This is my all-time favorite restaurant! It's a small two story restaurant located in the outer Sunset district. The parking can be tricky since it's located in a residential neighborhood. The service is fast and friendly. No visit to San Francisco is complete without the Roast Crab from Thanh Long. The garlic noodles are also popular but the Roast Crab is definitely the star. The sauce is absolutely amazing! It's no wonder it's made in their secret kitchen within the kitchen. It's pricey but so worth it.
The food was OK. It's been over five years since I've been back here and then I remembered why. My brother took my mom and I in here for Mother's Day this year. We were eager to try the garlic noodles but when they served them, they didn't taste the same. The Portions were so so, but I guess this place is only known for its crab and possibly garlic noodles. I really big cleanness and the walls were pretty nasty. They looked as if they haven't been wiped down for months and then I'll have a very bad taste in my mouth, but maybe I'm just too picky.
Came here for Valentines Day for an early dinner and had a wonderful time! On a busy day like Valentine's, the food came out fast and the service was great. The roast crab and garlic noodles were just as delicious as I remembered. They really do have the best garlic noodles in SF!I will always come here for those two items. I ordered the lychee martini and it was a tad strong for my palette. Parking can be a little difficult, so make sure to allocate some time to not be late. Will always come back anytime I am craving crab and garlic noodles!
Oh. My. God. Every time I come back to the Bay Area -- which is home to me -- I make it a point to eat GOOD food. This visit, I randomly told my brother I was craving seafood (which is funny because I usually don't come here for seafood). But it's crab season in the Bay, so we did a little TikTok/Instagram research and found 10 Long. First things first: make a reservation. This place gets PACKED. It's a small, mom-and-pop style spot on a corner, super cozy but very popular. We walked in and were greeted by the cutest host ever. There's also a bar, which is a plus. We already knew what we wanted and ordered: * Shaken beef * Shrimp toast * Roasted crab (market price) * Garlic noodles with prawn We even asked our server if it was too much food, and she confidently told us we'd be fine -- and she was absolutely right. Customer service was a solid 10/10 from start to finish. We both ordered drinks, and I had a white wine that paired perfectly with seafood (I was very happy about that). Everyone was incredibly friendly and attentive. They even give you crab crackers/tools to open the crab, which I appreciated. And when I say that crab was FILLED with meat, I mean FILLED. Yes, it's market price and can get pricey -- our whole crab was $88 -- but it was 100% worth it. Food breakdown: * Shaken beef: 10/10 -- insanely tender and flavorful * Garlic noodles with prawn: 10/10 -- perfect balance of garlic, butter, and whatever magic they put in there * Roasted crab with buttery garlic sauce: absolutely amazing * Shrimp toast: 8/10 -- good, but probably wouldn't order it again Normally with crab or seafood, I feel like I need rice -- but here, you don't. The noodles and crab are more than enough. Nothing felt wasted or overly heavy, and we didn't leave feeling uncomfortably full at all. We arrived earlier when it was still calm, but by around 7:30 PM, the place got very crowded -- another reason reservations are a must. This is an amazing date night spot, special-occasion worthy, and just an overall vibe. Yes, it's on the pricier side -- but the quality, service, and experience make it well worth it. I will absolutely be back next time I'm in the Bay Area.
I used to eat at their An the Go trucks back in college and suddenly had craving for their noodles and beef. Thought id finally make the trip to their restaurant. Althought pricing May be on the expensive side, the service and taste is spectacular. Food is serve just a few minutes after ordering and their wait staff is very attentive. Just watch for the receipt as service charge is already included.
Still the absolute best crab in the city. The food is so damn good! The service was good but not the greatest. The staff are moving fast & attentive but its not personable. It was our birthday & they did nothing to help us celebrate that ( yes I made a note on the reservation). I hoped for more after spending over $200$. We had a reservation but they sat us about 10 min late. The ambiance needs some improvement its pretty casual as is. I would still go back cuz the crab is AMAZING!
We came to Thanh Long to celebrate my birthday. We had made reservations and were seated immediately after checking in. The restaurant itself is older, pretty deep, and has upstairs seating as well. Since we were a larger party, we ordered a handful of items including: steamed sea bass, shaken beef, 2 crabs (tamarind and roasted), garlic noodles, and eggplant. The seasoning on both crabs were pretty salty so we had to order some white rice to tame the flavor. Based on taste and the size of the menu, personally I prefer PPQ in the Richmond more. I'm glad I was able to try this long standing restaurant and their service was solid, but I probably wouldn't come back as often.

Definitely make a reservation ahead of time--the wait can get pretty long--but I promise, it's worth it. The atmosphere is intimate while still being great for groups, and the staff were all incredibly friendly and accommodating. We ordered their most popular dishes, the roast crab and garlic noodles, and it did not disappoint. So simple, yet so flavorful--absolutely mouthwatering . They were out of the seafood dumplings, but the staff recommended the calamari instead. It came with a well-balanced dipping sauce that paired perfectly. The only downside of the meal was the steamed rice--it was overcooked and a bit hard, which threw me off. Aside from that (and the struggle to find parking, but that's SF for you), this place is a must-go!
An SF staple! I made reservations for 4 at 6:15pm on a Sunday. Parking is limited, I suggest parking closer to the beach and walking, which isn't too far, just dress warm! Crispy Rice Paper Roll: ($14) 7/10! They only provide 2 rolls cut in half, so it's truly just an appetizer. Roast Crab: ($88) 10/10! Super pricey for one, which is 2lbs. One was enough for my party, however 2 might be more filling. I love the oil and pepper in the crab!! Garlic Noodles: ($16) 10/10! We ordered 2 plates which was enough. Note that one plate is enough for 1-2 people as it is a small plate. Steamed Sea Bass: ($42) 4/10. Very tiny, sauce was just lemon-ey. Not the best, but pretty good if dipped in the crab oil! Chocolate Lava Cake: 9/10! They make this there, and it's delicious! I'm typically hesitant about chocolate cake and this one was delicious, which vanilla bean ice cream. Recommended by our waiter! Fried Banana a La Mode: 6/10! Not bad, included ice cream, but the lava cake takes the lead. You can also ask for free birthday ice cream upon request! Overall, a great place to celebrate an occasion. Very pricey for what you get, but I was very satisfied with my meal!
omg holy crab THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!!! Unless you're allergic or out of your mind, you HAVE to get the garlic noodles. So buttery, garlicy in the most perfect way. The sauce coats the noodles well and the egg noodles are perfectly soft. The roasted crab...ADDICTING! High quality crab meat in the most delicious garlic, butter, salt, and pepper sauce. MMMM I was obsessed. The thanh long fish was good but could've used more dill in my opinion. Shrimp toast was moist and flavorful and great way to start the meal. Service was fast and attentive, but the crab was so good, I barely noticed the waiters LOL Would LOVE to come here again. I think it's the perfect get together spot that can be casual but also seems more upscale.
So glad I finally got experience this SF institution. Did it live up to the hype? Yup! We went for the collosal shrimp and the roasted crab. Tons of flavor in both dishes. My partner and I regretted not ordering the toast to sop up all the savory, peppery butter left over from the crab. Dobt sleep on the the fried banana dessert! It was a perfect way to end the meal! The service was great. They were busy, but our server was still able to provide us warm, genuine, good service. We can't wait to come back to try the other crab dishes.
My family has been coming to this restaurant since the early 70's. So this is my all time favorite restaurant. Since I moved to the East Bay , I don't come here as often as I would like to and also it's hell expensive but worth it lol. What I order ..... Crab puffs 8/10 Crispy spring roll 2/10 ( I almost asked for my money back . This use to be my favorite item to eat her and it did not taste good . No one at my table enjoyed it .. sorry being honest . Roasted Crab 10/10 garlic noodles with the Tiger prawns 10/10 Garlic fried rice 8/10 Seafood rice 8/10 Fried banana 10/10 Cheesecake 10/10 Customer services 10/10 My only complaint is that I wish they would bring back the fried pineapple and go back to the old recipe for the crispy spring rolls.

Highly recommend a reservation. Parking is tough, but they are located near a train station. One of the best garlic noodles and crab dishes I ever had. I visited from Los Angeles to try this place and I miss it dearly. Service is great. The restaurant has a family style and culture to it, so it makes it a great time for friends and family. read more

For some reason or maybe i'm trippin but they jack up their price so muchhj this year after the renovation?? Taste is exquisite and crab is good sharing size. 1 roasted crab can feed 2-3 people But like 1 crab for $80 ?? I remember it was cheaper back then read more

We walk in and had reservations. We were seated right away. Very friendly hostess in service was very attentive. We are off at menus right away. I asked if you wanted to do anything to drink right away. It is not a huge restaurant, but there is seating and they got pretty busy once we were there. The crispy spring rolls were pretty good but for $15 very small. The muscles may have been the best appetizer we had. The calamari was lightly breaded and very good. Definitely a good size portion. I got the shaking beef, but forgot to take a picture of it. It was flavorful tender, and a fairly good sized portion. The other three people all got a roasted crab. It was good and of course, messy but they gave us all bibs. The food was good, but in my opinion, not worth the price of the final tab. One crab alone was $88. Unfortunately, for dessert the only thing I wanted was a crème brûlée cheesecake and they were out even though it was only 7 o'clock. They did surprise me with some ice cream with a candle in it for my birthday. read more
I love this restaurant because the ambience is nice. The service I experienced was exceptional. However, the parking is horrific. I wish they had valet or something. You waste your time looking for parking. You can practically lose your reservation due to looking for a park. However, the food was delicious. It was five of us and the bill was about 700+ but we enjoyed ourselves. I love their garlic, Dungeness crab, garlic noodles, and calamari. read more

Honestly I thought i wrote a review for this place a long time ago after coming here so many times but i guess i didn't because i was too full and fell into a food coma afterwards. I highly recommend making a reservation. We came to celebrate my partner's birthday and it wasn't a disappointment! I love LOVE their pepper roasted crab! Give me that and garlic noodles and you wont hear me peep a word! Take that garlic noodle and mix it in the crab head shell and eat out of it like a plate! Omg I'm craving it again... just get one crab per-person because im not sharing mine, with some garlic noodles and thats perfect! If you (Like my family) want to try other things also then definitely get the Shaking beef! The staff there is amazing also! They deserve every single tip. The place is so busy and they do an amazing job taking care of the table. Its busy there, the lights are dim; its not the best place for a first date but its a great place for every other occasion. If you're from the Bay Area or visiting, and you tell someone you're going to Thang Long, you will always receive some oohs and ahs, and rightfully so. In terms of fine dining, they set the bar. We booked online a day before and were able to find a table for four. During February, this is unlikely to be the case, so plan ahead. Parking is all street parking, so pack your patience, if you choose to drive. The last time we came, we parked a distance away and even had our first Waymo experience. I would recommend using a car service over parking there. We were a little late for our reservation, but they still honored it. Our server was timely in her introduction. We weren't ready to order initially, but when she returned a few minutes later, we were. The table ordered two roasted crabs, the prawns over garlic noodles, and three side orders of garlic noodles, and the fried banana for dessert. The roasted crab is packed with flavor and cracks easily; we didn't have to put up a fight to eat. The prawns come in a four-piece serving and were just as flavorful as the crab. But the star of the show or the must-have is the garlic noodles. We all ordered them. Honey is lactose intolerant, and apparently, the garlic noodles that come with the prawns already have cheese on them. This was fine, but it is a good note to know for others with dietary restrictions. One thing I appreciate about a five-star restaurant is that they don't have assigned servers/ tables; they work as a unit. Anyone who walked past our table refilled our glasses of water. That is a sign of a good customer experience, and as long as the food remains good, they will always have me as a customer. read more

Don't let your first impression fool you. In Thanh Long, the dingy entrance and the unpleasant seafood odor as I entered almost made me walk back out. I'm glad I didn't. The food here is superb! Not the usual phos and spring rolls, Thanh Long specializes in seafood. We came to try a recommendation - garlic noodles - but ended up with more seafood dishes. The Roast Crab is a must! It's studded with ground black pepper and salt, a seemingly simple condiment, but combined with garlic, it brought so much flavor to the crab. This is a must try. The Thanh Long Mussels is the second runner up of the night. While the THANH LONG FISH was not worth its price. The noodles are a must too if one is not on a carb diet. read more
I ordered to go cuz I had to go get across that bridge!! lol. Commuters understand! Noodles were a bit gummy & bare (where the toppings at; garlic/chilis/green onion bits), and i forgot to order exxxtra garlic. Crab was good, perfectly flavored. Enough for leftovers. The meal should be eaten there for best results if it's ur 1st time but if u come often, to go works well. read more

It was hard to come around this 3 star. But I have to. First I want to say the place is so busy, so I completely understand the rush hour. But, receiving service is important in my book. Particularly if I'm about to spend my hard earned money on a good meal. Mind this place is expensive and for a party of two all I can say the food was basic. And nothing extraordinary or extravagant. I love the crab however, I felt the food didn't demand the high end tag. Especially since I have been to other major restaurants in the city and abroad. With that said, I think this place hold history if you're looking for that. The food is ok and if you want to be ignored for bigger parties be my guest. I feel that because our tips are included the less they pay attention to smaller patrons. Either way, I just hope I went on an off day. However, I don't think I would want to be back again. read more

Thanh Long is known as an SF OG and it is very clear it from the popularity of the place once you step inside. The main dishes to get are any kind of crab and the garlic noodles. Honestly after tasting the coconut shrimp, you should only consider the crab and noods, other dishes we ordered felt like pity additions to the team (and not worth the price) when two star players really take the spotlight You'll get a bib for your upcoming showdown with the crab and the servers were nice enough to help me retie it when it became undone from my flavour induced neck and shoulder thrashings. The roast crab (and house sauce) is BEAUTIFUL. It's hard to imagine it could be so good when what seems to be staring back at me is simply butter, pepper and salt, what a time to be alive The garlic noodles are also fantastically done, if you don't care about public image then, like me, use your hands to grab the noods, dip it in the crab sauce, proceed to engulf with your mouth - You know that vine where the guy puts the whisk into his mouth. That is what we're going for here but the whisk is you arranging your fingers to make a duck shadow on the wall with a flashlight read more
Tried this restaurant because of all the reviews, it was actually rated higher than another establishment that we love (PPQ) that also serves crab and garlic noodles. I will say this place was worth the visit, although if it's just garlic crab you are seeking, I'd go to PPQ, but the rest of the menu including the garlic noodles likely exceeds that place. (We did order the fried rice but would probably skip that next time as it didn't have much flavor). Service was fast and efficient and the ambiance was nice, although somewhat tight quarters where you can hear your neighbors' conversations. The only downside is the bathroom, it's a one seater, and I waited for several minutes to get in, first to use the restroom then to wash my hands after dinner. Each time there was a line. Would love it if they could find a spot for a sink outside the restroom to wash up after destroying this crab! read more
Thanh Long is one of the, if not the first Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco, and no, they don't do phó! It's a quaint and cozy little spot, but the parking can be a bit hellish! Reservations are recommended, which we had, and we were sat right away! The wait staff were all very prompt, friendly, attentive, and courteous! IF you've never been here, they are KNOWN for their roast crab and garlic noodles! Realistically, you can't pick a bad item on the menu! I really like their Shaken Beef! Their crab is second to none! The flavors go throughout! If the shell was edible, I would eat it! The garlic noodles are a nice balance to the crab with a good garlicky flavor, but not overpowering! Everything was delightful! Had a 7:15 reservation but showed up a little early, they seated us right away, which was a nice surprise. The place has a warm, cozy vibe with a touch of old-school charm that instantly makes you feel relaxed. We started off with a couple appetizers that came out super fast, but let's be real, everyone comes here for the crab and garlic noodles. And they did not disappoint. We ordered both the original roasted garlic crab and the tamarind version. The roasted was my favorite; buttery, garlicky, and packed with flavor. The tamarind had a nice tang and was just as solid. The garlic noodles? Easily some of the best I've had. Rich, chewy, and full of that savory umami flavor that keeps you going back for more. Good food, good service, and relaxed ambiance at Thanh Long. Waiters are very attentive and polite. I started with the Green Mussels as an appetizer, it was delicious. For the order, I had the Jumbo Prawns over Garlic Noodles. I also had the Thanh Long Fish plate. The presentation of the Prawns over Garlic Noodles was not the best, it was a simple dish that was good. The fish plate was just ok, as the fish was not seasoned. This iconic establishment has been around for decades operated by the same family since inception. When talking about Dungeness Crab there are specific SF restaurants that come to mind and Thanh Long is one of them. Specifically the Roasted Crab which is a feast perfect for two. The crab is salty, peppery, buttery and decadent. It may take you two hours to crack and eat but it's worth the messy goodness. Restaurant provided plastic bib should definitely be worn. Also had the garlic noodles which TL originated or was one of the first to serve. So garlicky that leftovers will smell up your house! Yes they're that aromatic and even better the next day after microwaving which makes the noodles chewier which is more my style. Yes, we had the two iconic dishes of Roasted Crab and Garlic Noodles but also liked their Mango Salad, shaking Beef, Fried Calamari, and Green Beans. The two former items are their signature dishes. TL has upstairs and downstairs seating, good service, and the place can get noisy. Large parties are easily accommodated and the only challenge is finding parking in the residential neighborhood. Not sure if the owner's website (https://crustaceansf.com/) was on purpose or in misleading page design, the famous Crustacean at Polk St in downtown San Francisco did close permanently but moved to a new location at Pine St (see https://www.crustaceansfpine.com/), while it only listed this restaurant, Thanh Long, as a sister branch - actually it was the original store by House of An, per the website. For people stay nearby would be a benefit plus, but not really for tourist taking a long ride just for such special cooked crustacean, and (definitely) pasta/noodles, which had been one of the favorites to enjoy Dungeness crab at Pacific coast. The crab was filled with flavor of garlic and herbs, a superior version comparing to traditional American style with melt butter. Hands down the best crab I've had anywhere in the Bay Area. Please keep in mind it is not cheap, even if there is a bountiful crab season. Expect to pay around $80 for a crab but they are huge (have always been at least two pounds). I would stick with the classic garlic roast crab and get some garlic noods, rice and bread to sop up all the delicious buttery goodness. Service was good and attentive. The food came out extremely fast (I would ask them to stagger the dishes if you want a longer meal). Ambiance is nice but a very casual vibe. Finally went to Thanh Long after hearing about this famous Bay Area institution for so long from family and friends. It definitely did not disappoint. We had the calamari, garlic noodles, wok noodles with shrimp, shaken beef, and of course the roast crab. Everything was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The calamari was light and crispy, and the salt and pepper seasoning was just right. It didn't really need the spicy mayo on the side (still ate it though) since it was so good as-is. Wok noodles were a pleasant surprise. Somewhat similar to a chow mein but the wok hei and smoky flavor really made the seemingly ordinary dish stand out. Shaken beef was delicious. The server asked us how we wanted them cooked (we got medium rare), which was unexpected but pleasant! It was so yummy and tender. Garlic noodles. What else can I say? They are famous for a reason. The best garlic noodles I've ever had in my life. Perfectly bouncy with a garlic flavor that's balanced and not overwhelming. I've had garlic noodles before where the garlic just sits on a plain noodle, but here, all the flavors were perfectly absorbed. And of course, the roast crab. The perfect vessel for the secret sauce. Not too salty, but super flavorful and umami, while still keeping the sweetness of the crab. Everything was perfectly seasoned and packed a punch without feeling heavy. Truly a legendary spot. Probably some of the best garlic noodles in the Bay Area, and that's an impressive commendation to get, because most garlic noodle spots are really good - it's a simple dish with an excellent flavor profile. The crab was fantastic and honestly fairly priced. Market price for crab + what was frankly an enormous crab + hard-hitting flavors = worth it to me. Boyfriend and I struggled to finish the crab even though we only ordered two dishes; it was AMAZING, punch-you-in-the-face-type flavor. I'm coming back next month to take my mom here, lol. Making it my mission to bring everyone I love to this restaurant!!! Brought my grandparents here the other day and enjoyed the Roasted Crab with the secret sauce, Garlic Noodles, Seafood Fried Rice, Seasonal Veggies. For apps: the shrimp toast and prawn wontons. Just as good as I remembered from my last visit!! Crab is a lot of work but worth the reward! Staff was great and helped us figure out how much crab to order for the five of us! We didn't have a reservation but went in about 5:30pm on Sunday and only waited ~10min for a table l. I had a fab lychee martini! Be careful as the tables were uneven and I spilled half my glass on the gap! The restaurant has a chic vibe and everyone was super into their meals. My order: Roast Garlic Crab $85 Garlic Noodles Garlic Rice Sautéed veggies Lychee Martini Another must during my visit to the Bay. Thanh has not changed since I left 5 years ago. They continue to have the best crab so far that I have tasted. It was worth every dollar! The rice is my preference over the noodles. The veggies had a sweet flavor, but not overpowering. It's SF, so parking is horrible! The service was great as I was seated as soon as my party arrived. They were quick with our meal and the waiter was friendly and provided great service. They also own Crustacean, so if you cannot get to Thanh check them out as well. The Ambiance, is basic it's really all about the crab. We think it's soaked in a special seasoning mixture that is not salty, but a slight sweetness and unique garlic unlike no other. uh...ONE! I mean, you can be nice and share. On my last visit, I did share a crab with a cousin along with another dish. We both agreed that the crab is not a shareable item. LOL
Is there an elevator/is it wheelchair accessible?
There are two stories however you can always request the first level being that the entry is wheelchair accessible meaning no stairs at the front of the building.
Do you need a reservation or are walk-ins welcome?
I have gone as a walk-in twice. As long as you don't have a large party you're trying to seat you should be fine. Might have to wait a little because they seem to stay pretty busy.

Sure. I've seen plenty of people with babies there. Although a heads up, there are no changing tables in the restrooms.

We paid about $45 for the crab we had, but it really depends on the season and size of the crab; it would be based on "market prices".
Is there parking spaces?
There is valet available right in front or you can look for street parking. No designated parking stalls
Are you allowed to make Togo orders?
Yes! You can either call in a Togo order or if eating at the restaurant at the time you order what you'd like to eat also can let your server know that you would like a Togo order. Togo order will be brought out when you ask for your bill.
