I haven't been to ramen in this area in a long time. This spot is across from a spot I used to frequent and though this place was familiar in name- I wasn't sure with whether this place has been acquired by someone other than it's historical legacy(which is common these days and then the quality immediately suffers with "saving money " =lower quality food. Such a bummer-so I wasn't sure & nervous. The combinations were kind of limited too. I tend to be a miso or tantan ramen person. The TanTan (cover picture)had a bunch of stuff I didn't want- spicy ground pork and something else..the miso ramen only came in spicy or spicy with corn. I was torn- but it was a cold rainy day and I needed to warm up. So I just went with the regular spicy Miso Ramen. (They said it's not too spicy)-with corn is + $2 So it came- and was so delicious! I think I get in my head of making my own ramen and those costs- what you forget is a well built broth! (Which this was.) On the table is this jar of Crunchy fried garlic and something-so delicious-I kept adding it. Was super happy and satisfied! The lady checking me out- with the bill was from Osaka to which we were both surprised-I am from nearby. So a good laugh- but i didn't ask if it's still Japanese owned. When I entered it was pretty empty to where one can't tell if it a local busy spot like my last place I used to go. But in my wait time and eating- the place was Full! They beat the drum each time people enter. I sat near the front door so my view was the front door and a window to the outside. Inside seemed cozier. I recommend that- the cold air keeps hitting you where I sat. They only offered me the front little table or I had to sit at the counter-which doesn't suit me. But-It was totally delicious- the on table toppings adds an extra 1/2 to full star for me.

Not a bad place for ramen. Located near japantown. You get an option to sit outside or inside. I got the spicy miso ramen which is their popular ramen. It wasn't that spicy unless you request to be more spicy. Broth has tasty. Comes with two pork, half an egg, some bamboo, and green onion. I do like the texture of their noodle. Food came out reasonable time. Price is anywhere from 18 to 21ish or more depending on what ramen you get. Also got the takoiyai, come in 4 pieces for $8 or $9.

I went with a group of about 10 people at around 8pm and they were so nice and accomodating of our large group. The menu is not large, but we still had trouble deciding what we wanted because everything looked do good! I got the vegetarian ramen and the broth is really what makes it. It was excellent, and the whole table was very happy with what we ordered. Thank you for a great experience!

I have a fond memory of eating spicy miso ramen here a couple years ago and loving it, so I was excited to come back and order a spicy miso ramen again. Unfortunately, the ramen noodles were too soft for my liking. There was no chew or bite, it was soft. That's a huge no-no for me when it comes to ramen. On the bright side, the broth was delicious and I have no negative things to say about the broth! It's worth a try, but hopefully you get chewy noodles when you go (unless you like soft noodles, then I hope you get soft noodles). Service was good, the waitresses were nice.

Great service, we were able to dine in with a large party of 7 under no reservation. The table was ready within a couple of minutes. The ambiance isn't anything special but it's in the cute plaza across the mall in Japantown. I enjoyed my vegan ramen with spinach noodles and I'm a kale lover, it had loads of Kale + seaweed, inari tofu, and calabaza. Shishito peppers were a nice shareable bite. Overall, I liked my experience but I prefer Marufuku! Just a preference hehe. Big difference is a shorter wait time, at least this location.

Hands down my favorite spot in Japantown for ramen. Don't get intimidated by the long line as it moves pretty quickly. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. My go-to is their Spicy Miso Ramen with the spinach noodles...and an Asahi.

I've been here a few times and it's a pretty good ramen spot but there are definitely better out there. Nice thing is it's right in the center of Japantown with lots of seating inside and outside. When we came for lunch on a Friday service was fast and there were a lot of staff working. I got the chicken umami ramen with spinach noodles. Broth was hearty and clean. Chicken was tender and soft. Spicy miso ramen was okay. Chicken karaage and green gyoza was also mid. I feel the quality is not as good as it used to be

Hands down one of my favorite ramen restaurants in the city! My go to order is the spicy miso ramen and shishito peppers. I usually DoorDash from here but decided to dine in on this rainy day in SF. Fantastic service and staff were welcoming. Plenty of street meter or garage parking. Bon appetite!

Flavourful broth and chewy bouncy noodles! Vegan yuzu ramen had a lovely yuzu smell but wasn't overpowering, it made the broth refreshing. Tonkatsu ramen was great as well, just wish the tonkatsu came in a side dish so it doesn't get too soggy towards the end. House ramen has great chashu too.

Grabbed dinner here on a weeknight. There's indoor and outdoor seating available, though we opted for indoor to avoid the cold (there's heaters outside though). Upon being seated, we were given menus and water. You can either order with the server or scan the QR code (you can pay via the same method so you dont have to deal with splitting the check). A few people in our group were vegetarian so they got creamy vegan and the clam ramen. My partner got the spicy miso butter corn ramen with extra noodles on the side. I split the dish with him since I wasn't too hungry and it was a good amount. Chashu was perfectly soft and fatty. Takoyaki was very mid, probably one of the worst I've had in the city. Texturally was just mushy and flavor wise honestly only tasted like sauce. Bonito flakes seemed like they were all the small leftover pieces at the bottom of a bag.

Overrated Maybe there is something good on the menu...based off my experience the house ramen was lacking flavor. Watered down broth 0 to no flavor. Super disappointing. Gave me a dried up piece of meat was not even a full circle. And another not full circle piece. The piece I was given after asking for a less dried put piece was stellar like the pictures. Very disappointed server and chefs did not care about the quality control. I looked around and other ramens looked more loved. The pork had good flavor. However the broth was so bland that the flavor disappeared quickly. I like the noodle texture was fresh. The inside was packed. I really am not sure what the hype about. Maybe was popular because it is open late. Waste of money.

This is one of our go-to ramen spots in San Francisco. We discovered the city location first a few years ago, but we've also checked out their Newark branch. We were in SF Japantown one evening, and decided to place a takeout order. By the time we walked just two blocks to the restaurant, the food was already waiting for us! The takeout orders are just to the left when you walk in. However, a staff member will need to hand it to you. The gentleman handling pickups that evening was incredibly welcoming and appreciative. I was shocked that the order was ready in under 10 minutes, and everything was still piping hot and delicious by the time we got home. I always order the Hamaguri Ramen with littleneck clams. I was shocked by the portion size this time...literally counted 26 clams! The buttery dashi broth was so flavorful and light, and the noodles had that ideal, al dente chew. You have the option of swapping out their regular noodles with spinach noodles for no charge. The Vegan Creamy Ramen is another hit with our family, you'd never guess it's plant-based...and I'm not even vegan or vegetarian. The rich shiitake mushroom dashi broth is the perfect base the dish, and it comes loaded with toppings: four generous pieces of inari, crispy kale, nori, bell peppers, and Kabocha squash. We always order extra noodles since there's usually a good amount of broth leftover. This makes for a pleasant leftover meal. The dining area was very spacious with even more tables just outside the restaurant. (see my photo of the restaurant front) Given it's already fall, there weren't many outdoor diners. However, it's nice to know there's an option to sit outside as this place fills up quickly at dinner time, especially on the weekends. A warm bowl of ramen would be perfect for the cool SF evenings!

I had their clam ramen last year and haven't stopped thinking about it since. It was so good that we grabbed a bowl as soon as our plane touched down this trip. I'm already on my second bowl in 2 days. This time I tried the Japan town location. Financial district location has better vibe but the quality is just as good at either. The broth is light, clean and packed with flavor, and the clams are always fresh and generous. Safe to say I'll probably be eating this every day until we leave. Some cravings just don't quit.

I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

The wait for a table was 20 mins or we can share a large table with random people and be seated immediately. We were hungry. We went with the large shared table. Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. There was a server in training that took our order with the help of the trainer- he did great. Staff was attentive with our waters. Bussers were also quick to notice and remove empty plates and bowls regularly making for an easy clean up after we leave and kept the shared table clutter free. Interior was modern, but casual. They had an expansive menu with vegetarian choices, sushi, buns, karage, etc. and a surprisingly large array of alcohol. I would def like to be back to try some drinks.

The ramen is served in large bowls, which looks impressive at first, but the actual portion of noodles and toppings felt underwhelming for the price. At that price point, I expected more both in quantity and flavor. We ordered the Dragon Tantan ramen, which the menu describes as spicy. It wasn't spicy at all. We asked our waiter if we could have a little more heat, and he nodded and brought over a tiny dipping-bowl-sized portion of some red paste with no explanation. There was no mention that it would cost extra. After finishing our meal, we were surprised to see a $5 charge on the bill for the "extra spice." We genuinely thought it was complimentary, and if it wasn't, that absolutely should have been communicated before serving it. The lack of transparency was disappointing and unnecessary. Overall: mid food, mid service, and not worth the price -- especially during such an exciting weekend in the city. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

Kobe Skewer - 7/10, it was good but nothing extraordinary. It'll hit the spot if you like meat skewers Yuzu Tori Skewer - 7/10, same as the kobe skewer, but the yuzu on top was delicious Niku Ramen - 8/10, good portion & very very flavorful. I'm glad that they gave a lot of meat in this. I shared this & they provided an extra bowl without me asking :) It's also not super spicy. Hokkaido Milk Pudding - 8/10, the pudding itself was so good but the sauce was a little too sweet for me. However, my partner has a sweet tooth and loved it :) Will totally come again, everything was so yummy and so glad to have tried it!

When we arrived, there was already a long line out front, which set the tone. The place is small and intimate. The food was out of this world. I got the pork belly skewers, mushrooms in truffle sauce, a unagi hand roll, and a shrimp tempura hand roll. All of it was excellent, but the mushrooms and pork belly truly stood out. Every dish felt like it was made with deep care and intention. Our server was attentive throughout. We had a fantastic time. Definitely make a reservation before you go!

I ordered the spicy edamame and the yu-Lin-chi. The edamame definitely has a kick to them and the chicken was great. Nicely coated.

Yelp and Google both had…read moreHinodeya higher rated than Ippudo (I wasn't in the mood to battle whatever mob scene might be happening at Mensho), and this place was literally right across the street from my hotel, so I made a mad dash for this place as it was friggin' cold in SF on a late Spring day. If you try to come here around 6-7pm, there is a long line waiting to get seated, but it moves fast. I kept peeking out of my hotel window and by 7:30pm, line was almost non existent, so that's when I went down to get dinner. When I arrived, I was immediately shown a seat inside. You can sit outside too as lots of tables right on the street but it was way too cold for me. Service was quick and I ordered a Yuzu Zen (vegan) ramen. I wanted to try something different than their signature ramen. This ramen was cooked in the traditional Japanese Buddhist temple way, which was a bonus for me. I am a practicing Buddhist and have meditated at various different temple organizations and I enjoy temple cooking as its usually lighter but still very soul nourishing. The broth is lighter and its a vegan dashi broth and comes with zest of yuzu (its like a Japanese lemon), bamboo shoots, crispy kale and sweet fried tofu. I enjoyed this bowl of noodles with soup and the broth was hot, so it warmed me up. I was not really a fan of the inari (sweet fried tofu) as it was just too sweet for me. Service was a little slow towards the end as I was itching to pay and go for an evening stroll, but otherwise, a good experience. I'd come back again when nearby.

The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, with a nice light seasoning that didn't overpower the dish. The curry sauce was rich, slightly sweet, and had just enough depth to keep you going back for another bite. Portion size was great for the price, and everything came out hot and fresh. The vibe felt cozy and laid-back--nothing fancy, but definitely the kind of place you'd come back to when you're craving something reliable and filling. Only reason it's not a full 5 stars is I wish the curry had a bit more spice or complexity, but that's personal preference. Still, a really enjoyable meal overall and worth checking out.

Came with friends to get a quick dinner before heading to North Beach!…read more The service was great, as the servers checked up on us and took our order swiftly. The ambiance was also quite nice. I enjoyed the wall decor, and the ambiance is a bit darker. As for food, two of my friends got the creamy vegan ramen (they're vegan and vegetarian). My other friend for a pork don with a spicy miso ramen, and I got the gyu-don with a spicy miso ramen. The food was very delicious - everything was cooked well, perfectly flavored. I like the rice plates as they come with a tiny bowl of ramen of your choice :) Overall, we would definitely come back again as we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience!
