The food was delicious, but the portions were a bit smaller than I remembered. The crab puffs were tasty, but soo very small, definitely wanted more. The satay was super good, but again, left us wanting more. Only 1 small skewer of beef and chicken. The garlic noodles were good, but a tad bit dryer than I'd like. Whether you're ordering the dumplings, garlic noodles, or crab, all the dishes are made with attention to detail and taste good. The Bo Kho dumplings were beautifully presented and tasted like Bo Kho. Probably my favorite thing I ate during the night! However, both Bo Kho and dumplings individually are not expensive items. So to put a $25 price tag for only 4 dumplings, it definitely feels a bit hard to justify getting it again for the price. That theme felt pretty much the same throughout the night. All of the dishes were decent and were presented nicely, but nothing I tasted made me go "wow, I need more of this". Crab was fresh, but nothing amazing was done to it that a fresh crab from another restaurant could not emulate. Decided to take my sister here for her birthday. The inside of the restaurant is pretty big with modern decorations. The service was pretty good, our waitress was friendly. Here's what we ordered. Bo Kho Wagyu Dumplings: Get it, it's packed with flavors and tasted so good. Shrimp & lobster dumplings: This was so-so it didn't really stand out, didn't taste much of the lobster. Felt like I was eating a normal hargow. Salt & Pepper Calamari: Fried to perfection, salt and pepper taste was definitely there. Would get it again. I came here for dinner with my friend and had a great experience overall. We shared the following dishes: AN's Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab (MP - which, for us, was $88 - plus an additional $10 to have it served out of the shell), AN's Famous Garlic Noodles ($16), Truffle Hamachi ($24), and Signature Crab Puffs ($18). We also ordered a few drinks (I tried the Jackfruit Punch and the Strawberry Fields; $18 each). The Roasted Crab and Garlic Noodles were my favorites - very flavorful and buttery without feeling too oily. I would definitely order those again, even with the steep prices. The Truffle Hamachi was good but not particularly unique, and the Signature Crab Puffs were my least favorite (they tasted like crab rangoons, which I'm not a fan of). Let's discuss Crustacean's. First of all, let me start off by saying that I have frequented Crustacean's for over 20 years, and have never had a subpar experience. They have been my family's go-to restaurant for many of our celebratory events, and we love their food and service. With that said, I am very aware that businesses need to evolve and make augments to the way that things have always been done; however, the hubs and I frequented Crustacean's recently at their new location, and I must say that we were substantially underwhelmed. Although they had a new fancy establishment, something was lost in translation. There was something about the nostalgia of the older building. Yes, it certainly needed work, but the food was always great. As for our recent visit, the food was not as good, nor was the service, and the ambiance totally lacked the family feeling that once brought so much warmth and comfort. I was excited to try the famous crab garlic noodles at Crustacean after hearing the hype around the original Thanh Long and stopped by this Fidi location for a nice lunch with a friend. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and the ambiance really made it feel like an elevated lunch location. Between the 2 of us we got the Roasted Dungeness Crab with garlic noodles on the side and the Chrysanthemum Gem salad to share. First starting off with the salad, it was a solid caesar salad and the large pieces of rice crackers on top were fun to break apart and eat with the salad itself. The star of course was suppose to be the crab cracked out of shell and the famous garlic noodles. I really wanted to love this but I actually thought it lacked flavor and while the crab was coated with garlic butter, it was dry in some parts and the garlic didn't shine. Same with the noodles which were on the heavier side with garlic butter but felt kind of gummy to me. I really wanted to enjoy this more but the combo just felt like too much without providing enough flavor and for the price there are better Asian restaurants in the city which serve fresh crab. One of the managers shared something special with us: a sample of macerated kumquat peel that he personally prepares by hand. He peels the fruit himself to extract the juice, which becomes part of a unique specialty cocktail created for Lunar New Year 2026. It felt like getting a behind-the-scenes taste of the craft. The drink itself was incredibly refreshing--almost light enough to feel borderline healthy. We started with green mussels served on slightly toasted sourdough rounds that tasted as though they'd been lovingly dipped in butter. Absolutely delicious. The calamari was decent--though I'm notoriously picky about calamari. The batter was wonderfully crunchy, but the meat leaned a little rubbery for my taste. The chicken rolls had one of the best fillings I've ever had--savory, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The only thing I wished for was a bit more crunch in the wrapper; I love a crispy roll and this one was slightly on the softer side. Ironically, I arrived not very hungry. But by the time we were leaving, the woman dining near us was devouring her dish with such enthusiasm that we had to ask what it was. As for dishes, we did family style and had the bo kho dumplings (delicious), fried calamari (nothing special but still good), roasted cauliflower and Brussels (sweet and roasted), garlic crab with no shell (must order), garlic noodles (must order), shaken beef (also delicious), and seafood fried rice (basic but good). I have always gone to the sister location near the beach since I was a kid. Growing up, my mom whenever we wanted to do a splurge or celebration, once maybe very rarely twice a year, we would go to Thang Long. I've always heard about the family restaurants. My other family members would go to crustaceans quite often. They were in a higher tax bracket than us so I've always heard about crustaceans but never been. Recently my extended family was in town and I wanted to just thank them for all the support they've given me throughout my entire life, and I had them meet me at crustaceans and holy moly. I probably won't ever do that again. The cost was beyond $$$$ and this is exactly why I stick to the Red Robin's I am use to. Don't get me wrong, I live very comfortably, but under my means and this was definitely a shock to my system. Happy to do it and quite honestly the food was delicious. Was it $100/head delicious? No. The drunken crab garlic noodles drinks and everything was top-tier. The portion size of these staple dishes has drastically reduced. I'm not mad at it because I didn't leave there completely stuffed. Just was a little disappointed when hours later I was hungry again. We ordered the crab and it was a bit disappointing since it was mostly butter and not that much garlic. The garlic noodles were good but it was cold. The filet mignon shaken beef was pricey but really tasty, especially the sauce and the crispy potatoes. Unfortunately, the beef was more rare than I expected so it was brought back to the kitchen. Standouts: Truffle Hamachi - Summer truffle carpaccio, ponzu, tobiko caviar, scallions. The hamachi was rich, buttery, and clean, pairing beautifully with the deep, earthy aroma of truffles. Bright citrus from the ponzu cut through the richness, while the tobiko added crisp, salty pops for contrast. Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings - With squid ink tuile. Plump and juicy with a lovely balance of sweet and savory. The skin had a satisfying, toothsome chew without being thick or gummy. The squid ink tuile didn't bring much to the party. Unnecessary for a dumpling dish. It was more like a flavorless cracker than a meaningful addition. Good, Not Great: Bone Marrow with Escargot - Rau ram, garlic, toast. Decadent and indulgent, but ultimately underseasoned. Both elements leaned heavily into richness without enough acidity or brightness to bring balance. Filet Mignon Shaken Beef - Wok-flamed onions, watercress, twice-cooked potatoes. The beef was nicely tender, but the sauce didn't quite cook down into a glaze, making the dish a bit too wet. It also lacked that signature caramelized, slightly crispy edge you expect from a great shaken beef. Okay, Not Bad: Tiger Prawns with AN's Famous Garlic Noodles. The prawns overly salty. The garlic noodles were pedestrian something easily found at far less "swanky" spots. Seafood Fried Rice - Dungeness crab, scallop, shrimp, egg, scallion. Nicely seasoned with good overall flavor, but light on the crab. Disappointing: AN's Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab™ (MP) The supposed showpiece fell flat. The crab was on the dry side and lacked the bold roasted garlic punch we were expecting. We had high hopes going in thanks to all the buzz, but the experience didn't quite match the hype. We came to Crustacean SF for dinner and overall had a great experience! The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere felt upscale but still comfortable. We ordered the AN's Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab and garlic noodles! Both lived up to the hype. The crab was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, and the noodles were rich, buttery, and addicting. The Caviar & Crispy Langoustine Roll was beautifully presented and had a nice balance of texture and flavor. We also tried the Salt & Pepper Calamari, Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings, and the Escargot Bone Marrow. It's definitely on the pricier side, but the quality and presentation make it worth the splurge for a special night out. I'd come back for the crab and garlic noodles alone! read more

We've been to Crustacean at the old location multiple times, but this new location is so beautiful and the ambiance is really nice. We had a 5:15 reservation and were sat immediately which was great. The garlic crab was the same it's always been, but the garlic noodles were bland, I remember they use to have more flavor. My husband got the ginger poached sea bass and he said it also lacked flavor. Overall I would suggest giving them a try if you haven't and try that garlic crab! read more

Honestly, had better food especally for being overly priced. I don't mind but $30 dollars for fried rice is not jusifable. The ambiance is decent not fancy or fine dinning as they try to make it. The servers act like they are high class and don't really care about servce. I asked for some water they looked down on me and walked away without any response. I had to ask for water about 6 times before they even gave it to me. Ordered garlic noodles and fried rice. It was cold and been sitting awhile before served. When I went to express my concerns. It was met with very bad additude. When the bill came I did tip them 15%. They came back and demanded 20% percent tip. they are not fine dinner and did not treate us well. Food took long time and was kind of cold for hot dish. Tip is optional not manditory. Food 3.5/5 Servcice 3/5 (This was the factor of low review). Ambiance 4/5 I want to give 3 star since food and ambiance was good but service start to end was horrible. Maybe it was a one-time bad expereince for but I hope they don't treat others like this. Crustacean's new location is modern, bright & sleek with high ceilings & large windows which brings in beautiful natural light, quite different from the Polk St. location. Of the appetizers that we shared (ahi cigars, beef dumplings, truffle hamachi & salt & pepper calamari), the ahi cigars were our favorite, followed by the calamari. The beef dumplings were very flavorful. The truffle hamachi was good but was not as flavorful as the ahi cigars. We probably over ordered appetizers too. For entrees, we shared the roasted garlic crab (de-shelled), garlic noodles & roasted cauliflower & Brussels sprouts. The option to have the crab de-shelled is great because you don't have to struggle to get the crab meat out from the shell & don't have to worry about bits of crab shell & crab meat flying all over the table & yourself, even if you wear a bib. Most people didn't opt for the de-shelled crab, although the service is offered for $10. We were debating dessert since we were so full from dinner but we ordered red tea which has hawthorn berry flakes which added a hint of fruit & sweetness in addition to the coconut tapioca, which was the perfect light dessert & had pieces of mango & dragon fruit. They have a list of house created cocktails & have a full bar. My first cocktail was the Honeydew Haze & second was the lychee martini. Wow, wow, wow. My bf and I had an amazing time last night at Crustacean to celebrate his 33rd birthday. First, super easy to make a reservation on OpenTable. Second, food was impeccable. We enjoyed every dish and had absolutely no complaints (except the price, our bill was $300+ but it was so worth it!) The crab was so yummy and juicy. Shaken beef was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. And the crab puffs and dumplings were such a great start to the meal. And oh man! The baked Alaska! We had never had this dessert before but had heard of it. A must try! The decor inside was so cool and eclectic. The servers and staff were attentive. The only tiny issue was parking. A couple of the garages nearby were closed on a Saturday night so we had to circle around a bit and ended up finding free street parking but it was a 10 min walk. So be sure to do a little parking research before you head out. We will definitely be back! read more

I was a Crustacean virgin according to my coworker :P Crustacean has long been a staple in the SF food scene at their prior location on Polk. My colleagues were super excited to see them sprout up again in FiDi across from the also new location of Wayfare Tavern on Pine St. There were significant raves about their famous crab garlic noodles and as such, our whole table of 8 people bibbed up for the same order :) I would highly recommend a reservation as it was a miracle we even got one; we arrived at 5:15pm and every table filled up shortly after. SF is "so back" as they say. Very short walk from Embarcadero bart! Tuna Cigars ($20): One order comes with two, and you get a fun show of a box reveal with smoke pouring out. I would order it again; they didn't skimp on the tuna. Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings ($20): One order comes with four. I regret not taking a picture since the lighting wasn't ideal, but I love their plating! The dumplings were okay, but the star was the sauce they were served on. Spicy tamarind ginger emulsion :) Salt & Pepper Calamari ($19): The price was painful but I gotta say, the seasoning was on point and it was really good lol From the Secret Kitchen menu we ordered An's Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab (extra $5 for cracked in the shell, $10 out of the shell) with An's Famous Garlic Noodles ($16). The crab is market price so I didn't catch how much it was on the bill. I'm glad we opted for in the shell because the experience of digging in with your hands and getting the shell innards was elite. I thought my coworkers were overhyping these darn garlic noodles but dude. It actually lived up to the hype!! It's so buttery and sweet somehow and it will clog your arteries, but I would come back just to get the noods! We had amazing Chardonnay, Cab Sauv, and Champagne to cut through the heavy flavors and it was perfect. The new Crustacean is night and day compared to before--and I mean that in the best way possible. Walking in, the space feels so open and airy, with décor that's modern, stylish, and just plain beautiful. I especially loved the bar--it's sleek, inviting, and the perfect spot to grab a cocktail before dinner. You can tell a lot of thought went into every detail. The service was excellent--attentive without ever feeling rushed. Our server was friendly, knew the menu inside and out, and had great suggestions (the shaken beef was one of them!). Drinks were always topped off, and the pacing of the meal felt just right. It really made the whole night feel effortless. As for the food, it's everything I hoped for and more. The garlic noodles are still my all-time favorite (I can never resist them), the shaken beef was tender and bursting with flavor, and the spring rolls were light, crisp, and a great way to start the meal. Pair that with their fresh seafood, and it felt like the perfect mix of comfort and refinement. If I could change one thing, it would be the signature drinks. They were good, but I felt they could be a little more creative and thought out to match the level of everything else on the menu. That said, I've always loved Crustacean, but this new space really elevates the experience. I met two friends to celebrate a birthday for one of us (not me!) and have a Golden Girls moment because we are all retired. The space is well decorated, very modern and clean. We sat at a table that had chairs on one side and built in bench seating on the other side which we found to be a bit low. I felt like we could have used a booster seat, lol. We opted to share everything and ordered the steamed shrimp and lobster dumplings, Kohlrabi Caesar salad, their signature roasted garlic crab and noodles with a side of wild pink shrimp. The presentation of the dumplings was nicely done. A lacy squid ink tuille sat atop the dumplings. They were tender, tasty, and the soy mustard vinaigrette complemented the seafood nicely. The tuille added a nice texture but didn't really have a pronounced flavour on its own. The Kohlrabi Caesar salad was interesting. The vegetable was thinly shaved into wide ribbons and dressed lightly in their version of Caesar dressing. I don't usually eat the croutons, but the ones in the salad were good. They had absorbed enough of the dressing so they were not dry or too hard. They are a good size, too. Don't change that. Unfortunately for us, the crab was a disappointment. It would have been nice to have the option of it being presented whole instead of out of shell. (Their dinner menu offers both options.) Larger pieces of crab were fine but anything small was dry and overcooked, perhaps when being heated with the sauce. We also found the garlic noodles to be dry as well and the butterflied prawns were overcooked and rubbery. After we finished, our birthday girl was given a complementary banana a la mode dessert, complete with a lit candle. It was so appreciated, but we still ordered a Baked Alaska to complete our experience. It was beautifully done, the torching on the meringue left it with nice golden brown highlights. The base was a chocolate cake that seemed a bit solid - maybe it was frozen so it would stand up to the salty caramel ice cream toffee mousse. But let me tell you, there must have been a pint of ice cream under the meringue! Depending on how much you like ice cream, this can easily be shared with 4+ people. Service was warm and attentive, the food well presented with some misses on their signature dishes. Our food tab came to $270 with tip, no cocktails or wine. Do it again? Possibly, but would opt for ordering small plates with a large plate to share. read more
