What a delightful space, both bar and restaurant. It's all part of the reimagined Beacon Grand Hotel, previously known as the Sir Francis Drake (pre-pandemic). The restaurant used to be on the ground floor at street level but this location on a mezzanine above the lobby is more appealing and elegant. We came for breakfast and promptly seated. The staff seems a bit non-chalant, but they are on top of it. Service was good. The menu is interesting with some typical (omelets, etc) with some unique items too. It's not extensive but broad enough. The "Green Juice" with spinach, kale, celery and orange juice seemed healthy and weird enough to give it a try and it was absolutely refreshingly delicious. At $9., the same as a glass of orange juice it is well worth trying it. I also had coffee and water. A carafe of coffee was brought to the table for refills. For my breakfast I selected the Shakushka, a unique combination of eggs (sunny side up) with tomato, avacado, feta and toasted baguette. It came in a small skillet and was simply delicious. All the flavors melded beautifully and quite tasty. Overall a very pleasant experience and well worth a visit. I do recommend it. read more

Our server and other staff were always checking on us and readily available. My date and I got drinks and ended up swapping them, which we were totally fine with, but then they seemed to feel bad and gave us 2 more drink on the house! The atmosphere is incredibly comfortable and inviting, making it a great place to unwind after a day of exploring. The bar itself is spacious, with plenty of couches and tables, so it's easy to settle in and relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a quiet drink. The overall vibe was warm, welcoming, and never felt crowded. They even put one of the World Cup matches on for guests, which made the experience even more enjoyable and added to the fun atmosphere. The staff was outstanding, but a special shoutout goes to Anson for making our experience so much fun and truly memorable. Great service like that makes all the difference. Great service at The Post located within the Beacon hotel just up the stairs for the lobby. I had breakfast (around 9:30) and lunch (around 2:30) there. No wait at all during those times. This place has such great decor and art: everywhere you look there's something special. The windows take you back to a different time as well. We came in to celebrate my birthday and our last hoorah as we are expecting twins. Dinner started off rough. I'll start off by saying, we are both service industry vets so we come from an understanding eye and never complain but tonight was BAD. We didn't get greeted or even looked at for over 10 minutes, when our server finally came over we just put all our food in at once to make it easier on him and so we didn't have to wait forever. We ordered the caviar bites, French onion soup, steak frites and the bolognese. Caviar was off, there were onion skins all in the soup, pasta was ok (had to ask for a side of parm from 3 separate people) and steak was the star of the show but was honestly subpar we were just starving. We were going to order desserts but as we were talking about it there was a RAT running through the restaurant. Server and manager just seemed to think it was super funny but for people who are trying to enjoy what was expected as a nice dinner, it was not. This is a solid hotel bar & restaurant. The atmosphere is so cool. Really well decorated, while keeping the old charm of the hotel. So pretty. So much detail in everything, lots to look at. We had drinks here a few times throughout our stay at the Beacon. On Friday night I ordered a drink and the bartender suggested something he felt was even better so I said sure! It was fantastic and he was really nice. Other than that one bartender, we both felt that all the other waitstaff left a little to be desired as the were not super friendly. It was nice that they kind of left you alone and let you enjoy your drinks or food, checking in every once in a while. There were just not really any smiles or a whole lot to make you feel really welcome. It made us wonder if this was because the 20% tip was already included. They weren't as forthcoming about that here as they were at Starlite either. That being said, they were as attentive as you want your wait staff to be, and the drinks and food were great. For entrees, we got the butter poached Maine lobster with citrus ricotta lobster ravioli, butternut squash, and sage, and the cioppino with salmon, mussels, clams, Gulf shrimp, and octopus in their classic red sauce. For sides, we ordered the French fries with their lemon creme fraiche and the grilled asparagus. Finally, we finished off with the espresso panna cotta garnished with cookie crumble and caramel as well as their strawberry cheesecake with shortbread crumble and basil. Such a beautiful place. Food was delicious. And service is absolutely amazing! I came here for weekend afternoon tea. Tea service is $105 per person. The set includes choice of Guinigi brut or rose, choice of tea, two scones, one mini muffin, four tea sandwiches and four mini desserts along with some fruits and accoutrements. I love that for your selection of tea. Your tea expert will roll the cart over and offer in depth information and have you smell all the teas. That way you will find the perfect choice for you! Your food is nicely presented in three tiers with scones on the first, sweets on the second and savory on the top. Food size might not seem huge but I left fullllll. Everything is delicious and there is not a thing I disliked (a very rare occasion as a picky eater). While all bites are delicious I wanna point out a few stand outs. The ube scone is fire! The lobster roll is just chefs kiss. And the watermelon macaron (I didn't know that would work so well?!). The Tea expert/my wonderful server Tessa is so amazing. Her service is above and beyond to make sure I have everything in place. She is observant and comes over to check on me at the perfect moments. I can't say enough good things about the service here. I love the vibes. The decor is elegant and I love the tall ceilings. If you come at the perfect time you might catch live piano performances. The price point is high. But I think it definitely reflects on the quality of food, excellent service and atmosphere. I was compelled to write something about this place because my experience was fantastic. Right when we walked in, my girls and I were first greeted by the sweetest doorman. When we walked up to the hostess, Sokaina, she was so welcoming and happily seated us to our table. When we were seated, Jairzhino was our server and he was AMAZING! He was so accommodating, attentive and intentional with our table. We told them it was our birthdays and they immediately offered champagne! However, I told them I'm not ordering any alcohol. When the Jairzhino brought the champagne, Sokaina brought me apple cider so I wouldn't feel left out and I that truly was the kindest gesture to me! We ordered the fries, house made rolls and caviar bites, and was wonderful! This is the grand beacon hotels in house restaurant and cafe and bar. I got a cocktail at the bar last night -- the vesper -- it was $20 and definitely packed a punch. The gin definitely overpowered the vodka and I couldn't finish it. The ambiance is nice though. Try to grab a table along the side closest to the stairwell, as those seats have plush velvety seating with lots of lumbar support pillows. My server was friendly but it did seem like he was the only one working all the tables so he was stretched a little thin. Also they have long hours -- open 7am to 11pm everyday! It's worth a try since this part of union square is a bit of a food desert late at night. read more

We had another absolutely fantastic dining experience at The Post Room, located inside the beautiful Beacon Grand Hotel. Executive Chef Jose and his entire team truly went above and beyond. The food was outstanding, with first-class presentation and flavors that impressed every guest at our table. We enjoyed a four-course dinner, and each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully executed. The cocktails were perfectly crafted, and even the mocktails were exceptional, which our group really appreciated. Hosting a large group can be challenging, but the staff handled it effortlessly--attentive, professional, and warm throughout the entire evening. The ambiance was elegant yet inviting, fitting our celebration perfectly. After dinner, we continued the night upstairs at the iconic Starlite Lounge, which was the perfect way to end the evening. Disgusting!! Went to celebrate my wife's birthday dinner and last night out before our excepted twin girls and this was terrible. Immediate bad vibes when we walked up to the host stand. The GM asked if we were eating or drinking and when we said eating he was surprised we wanted to eat there. Took 15 minutes for our server to greet us so we put everything in at once to make it easy on everyone. We got the caviar bites, which were good, the French onion soup, which had onion skins throughout, the steak frites, which was good, and the bolognese, which the pasta was all stuck together. As we're finishing up a rat runs through the dinning room. While the manager is dealing with the situation the server and bartenders are laughing as if it's a normal thing. My friend ordered a chicken Caesar salad, without meat $18 with meat they added $12. I thought it was overpriced as it was a small appetizer salad. I ordered a medium cooked burger, this was close to $30. The burger was perfect to me. Flavorful, delish and a nice size. The fries were flavorful but could be a little more crunchy. Located inside the Beacon Grand hotel (which we loved), this restaurant/bar was very nice, inviting and showed potential. There were four of us for breakfast, two adults, two kids (9 & 10). We had an odd interaction with staff when we were trying to be seated. He wanted to seat us in the section only for those using cards for breakfast included with our stay. I informed him that we weren't sure if we wanted to order from the card and wanted to be seated for coffee while we waited on our 4th party member and review the menu. He hesitantly sat us. I ordered a cafe latte- beautiful. It was fantastic. Our 4th party showed up and we proceeded to order. The food was fantastic. However, the service wrecked the whole experience. We sat unattended for quite some time. Our meals came and while we ate, we noticed several other parties (adults) come and go with ease. People were tended to, received their checks, and went about their way. One lady requested Bailey's in her coffee but was told she cannot have that - she stated she'd had the same order just one week prior. Not sure what that was about. When we had been sitting, not eating, not drinking, and looking about.... No one checked on us. I had to turn around and awkwardly stare down a different waiter to be addressed and receive our check. $125 for 4 people's breakfast and an awful experience. Fine but not worth the cost of something that I think should be complimentary. I ordered mushroom risotto. It was tasty, but runny. Semi-unappealing. The burger and fries my husband ordered were fine. No complaints! So the food was okay. The service was very friendly , but slow. We sat for a food 20 minutes after the meal was cleared away and didn't see the server again. We had to flag her to get the check. Based on previous reviews I expected a speak- easy vibe. Not the case. It was so loud I had to keep asking my husband to repeat what he was saying because I couldn't hear him over the sound of a mediocre piano player/singer. Christmas brunch was horrific. Salomon the manager was unhelpful in letting us sit in a larger table explaining we were a party of 2 and a 4 top was held for many reservations. Throughout our time there and after we were leaving numerous 4 top were unused. We asked our waiter Willian to please send the food out in courses which he agreed he could do. Apps, salads, started out that way but the mains all came together. William apologized and explained he asked for the mains to come in courses but the kitchen ignored the request. I had asked a busboy for a side of clamto or tomato juice and he told me to ask the server. I then went to the bar and asked for clamato or tomato juice to have one of 2 managers present say they didn't have clamato juice. I had asked for tomato juice instead from both managers only to be ignored. Finally William came to our table and was able to bring the requested juice. Why would a guest have to ask for a side of juice from 4 people including 2 managers only to be ignored? On to the food. The duck salad had 2 shreds of duck. The sole, prime rib, ham and veggies were all cold. The truffle potatoes had ZERO truffle flavor or aroma and were the consistency of a soup. The desserts were uninspired, dry and just sad. This was an abysmal experience with a feeling of disregard from the manager Solomon from the beginning. William was the only person to seem interested in us having a good experience. I love espresson Martini's and I have to say they make one of the best I have ever had. It is unique and not a standard Espresso martini which makes it even more special.
