right off of the Union Square station hence super easy to get to by public transport. The place is spacious and has a warm, inviting vibe. The open kitchen was a nice touch--it was fun watching the chefs cook and interact with customers. After glancing at the prix fixe menu, we couldn't resist the call of the kabocha soup and hand-pulled noodles with lamb. Seated next to the kitchen, we could even see the chef in action hand-pulling the noodles! Our food was brought out quickly, and we were pleasantly surprised with the generous portion sizes for each course. While super thick, the kabocha soup had a nice kick to it that cut through the richness. I was nearly full by the time the noodles arrived, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the chewiness of the hand-pulled noodles. Each noodle was coated in sauce and mixed with tender pieces of lamb. For dessert, the chocolate pot de crème with blueberry was also super rich, but it ended the meal nicely. Overall, the food was tasty, and my friends and I had a lovely evening. The E & O is an beginner level Asian fusion restaurant. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. The ambiance was nice in the back and bar of the restaurant but with the building being an older style it does lack the curbside and front of house appeal. The food came out very quickly and the highlight of our meal was the Ahi Poke from the small plates menu and our beverages. They have quite an extensive bar and the liquor is very reasonably priced especially for San Francisco. The Black N' Orange is a must try if you like Thai Tea and it was DF! The menu was incredibly helpful with allergen indicators. Our only complaint is that the satay and pork buns were fairly under seasoned. We described our food as good but the seasoning level being the only factor from reaching the great category. Overall I would recommend trying this place out for Lunch or Happy hour. Or even to try some new foods that won't be aggressive to the pallet but well cooked and well served. read more
