It's cozy and colorful inside, the decor is fun and bright! They have a happy hour from 3-6pm too with a small discounts on some cocktails and small dishes. I ordered the TriFungo - Puerto Rican Mash and it was amazing! The mofongo is made of mashed green plantains, sweet plantains, yuca, and garlic and onion. It was so flavorful and delicious! The vibe of this place is the best. I visited during Friday lunchtime and it wasn't crazy at all. Our party of 3 sat down almost instantly and was helped with great customer service. I've been here a handful of times, now and everything constantly tastes the same- DELICIOUS AND FLAVORFUL! I got the Pollo Salad, and since it's not broken- why change it up. I'm not one to PICK a salad for dinner, but the way they make, prepare and present their Pollo Salad- is perfect! I love the freshness of the tomatoes , and crunch of the leafy greens mixture with the pickled onions on top and fresh avocado and 2 huge chicken breast pieces with A LOT of sautéed onions and I think I'm missing another topping, but it's ALL DELICIOUS! The sever was sweet and helpful, since I have allergies with MSG, and luckily there's not anything on this grilled chicken salad. The food was fresh and made rather quickly and I love the lively music as well as all the artwork within their establishment. They also have an outside sitting area, too. Tonight I tried the chincharrones de pollo. The breading was too thick for my liking. The crust was crispy but kept eating chunks of breading. I wish there was regular chincharron on the menu also. So once I saw the Puerto Rican flag I went straight in. Cute spot, super clean. Service was good. But the food? I'm sorry but I've never tasted such bland rice in my life.. The pernil should have been cook a little bit more. I'm Puerto Rican and I don't like to see pink in a pernil that typically should be a bit crunchy. They need to use some real Puerto Rican sazón on EVERYTHING, needing to add salt to authentic Puerto Rican food is a huge NO!! Not impressed at all especially for what they charge. read more

By the Port Hairs Have you ever watched a cooking show and seen something that made you crave a certain food? It happens to us all the time, but luckily for us, most food cravings are easily satiated in the Bay Area. Except, unfortunately, we were watching a show where they were preparing underrepresented Puerto Rican food--specifically mofongo!--and a cursory search of the Yelps turned up nothing in the South Bay. Fortunately, I was able to turn to a trusted Yelp friend who steered me here to Parada 22 (P22) up in The City. P22 has been in business for nearly 15 years and also owns two Cuban sister Cuban restaurants, Cha Cha Cha, and two Mexican restaurants, Papitos. The Good: *Dog-friendly outdoor dining *Friendly service *Location is within easy waking distance of Golden Gate Park *Local beers, as well as macrobrews and fermented grapes. *Good entertainment if you sit outside from one of the local street artists. *Reasonable prices--especially for SF *Yucca Fries were hot and crispy, and the creamy cilantro-garlic sauce was fantastic, but we could've definitely used more as the tiny thimble didn't last long. *Yellow rice was so good and reminded me of this "Mexican Rice" my mom used to make. *Maduros (Fried Plantains) were fried up fantasticly and had a nice caramelization to go with the sweetness. I could eat a literal bucket of these. *Mofongo hit the spot and satisfied my craving. The concomitant shrimp were cooked and seasoned well. The Meh: *Pernil Asado (pork shoulder) was underseasoned and just lacked a lot of flavor. Fortunately, their house orange hot sauce was able to help. The Ugly: *Parking can be challenging anywhere in SF, but this area, in particular, seemed extra daunting. Visited Parada 22 when in town for a work event, and it easily became one of my favorite restaurants in SF. I ordered the Pollo Encebollado and the Tostones. Everything was incredibly flavorful and the tostones had the perfect crunch. The portions were generous so I had plenty of leftovers as well. Now on to the restaurant in itself...it's beautifully decorated and filled with such history and great music. We ordered two plates of mofongo de pernil, camarones a la criolla and a plate of chicharron de pollo. It was so good! The pernil was doused in a creamy sauce, the rice and the beans were so flavorful and their maduro frito was ripe and sweet.
