Let's discuss Crustacean's. First of all, let me start off by saying that I have frequented Crustacean's for over 20 years, and have never had a subpar experience. They have been my family's go-to restaurant for many of our celebratory events, and we love their food and service. With that said, I am very aware that businesses need to evolve and make augments to the way that things have always been done; however, the hubs and I frequented Crustacean's recently at their new location, and I must say that we were substantially underwhelmed. Although they had a new fancy establishment, something was lost in translation. There was something about the nostalgia of the older building. Yes, it certainly needed work, but the food was always great. As for our recent visit, the food was not as good, nor was the service, and the ambiance totally lacked the family feeling that once brought so much warmth and comfort. Now it feels commercial and run-of-the-mill. Of course we will give it another try, but for now, I'm sad that the change brought about a feeling of loss and disappointment.

Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Food consistently 5/5 We arrived on a Saturday no reservation and were offered bar seating right away. This spot is pricey, however it's worth it every time whenever I go out for roasted crab and garlic noodles this place sets the comparison bar to others. Crustaceans consistently delivers the best crab and garlic noodles bare none. Go here, it's a special occasion so order what you want and you'll be satisfied with experiencing this treasure that started in San Francisco

Tried Crustacean... and honestly, a bit underwhelmed It's definitely on the fancier side, but felt overpriced for what you get. The steak was delicious, no complaints there -- but the portion was tiny. Calamari was thin and crispy, but I personally prefer thicker cuts and have definitely had better elsewhere. The standout for the table was actually the fried rice -- that was the favorite. Overall, not bad, just not worth the price in my opinion.

Reservation at 11:45am on a Thursday. As soon as we walk in, we are are greeted by the hosts seats us. Amazing, beautiful setting and clean! The waiter brought us our menus, brought us our water and we ordered. The 3 of us shared food and everything was so good! We didn't have 1 bad entree. Looked like everyone helps each other out bc the bartender helped cleared our table and asked if we wanted a desert menu. We never had to ask to refill our waters. Amazing time, amazing vibes and better yet, amazing food. Pricey but worth it. We had 5 entrees which totaled $125.41 which includes gratuity. Would definitely be coming back and try other things on the menu

Since we were all busy during the holidays, I did two bday dinners in a row. I know the birthday girl loves crab and garlic noods so I suggested Crustaceans. I've never been to this location so it was like going to a new resto! I mean, you have to get their two staples. The roast crab has always been my fav. Even tho I like recipes with actual pieces of roasted garlic, this has a fair amount of flavor. The garlic noodles were springy with a nice chew. I actually loved putting some in the crab head with all the fatty innards. So good! I found the apps okay. Not enough bread for the marrow. We ended up ordering more. And I found the dumplings a lil small. Drinks here are excellent tho. I was in the mood for something light and enjoyed the paper plane. This vibe of the new location is definitely swankier than its predecessor. Boisterous music. Large booths. I did enjoy this environment more than the one on Polk. Tho our table could have been a little bigger. Maybe we over ordered? Pricing is on the more expensive side, but crab normally is. Their wine list isn't too bad tho. The BV bottle we ended up getting was only $45 per. We shoulda just stuck to that. It was a nice table red. Not sure if they tack on a 20% service charge for all parties or if it's just 5 or more, but we had it on our receipt. If you're craving crab in a more upscale environment, definitely would recommend this spot. REVIEW #3962

I was excited to try the famous crab garlic noodles at Crustacean after hearing the hype around the original Thanh Long and stopped by this Fidi location for a nice lunch with a friend. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and the ambiance really made it feel like an elevated lunch location. Between the 2 of us we got the Roasted Dungeness Crab with garlic noodles on the side and the Chrysanthemum Gem salad to share. First starting off with the salad, it was a solid caesar salad and the large pieces of rice crackers on top were fun to break apart and eat with the salad itself. The star of course was suppose to be the crab cracked out of shell and the famous garlic noodles. I really wanted to love this but I actually thought it lacked flavor and while the crab was coated with garlic butter, it was dry in some parts and the garlic didn't shine. Same with the noodles which were on the heavier side with garlic butter but felt kind of gummy to me. I really wanted to enjoy this more but the combo just felt like too much without providing enough flavor and for the price there are better Asian restaurants in the city which serve fresh crab. I may try Crustacean again if I was looking for an elevated lunch spot in Fidi for a work lunch but I wouldn't say it's worth coming to again just for the food itself.

===TL;DR=== - AN's famous garlic noodles - AN's famous garlic roasted Dungeness crab $88 + out of the shell $10 - Filet mignon shaken beef - Cocktails - It's not soup - Daughter of the dragon - Dessert - Baked Alaska (Chocolate Cake, Salty Caramel Ice Cream Toffee Mousse, Meringue) ===TMI=== Came here for a celebration so reservation is recommended! Though, their space looks big enough to accommodate walk-ins. Entered a lovely, modernized and upscale Vietnamese fusion spot with cultural decors. Got seated at a moody dimly lit table with a beautiful calla lily. The server was attentive and offered great recommendations. Gotta get all the classics here. I got lazy so opted for the "out of the shell" option on their infamous garlic crab. I gotta say, as good as that was, it did lean a bit on the saltier side. The garlic noodle was divine, especially paired with the crab and extra butter sauces! On the other end, I throughly enjoyed the shaken beef. Filet mignon is one of my favorite cuts and everything mended so well together - great flavors to pair with a bowl of rice. I loved their drinks. The "it's not soup" was so lovely to enjoy and such a cute concept drinking out of a bowl. The "daughter of the dragon" was on the spicier side but also really good. Highly recommend both! Lastly, I was so curious on what a baked Alaska was and ohhhmmgeeee. It was amazing! It's as if pizookie and smores had a baby, this is it. Layers of salty caramel ice cream, toffee mousse on chocolate cake and getting hugged by cushiony marshmallow exterior - superb. It is quite a sweet treat so I recommend sharing!

From the first bite to the last sip, the food here is truly chef's kiss. And the drinks? They're not just cocktails--they're edible art. One of the managers shared something special with us: a sample of macerated kumquat peel that he personally prepares by hand. He peels the fruit himself to extract the juice, which becomes part of a unique specialty cocktail created for Lunar New Year 2026. It felt like getting a behind-the-scenes taste of the craft. The drink itself was incredibly refreshing--almost light enough to feel borderline healthy. We started with green mussels served on slightly toasted sourdough rounds that tasted as though they'd been lovingly dipped in butter. Absolutely delicious. The calamari was decent--though I'm notoriously picky about calamari. The batter was wonderfully crunchy, but the meat leaned a little rubbery for my taste. The chicken rolls had one of the best fillings I've ever had--savory, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The only thing I wished for was a bit more crunch in the wrapper; I love a crispy roll and this one was slightly on the softer side. Ironically, I arrived not very hungry. But by the time we were leaving, the woman dining near us was devouring her dish with such enthusiasm that we had to ask what it was. It turned out to be Dungeness crab with glass noodles in a delicate soy, ginger, garlic, and green onion marinade. We tried it--and wow. Absolutely delicious. A solid 10/10. The drinks deserve their own standing ovation. Thanks to Raul, Perdón andWe had raspberry and lemon lemon drops made with fresh lemon juice--you could immediately taste the difference. Then there was the custom cocktail made especially for us featuring soursop and kumquat. Neither flavor dominated; instead they blended into something beautifully balanced. It arrived garnished with kumquat and candied ginger and looked as stunning as it tasted. Truly a drinkable work of art. And the atmosphere? Simply breathtaking. This is one of the most beautifully designed dining spaces I've ever experienced--second only, perhaps, to RH Marin. Along the back wall are oversized plush velvet booths that feel luxurious and inviting. Sheer curtains add just enough privacy without closing off the room. The lighting is perfectly dim--moody and elegant, yet bright enough to comfortably read the menu. Every detail feels intentional. It's clear they've thought about their guests' comfort at every level. From the food and drinks to the design and ambiance, the entire experience feels thoughtfully curated and genuinely special.

First time at the new location, thankfully my reservation reminder also noted the new location as I wasn't aware they moved (9 months ago)! Pros- each dish we ordered was quite tasty. We had.... Shaking beef, garlic noodles, crab wontons, crispy chicken rolls, snap peas, Wagyu fried rice, and of course the garlic roasted crab! Table favorites were the shaking beef and snap peas. Service was good, they also gave my two girlfriends and I a scoop of ice cream each to celebrate our birthdays! The new location's ambience is very trendy, compared to the old location, which was quite dated. Cons- the bathrooms are a bit strange. It could be my old eyes, but I couldn't tell which ones were free without trying each handle. On food and drinks - they no longer serve their signature crustacean drink, which a friend was looking forward to having. And while the noodles were good, they weren't as flavorful as we remembered. Our table favorites were the snap peas and shaking beef... not what I would have thought before going! Considering the price of the crab (88 + 10 for shelling the crab for us)... can't give a rating of "5." Oh....while the shaking beef was a table favorite, I felt it was plated incorrectly. The plate was too big for the size of the table. Not a huge deal, but something that stood out to me. All in all, we are glad we tried the new location.

Gorgeous restaurant serving modern Vietnamese food, specializing in crab. We ordered a couple of cocktails which were all delicious, on the sweeter side, but that's my preference anyways. As for dishes, we did family style and had the bo kho dumplings (delicious), fried calamari (nothing special but still good), roasted cauliflower and Brussels (sweet and roasted), garlic crab with no shell (must order), garlic noodles (must order), shaken beef (also delicious), and seafood fried rice (basic but good). Prices are definitely on the steeper end, but that's expected given the location. There's an option to have your crab cracked with no shell for an additional $10, which I think is well worth it. Would definitely come back again!

Garlic noodles here are FIRE! Everything we ordered was delicious. Crab was so buttery and flavorful, definitely one of the best I've had. Surprisingly their dessert was insanely good as well--we tried every item on the menu and it was chefs kiss. Downside is this is a rather pricey spot so definitely more of a date night or nice occasion spot. And also, for a nice restaurant, felt weird wearing a bib and eating crab with my hands lol. Service was great and loved that they helped us decide popular dishes to order for our big group size.

The new Crustacean location is absolutely gorgeous! We dined on the classic Roasted Dungeness Crab and Garlic Noodles, both are must haves! We also tried a few things new to us, the Shrimp and Lobster Dumplings, Kohlrabi Caesar Salad, Salt and Pepper Calamari, and Cellophane Noodles with Dungeness crab. We finished off the evening with the Crème Brûlée and Baked Alaska. I had initially assumed to skip dessert because I had the deep fried bananas recently at Thanh Long, so it was nice to see that the dessert menu was different. Top takeaways: The Kohlrabi Caesar Salad was a lovely bright dish to balance the richness of the Roasted Dungeness Crab and Garlic Noodles. Don't skip on the Baked Alaska!

Had a dinner reservation for 4. We sat in a curved booth which was really private and comfortable. AN's Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab The Dungeness crab MP was like $88 for us . Lava chocolate cake - this was disappointing as it was fully cooked through. no flow at all

    Ask the Community - Crustacean

Is there parking near the restaurant?

Hi, after 6pm I believe the street parking is free on some streets. Parking is easier to find on the right side of the restaurant on any street just an FYI.

Is there a dress code like the old one on Polk Street?

Considering they are located in the Financial District, a lot of the clientele were in business casual, but my group (retired ladies) were dressed in jeans, nice blouses and jackets during the lunch hour.

    Do they take walk ins?

They used to. However, I would recommend checking open table or calling. They have been pretty busy at their new location

The charbroiled beef had the smallest hint of sweetness for me. The noodles had a nice chew to them, and were dry but in the best way possible. A lot of garlic noodles tend to be too oily and leave an unpleasant lingering mouthfeel, but that wasn't the case here. The noodles could have used more garlic for my preference, but I think it was well balanced with the flavorful protein and fish sauce. The imperial rolls were okay and a nice crunchy side. I wouldn't get them as a separate appetizer, but only $1 more to add to your dish is unbeatable. Overall a great experience and I'd definitely bring some friends here for a comforting meal.

I've given this place multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately each experience has been uncomfortable in one way or another. The first time was around 2022. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the owner told us he would still serve us. After seating us, though, he immediately pressured us to order quickly and told us we had to eat fast because they were closing. I was with my elderly relatives too so just turn us away? If that was the case, it would've been better to simply not seat us. Don't be greedy just bc you want a few bucks. Another time, my husband called to order Hanoi-style pho to go, and the owner responded with unnecessary attitude, saying that's the only kind they serve. LOL, ok. The interaction felt rude for no reason. Most recently, we came on Mother's Day. The dishwasher/staff member was also unfriendly. The bun cha was decent according to my mom, and my husband said the beef stew noodle dish was okay, but my pho lacked flavor entirely. I wasn't expecting it to compare to pho in Vietnam or even San Jose, but it tasted very bland so I didn't finish it. The service from the owner continues to be the biggest issue. When we paid, he stood over us while I counted cash, so I felt pressure to count fast and add tip quickly. He left then came back a few seconds later then quickly grabbed the money without even asking whether I needed change and disappeared faster than the wind. The whole interaction felt awkward and pushy. He has a very strange personality. He's honestly very sleazy and has bad energy After several experiences like this, we won't be returning.

The interior is nicely decorated and transports you to Vietnam, and they have windows that extend outwards which opens up the space, and is especially nice on a bright sunny day. Pros: .
