Nice dainty modern take on Japanese fusion dishes in the Mission District. A bit on the smaller restaurant side, get's lively and bustling but the staff are friendly. Willing to answer questions and explain specifics. The menu is okay, not a huge selection but has the classics to pick from. Gyudon, savory and sweet, slightly fatty. Good bed of rice with sauce, a solid dish, however did not blow me away. The ginger and soy flavor were good. but was a bit bland without the sauce. Mentaiko Spaghetti, i love mentaiko, i wish it was just a bit prominent. It was still tasty and rich, just not enough mentaiko for me personally. Portion is alright, a bit on the smaller side. Great spot with good takes on the dishes, i don't regret coming and i may come back to try other dishes!

Waited about 15-20mins to be seated for weekend lunch. Note your whole party needs to be there to be seated Katsu curry rice (7/10) - seemed to be missing a lil something. Could've used a bit more salt or flavor for more impact. Not bad but I honestly probably wouldn't get this again Gyudon with udon (8.5/10) - my first time trying gyudon with udon noodles! You can also do rice but our waitresses recommended the udon version. Soup was delicious and rich, and the meat was tender and flavorful Barley tea (8/10) - refreshing! Great barley taste. No sugar so just know that it's straight up tea

Cute Japanese spot tucked away in the quieter part of the Mission District. The menu and style of this spot reminds me of a cafe restaurant that you can find in Tokyo. As a party of four, we made a reservation a few days in advance on a weekday with no issues. Even on a weekday though, the restaurant got pretty busy so it's definitely a popular pick for a dinner spot. We ordered the mentaiko spaghetti, champignon pasta, takoyaki, gyudon, and katsu curry. I also ordered the frozen beer which seemed to be their most popular beverage. It looks cool when it comes out but it melts fairly quickly and is just a regular cheap beer. A bit gimmicky so I'd skip this. However, the food was really delicious with the standout being the mentaiko spaghetti. Noodles were cooked al dente and although it's considered a creamier type of pasta, it didn't feel heavy or thick. It was light but packed with flavor at the same time. I'd definitely come back just for this dish! Everything else was good as well but nothing extraordinary that you can't get elsewhere. Not many places in SF sell mentaiko spaghetti so definitely drop by for this one!

Delicious food, good portions. Mushroom pasta is buttery as heck and super tasty. Only thing I wish was different is the maguro bowl comes with way too much rice for the small amount of fish. I'd rather pay more for more fish/better balance.

Date of Visit: 6/25/2026 Visited Bon, Nene in Mission District in San Francisco on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. The cute neighborhood restaurant offers Japanese plates with some French cooking techniques. The most popular dishes includes the gyoza, onigiri, and koji marinated karaage. The 1,000 square foot space only seats about 35 people, and the open kitchen and bar area that is great for family and friend gathering. We visited on a Thursday afternoon around 1pm, and put our name down on the wait list and waited for about 10 minutes before the server took us inside. Iced Tea $4 My friend got the mugi roasted barley iced tea. Hojicha Latte $7 I got the hojicha latte. Mentaiko Spaghetti $19 One of the signature dishes is the mentaiko spaghetti, with cured cod roe mixed into creamy buttery sauce. On top there were nori and parsley. Gyudon $19 We also got the gyudon with thinly sliced beef cooked in sweet ginger soy sauce with onion, mushroom and egg served over rice. Onigiri Lunch Set $19 We also ordered the onigiri lunch set, including 2 pcs onigiri with edamame, chicken karaage and miso soup. We picked salmon and chicken onigiri, the rice portion was a little too much.

Such an adorable little japanese spot! We came here for lunch on a Saturday. We came around 15 minutes before they opened, so we were one of the first people on the waitlist, but multiple parties also did the same thing. If you're planning to come on a weekend, I'd recommend also coming early or it might be a bit of a wait especially since it's a pretty small store. The mentaiko spaghetti was my favorite item, I really liked the cod roe sauce. It was super flavorful & creamy and the pasta wasn't overcooked! My friend got the gyudon and I tried a little bit but I didn't really like it because the sauce made the rice wayyy too soggy for my liking. I really don't like wet rice LOL Overall, a super cute and vibey restaurant, perfect for a weekend lunch out. Servers were sweet too!

We grabbed lunch at Bon, Nene on a weekend a few months ago. We got there shortly before opening and there were already a few groups waiting outside, but we luckily just made it into the first seating. We shared an order of mentaiko spaghetti and the weekend special, because I can't resist a "special" and a bunch of sides. The mentaiko spaghetti was predictably good, but I was a little disappointed in the weekend special, which was pretty salty and not particularly gingery or porky. Overall, I'd say that the food is about equal to the sum of its parts, which is pretty good when one of those parts is mentaiko, but kind of mediocre otherwise.

No reservations, so go on a warm night when it's not annoying to stand outside. We waited about 20 mins, and were seated outside since we wore warm clothes. We ordered quickly and food arrived fast. The Mentaiko Spaghetti is. so. good. It was creamy and perfectly cooked. I wasn't even that hungry but I finished the whole plate. Since we were outside the noise level was low but just inside it was very loud. Glad that we got an outside seat. Will be back for that delicious Mentaiko.

a pretty small shop but we didn't wait long as we came early (6pm on a weeknight). the staff are friendly and food comes out fast so we were in and out within an hour. the menu is japanese fusion and we got the: - mentaiko spaghetti - gyudon - katsu curry rice - hijiki salad the mentaiko spaghetti had a nice sauce and texture but I wish it had more ingredients like protein/veg so it wasn't so rich. gyudon also didn't have that much meat. katsu was slightly dry. salad was good!

Was visiting some friends and SF and saw this place was popping! We waited about an hour for 3 people on a Friday night as they were pretty packed both indoors and outdoors. The restaurant is small and cozy, pretty standard vibes. As for what we ordered: - Mentaiko Pasta (5/5): this was by far the best dish and really stood out! The flavors were so bold and the spaghetti was cooked perfectly. It had a nice umami flavor and the textures were great - Tofu Bowl (4/5): the tofu was lightly friend and airy which was good! The sauce was delicious like a sweet soy and really tied it together! - Katsu- Curry Rice (3/5): wanted to love this more but it was just standard curry and katsu. Curry almost tasted like the box ones but katsu was fried nicely. Nothing too special Overall good food and exactly as described but not a standout for me. Would probably only go back for the mentaiko pasta!

Waited 45 mins on Friday night. Was very busy, and was hard to flag down server to take order. The mentaiko pasta was good but felt like needed a bit more sauce. The champignon pasta was pretty dry. Cheesecake was good

Came here for dinner around 7 and put our names down on the list outside. We ended up getting seated around 8. We didn't mind the wait since we had heard such great things. They initially sat us at a larger table but moved us to another one when a bigger party came in, which was no problem at all. The menu looked amazing with lots of tempting options. We started with the vegetarian potstickers and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was fine, nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable either so I'd probably skip it next time. The potstickers on the other hand, were really yummy and a great way to start the meal! For mains, we got the champignon pasta and the mentaiko spaghetti. The champignon pasta was delicious, very mushroom-forward, super creamy and savory, and topped with dried seaweed which added a really nice depth of flavor. The mentaiko spaghetti was also creamy but leaned pretty salty and more fish-forward. Even though it's one of their signature dishes, we actually preferred the mushroom pasta! Since it was a cold night, we ordered warm milk tea, but it was pretty average with a subtle tea flavor, probably skippable. We wanted to try dessert, but they had sold out by the time we got to it, which was a bit of a bummer. Overall, a solid spot with some standout dishes, especially the pasta. Would come back to explore more of the menu.

I'm a big fan of japanese italian fusion and have tried some great places in socal so wanted to see if SF has something comparable while I'm in the bay. Bon, Nene isn't a huge restaurant but their turnover is pretty quick. Would recommend coming earlier in the evening though if you come on the weekend since there was a wait to sit inside. Waitlist is a paper sign up sheet. What we ordered: 1. Hijiki Salad - this was one of the most unique dishes I've ever had. Super refreshing and light, a perfect compliment to the heavy pasta. Everything in it goes really well together and the sauce is umami and sweet. My only complaint would be that the dish itself is pretty watery. When we got to the bottom of it, it was basically like a cold soup. Would still recommend though. 2. Champignon Pasta - Salty with a fragrant garlic flavor. Not super memorable unfortunately and flavor was very one-noted. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente though. 3. Mentaiko Spaghetti - The star of the show. Definitely a really nice blend of everything you would want in a creamy, buttery pasta but with the added flavor of the roe mix that elevates the dish and makes it feel almost less heavy. Pasta was perfectly cooked like with the other dish. Overall, a pretty solid spot for this genre of food. Did feel that the flavors fell a bit flat for me since I have tried similar dishes before but appreciated the hearty portions and was still pretty delicious overall.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. We all noted that it was truly the perfect dinner portion where you leave full but not stuffed. The price is extremely reasonable for SF as well, so that combo of right size and right price really tickles my fancy. Cambodian Beef Skewer ($12): Bomb. Like, really wonderful. Tender, charred, salty, a bit sweet, and umami. This is one of their specialties, and I see why! It is absolutely one of the best skewers I've ever had. Pumpkin Curry w/ Chicken ($18) + White Rice ($3): So delicious. Silky-smooth curry loaded with all the mix-ins. If you like curry, just get it. I took a bite of my brother's Loc Lac ($15): also great. There was a broth + egg noodle-based dish that I can't remember the name of that was also super good. On the side, we ordered some Roti ($3 ea), and those were flaky and crispy. Finally, dessert was also fantastic. I LOVE to see a restaurant kill the mains and also bring out wonderful desserts. - Mango Sticky Rice ($8): Truly so good. The mee ka tang had wok-charred noodles topped with a mild, lightly seasoned gravy and a generous portion of protein. The prices are reasonable. Food comes out quickly and the staff is very sweet. Overall a great spot for Thai food.
