This is a small quaint place. Be sure to make a reservation before you go. We waited about 1 1/2 hours, and the service is a bit slow. They are not in a rush to clean up tables so they could seat the next guests. It's more like a we'll seat them when we seat them. No sense of urgency. The food is really good and fresh, but beware that their most popular items do contain peanuts inside of them. The river prawns were a bit overrated in my opinion. Overcooked and bit tough, and chewy would not get them again. Ask for extra napkins up front since you do end up eating with your hands most of it.
This restaurant is a fun place to go with friends and make your own spring rolls at the table. The portions were pretty large and every table gets a giant plate of vegetables and plenty of rice paper for the rolls. The meats had really good flavor. My favorites were the shrimp (had a nice charred/grilled flavor), along with the pork sausage (sweet and tender). However my friends and I agreed that the food was rather oily so it didn't make us feel great after eating. It can get crowded inside as well. Service was very slow and it took us a long time to get seated and also get our food. Given the slow service and very oily meats, I probably would not come back. However, I really like the concept of this restaurant, so if you are looking for a DIY spring roll spot this is the place to go!
Went for a weekend dinner and had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. It was busy and the space is on the smaller side. Service was friendly. They are dinner only so plan accordingly! I love Vietnamese spring rolls, so I was really excited to try this spot. We ordered a variety of dishes, and they also came with veggies and rice paper. - cha gio anh hong: 8 egg rolls with shrimp, pork, and vermicelli. Crispy and great to wrap with veggies and rice paper. - bo nuong la lot: grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf. The beef had a nice texture, but the leaf was not my favorite, though others in our group enjoyed it. - nem nuong: grilled pork that was delicious and classic. - banh xeo: my favorite dish. It was quite large and filled with shrimp and pork. Despite the generous filling, the crepe stayed perfectly crispy with a subtle coconut flavor. This is a great spot for a casual dinner or small celebration. We did not order drinks, but they also serve beer and wine on the menu. I recommend calling ahead for a reservation if possible.
It has been a MINUTE since I've been back at Anh Hong, but as always, it did not disappoint! We used to go back in the day when they were still in the TL doing the seven courses of beef. They don't do that anymore, but they still have the same stuff you just have to order à la carte. The restaurant isn't huge, but they're definitely giving more upscale vibes, and I highly recommended making a reservation because they definitely get busy. You end up with a lot of food on the table so it's nice that the tables are huge! We ordered a bunch of things, including their beef carpaccio, beef wrap, grilled pork, and imperial roll dishes, but I think what stood out the most were the prawns! A little on the pricier side, but definitely tasty.
Ambiance: We got here right as they opened and are we glad we did. There's a maybe 10 small tables and 2 large tables, but they had several large party reservations, so it's good to make reservations if you can. It wasn't super loud in there, the lighting is bright. My only complaint is the bathroom is very slick. Be careful when going in there. Service: We got seated pretty quickly, they took our order quickly without feeling rushed. We had a few questions about some pictures we saw online that looked good. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out really quickly. The only issue is that a two top table is far too small for the amount of plates needed. Everything came out in different courses, so it manageable. They were also good about refilling water - something I love about a restaurant. (I get very thirsty.) Food: Every table has a basket of rice paper and a small plate on top of a big plate. They also bring out a big plate of veggies after you order and a bowl of warm water to make your rolls. They also place 3 different sauces on the table, a fish, a chili, and I think the last one is a shrimp paste sauce (but the super obnoxious guy on the table next to us kept screaming it was an anchovy sauce). It really reminded me of the shrimp sauce, but I didn't ask, so I'm really not sure. Either way, I put about 1 part fish sauce, ¼ chili, and maybe shrimp?? paste. So good. Beef carpaccio - flavorful and light. I love the fresh, crisp texture of the veggies they added, the vinegary slivers of daikon and carrots, topped with peanuts. The beef was so thinly sliced, it absorbed the flavors of the sauce. River prawns - big, juicy prawns packed with so much flavor. Not overly salty, crunchy, and the heads were also delicious. My friend and I ate the whole thing, shell and all. The underlying sauce was also thick and perfect for dipping the shrimp and the noodle squares. We're probably going to go back this week for this dish. We had it a few hours ago and we're still thinking about it and texting each other about it. It's really very good. Lastly, we got the nem nuong (we were going to get the rack of lamb, but I said we should get something we don't normally get). These pork sausages were so juicy and it came with a fried, rolled wonton wrapper?? (I don't know what it's made of!) We wrapped these in the rice paper with all the side veggies and I wrapped the whole rice paper with the lettuce. I was not very good at wrapping these and definitely need more practice. My friend and I want to go back and make this a regular spot. It's really very tasty and we wanna try everything on the menu! (Sans obnoxious dude next to us.)
Always a great time eating at Anh Hong. Food was delicious and service was great. The wonton and roasted crab were amazing, lots of food and full bellies.
One of my favorite spots! Their bahn xeo is perfection, crispy, light and packed with sprouts pork and shrimps. The staff is amazing they refill your water jug and offer fresh plates of veggies. Our favorites have to be the sweet pork with the crispy topping. The beef carpaccio is also a hit, silky and tender beef! We love this spot for a light but filling meal. Fill your rice wraps with veggies and you won't feel so heavy after your meal!
Amaaaazing Viet place, we went Saturday around 8:15 and it was packed! Waited ~30 min for a table and the owner was so kind, he gave us cocktails on the house We got two different meats for the spring roll fillings and both were delicious! Also comes with pickled veggies, cucumbers and variety of lettuce / mint / herbs to stuff your spring rolls with we also got the Beef Porridge and Banh Xeo - portions are large!
Wow this is my new favorite Viet spot in SF (not for pho)!!! I had an amazing experience at Anh Hong, from making our own spring rolls to the owner giving us free cocktails. The meats were all delicious and they really don't skimp on portion sizes! I love how generous they are with the fillings and sides. The Banh Xeo was HUGE! Definitely coming back with a bigger group next time!
Amazing food, service, and vibes!!! I've come here with a group of 4 and a group of 9, and I had a fantastic experience each time. The food is the 100% the best Vietnamese food in the city... dare I say better than Gao Viet?!?! I've tried nearly everything on their menu! From the squab to the different spring rolls you roll yourself, and the shrimp omelette/pancake to the raw beef salad, and the wonton soup to the beef porridge, and the giant prawns to the secret off menu garlic crab, the meats are tender, the veggies are fresh & crisp, and the flavors are amazing. I love that you can roll and customize your own spring rolls, it's so fun! You can order any filling - grilled pork, nem, fishcake with sugarcane, lamb, beef, gigantic prawns. I also really love the crispy rice topped with a fried egg. They have a great list of drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. They also partner with their next door neighbors to provide specialty cocktails and mocktails. The service is fast and friendly - Harry is the best!! They are super attentive to your needs and take care of everything... it really feels like eating with your aunties and uncles who want to keep feeding you more and more food The restaurant is beautiful and nicely spaced out for small and large groups. Did you know that Anh Hong means the pink part of the sunset? All in all, this place is an 11/10 and I'm definitely coming back here by myself, with my partner, AND with a big group of friends! There is way more to Vietnamese food than pho... and this is the best spot to get it

HIDDEN GEM ALERT been walking by this place for years. noticed recently it was packed and you have to wait hours to get a seat. finally try it out. packed. local crowd. lot of Cantonese chatter. food is delicious af. it's got a fun vibe where you make your own wrap and put your own vegetables in. the beef soup is ssooooooooooo homey af. omg. the beef Hawaiian thing was bomb af. i truly have regrets not walking in here earlier. damn
Le sigh. It pains me to do this but unfortunately I had to lower the rating oh Anh Hong due to a recent visit. The portion sizes were abysmal when looking at the cost of each dishes. Service was extremely slow, not unfriendly, just slow... Frequently forgets what we asked for. And what is up with the stinginess of safeguarding the napkins? You would think for a restaurant that makes its patron use their hand to wrap their own food would give you more than a tiny piece of paper napkin.
My friends and I visited Anh Hong as a large group of 9 and we able to try out a wide variety of their dishes. Some dishes were better prepared than others, but overall, the food was solid across the board. If you enjoy making your own spring rolls, you'll love the grilled pork skewers. The pork is super tender and has such a incredible flavor profile of lemongrass, garlic, fish sauce, and more. Rolled up with the woven vermicelli noodles and fried wonton crisps in a rice paper, you get a wonderful combination of texture in a single bite. The other crowd favorite of the night was the bánh xèo -- the stuffed rice crepe. The bánh xèo here is by far the best one that I've ever had, even surpassing ones I had in Vietnam. The outside was insanely crispy and and was surprisingly not particularly oily, while the inside was loaded with fillings. Two other dishes that were well received by the group was the betel leaf wrapped grilled beef and the sugar cane shrimp. The beef had a very similar flavor profile as the pork, but the texture was a lot more lean. The shrimp had a bouncy, yet firm texture to it, and was very well-seasoned. My only qualm with the shrimp dish is that the sugarcane did not actually have any sweetness to it. There's fish sauce on the table along with a shrimp paste sauce, but to be honest, every dish we had was so flavorful on its own, the sauces aren't even needed. The only dish that we ordered that fell short was the grilled river shrimp. The presentation of the shrimp is impressive and very photogenic, but the flavor was lacking and the cook was inconsistent. Some people had shrimp that was undercooked -- borderline raw, and on the other end of the spectrum, others had shrimp that was so overcooked, that it was very difficult to remove the shrimp from the shell without completely tearing the meat. That said, everything else we ordered was well-prepared, and very tasty. Service was good throughout the meal, and I would definitely come back again for a meal with a large group. 4.5 experience rounding up to a 5. read more

Honestly one of my favorite restaurants and hidden gems in the city! Make your own spring rolls is the concept of this place. You pick and choose the meats you want and they provide you with the rest! A must get is the Grilled Beef wrapped in Banana Leaf, I've never had meat so juicy and flavorful before. Great family restaurant if you want an authentic and healthy Vietnamese meal. read more
Came here on a weekday night and was seated immediately. I liked the dimmer light aesthetics of the place, which included many cork decorations and vibrant paintings on the wall. I wanted to try their Nem Nuong, but the table next to me ordered the last few. When they handed us our waters, my water cup was dirty and had black specks, and so I had to ask for a new one. We ordered their Bo Nuong La Lot and Thit Banh Hoi. Both dishes were delicious and flavorful! The Bo Nuong La Lot, or grilled beef wrapped in leaves had a nice smoky aroma and went well with a dipping sauce. The banh hoi was fresh, and I loved the experience of being able to make my own spring rolls with the ingredients. They also provided us with a fresh plate of vegetables on the side. read more

We wanted to go for a seven course beef, so Anh Hong it is!! We used to go to the restaurant in the tenderloin, but since Covid, things happened, and now Ánh Hồng has moved to a better area of town, on Clement and 36th avenue, in front of Andronico's supermarket. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. We began with cha gio, the Vietnamese egg rolls, and they are very well done here, deep fried in rice paper and not lumpia wrap. Then we had the beef carpaccio, tender sliced of beef well seasoned. Then came the bò nhúng dấm, a shabu shabu type of raw slices of beef to be dipped in a pot of vinegar then wrapped in rice paper with lettuce and herbs, a do it yourself type of roll. Then we had a ground beef type of meatballs, and then some grilled beef wrapped in lá lốt leaves ( very similar to grapes leaves ), beef wrapped in beef fat and beef grilled with onions. We also had beef and shrimp skewers. The meal is wrapped up with a beef porridge, very light. We will come back next time to try the shrimp wrapped sugar cane, and my favorite, those big grilled prawns !!! We totally enjoyed the authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Service was very fast, efficient and friendly by a team of 2 servers, they also volunteered to take our group pictures. Street parking is abundant, we found spots right away on Saturday night. read more
Our group of 6 came for dinner to celebrate a birthday - I called earlier in the week to put in a reservation for 8pm. We found street parking around the block, and checked in with the workers at 8pm; we didn't end up getting seated until around 8:30pm though - I think there was a party that was taking longer than expected before us. I've been wanting to come to Anh Hong for a while now, because as much as I love spring roll night at home, there are only so many fillings you can prepare yourself at home. We started with the beef carpaccio, which wasn't anything too notable, but a nice light appetizer to start, and then ordered 4 different proteins - the nem nuong (which came with rice netting and crispy rolled rice paper), bo nuong la lot (the wrapped beef sausage), the tom nuong banh hoi (grilled shrimps with rice noodle squares), and the cha gio saigon (egg rolls with rice noodle squares) - everything was delicious, but we all loved the grilled shrimp, and I was really surprised by how tender the wrapped beef was! THe amount of veggies, herbs, and rice paper were VERY generous, and definitely enough for everyone to make as many spring rolls as they'd like! It was also super affordable, I think less than $30 a person, and we were stuffed by the end. I'll definitely be back for a delicious spring roll night with fresh veggies and herbs, with excellently prepared proteins :) read more
Come to Anh Hong if you want good Vietnamese meats! No pho here! This is all about the grilled lamb, sausages, shrimp, chicken etc served with sides of noodle squares. There are baskets of rice paper on the table. You would dip the paper in water to soak it quickly, remove and place veggies, meat, noodles and sauces to create your own little rice paper egg roll! A fun, interactive way to have Vietnamese food, not your typical pho place. The meats and veggies were so fresh and delicious. Must try is the rack of lamb! read more

Was looking for someone where with bò lá lốt -- seasoned ground beef wrapped in betel leaf, and was very excited to find it! This is essentially a Vietnamese 7 courses of beef spot (bò 7 món) x DIY "spring roll" spot where you order from a menu of various meats that come with a side plate of fresh herbs, along with basically unlimited rice paper, nước mắm (fish sauce) and mắm nêm (fermented anchovy sauce ) as well. You do roll everything yourself, so it is also a fun opportunity to try your hand at making a pretty roll -- Easier said than done. We ordered bò lá lốt, as well as the nem nướng. As a Brodard loyalist and lover of nem nướng, I was very excited to see this on the menu as an option. Overall, I thought their nem nướng was well seasoned, and I appreciated the fried crunchy egg roll wrapper, which is quintessential for a good nem nướng roll. I wish I had tasted more of the grilled, smoky flavor that makes nem nướng so yummy. As well, what makes Brodard (and nem nướng in Nha Trang) so special is the orange sauce -- tương chấm nem nướng -- special for this dish; unfortunately, that was not available with the nem nướng here, and so dipping in fish sauce was quite underwhelming for me. The bò lá lốt was great though -- It is nice to see this dish get served and get a taste of home, as it's something I usually can only get at home from family meals. The meat was well seasoned, fried appropriately, and the betel leaf added the perfect unique fragrance that makes this dish so unique. I also appreciated that the rolls were served with bánh hỏi rather than bún, since detangling all that can be annoying sometimes. The interior design was interesting -- Restaurant was quite clean, modern, though confusing if this was a french vs british va italian ? vibe they were going for.. perhaps pan-European? Wish they offered cá nướng, but I see they have another location that may have that, so will likely pay that a visit. Recommend stopping by here if you crave some good bò 7 món and bò lá lốt! read more

Have been going to Anh Hong since it started in the tenderloin. While the last two times it wasn't as good as I remembered it, this recent visit def shifted my perspective. Food was amazing and new and different for some friends. Great food, great company! Didn't get a chance to take too many pictures we were starving and considering you're mostly eating with your hands, prob not a place where you would be on your phone much. Staff was super friendly. I love a spot that can accommodate a big party. I called 3 weeks in advance and was able to modify and update the time and party size with a ease. We ordered: -egg rolls -carpaccio (raw beef) -rack of lamb -nem nuong -Banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes) -porridge -chao Tom banh hoi (shrimp wrapped around a sugar cane) - don't forget the suck on the sugar cane! -all 3 different types of beef wraps/rolls Everything can be paired with your preference of veggies, noodle squares, and can be wrapped as a spring roll with choice of fish sauce and shrimp paste. We had tons of orders and everyone left stuffed! Even my friend who ate said he was stuffed before he came could not stop eating and trying everything. Def a great place to eat at; however, probably would skip the porridge for next time. Parking can at times be challenging but not as challenging as some other neighborhoods. There is a mini parking lot by the golf course where you can get lucky sometimes. It is a short walk to the restaurant. read more

One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants that I'm so glad moved to an area with better parking. My favorites are the beef carpaccio, rack of lamb with tomato/grape salad, sugarcane shrimp, grilled beef wrapped in Hawaiian leaf, and river prawns. I can't think of any bad dish I've here before, literally everything is delicious. Definitely come with more people to be able to try more, since it's family style. Most of the meal is making your own spring rolls with the protein, so get ready to get your hands a little dirty! But it's all amazing Definitely make a reservation to avoid a wait! read more

Ok, I had to come back... and this time, I brought my clients with me! We tried several dishes on the menu--every single one was absolutely delicious. The crepes, lamb chops, beef rolls, and grilled shrimp each had their own unique flavor profile, and all were perfectly prepared. Anh Hong continues to impress with fresh ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and a menu full of surprises. We were so lucky to get seated quickly, just a quick note, weekday is easier to get a table! read more
Anh Hong is an amazing addition to the Richmond area and SF food scene in general! We definitely need more DIY Vietnamese spring roll restaurants around the SF Bay Area. The restaurant isn't massive, but it's quite comfortable. Be prepared for a wait if you're coming here during peak hours. Once you're seated, you'll see that the spring roll wrappers and all the veggies are laid out for you. All you need to do is order whatever appetizers and proteins you want to put in your spring rolls. Then, once you order, it's totally up to you to wrap your own rolls! Food quality is great. All the vegetables are fresh, proteins taste great, and even the service is pretty on-point. Will definitely be coming back soon! read more
I kept hearing about Anh Hong on social media and decided to give it a try (even though I'm often disappointed by influencer recs lol), and I'm happy to say that this was soooo good!! My friends and I came on a weekday around 645pm and we got seated immediately. The restaurant was about half full but there were always new parties coming in. The appetizer list is small and nothing really caught our eye, so we ordered from the main course list only. They also gave us two enormous plates of veggies and herbs to wrap in the spring rolls, and each table came prepared with a bowl of rice paper. - Grilled beef with lemongrass and onion: this was so flavorful! The beef was so tender and easy to bite into, even with the strands of onion wrapped inside, and the lemongrass flavor was there but not overpowering. - Vietnamese grilled pork skewers: I was first introduced to nem nuong many years ago at brodard's, but I feel like you don't see it at a lot of SF viet restaurants, so I was super excited to have it here. It was soooo good, the perfect balance of savory and sweet, and not too salty. - Half rack of lamb: I've never had lamb at a viet restaurant so was curious how it would taste, and I was pleasantly surprised! The meat was tender and not gamey. I probably would order other meats next time though, since this came with the bone in and couldn't be wrapped in a spring roll. - Do chua (pickled radish and carrot): I have to give a shoutout to the do chua on the veggie plate bc this is one of my favorite sides and it was sooo fresh and crunchy and pickled perfectly with a balanced sweet and vinegary flavor. The food is a little on the pricier side but still within reason, and it's great for those of us who don't want to prepare all the protein to wrap spring rolls at home. One thing to note is that the server didn't ask if we needed instructions for wrapping the spring rolls, and just dropped off bowls of hot water along with the meat. We knew what we were doing so it was fine, but it might be helpful to ask customers if they're familiar with the dish. Our server also left us alone after all our food came, which is how I like it lol but was attentive when we needed anything. Overall, this is a great spot if you want some non-pho viet food and enjoy playing with your food. I'll definitely be back to try the other proteins, or will check out the other location in the TL. Highly recommend! read more
My first time at Anh Hong was yearsssss ago when they were located at the Tenderloin. Fast forward to now, this new location is a lot safer, quieter, and the food is still good. If you haven't had 7 course beef, you deserve 7 fingers in the face; one hand slap and two fingers up the nostrils. Boo-yah. I made reservations for a Friday and was seated at a large table. This location is a lot smaller but I'm ok with that, more intimate that way, giggity giggity. Beef Carpaccio - fresh, lots of flavor Beef in Hawaiian leaf - one of my favs. My mama makes this and it warms my soul Grilled BBQ Chicken - nicely cooked, lots of flavor Wonton Noodle Soup - steamed wontons not fried in delicious broth Most of the dishes came with rice noodle squares which we absolutely loved. We also enjoyed wrapping our own rolls, customizing it they way we like it. Great food, great service. We were last to leave the restaurant, cheers to the owner for the nice treat at the end of the shift =) read more
