We love Tapas and both work in a Tapas restaurant so we LOVE dining at other Tapas restaurants to explore the dishes, the ambiance, and see how the restaurants as a whole execute the tapas-style food and beverage service as well as create the unique vibe that comes along with this style of eating. We were both totally wowed by Destapas. We loved every single dish, we loved the energy and warmth in the building and we both agreed this was our favorite Tapas restaurant that we have been to thus far (not including the one we work at). Made reservations for a party if 5 AM n a Tuesday evening during the holiday and we were the second party there at 6PM. There was only one other party and made me wonder if the restaurant is really popular dinner spot or not!! We ordered quite the variety of food as we wanted to gauge the quality compared to what their tapas restaurants. Our order included the Patatas Bravas, squid ink paella, ox tail paella (special), octopus, shrimp, artichoke leaves, fried eggplant, and omelette along with a charcuterie board. The entrees were delicious. The ox tail paella was a major hit with the softest meat! Octopus was super soft, the fried eggplant was such a unique yet simple dish with such wonderful flavor! The omelet and Patatas were just ok for me personally. The staff was super friendly and attentive. We also opted for the almond cake and churros to share for dessert. Must admit the churros were the best with the chocolate dipping sauce. I could pass on the almond cake/tart! By the time we left, the place was packed with few people waiting! Came for a friend's birthday and we had the tasting menu for 10 people. The inside was small and very cozy. The food was delicious! There was a huge assortment of tapas and it was just the right amount to try everything but also be very full! The staff was SOOOOO KIND! Such a cozy little Spanish tapas spot; we came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was perfect for a group dinner. Wow ! This is such a delightful spot. We stopped in before a show at Brava. The back patio is darling and tucks in many tables: two top, four top and six top for all party sizes. The food was so good and shareable I forgot to take pictures. Service was attentive and kept us on time. My friend and I shared the crisp fresh gem wedge salads with delicious lemon anchovies and the chicken paella. We wrapped with cheesecake which was velvety and smooth. Destapas is such a warm and inviting spot! I really loved the squid dish -- tender, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The sangria was also excellent, refreshing and not overly sweet, which paired perfectly with the food. I do wish the patatas bravas was more crispy and seasoned, but overall still pretty good. Our server Luis, from Madrid, made the night even better with his kindness and welcoming personality. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly, making it a great place to relax over tapas. We got the pork cheeks, oxtail cannelloni, brussels sprouts, patata bravas and the squid ink paella. We ordered the paella right when we sat down since it takes at least 20 mins to make. The rest of the tapas came as they were ready. I really liked the brussels sprouts, they were cooked perfectly and was flavorful, slightly too oily for my taste though but the flavor was there. The patata bravas could have been a little more crispy, the outside of each potato made the whole dish taste kind of stale. The pork cheeks was really good and soft. The oxtail cannelloni was interesting. The béchamel was kind of thick and chunky? so it had a weird texture. Without the béchamel, I really liked it. Then came the squid ink paella, I think the flavor was good but it was overly salty and really black compared to other squid ink dishes I've had. I really enjoyed the texture of the rice but the saltiness was overpowering. I did enjoy the dinner but some of the dishes have improvements to make. read more

We came here on a weekend evening with a reservation and by the time we were heading out the place was pretty full (except for some spots at the bar). I liked the bacalao stuffed pepper dish, pork cheek, and the garlic shrimp(with an interesting smoky flavor) and overall the flavors were rich. Wine pour was generous! Service was a bit slow and we had to flag the servers down but nothing major. I was unimpressed with the cold cut platter, and wasn't a huge fan of their oxtail paella on the special menu but I am biased since I prefer seafood over meat on my paella. I consider the food here overall were pretty Spanish with some creative elements to it. I will come back again for their more signature dishes like seafood paella and croquetas. read more

Fried eggplant : A+ (didn't taste like eggplant. Tasted light and airy...was actually fantastic.) Calamari: A+ , soft, fresh, delicious.... this is a place to always order the Calamari! It really was perfect. Devil eggs: A., very good, unique flavor... I'm not positive, but I'd say they add liquid smoke. Very nice profile. Drinks; were fine... Seafood Paella:... this is where the food fell off for me. It was lacking dimension for me. If compare to a plate of muscles... there was a few pieces of other fish and prawns, just tasted 1 note to me. In future... I'd stick with the tapas and just feast on the deliciousness. Came here when they opened at 2pm on a Saturday and there was no wait. The server was super friendly and sat us wherever we wanted right away. We ordered the seafood paella (put the order in before deciding on appetizers so the kitchen can get started on it), veggie empanadas, and prawn. The seafood paella was just what we wanted and a must-try! The veggie empanadas and prawn also came out hot and tasty -- I'd recommend these as well. My friend and I had a really good TGIF dinner at Destapas. We shared the anchovies, pear and arugula salad, octopus, paella mixta and basque cheesecake. For any Spanish tapas place, the octopus is really my test dish and this version was done really well - it was perfectly cooked and tender with a great smoky flavor. The anchovies were a great starter and the salad was just nice and refreshing for me (I've gotten very zealous about making sure I eat my greens). The paella mixta was our server's recommendation and it had a good amount of meat and bomba rice that was cooked just right (it had a little bit of crunch on the side, which I love since I am a fan of Korean bibimbap). The basque cheesecake was a great way to finish this meal. Service was good, fast and efficient. We were done in about an hour. The restaurant has a bit of casual elegance to it and is a lot cozier inside than what it looks from the outside. I booked a reservation here for Saturday at 7:45 pm for a party of 4. Things were off to a rocky when I missed a phone call from the restaurant at 430pm saying I had to call back by 5 to confirm my reservation, otherwise they would not be able to hold my table. I found this ridiculous for many reasons, but I called back at 715pm to confirm and the owner (?) said I was confirming too late but he'll try to squeeze us in. When we arrived, the restaurant was half empty. It also smelled like cleaning supplies. Despite all of this, we thoroughly enjoyed everything in our meal. I would opt not to get the potatos bravas next time though as they were soft and not that flavorful. But you really cant go wrong with anything else - including the tuna tar tar, sausage and cheese platters, dungenous crab dip, and squid ink paella. The menu was extensive but everything was plated beautifully and tasted great. Dessert was amazing - one of the best cheesecakes ive ever had. read more

Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully prepared. You can tell the Chef was picking "in season" ingredients, which make his dishes fresh and flavorsome. I highly recommend the pear and arugula salad and the mushroom croquetas! Paella was a bit salty, but it was a deliciously seasoned paella cooked very well! Went here for dinner with a friend. This is a cute little restaurant with lots of solid tapas. We started off with the chorizo croquettes and beef empanadas. When we bit into our croquettes, we noticed they were NOT chorizo, and upon further investigation they were actually crab. This was definitely concerning, as shellfish is a major allergen and that mistake could seriously harm somebody. They ended up swapping out our dish, but TBH we liked the crab one better :/ The empanadas were great, definitely the best dish of the meal. We also ordered the paella. It was alight, but I probably wouldn't get it agin, as the flavor was a bit off for my preference. I am very observant and for the last 6 months I walked by this place and never even noticed it until about a month ago. I came in after my apt appointment at general and was amazed that such a bright space with a yard was on 24th and I never noticed. The owner was watering plants and gave me a clipping of one of their giant pathos above the entry way. I sat and had a few bites and a glass of wine and was treated so incredibly kind, that it instantly solidified this as a very special place for me to have lunch alone...or bring friends (I don't like crowds and heard they get really busy on the weekends). Unexpected flavors in all the right places. For one reason or another, each of the dishes we ordered surprised and delighted us. The meatballs (albondigas) had a mild smoky flavor that enhanced a normally plain dish. The seafood in the paella was FRESH; the brine/juice of the mussels made that quite evident. The most fun dish was the piquillos (cod stuffed peppers)! The salted cod inside was such a good addition though an acquired taste; we couldn't decide whether the flavor was more reminiscent of Chinese or Scandinavian dishes. I'd been craving paella, and the first place that came to mind was Destapas. I had never tried their paella before, so we decided to go for it--and we absolutely demolished the seafood paella! The flavors were spot on, and the fish, shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels were perfectly cooked and blended beautifully. Of course, I had to order the octopus since it's my favorite, and I always try it when a restaurant offers it. The crispy texture of the octopus paired with the rich, flavorful potatoes was simply decadent--a perfect combination.
