A what should have been a pleasant catch-up with a close one visiting from NYC turned into a poor experience at La Mar. I suggested a few places by the Embarcadero to meet up. We decided on La Mar. I had been many years ago and remember it being good. Only the bar area is open from 3-5 during the weekdays. Service started fine with our server being attentive and quick. They even came around right before 5 and asked us if we wanted another round of drinks before happy hour ended. We both decided to get a glass of wine. About 10-15 minutes later, we were still on our first drinks when the server came back and told us we needed to close out and leave. I was surprised by this sudden interruption so I asked for clarification. I thought maybe they were changing shifts so we just needed to close out. They said no, we needed to close out and leave because they need the table back. I again asked for more details. I explained we still had our wines we hadn't touched, the bar was more than half empty and they should have told us when we sat down if there was a time limit with the table. At that point, they didn't know what to say so I asked for a manager. At first no one came back except the server who still insisted we pay. So I reluctantly told them i will close out our bill but we'd like to finish our wine before leaving. They then said that was fine, we could stay. A few minutes later another person came to our table and apologized for the miscommunication. They said something about getting us mixed up with another table who had a reservation for dinner there, then told us we can stay as long as we'd like as long as they got the table back for a 6:15 reservation. I'm not sure how the mix-up occurred but what a poor way to end an otherwise solid experience. Drinks and the ceviche we had were all delicious.

Gave La Mar a second chance as last time the food was really good but the service left lots to be desired. This time we were a party of 4 and were celebrating a birthday which they acknowledged and thoughtfully wished happy birthday to our celebrated guest. This time I ordered the ceviche limeño, which was a mix of shrimp, white fish, octopus and calamari served with crunchy corn, soft corn and sweet potato marinated in a delicious sauce with a hint of spice (the base tasted similar to leche de Tigre) Other guests in my party ordered the whole roasted cauliflower with eggplant puree, and the rice with shrimp. Both were delicious. I tried two new alcohol-free drinks: guayaba healer (guava, lime and tajin) and the red October. Both were tasty, however for non alcoholic drinks $12 is a little steep, particularly for the red October which is served in a fluted cup and has a lot less volume than the other non-alcoholic drinks. We ordered two desserts, both were excellent: the suspiro loco with cotton candy and Dulce de leche, strawberries and crumbled graham cracker-like cookies, was crazy and fun, yet well balanced. The second dessert was the tapioca tropical, which is a tapioca pudding with toasted coconut, raspberry and ice cream, which was not too sweet and quite delicious. We got a complimentary coconut tres leches for the birthday guest, which was also delectable. As for the service, it was definitely improved compared to last time, yet not seamless. We were sitting inside this time and had a bigger party. Our waitress was very friendly, however one of the items we ordered never arrived and I had to point it out to them when the check arrived. She apologized and they took it off right away. One of the hosts came to check in on us a couple of times throughout the meal which was much appreciated. Our water glasses were kept full, however it still seems they are understaffed. If I could give half stars they would get 3 1/2 but since the food has been consistently good I guess 4 starts will do for now.

I just had a really nice lunch at this restaurant. The salmon dish was simply delightful. The service was very friendly and attentive to all of my wishes. My waiter was very kind to ask for if I had food allergies or food restrictions. I give this place a thumbs up for exceptional service. The ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant too. 5 stars !

Seafood heaven! My colleagues and I had a lovely dinner here on a Wednesday evening. Our waiter was Carlos who was awesome and great at providing recommendations. I ordered the butterfly pea mocktail which we refreshing abd I loved the colors. It contains: seedlip garden, butterfly pea & ginger cool water lime, agave, ginger beer mint. We ordered some appetizers which included: Limena Causas, Vegana Causas, Yucas, Fried Potatoes, & Plantain Chips. For our main they ordered 2 Lomo Saltado's for the table. Unfortunately I wasn't able to partake due to my gluten allergy so I ordered a special option on the specials menu...scallop cerviche which was decadent. I've never seen scallops as an option for cerviche and it did not disappoint. Other than squeezing the 4 of us on one side of the table which should've only had about 3 of us especially since I was between 2 guys. The food is fresh and delish. It's expensive but worth it if you love seafood! Yum.

Been here on 2 different occasions and loved both! Food: 10/10. Super fresh fish. Every dish had its own unique flavor. No notes Service: staff is always friendly and service is responsive. If you do the whole fish experience, budget more time as they do space out the courses Ambiance: sat on the outside patio deck and it was lovely. Great waterfront view Would recommend trying the whole fish experience! 7 different dishes all from one fish

Beautiful location at the Embarcadero. Great service with friendly and attentive staff. Plates were overturned at almost each dish so we had fresh plates. For the price point, I was expecting perfection with the food. Some items were fantastic but the main dish, the grilled whole fish was a bit disappointing. It seemed quite dry like it was overcooked. What we got: Cebiche (Clasico): Catch of the Day, classic leche de tiare red onion, habanero, corn, sweet potatoes $32. 5/5, the deep fried crab was phenomenal! Causas (California): Dungeness crab, purple potatoes, avocado quail egg, creamy aji amarillo sauce $36. Beautiful dish and well prepared purple potato, but wasn't that memorable for us. Sides (Yuca fries): Yuca Fritas $9. Can't go wrong with yuca fries Empanadas (Tasting): $34 with four empanadas including Mushroom, Corn, Beef and Chicken. The beef and the corn were good. Grilled Fish (MP $100+) w/ Quinoa Fried Rice: the Quinoa was the best part of this dish. Overall, La Mar has very spacious seating and great for large and small groups. They have the WOW factor for both indoor and outdoor seating.

The food and presentation were on point. Every dish was delicious and full of flavor. I especially loved the crab tacos and the leche de tigre. The complimentary chips were a great touch and paired really well with the dip. Also, the waterfront view was beautiful and really added to the experience.

Came here for a private group dinner. The space was nice and ready for us on time. Food came out timely and service was friendly and attentive. We tried the empanadas, quinoa caprese, and ceviche for starters. All were so delicious, well balanced and seasoned, and so fresh. For mains we had the chicken, lomo saltado, and salmon. The proteins were all tender and juicy, and flavorful. Portions were great to try it all family style. Then dessert was a tres leche cake. It was good texture and not too soggy or sweet. Everything was excellent and can't wait to come back again.

A friend and I were getting together for a meal and decided to go to La Mar. I've been here countless times over the years, but my friend had never been. He easily made a rezzie a few weeks prior. I enjoyed the cocktails. Especially their play on the pisco sour. Food wise, the cebiche tasting was a good way to sample a few of their items. It came with the quemado / salmon, nikkei / ahi tuna, and victoriano / halibut. The pulpo had a nice smoke and was tender. I adored the el achupado - bucatini noodles, scallops, octopus, shrimp, chupe sauce, dungeness crab, huacatay sauce. It was so creamy and comforting. I didn't try the lomo or the empanada, but my friend seemed to enjoy them. Service was great. Our server was sweet, friendly, and attentive. Vibe is very much loud music, dim, bustling, etc. But we could still have a convo while enjoying our meal. Tho with my old eyes, I found it hard to read the menu. Had to use the flashlight on my phone. I've always enjoyed coming here. Tho a lil pricey, it's a nice space with good cocktails and cebiche. Glad I discovered the pasta this time. REVIEW #3987

La Mar really blew me out of the water! The service was incredibly friendly and consistent (in spite of multiple private events going on throughout our service - shout out to Luis(?)) This was the restaurant week, but I ended up getting a la carte menu items. I started strong with the nigiri sampler. Peruvian flare mixed with Japanese technique makes for uniquely delicious bites. I really loved the kanpachi with aji and salmon nigiri! The arroz norteño was an interesting dish with a seared duck breast and clams/scallops. All proteins were cooked perfectly, but the rice was sort of a weird mushy mass. The dish had an overall great flavor, I just am not sure what the arroz part is going for. I really appreciate that the server gave me a free dessert, since I didn't order anything while my friends did (saying it's sad to skip dessert). This was our favorite restaurant week meal for 2026!

Came here at Pier SF and it absolutely delivered. We started with the empanada sampler (corn, beef, mushroom, and chicken) and every single one was on point. The flavors are subtle but really well balanced. The corn empanada especially stood out--slightly sweet, soft inside, and honestly something I haven't experienced quite like this anywhere else. The croqueta chifa was another highlight. Super crispy on the outside with perfectly cooked, succulent shrimp inside. That contrast of texture with the rich, savory filling just works so well. Great food, thoughtful flavors, and a setting that makes the whole experience feel special. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

    Third course:
Churrasco Marino (grilled Alaskan halibut with black rice)

Booked a table for 4 at La Mar SF for my mom's birthday on a Friday, and we didn't realize it was the first day of SF restaurant week!! Of course we opted for their $90 prix fixe menu. From the start, the service really stood out. The servers and host were incredibly accommodating and attentive, and we always felt taken care of without it being overbearing. The meal started with complimentary potato chips and a green sauce that I'm still thinking about. Definitely not your typical chips because these were super addictive! First course (9/10): - Cebiche Clasico - Tiradito Laqueado (torched ahi tuna) - Causa California (Dungeness crab) Such a light way to start the meal. The torched ahi tuna was actually my favorite dish of the whole night. Second course (10/10): - Pulpo Anticuchero (grilled Spanish octopus) - Conchas Pachicay (grilled diver scallop) The best course. Everything was warm, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Even my parents (who can be a bit picky) loved everything here, which is so rare. Third course (7.5/10): - Churrasco Marino (grilled Alaskan halibut with black rice) Honestly I was a bit disappointed on this one. Though I liked the fish because you can tell it was cooked right before it got on the plate, grilled to perfection. But we didn't like the black rice pairing. I'm not a big fan of beans and that's what the black rice felt like. Dessert (9/10): - Suspiro Loco (vanilla ice cream, almond crumble, strawberry, housemade cotton candy) Loved this dessert! It was not overly sweet, and the almond crumble added a great texture. Our tongues turned blue with the cotton candy though. Since we were celebrating my mom's birthday, they also brought out a complimentary tres leches cake! So yum 8/10 Overall great experience! I always try to find a place that would fit my parents palette and this place did exactly that :)

Delicious, service was outstanding, ambience on the SF Pier was a vibe. Expensive but you can't go wrong g with the food here from the drinks to dessert amazing Peruvian food. Ceviche is a must and lots of it! Tres leches cake with coconut it fantastic. And everything between. My fav empanada in order was the corn, beef, chicken then mushroom. Almost no parking. A must to public transportation, Lyft/uber or walk.

Much more flavor than merely lime as the sauce. Also, good variety different seafood like clams, mussels, calamari and fish. Plus corn bits and some sweet potato. Really jam packed with deliciousness. Chicharron de Pollo: Thin and crispy, it seemed like there was skin attached to the deep fried chicken, giving it an extra crunchy. Nice creamy sauce. And the pickled onions added a good tang. Lomo Saltado: One of my favorite dishes, so had to order it here. The flavors were on point with a generous amount of that sauce. The equally balanced forkfuls with steak, onion, tomatoes and fries were divine. Unfortunately, they were a bit skimpy on the beef since the balanced forkfuls ended quickly and then there were a lot of fry heavy bites. It looked meaty when it first arrived, but I think the trick is that all the meat was on top, nothing mixed in. Aji de Gallina: Shredded chicken in a light yellow sauce. Though it tasted little bland. Like not creamy enough and not spicy enough. It was still decent, but could have been better. Picarones: Maybe the best thing I ordered. The doughnuts were made fresh to order, still warm and a little gooey. And that sticky sweet sauce with subtle spices were amazing. I did extra rounds on the plate to ensure I could soak up as a much as possible with each doughnut bite.

I also tried the plantains which were cooked perfectly; not too mushy with a perfect char, and the sweet onions on top were also tasty. Paired with a very tangy dipping sauce. All the flavors came together well. My husband ordered the Cantina burger which he enjoyed down to the last bite. Our daughter also sampled off the smaller menu with Lomo Empanadas and the Chicharron de Pollo which she reported were both very nicely prepared. Will, our server gave us excellent recommendations which we availed ourselves of. The bill for 4 items plus the burger, a side of rice, and a ginger beer came to just under seventy dollars, which was a reasonable price. I would definitely give the food five stars, and the restaurant four as it's a long and lengthy bar with a few tables for two. The majority of the seating is in the back with two flat screens and an open kitchen. I can imagine how loud this place can get. We went at the perfect time: not a lot of customers so we received excellent individualized service from Will. I would hope to be able to return next time we visit GG Park and sample some more menu items like the Peruvian Paella which sounded very promising.

Food was amazing, service was great! We ordered the chicha morada, lomo saltado de filet mignon,…read morechaufa de pollo, fried plantains, and Jalea. All came out hot and fresh, and everything was delicious

Fish ceviche * very generous portions of white fish…read more* pleasant balance of acidity and spice * Peruvian chips provide a nice crunch, but I wish there was more crunchy elements to break up the tender texture of the fish Pollada A traditional Peruvian chicken dish. My first time ordering it and I will look for it next time I'm at a Peruvian restaurant * chicken is well prepared, almost all the meat has been skillfully separated from the bone and flattened, resulting in a crispy & well-coated chicken that can be eaten almost without utensils. * while the chicken is well prepared, coated, and cooked, I wish it had either more spices or was paired with a sauce for some extra moisture & flavor diversity. * The boiled potato really exceeded my expectation. It's so 'potato', as a potato lover I appreciate how minimally processed it is. It's not mashed or mixed with flavorings, it's really just a perfectly cooked potato with a drizzle of sauce. I don't think the potato will blow anyone's socks off but I really liked it :) Service is very friendly, it's giving family owned vibes. The interior is festive with lots of Peruvian decorations and there's a cute faux grass welcoming mat outside to set the mood. Overall I recommend this place! I think it's a great spot especially because there's plentiful parking and nothing compatible in the immediate surrounds.
