Came here with friends to get some pre-hike fuel and the food was decent. The vibe was nice on this sunny Saturday. It was quite busy but they moved efficiently. There is very little seating so we ended up eating on the hood of the car lol. I would recommend taking the food to your destination and having a picnic, but car hood works when in a pinch! I ordered the Niño Pobre sandwich because I needed to know what plantain-fried shrimp tasted like. I honestly wasn't in love at all. There were only 4 pieces of shrimp. They were large to be fair, but from what's supposed to be a Puerto Rican Po' Boy, I expected a lot more shrimp. I also didn't notice a big difference with it being plantain-fried. I think I was hoping for it being wrapped in literal plantain flesh or having some of that natural plantain sweetness, but it was pretty plain. I also added pickled onions on staff recommendation and it made things way too acidic. I love a pickle, but not a pickle sandwich... I'll say it was a fair size for the price. My friends got a mix of sandwiches and plates and everyone rated in the 4-star range. I think we probably just need to find the right dishes! They have an extensive menu so I'm sure there are some gems at this spot.

I love PR food! The chicken was super juicy and flavorful. I was a bit disappointed with the bistec, it was a bit dry. BUT the mariquitas were amazing and so were the tostones! and we had to order an additional pink mayo because we used it for everything!!! I also got some frozen pasteles from their takeaway shop next door. Can't wait to eat those!

After a long hike in Mt. Tam, we stopped by the popular Sol Food in Mill Valley for the first time! And I don't know if it was because of the 8-mile hike I just finished or what, but the food absolutely hit the spot! First of all, we came during an off-hour, around 3:30pm, and there was still a line to order at the counter. They provided complementary ice water from a dispenser outside with cups, which was really nice. Once we placed our orders, we stood outside with everyone else as the indoor area is pretty small with only limited counter seating at the window. We waited about 5 minutes to order and another 10-15 for our food. Most people set up camp on the tailgates of their cars in the parking lot, so we did the same. Pro tip: some people brought camping chairs and coolers to make it into a real tailgate, which I thought was really cool. - Pollo al horno: ordered the Large plate which came with generous portion of chicken, white rice, choice of fried garlic plantain or sweet plantain (or one of each), side of beans (choice of black or pink), and a side salad. Chicken was marinated very nicely and wasn't too dry. - Bistec encebollado: ordered the Large plate also which came with the same as above. Steak was cooked well and surprisingly tender enough to cut easily. Both plantains were good but I really liked the garlic one because it was different than the sweet plantains I'm used to. The Large plate portion sizes were huge! Although the price did reflect this, I think it was still worth for the amount of food given.

What can I say about this place, amazing food, friendly staff, it is more of a takeout vibe in MV. When I'm in a mood for Sol Food, it's always takeout for me. It's worth the visit if you are in Marin.

I recently tried the San Rafael location and loved it. And when I was in Mill Valley today, I knew I had to stop by! Parking was super easy. I was here at like 11am on a Saturday and the lot was kind of empty when I arrived and started filling up when I left. If you haven't been before, grab a menu before entering, right by the entrance, and order at the counter. This location is small and is more for takeout. There is a little seating area with about 6 seats and a water station located on the outside. They will ask if you need utensils and it'll come with a fork, a knife, napkins, ketchup, and house sauce. I ordered the bistec combo plate. Food came out pretty quick and I ended up taking it the library and eating it there with my friends. I thought the food was delicious. I don't know if it's the way they plate it at the San Rafael location but the portion looks a little bit bigger there. Like they gave me a LOT of onions at that location. This location didn't give as much but it was still delicious. Salad came with a vinaigrette. House sauce was good. Will definitely be stopping by again!

came on a sunday evening around 5pm. it was packed with doordash drivers, to-go customers, and people dining in. service was good: staff was attentive to facilitate pick-up process/ordering for those who walked in and a worker also came to wipe down our table before we sat. i appreciated that they also checked up on our order # and apologized for the wait, though they did forget to include a set of utensils my main point of frustration was the lack of standing room to wait and amount of seating. unfortunately there are only 6 bar-style seats along the window. if we didn't manage to snag a seat we would have had to eat in the car. a majority of the empty space was dedicated to the pick-up and staff standing space. i understand the importance of ample room in a workplace but with how busy this place is, it seems very inefficient and frustrating to have limited seats for customers. the bistec embollado was a 6.5/10 i was afraid of the steak being dry and tough, but was cooked perfectly with the right amount of chew. i loved the caramelized onions, they pair with the steak so well (reminds me of filipino bistek). the plantains were cooked in a form i didn't expect, like a fried pancake. the red vinegar sauce (although a bit spicy for me) was able to cuts through the dense carb-iness. the the black beans are solid, seasoned well. all together the dish did get a bit salty and heavy, especially over time. i would come back to try the other combo plates, probably before the lunch rush or pepared to eat somewhere else

I didn't realize this was a take out restaurant only.. there were some seats at the window but not enough for a small group. An employee took my order and then called out my number when it was ready. I had the tripleta with fries and the sandwich was so good. A good amount of meat and the pink sauce with the lettuce and tomatoes complemented so well. The fries were ok, but probably wouldnt be good reheated. They accidentally gave me salad dressing. The fried plantains were not bad. I would try it again, but be prepared to eat it in your car or have a picnic blanket ready in your car to sit outside and eat.

I got the Sandwich de Pollo and it was possibly the best sandwich I ever had. Workers there are super friendly but I'm ngl there's not a lot of space to sit so keep that in mind if you're going there with a lot of people.

This is a takeout only location with a large parking lot. They do have a few counter seats to eat at if you're able to grab them. My favorite was the bistec sandwich! It comes with a slice of steak (if you get the large it has two slices). I also liked the vinegar sauce for the combination meal along with the black beans. The standout surprise was the ponche which is a mango iced tea with limeade drink. I would say the chicken was just okay as well as the chuleton sandwich.

First don't plan on eating here as there's only 7 barstools and they're first come first serve. We happened to get lucky with our party of five but wouldn't count on that happening again. Haven't been to this place since I visited their San Rafael location 20 years ago so it's essentially a first time haha. We ordered the bistec sandwich, pollo el horno combination, side of black beans, side of pink beans, side of fries and a pollo el horno a la mode (I wanted to try the steak and the chicken). I preferred the black beans to the pink, I like that they use potatoes with their black beans - unexpected surprise, I love potatoes The bistec sandwich was filling and very tasty. It comes with steak, grilled onions, avocado and it's pressed like a panini. Recommend their cilantro lime mayo to use on the sandwich for an amazing experience. The pollo el horno is their other super popular plate. The chicken is really well cooked (slightly under-seasoned to my liking), their rice was good. Their fries were great, actual potatoes freshly cut and fried (again potatoes are my favorite) All in all I would say the flavor and consistency has not wavered much since my visit to their sister location in San Rafael 15/20 years ago. A bit on the pricy side, but worth it once in a while. 8/10

I came around 5:50PM on a Sunday night and had to wait about 10 minutes, but by the time I left around 6:30PM, the line was out the door and then some. Definitely get here early, and parking shouldn't be too hard with a lot nearby and free street parking. This spot is pretty casual, as in you order at the counter before grabbing a number and sitting at a table. As opposed to a food hall, you get directed where you sit before ordering, and sometimes end up sharing a table with another party, especially in my case when you have a party of 2. Service was attentive and food came out at a decent pace, though they did not come all together. I ordered a large Bistec Sandwich and a Pasteles Special. The Bistec sandwich is a must order, and I recommend ordering the sandwich over the plate due to how fragrant the bread was. Pictures might not look like much, but the bread was sooo good and crispy, and they give a good balance of meat, avocado and veggies. It can be a little heavy, but a large sandwich was perfect for my wife and I to share along with another plate. The Pastales was alright - the rice is pretty unique if you're looking for new flavors, but the pork was a little stinky and dry. The hot sauce on the table is really good and managed to mitigate that, and it's not as spicy as you'd think given the color and smell. The banana leaf in the tamale made it really fragrant with a unique taste, and the lemon sauce on the salad balanced the entire plate out. For a party of 2, I recommend ordering the Bistec Sandwich in large size (since I believe the regular price only gives you half) and another plate. I also recommend using the toast tab (online order) to look at the menu over their actual menu; the UI of it makes it hard to choose what to order and the toast menu has pictures next to the menu item. Given that Marin food options can be quite expensive or fancy, this place is the perfect place to go for a unique food spot, especially if you're coming from SF.

We also discussed his upbringing in NYC and his long history in the Bay Area's challenging culinary scene. This conversation happened before I had the opportunity to taste the succulent Puerto Rican dishes on his menu. Chef Erick is a truly humble and professional culinary artist. He lets his cooking do the talking, allowing his ingredients and timely combinations to showcase his superb culinary skills. From our conversation, I learned that he genuinely cares about the quality of his ingredients. While we talked about his experiences cooking for all kinds of tables in the Bay Area, from VIPs and celebrities to daily blue-collar San Franciscans seeking standout meals, Chef Erick answered at least five phone calls. He diligently coordinated with his local suppliers to ensure he, and in turn his customers, would have access to nothing but the best ingredients during the upcoming weekend rush. Most Puerto Ricans, including those adopted (see Chef Anthony Bourdain's memoirs), know a Puerto Rican restaurant is truly judged by the quality and flavor of its Pernil. Without hesitation, he prepared for me--someone born and raised in Puerto Rico--his masterfully concocted pernil with arroz con gandules and a side of maduros fritos. The sauce it came with aka crack sauce, was SO good. I ended up grabbing a couple to take home because it went well with pretty much everything. Just beware that they charge an extra $1 per sauce. The plantain fries were good, but I wish they were a little crispier. The bistek plate, however, was probably a 3/5 for me. It lacked flavor and just wasn't anything particularly special. We ended up using the crack sauce to give it more flavor. The chicken empanadas were also pretty bland. Overall, the restaurant has a loud, lively atmosphere and the experience was alright. The food was absolutely amazing as always, authentic flavors that instantly take us back to the island, but the kindness and service meant even more to us. We'll always support Boriqua Kitchen. Truly the best Puerto Rican food in the Bay Area, served by people who treat you like family.

Roberto Clemente - yes 100% Ok we actually tried multiple things from the menu and quite literally everything was friggin delicious. I will say, come hungry, come ready for some fried food and enjoy. Talk to Anthony and find out what he's bringing to your belly - he'll guide you the way. I get excited every time I see the truck in our hood. Go, thank me later.

I was in search of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine for a special birthday lunch at work for 15 people. I thought maybe we could try one or two dishes but the menu she put together was amazing! We had a delicious rice dish with pork belly, Pernil, fried chicken that was hands down the best fried chicken! Clearly made from the heart! The beans were like nothing I've had before, plantains and the beef empanada were cooked to perfection. Her mamagotchu sauce was a favorites by all, a fun savory condiment that complimented everything dish. Rochelle's communication from the beginning was dialed in and she responded within the day to my text and email inquiry. She met us at our budget with generous portions and every dish had so much flavor. She delivered the food with her warm bubbly personality and I'm so grateful we found her through Yelp. If you want a delicious, catered event with food that folks will be talking about for days after, call on Mama Roc! I will definitely be on the lookout for any events she will be at locally.

Signs are bilingual--mostly Latin patrons, which is my usual litmus test that usually means the food has authentic flavor, which I love and look for from ethnic dining experiences.
