Pork Goma Ramen
Tyron C.

Finally some good ramen in SF?? We ordered the Pork Goma and Chicken Aka ramen, both regular size ($16). The portions were already super generous, but after seeing almost every other tables order the Deluxe version, I can say that the upgrade is a total no brainer for only a few dollars more. The amount of extra meat and toppings is unreal. I would order the Deluxe next time just so I can take leftovers home for a second meal. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I've never had Hakata style noodles before, but these were just the right amount of bite and texture. The broth was rich, creamy, and super flavorful with that silky gelatinous texture you want from a properly made broth where the bones are simmered for many hours. It even had this interesting foamy finish that made it feel extra comforting. The Pork Goma ramen was rich, nutty, and creamy in a way I've honestly never had before in ramen. It's super unique without being overpowering. The Chicken Aka ramen was umami and had a satisfying kick to it. I even ordered an extra side of the Aka spice and mixed some into the Goma broth which I highly recommend doing. Feel free to also ask the servers for some lemon wedges to eat along with your ramen! It pairs so well with the richness of the broth. The toppings were also thoughtfully done and vibrant. The egg was perfectly jammy, the pork belly was super soft and flavorful, and the chicken stayed juicy and tender without being dry at all. We also tried the cucumber salad and warabi mochi. The cucumber salad was refreshing and had this crushed peanut/sesame topping that added a really nice nuttiness and texture. The warabi mochi was soft, chewy, and is "not too sweet". The interior is cozy, warm, and full of cute decorations that made the space feeling welcoming and personal. Service was great, and the hostess was so kind and friendly. I also noticed that a lot of people around us were ordering the Pork Kuro ramen and everyone seemed to love it, so that's definitely what I'll come back to try next time. Overall this place deserves all the support it can get. SF needs more small businesses like this that clearly put so much effort into the quality of food and hospitality. Highly recommended and will definitely be back again soon!

We were walking to a newly found restaurant that we liked. On the way, we saw this new restaurant and decided to try it. When we stepped in, the restaurant reminded us of being in Japan. The menu is simple - whatever broth you choose, the ingredients are the same - large portion means a larger portion of ingredients. Broth is smooth and flavorful. It comes temperature hot. Food tastes fresh. We tried mostly everything on the menu.

4.5 STARS What the heezy?! Just in March, we were having gorgeous "summer" weather in the city but now we're back to SAD lamp weather. That means a steaming bowl of noodles is in order! I found Denya Ramen on yelp and their milky white broth lured me in. I tried visiting during weekday lunch but they were unexpectedly closed so I returned later that week for dinner. Walk-in only. They quietly soft opened about 1.5 weeks ago so no wait yet and we were promptly seated. It's a small, cozy resto with only 6-7 tables. Not recommended for more than a party of four. M E N U Specialty: Hakata Style Ramen - rich bone broth with thin noodles - Sizes: Regular - 2 pc protein, half egg, veggies ($16) or Deluxe: 5 pc protein, whole egg, veggies ($21) - Broth: Pork (tonkotsu) or Chicken (tori paiten) - Flavor: Shio (salt), Goma (sesame), Aka (spicy), or Kuro (black garlic) They also have a handful of apps and two rice bowl options. No beer or sake. F O O D * Takoyaki: Octopus Balls (6 pc-$9): https://tinyurl.com/37p8b2p7 Fav of the three apps, the freshly griddled balls were delicately crispy with a custardy center and a chewy piece of octopus inside. With the sauces and bonito flakes, it's savory sweet and full of umami. * Chicken Karaage ($10): https://tinyurl.com/32m3vk8j The marinated thigh meat was juicy and flavorful but a bit greasy and soggy in some places. * Torikawa Gyoza: Chicken skin wrapped veggie gyoza ($9): https://tinyurl.com/uhfvbp6r Love the concept of a keto friendly gyoza. I think the execution needs a bit of work tho...if the skin was crispy and served wit a tangy ponzu-like sauce to cut through the richness, it would be bomb. * Goma [Sesame] Tonkotsu Ramen (Regular-$16): https://tinyurl.com/ypjdub3t + Extra protein ($3.95) - Broth: Awesome tonkotsu (pork bone) broth - so creamy and milky with a deeply savory and porky flavor. The grounded sesame seeds added a mild nuttiness. Not overly heavy or salty. - Noodles: Thin, chewy, and springy. - Chashu: -- Pork shoulder: Savory and tender. -- Pork belly: Meltingly tender and flavorful with caramelized edges. - Ajitsuke tamago: Savory sweet, marinated soft boiled egg with a perfect jammy center. - Veggies: Bamboo shoot, kabocha, baby corn, green onions, bell pepper, and tomato. S E R V I C E Great hospitality from the sole serve - she was very friendly and warm. Prompt food service. A M B I A N C E Cozy, moody with maneki-neko (good luck cat) banners and hanging round paper lanterns. Overall, solid soft opening! If you're looking for a satisfying bowl of ramen with deliciously creamy and milky broth, hit up Denya!

I haven't posted a review in awhile but these guys deserve the cake! Warm cozy spot right in the heart of the Polk Gulch and open late. Food and service were amazing! They even gave me some rice to go because the food portion when you order extra protein was a lot and soooo good. The pork belly and braised pork was done perfectly and not greasy at all. The broth was a little above room temperature and that is how you are suppose to serve ramen broth (warm to the palate) broth was wonderful with an umami hint flavor yummm!

Chicken shio ramen- toppings are served on the side for your pleasure!

Denya Ramen is getting five stars from me without hesitation. I've been chasing a good tori paitan ramen ever since I discovered this glorious dish in Japan last year. For the uninitiated, it's a rich, frothy chicken broth, kind of like the chicken equivalent of tonkotsu, and when it's done right, it's absolute magic. This was only their first week open, and both the service and the food were already top tier. You'll notice the ramen is served deconstructed, with the proteins and toppings on the side. Admittedly, I was nervous at first because if you know me, you know one of my biggest pet peeves in life is cold, unintegrated ramen toppings. But they clearly thought this through. I sampled everything first, and the temperature was absolutely considered. Once combined, the broth stayed piping hot and everything came together beautifully. My favorite bites were the ajitama egg, absolute perfection, and the marinated bamboo shoots. There were also some fun pops of color and texture from sweet potato, cherry tomato, and bell pepper that made the bowl feel thoughtful and a little different from the usual. The noodles had that perfect toothsome chew, exactly what you want. Go now. Seriously. They're going to have a line out the door in no time.

Stumbled upon this gem in the polk area, i'm more of a pho person but i've got to say this place mightve just converted me for good, so read up and take it from me!!! Firstly the service was amazing, I interacted with all the employees and each one had such a warm friendly personality. That in itself makes the dining experience so much more enjoyable, not to mention the food was already so delicious! I got the chicken black garlic ramen, and I've seriously never had better ramen in my life. The chicken and veggies were fresh and yummy, the noodles perfectly chewy, broth sooo flavorful, and the visual appearance was pure art. I appreciate the option of chicken on the menu as well, as other ramen places in SF usually tend to just use pork. The variety already makes the place stand out in comparison so if you have dietary or religious restrictions worry not, this is the place for you. Overall I would GLADLY come back, regularly at that. I've never had such flavorful authentic ramen that made me long for seconds. The atmosphere of the shop was very cozy and well decorated as well, you can tell so much love was poured into this new business, and you'll be able to taste the reflection of that as well. 5 big stars!

Black miso deluxe

Came here last week on a recommendation from a close friend and I am blown away by the quality and the quantity of the ramen. I started with the cucumber salad which was so refreshing and then a great recommendation from our wonderful server led us to the chicken karaage and at the same time helped us pick out the ramen that would best fit our flavor palette. I ended up with the black garlic deluxe and I absolutely will be back. The space is small but not cramped, it's a lovely atmosphere and everyone is very friendly and attentive. I found out this place had only been open for a few weeks but it was such a smooth operation and felt like a restaurant that was much more established.

Walked in from the Polk St Block party and apparently came in on their soft opening. Wasn't really expecting much as there were plenty of seats and no reviews. We ended up being very pleasantly surprised. The pork was plentiful, tender and flavorful. Broth was thick and creamy. Better than most ramen in the peninsula. Highly recommend

This is a nice cozy spot. Ramen is well balanced with delicious pork. My partner and i got the shio ramen and the kura ramen. We both went with pork broth which was great. Servers were both also very nice and attentive.

Ask the Community - Denya Ramen

Are you guys thinking about a vegan broth and a vegan protein for an option for the rest of us on this planet, that care about the sustainability of their food and their health?

Hi Deborah! Thanks for asking! We’re in our first week of soft opening and still figuring a lot out, but vegan and vegetarian options are definitely something we care about. We want everyone to feel welcome here, and it’s something we’re working on!

I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). Since I was alone, I got to skip the line and only waited 15 minutes. The ramen was great. I would love to come again and try new one. Their duck chashu is SO GOOD. We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

They not only refunded the ramen with the issue but generously refunded the entire meal for our party. I truly appreciate the follow-up, accountability, and care--it made a big difference. I came to Hinodeya Ramen today with my partner, and this visit was really disappointing, especially considering I've been coming here for years. On a positive note, my Tokyo Duck ramen was actually very good, great portion and rich, flavorful broth. We also had gyoza and hot sake, which were enjoyable. Ambiance was a bit noisy. However, my partner ordered the beef sukiyaki ramen, and when it came out, there was a thick, short, wavy hair in the bowl, clearly not something that should ever be in food. This is a serious contamination issue. We tried to get our server's attention, and I understand it was busy, but being busy is not an excuse when it comes to food safety. Eventually, another server came over. We showed him the issue, expecting at least a proper apology or some explanation of what happened. Instead, he just took the bowl away and said a quick "I'm sorry" no explanation, no reassurance, nothing. They brought out a new bowl of ramen, but at that point, the experience was already ruined. It's hard to continue eating normally after something like that, it honestly just stays in your mind. What makes this more frustrating is that I've been here many times before with friends, family, and coworkers, and when everything goes right, it's great. But when something goes wrong, the response is just a simple "sorry" with no accountability or communication. Even on my last visit a few months ago, the broth was bland and the response was the same just "I'm sorry." At a minimum, for an issue this serious, there should be clear communication, reassurance about food safety, and a more professional response. Because of both past and current experiences, I don't think I'll be coming back. I really hope they improve their service and train staff to handle serious situations like this more appropriately.

The wait for a table was 20 mins or we can share a large table with random people and be seated immediately. We were hungry. We went with the large shared table. Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. There was a server in training that took our order with the help of the trainer- he did great. Staff was attentive with our waters. Bussers were also quick to notice and remove empty plates and bowls regularly making for an easy clean up after we leave and kept the shared table clutter free. Interior was modern, but casual. The ramen is served in large bowls, which looks impressive at first, but the actual portion of noodles and toppings felt underwhelming for the price. At that price point, I expected more both in quantity and flavor. We ordered the Dragon Tantan ramen, which the menu describes as spicy. It wasn't spicy at all. We asked our waiter if we could have a little more heat, and he nodded and brought over a tiny dipping-bowl-sized portion of some red paste with no explanation. There was no mention that it would cost extra. After finishing our meal, we were surprised to see a $5 charge on the bill for the "extra spice." We genuinely thought it was complimentary, and if it wasn't, that absolutely should have been communicated before serving it. The lack of transparency was disappointing and unnecessary. Overall: mid food, mid service, and not worth the price -- especially during such an exciting weekend in the city. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

You can sit outside too as lots of tables right on the street but it was way too cold for me. Service was quick and I ordered a Yuzu Zen (vegan) ramen. I wanted to try something different than their signature ramen. This ramen was cooked in the traditional Japanese Buddhist temple way, which was a bonus for me. I am a practicing Buddhist and have meditated at various different temple organizations and I enjoy temple cooking as its usually lighter but still very soul nourishing. The broth is lighter and its a vegan dashi broth and comes with zest of yuzu (its like a Japanese lemon), bamboo shoots, crispy kale and sweet fried tofu. I enjoyed this bowl of noodles with soup and the broth was hot, so it warmed me up. I was not really a fan of the inari (sweet fried tofu) as it was just too sweet for me. Service was a little slow towards the end as I was itching to pay and go for an evening stroll, but otherwise, a good experience. I'd come back again when nearby.
