Very friendly service, has seats on friday nights, but food portions are small for the price. Compared to the rooftop bar, the price is higher downstairs and portions felt exactly the same. There are also more choices for appetizers and small bites upstairs. My favorite was the scallop mentaiko pasta, portion was decently large and they gave us four large scallops. Dungeness crab was disappointing, not a lot of crab, and tastes like vegetable bean soup. Miso Black Cod was delicious, but also small portioned for the price. Ambiance is lovely though, would recommend if you're looking to impress a date.

THE BIG: Located in the neighborhood closest to Oracle Park. Japanese and Peruvian fusion dishes. I didn't realize Kaiyo was a rooftop and a restaurant vibe. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here for dinner while I was staying in SF and this was right next to the hotel I was staying at. Getting seated wasn't bad as there was ample space at the bar. For food, I got the lima roll, pulpo parrillero, and lomo saltado. The beef tenderloin seemed like a stir fried beef which was alright. The favorite was definitely the pulpo because that was a big chunk of octopus. The lima roll was good, but that's about all I have to say for it. Service was great and attentive! THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall for the three dishes, it was around $95. The fusion is unique, however food-wise, it was a miss for me.

Second time here. First time in the restaurant. I'm too wimpy about the cold to go to the rooftop tonight. The rolls are amazing. The service is always excellent and attentive. The vibe is great. Everyone is having a nice time here. I cant wait for an excuse to return!

Stopped by on a Saturday for an early dinner. Made a last minute reservation, showed up early, and we were seated right away. Our waiter was nice and friendly and asked us if we were celebrating anything. When we mentioned that we were celebrating an anniversary he kindly offered complimentary champagne. The restaurant itself was colorful and vibrant with Peruvian and Japanese inspired decor. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. The shishito peppers were tasty and we somehow ended up with several super spicy ones. It's all good though, we know the risk. The miso black cod was warm, comforting, and a well balanced dish. The vegan scallops were a little tough when it came to the texture and didn't quite mimic an actual scallop but the flavors were great. The eggplant was tasty but some pieces were a bit underdone. The Nikkei nigiri set was fun to try out all of different combinations of fusion flavors. My favorite was the Lomo Wagyu. The only downside was they were out of one of the dishes that we were interested in trying (Lentil Tacu-Tacu roll) and a cocktail (Coco Rashi) which I found a bit strange since it was a Saturday and we were one of the first tables to be seated.

We loved it!! This restaurant features Japanese Peruvian fusion cuisine. We had also just came back from Peru so this dinner felt nostalgic :') We came in on a Saturday night with a reservation and it was packed. Modern and chic setting. We ordered an assortment of warm and cold shareables. My recommendations!: Lentil Tacu-Tacu Roll- nothing what you expect in all the best ways. It's got an assortment of well cooked veggies and rice on a crunch cabbage crisp with a nice sauce. Yucca Fries- super crispy, nicely seasoned Hamachi Tiradito- very aromatic, sauces paired well with the yellowtail We're still talking about this dinner even days later, it was that good.

3.5 The indoor space is fine, nothing to write home about, especially compared to the rooftop. Service was attentive and efficient, no complaints there. We were hoping to try the scallop udon, but it wasn't available. Our server suggested the matcha fettuccine instead--it was interesting, though definitely needed more salt to bring out the flavors. The clear standout of the night was the miso black cod: incredibly flavorful, buttery, and perfectly tender. Easily the best dish we ordered. The Pac Heights roll, however, was disappointing. At $30, it didn't feel worth the price--the uni had an odd consistency and off color, and the soy wrap instead of seaweed threw me off. If it had been closer to $20, I'd have been much happier with it. Overall, some dishes hit while others missed. The cod alone might be worth coming back for, but the rest of the menu left me wanting more for the price.

We came here for a friends birthday and it was a perfect place to celebrate with a perfect fusion of Japanese and Peruvian food! My favorite starter was the miso butter corn! Perfect for sharing for the table. A crowd favorite was the normal Salado, which was very flavorful, but a little too salty for my liking. We tried the guava crème brûlée for dessert, and I loved the subtle taste of guava in a traditional crème brûlée. Service was wonderful and the ambience was very cool and chill with low playing music and the Giants game on the big screen This is really close to Oracle Park so a great spot to grab dinner before after a Giants game . There's a rooftop bar that was also very cool to check out

Had a great experience at kaiyo today! My friends and I were able to sit at the bar with no wait, and the bartender was really friendly! Great conversationalist and tried out some drinks For the food, the scallop mentaiko udon was really tasty! Not too heavy but the scallops they gave were very tender and soft, and large too! Would recommend ordering this item! Crab dish was a bit small but it had the right flavor notes. Miso black cod is always a good safe option, would also recommend! Lots of umami flavor The sides were surprisingly great additions, especially the crispy brussel sprouts. They are on the saltier side but the crunch makes it absolutely worth it! The ambiance of the place is definitely worth taking a special someone out, with dim lights and great food. If you go to the rooftop bar, the views of SF are also pretty!

We came here for a celebration and we were really looking forward to it, but honestly it wasn't the best experience. The ambiance is very aesthetic and nicely designed, but the service and food missed the mark. The food wasn't terrible, but not amazing by any means. I did like the Lima Roll though. The smoky flavor from the torching elevated the flavors. I recommend trying that! We were seated by the bar next to a glass wall, which had a nice view but it was so loud and chaotic. It was hard to have a conversation and tough to get to the bathroom with all the people crowding around the bar and lounge areas. Overall it just wasn't a relaxing or enjoyable rooftop dinner. For the price point I expected way more from both the service and the food.

First of all, the ambiance and decoration are phenomenal! Great job! It is a mixed between Peruvian and Japanese. This is a perfect place for some drinks and fancy pictures on instagram. However, if you are looking for a foodie experience.. the plates are : meh...the plates look nice! But are far from Peruvian flavor nor good fresh good Japanese. I know what you are thinking "probably she just tried once" actually no. I have to say that the mocktails are great tho very nice but very expensive 18 box for a non alcoholic drink *uncomfortable silence*. The Ceviche flavor was definitely no fresh I don't know if it was the happy hour effect on the fish but ewww no no no. Lima sushi was good and yellowtail alright. Summary: Go for drinks and get nachos. The view and decoration are awesome just eat somewhere else. Service at the Rooftop was awesome. First floor nah.

If you want fresh quality seafood I definitely recommend coming here. I came here on valentine's day and enjoyed their prefix menu which came with four courses. Each course was incredible their sushi was so fresh and melts in your mouth. The scallops were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My only complaint was the steak had a very distinct charcoal flavor, would recommend sticking to seafood if you decide to try this place. The service was great our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and intimate. Definitely would reccomend trying, a good date night spot.

The classic ceviche was DELICIOUS and I loved the corn ribs! I wish I had a bigger appetite because the entire menu looked glorious. Highly suggest going around 5pm because the mix of San Francisco skyline at golden hour is a VIBE! Reservations are a must, but we somehow got lucky and were able to sit at the bar. The bartenders were full of energy and I loved that they made the experience more fun. Perfect date or GNO spot! I will definitely be coming back!!!!

My husband and I came here on date night and the food and drinks were outstanding. Service could use some charm but I wouldn't remove a star based on that. Great location, great concept and I would def come back for the Miso soup.

Both were delicious. I particularly liked the Salmon Mango roll - it was a perfect mix of sweet and savory. The rolls came with 8 pieces each and each piece was a good size, so it was plenty for two of us. I also got a Sapporo beer (bottle) to sip on.
