    Deluxe pork kuro (black garlic)

During my first visit to Denya I waited in line for 40 minutes, but it was totally worth the wait. Denya offers a unique ramen experience where the toppings are served separate from the noodle soaked broth. Is this better than if the toppings were served together as most ramen places do? Not really, but this is one way to stand out. I came back to Denya a few weeks later and the wait was much shorter. The food and service were consistent and just as good as the first time. I have tried all four soup bases as well as the pork and chicken. The soups are rich in flavor and the pork and chicken are mouthwateringly tender. The appetizers are delicious as well and there are plenty to choose from. The only dessert I've tried so far is the matcha cheesecake. It's a small slice but so deep in flavor. I highly recommend everyone come support Denya, a Polk street neighborhood gem.

We were in search for dinner and decided to try Denya Ramen without looking at Yelp ratings. It was around 5 p.m., so we arrived early enough to have our pick of several available tables. The waitstaff were friendly and efficient, and the dimly lit space featured rustic Japanese décor. *** OUR PICKS *** CHICKEN KAARAGE ~ substantial amount of tender chicken, just a bit on the salty side. The sriracha mayo had a nice kick and creaminess. 3.5/5 CHICKEN GARLIC RAMEN (regular) ~ this was my order. Noodles were perfectly cooked, neither soggy nor stiff. I tried the pork in comparison to the chicken and it was a bit saltier than the chicken. I usually order pork when it comes to ramen, but decided to try something different among us. I actually enjoyed the lightly seasoned chicken more than the pork. That's a first for me! While the broth was frothy and creamy, the black garlic flavor was too subtle to stand out. I did appreciate the one piece of roasted garlic as part of the toppings. The egg was done nicely though it didn't taste seasoned on the outside. 4.5/5 PORK BLACK GARLIC RAMEN (deluxe) ~ I believe a double helping of toppings are given for the deluxe bowl. If you have a hearty appetite, the deluxe is the way to go! My guy ordered this. As it's been said, a bit salty for the pork, but broth needs more garlic flavor. We could see the black garlic sauce swirled on top of the creamy broth, but it wasn't intense. Not enough to scare Dracula away! 4/5 PORK BLACK GARLIC RAMEN (regular) ~ my friend ordered this. She said the pork was a bit saltier than expected. Generous amount given for ramen and toppings. 4/5 If there's a next time, I'd try a different broth but would stick with the chicken. Reasonable prices and plentiful offerings in a pleasant atmosphere sums up my experience at Denya Ramen.

    Sesame chicken regular

Came to check out the newly open ramen spot in Polk st. There was a small wait time even around 1:20pm, but not too bad. Food: we ordered the black garlic pork deluxe and the sesame chicken regular. We were disappointed that the black garlic ramen didn't include any garlic oil, only some dry ingredients on the side. Same with the sesame, only dry sesame powder on the side (See pictures). The broth unique in that it is foamy on the top like they aerated the broth, the taste is nice and rich. Not too salty and has a good complexity to it. Sesame powder kind of over takes the favor a bit and made it even heavier. Noodles were ok, snappy almost like egg noodles, would've preferred a bit more chew, but that's personal preference. The meats were well cooked, tender and flavorful. Rest of the toppings were pretty good too. We also ordered the chicken skin gyoza, that was amazing, we've never seen something like this in the US. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Would recommend. Ambiance: nice and relaxing ambience, high ceilings and good music. Server was friendly and there's a paper waitlist to keep organized.

4.5 STARS What the heezy?! Just in March, we were having gorgeous "summer" weather in the city but now we're back to SAD lamp weather. That means a steaming bowl of noodles is in order! I found Denya Ramen on yelp and their milky white broth lured me in. I tried visiting during weekday lunch but they were unexpectedly closed so I returned later that week for dinner. Walk-in only. They quietly soft opened about 1.5 weeks ago so no wait yet and we were promptly seated. It's a small, cozy resto with only 6-7 tables. Not recommended for more than a party of four. M E N U Specialty: Hakata Style Ramen - rich bone broth with thin noodles - Sizes: Regular - 2 pc protein, half egg, veggies ($16) or Deluxe: 5 pc protein, whole egg, veggies ($21) - Broth: Pork (tonkotsu) or Chicken (tori paiten) - Flavor: Shio (salt), Goma (sesame), Aka (spicy), or Kuro (black garlic) They also have a handful of apps and two rice bowl options. No beer or sake. F O O D * Takoyaki: Octopus Balls (6 pc-$9): https://tinyurl.com/37p8b2p7 Fav of the three apps, the freshly griddled balls were delicately crispy with a custardy center and a chewy piece of octopus inside. With the sauces and bonito flakes, it's savory sweet and full of umami. * Chicken Karaage ($10): https://tinyurl.com/32m3vk8j The marinated thigh meat was juicy and flavorful but a bit greasy and soggy in some places. * Torikawa Gyoza: Chicken skin wrapped veggie gyoza ($9): https://tinyurl.com/uhfvbp6r Love the concept of a keto friendly gyoza. I think the execution needs a bit of work tho...if the skin was crispy and served wit a tangy ponzu-like sauce to cut through the richness, it would be bomb. * Goma [Sesame] Tonkotsu Ramen (Regular-$16): https://tinyurl.com/ypjdub3t + Extra protein ($3.95) - Broth: Awesome tonkotsu (pork bone) broth - so creamy and milky with a deeply savory and porky flavor. The grounded sesame seeds added a mild nuttiness. Not overly heavy or salty. - Noodles: Thin, chewy, and springy. - Chashu: -- Pork shoulder: Savory and tender. -- Pork belly: Meltingly tender and flavorful with caramelized edges. - Ajitsuke tamago: Savory sweet, marinated soft boiled egg with a perfect jammy center. - Veggies: Bamboo shoot, kabocha, baby corn, green onions, bell pepper, and tomato. S E R V I C E Great hospitality from the sole serve - she was very friendly and warm. Prompt food service. A M B I A N C E Cozy, moody with maneki-neko (good luck cat) banners and hanging round paper lanterns. Overall, solid soft opening! If you're looking for a satisfying bowl of ramen with deliciously creamy and milky broth, hit up Denya!

Very yummy and quick to seat us on a weekday. Saw theres lines for the weekend so a weekday is definitely the way to go. Nice place to chat and feels intimate. Food was amazing, I'd come back.

Great service, flavors, and cute decor! Simple menu, just wish the broth was hotter (it was served warm) because the add ins on the side aren't super warm either. The presentation of everything is nice though.

Have been walking past this place since it opened and have been wanting to go in. WOW! The ramen is very yummy. Creamy flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, served piping hot. My partner got pork broth with original base. I got chicken broth with aka base. Both were delicious in different ways! Great service and good ambience. Will definitely be back!

Taste was really good but I wish the toppings like the pork and the broth itself was warmer. Once I added the toppings into the noodles and brother, everything felt very lukewarm temperature like it was left out. But I like how chewy the noodles were. I went for lunch on a Thursday and there was no wait.

    breaded scallops
    Aileen L.

I came to Denya ramen with two friends after seeing it pop up in my recommendations and the astonishing all 5 star rating on Yelp on a Thursday around 5:15pm. There wasn't a line, but we grabbed one of the last 2 or 3 tables at the time. It's relatively small inside, with may be 7-8 tables that can seat 2-4 people each. It's nicely decorated and we enjoyed the ambiance. Service was friendly anad prompt. We got the breaded scallops to share - the scallops were nice and large and slightly sweet, and not overcooked, and the breading was like a nice onion ring breading - just not sure the combination of the two made sense to me? Still glad we tried it though. I got the chicken tori paitan shio broth, deluxe size. The broth is rich and milky, and you can feel the collagen as you sip it, but it's not too heavy or overwhelming like some other ramen places might be. The deluxe size comes with an extra egg half and more protein, but it seems like the same amount of veggies as the regular size - I think it's worth it for how much protein you get, but as a veggie lover it would've been nice to get a little extra veggie! The noodles are nice and chewy, and have that slightly alkaline taste/scent that you only really find in quality noodles that don't get soggy. I finished all of my broth without felling oily or gross, and enjoyed every bite of the bowl! Denya ramen completely deserves its 5 star rating, and i definitely recommend coming through before it inevitably goes viral. It's one of the best bowls of ramen I've had in the city, and I will happily come back for another warm comforting bowl :)

We were walking to a newly found restaurant that we liked. On the way, we saw this new restaurant and decided to try it. When we stepped in, the restaurant reminded us of being in Japan. The menu is simple - whatever broth you choose, the ingredients are the same - large portion means a larger portion of ingredients. Broth is smooth and flavorful. It comes temperature hot. Food tastes fresh. We tried mostly everything on the menu.

    Josh R.

My partner and I are serious ramen people and we have a go-to spot in the city that's been our benchmark for years, and nobody has come close. Until Denya. This little Polk Street gem has us genuinely torn. The menu is small but intentional, and every bowl feels comforting. I went with the Deluxe Pork Goma and it delivered on every level with generous toppings, perfectly textured noodles, and a broth that was rich and creamy. Nothing on the plate felt like an afterthought, especially the pork. Ambience is intimate but not overly loud which is nice. We waited about 45 minutes, which felt like a lot going in, but walking out it felt completely worth it. Next visit I'll aim for early dinner to beat the rush. Highly recommend if you're willing to be patient.

I have not been to Japan, but this Ramen is what I imagine it would taste like if I made a friend in Fukuoka & their mom invited me for a meal. Something about the profile of the broth is insanely complex and rich unlike other ramen spots in SF. Get the Goma if you're in the mood for a decadent meal, the richness from the sesame(and peanut) is incredible. I can't wait to to go back and try the spicy ramen next.

Finally some good ramen in SF?? We ordered the Pork Goma and Chicken Aka ramen, both regular size ($16). The portions were already super generous, but after seeing almost every other tables order the Deluxe version, I can say that the upgrade is a total no brainer for only a few dollars more. The amount of extra meat and toppings is unreal. I would order the Deluxe next time just so I can take leftovers home for a second meal. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I've never had Hakata style noodles before, but these were just the right amount of bite and texture. The broth was rich, creamy, and super flavorful with that silky gelatinous texture you want from a properly made broth where the bones are simmered for many hours. It even had this interesting foamy finish that made it feel extra comforting. The Pork Goma ramen was rich, nutty, and creamy in a way I've honestly never had before in ramen. It's super unique without being overpowering. The Chicken Aka ramen was umami and had a satisfying kick to it. I even ordered an extra side of the Aka spice and mixed some into the Goma broth which I highly recommend doing. Feel free to also ask the servers for some lemon wedges to eat along with your ramen! It pairs so well with the richness of the broth. The toppings were also thoughtfully done and vibrant. The egg was perfectly jammy, the pork belly was super soft and flavorful, and the chicken stayed juicy and tender without being dry at all. We also tried the cucumber salad and warabi mochi. The cucumber salad was refreshing and had this crushed peanut/sesame topping that added a really nice nuttiness and texture. The warabi mochi was soft, chewy, and is "not too sweet". The interior is cozy, warm, and full of cute decorations that made the space feeling welcoming and personal. Service was great, and the hostess was so kind and friendly. I also noticed that a lot of people around us were ordering the Pork Kuro ramen and everyone seemed to love it, so that's definitely what I'll come back to try next time. Overall this place deserves all the support it can get. SF needs more small businesses like this that clearly put so much effort into the quality of food and hospitality. Highly recommended and will definitely be back again soon!

Are you guys thinking about a vegan broth and a vegan protein for an option for the rest of us on this planet, that care about the sustainability of their food and their health?

Hi Deborah! Thanks for asking! We’re in our first week of soft opening and still figuring a lot out, but vegan and vegetarian options are definitely something we care about. We want everyone to feel welcome here, and it’s something we’re working on!

This dish stands out as one of the most memorable and flavorful offerings we have experienced. The rich, creamy broth delivers a perfectly balanced umami depth, harmoniously combined with subtle heat and aromatic spices that create an indulgent yet refined dining experience. Both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed by its complexity and comforting warmth, and we have continued to crave it long after the winter season. The Umami Creamy Tan-Tan-Men soup represents a true highlight of your culinary repertoire. We believe it deserves a lasting place on the regular menu, where it can be enjoyed year-round by loyal patrons and new guests alike. Gretted when we entered, we slid into one the few open tables. The decor was charming, and we were quickly gretted by our server with menus and water. My sister and I split some appetizer items so we could try various items, and every single dish was a taste sensation. The gyoza was crisp on the outside while packed with a savory meat, drizzled with sauce. The Karaage was tender chicken encased in a light fried pankostyle casing, also drizzled with a sauce, and the flavor, each bite was satisfying without being too filling. The Kabocha Kor, were panko fried pumpkin patties with a tonkatsu style sauce that brought the taste buds to a more earthier place . The Tokoyaki, were tender fried octopus balls in a sauce that I would have been happy to hunker down with a large bowl of and just crush, easily my favorite bite, which is saying something as no bute was bad . We closed with an order of Hotate, which was a grilled scallop skewer. Somewhere between sea and bay scallops in size, they were an awesome cap to the dining experience. With a this, I washed it down with a peach-weizen beer which was the perfect accompaniment to the meal. Every dish was fantastic in flavor, sauces, and texture. On top of all this, the service was excellent, and the happy hour prices very much in reason.

We started off with the Mekyabetsu (Brussels sprouts), Ba-Ra (pork belly), and Kobe (beef). The Brussels sprouts were my fav starter, and the sauce paired so well with it. The Ba-Ra was pretty good, but nothing amazing, and same for the Kobe, which I found to be a bit bland. We also split the Hokkaido Miso ramen. The broth had a great flavor, and the pork chashu was possibly the best I've ever had(!) as it was soooo tender and flavorful, and not very fatty. I did think the cauliflower left room to be desired, and kinda took away from the ramen overall. We finished our meal off with the matcha Panna cotta - this was a great dessert and wasn't too sweet ;) This place definitely seems to be pretty good at a lot of dishes, but not amazing at any single one. The vibe is great, service was great, and prices are a biiiiti steep but not unreasonable.
